 Azure gave a small whimper as she slunk away from her family’s den. Her mother and father had been fighting again, and the experience always frightened and saddened her. She wanted a happy family, one where everyone would be glad just to see each other every day. But that seemed impossible.
Her blood-father, Tyver, had played with her mother’s feelings, had taken advantage of her, used her, and left her with three pups. Her adopted father, Altair, was a womanizer, which was disrespectful towards her mother, despite what she had done. And her mother, Lumiere, was bitter about it all. Disrespect from strangers, disrespect from her mate, and lately, disrespect from the rest of the pack. Her siblings, too, seemed to quail under the dislike Altair expressed towards them.
A savage growl broke her trail of thought, and she yelped unintentionally. Quickly she muffled the sound and with flattened ears and tucked tail, she retreated to the safety of the nearby forest. She wanted to get away, perhaps not forever, but at least for a little while. But the sounds of fighting could still be heard, deep within her mind. She shut her eyes, but it did little to help, and in a moment of desperation, she flapped her transparent, nearly invisible wings hard.
Flying was something she rarely did. She wasn’t experienced, and her fear of disappointing someone – even herself – made her reluctant to even try and practice, which was why it took such concentration to get airborne, and why she chose to try and fly now of all times. Anything was better than hearing those angry voices she thought, and soon, she was up and away.
But her inexperience was quick to show. After she had gone only a short distance, a strong wind blew against her, and she froze in surprise. Her wings, still raised, caught the air and made her tumble in the air, flying this way and that, wherever the wind pleased. She cried out for help, but no one else was in the sky, and she could only stop when the wind did, and she landed pitifully on a bank of cold snow, far from home, lost and alone.

 Vincent was quite content being alone and in his cold home. Having no family, pack, or really any friends made for a lonely life but he didn't mind. It made him strong and able to fend for himself.
It was quite a windy day for once and several times the wind howled like a helix. Sometimes it sounded like someone was calling out which made him stop and listen. However the sound was gone by that time.
He continued on in his small journey and wasn't paying much attention to where he was going. He ended up finding a deep spot in the snow and sunk down to nearly his belly. Growling in frustration and his own inattentiveness he fought to get back to the normal spot up ahead. It was while he was doing this that he noticed blue and black up ahead.
He frowned picking out a tail and then ears..... was that a leg? And was he going crazy? He could have sworn he was seeing faint wings. He reached a spot of snow were it was shallow and shook himself. He slowly made his way over to the other helix, for it must be a helix.

Azure strugged under the sudden cold that engulfed her, flailing her paws as she panicked. For a moment, she thought she had gone blind, but then a puff of cold air hit her exposed leg, sending a shiver up her spine despite the adrenaline that pumped through her veins. She realized she had fallen under the cover of soft snow and had buried herself in it with the force of the fall.
She tried to stand but lost her footing. The snow under her kept breaking under her paws, and would not hold. After a few despreate scrabbles and beating of her frail wings, however, she managed to escape from her self-formed prison and shake the cold powder off her shoulders.
As soon as she had stopped, however, she realized with horror that she had accidentally sent the snow flying over towards a stranger, and she cowered with fear. The helix had the pelt not unlike that of a dog and although he seemed curious now, she was sure his expression would turn to that of rage when he noticed what she had unintentionally done.

Vincent was close enough to be in danger of getting hit with snow as the other helix fought it's way out of the snow drift. It was quite amusing to watch and a small grin had formed on his maw. It quickly vanished as the female shook herself off and then turned to him. He was frowning and staring at her, no trace of the earlier amusement on his face.
Seeing her cower though quickly squashed his rage and urge to yell at her. He sighed and shook himself. None of the snow fell on her. "I guess that's what I get for coming so close...." He said staring down at her. He was studying her looks. She had a strange little tail, long front teeth, and the markings were quite strange. However it was the transparent butterfly wings on her back.
"So I'm not crazy. You have wings.... What in the world are you doing here?! Most winged helixes know to avoid the North since they can't fly here."

Azula flinched when he first spoke before peeking up tentatively. His voice was calm and he didn’t have the look of one who was about to strike out. Comforted a little by this, and the fact that he changed the conversation, she attempted a sitting position, but was still shy of his presence.
“T-the wind blew me here,” she admitted, ashamed. She fumbled nervously with her paws, glancing at him nervously. Would he laugh, she wondered? He was certainly different from most she had met – especially his appearance. Most of her family had wings, large tails, and other such things, but the helix before her now had none of these things. Anatomy-wise, he looked just like her mother, without the wings or the regal posture with which she held herself.
Slowly, a chill crept up her spine, making her shiver. She looked around at the barren place around her, wondering how such a soft, empty place could be so cold.

Vincent stared at her for a long moment as she righted herself and sat down. Hearing what she said made him snort, part amusement and a little bit of disgust. "The wind blew you here...... That's a first. Perhaps you should learn how to fly or avoid high winds before you get blown away again." He said no laughter in his voice. He was quite serious with that advice, since it wasn't often he gave it.
Seeing her shiver he sighed. "Come on. I'll show you to the border. It'll be warmer there." He shook his head and took a couple of steps away, making sure his paws were spread so he'd stay above the snow. "......Oh. I'm Vincent."

Azure folded her ears back in embarrassment, but at least the male wasn’t laughing outright, and was offering advice (of sorts), as well. “I’m trying,” she told him softly, wrapping her tail tighter around what bit of leg it could reach. Surprisingly, her large fangs didn’t tamper with her speech much.
“Thank you,” she said, standing after him and shaking herself a little to get the snow off. She shook herself, ruffling her fur, and folded her wings close to her sides. “I’m Azu—”
Her introduction was cut off when she took a step forward and fell right back into the snow.

Vincent nodded barely listening to her right now. He was focused on getting her to the border. It was only when she stopped speaking that he stopped and looked back. He sighed/snorted at her when he saw her in the snow again. "Jeez. Can't walk either." He said walking back to her.
He helped her stand up and then lifted a paw. "Spread your paws out. It'll help spread your weight out across the snow." He placed his paw back down and took a couple steps away from her.
".... so what's you're name? I only caught the Azu."

"Sorry," Azure replied as the male came close and helped her out of the snow. Then, "Thank you."
That must've been the second thanks within the same minute, and she wondered if she should be glad he was helping her so much, or embarassed because she needed so much of it. Shaking the thoughts away, she tried to focus on the task at hand. Taking his words to heart, she did as he told and was pleased when she her paws didn't fall into the cold depths, as it meant she was doing at least one thing right.
"Azure," she finished, offering a small, uncertain smile.

"You're welcome." Vincent replied. He certainly was being more helpful than he usually is. Usually he would have ignored her or just sat down and watched her struggle. Maybe meeting those other helixes had made him a bit more social.
"Hello Azure." He said starting to walk again now that she was able to walk and not fall on her face, "I must say your name fits. You are blue."

"Hello, Vincent," Azure replied, mirroring him. She had grown up all her life on the firm, solid ground of the East, and walking with her toes splayed was difficult for her. Still, she managed, and she felt some pride at this small achievement of walking on the snow.
"My mother named me," she said, shivering lightly. For a moment, she becmae distracted with the cloud of air that formed from her breath, but she continued soon after. "Did your mother name you?" she inquired shyly.

Vincent nodded at her hello. He kept walking heading towards a tree in the distance. That was a landmark he was using right now to get to the border. If there was a tree then that meant they were going in the right direction.
He paused and looked back at her. "No. I don't have any family. I named myself." He replied before walking again.

"No family?" Azure asked, the concept lost on her. She thought he meant literally which, of course, was impossible. Everyone came with parents, and sometimes siblings, whether they wanted to or not.
The thought was enough to distract her from the cold, although she unconsiously stepped closer to him, attracted by the warmth of his pelt. She cocked her head, wondering if he was joking, or if all Northeners were like this. She had heard the helixes of the North were the cruelest and toughest of any around, and for all she knew, they could've left their pups by themselves, ensuring only the strongest survived.

Vincent had continued walking even asked her next question. He was thinking about how to answer. He did have a family, clearly since he was here, but he had never met them. He didn't know if they had abandoned him, had he been stolen from them, had he just wandered away, or had they died.
"Not that I know of. The earliest memories I have are of me alone trying to survive. So based on that I have no family. I might have some out there somewhere but as far as I'm concerned I don't."

"Oh," was all Azure could say in reply. She wondered if he was sad about it (but wouldn't dare to ask), or if he didn't miss them at all, having never met them. She had a family, but it wasn't as happy as she'd have hoped. Even disputes between her siblings were common, and her ears dropped at the thought of them.
"Have you a-always lived here?" she asked in an attempt to change the subject, her voice starting to quiver when her shakings grew more violent.
