This is a private roleplay between CuiYan [Tooaya] and Miaoyin [Venexia].

Setting:

Miaoyin stumbles upon a visual oasis in the early morning, however he's not the only wanderer.

Before dawn had broken through the sky, fragmenting the dark with pastels and sunlight, Chen Miaoyin had gone on an adventure. Normally he knew better than this, wandering in the darkness was not exactly the safest of things to do in Lunaria; especially at a time like this, when she is plagued with petty spats and beaten and bruised from war. But, really, he couldn’t have been expected to stay home on a night like tonight. The troupe, his small family, was usually a pleasant bunch. Well, his beloved aunties weren’t the nicest of folk, but they were usually bearable. Usually. However, as the year’s profit was announced, the Chen household erupted into a fragile sort of chaos. It wasn’t unexpected, the theatre almost always broke even once food money and money for next year’s production was tallied and put aside. Miao’s parents and grandfather didn’t have a problem with it, neither did Miao – they were enriching Lunaria with art, what could be better? They were a gift to Lunaria, their small Opera house was an incredible asset. His aunts usually didn’t disagree. Usually. But, on nights like tonight, they were a squawking mess.

They threw things, sobbed into their sleeves. What an injustice! How could Chen Ming-kun and Chen Qiuyue do this to them? Them! They’re oldest and dearest friends! The stars (or so they thought) of their productions! What an outrage! What a felony! Just they wait! Just they wait until the town heard of this! Watch them! Watch them rally around their house – armed with pitchforks, and torches, and swords, and venomous passion – chanting for this wrong to be put right! They would be a wanted couple! How could they? How could they not pay the aunts enough for them to afford that shiny new necklace they had been dying to get their claws on? Why! Someone should lock Miao’s parents up. As the scene replayed in his head, Miao couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

He needed to clear his mind.

For the past few hours Miao had been stumbled around in the dark, marching down invisible rounds, and pawing around in the shroud of the night. His heart had leapt when he had heard the sound of metal sword connecting with another of its kind – the howls of the spar still rang out in his mind. He had heard someone crying in a corner, he had heard birds rustle and flee from their perch… and now, now all Miao wanted was sleep.

Now, sunlight illuminating his surroundings, Miao stumbled past two intertwined trees to look down the hill they topped. It was a gradual, grassy slope – isolated and seemingly untouched. Down its side one could make out soft tides of turquoise water. His eyes, somewhat sore from strain, blinked a number of times, and Miao pinched himself, to make sure it wasn’t a mirage. Content that it wasn’t, and too tired to worry about getting back home, Miao rested in the centre of the two trees, slumping against their rough bark. For now, he’d just take in the view.

Those who were strange to CuiYan's daily habits would probably have frowned upon the young man's seemingly endless free times. No one was to be blamed by this prejudice, for one could easily tell the difference between the young man leisurely sleeping all the time and other students who were burdened with various tasks. No, CuiYan was not bothered by such prejudice. It was what he had to bear for being a genius. What the people do not know was the fact that Cui simply chose to work differently than the rest. After all, he was smarter, more experienced, and possessed higher skill levels (according to himself). Someone as special as him simply could not blend in with the rest of the group, if anyone should be blamed for this occurrence, CuiYan would point his finger to the lady of fate.

Nonetheless, after a whole day of dealing with such prejudice the young man felt more stressful than usual. Why did the children treat him badly when he was being extremely kind to them? CuiYan knew the answer, they were simply jealous. The young man chose to ignore their anger, but he was not insensible. Those earthly fools! If they decide to ignore his kindness and only be blinded by such a negative extreme of admiration, then so be it. He would not deal with them any future, and they would no longer receive his generosity. Starting from tomorrow, he would treat them as enemies, ones to be frowned upon and ones that he would never care for.

For now, he needed a break, which was the reason why the young man was standing by himself in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night or, rather, early morning. CuiYan was not a night person, and, after being outside for so long even his saintly self felt a hint of exhaustion. It was time for bed, as his mentor would say--although at the moment he found himself in no place near the comfortableness of his ward. In fact, he was staring into a familiar scenery that was far from the city, far from home. It was a place he had discovered by chance, a rare Oasis. CuiYan seemed to be talented in finding hidden natural beauties (among many other talents), and he was well pleased by the oasis' discovery. For a moment he regretted not bringing his painting gears here, for he had approved of this place and thought that it deserved to be captured on canvas.

It can't be helped, maybe next time.

Shaking his head, CuiYan wandered aimlessly into the scene, while still thinking back on what had happened during the day. He didn't know how long he had walked, but when he stopped the sun had shown its face to the land. The young man, with the help of the dim sunlight, finally stopped, upon another discovery, this time a much unpleasant one. In front of him grew two magnificent trees, which CuiYan liked, and in between their roots was a figure dressed in black, an animal that certainly was not native to this oasis.

That CuiYan did not like.

Frowning for a fleeting second, the young man was temped to ignore the sleeping Lunarian and simply walk right past him...possibly stomping his feet on the dreaming boy as if he was no different than a mere pebble on the dirt road. Unfortunately, CuiYan could also image the possible result of his reckless action, which could ignite a heated argument or even a fight. What a dilemma. The young man sighed. He was not in a good mood, but he had enough negativity for the day (even though technically speaking it happened yesterday). Crouching, the young man moved closer to the sleeping Lunarian, watching intently and hoped the boy would wake up by his glares. Didn't his mentor used to tell him that experienced people could always sense others' emotions even when they were not looking?

Why, CuiYan hoped this boy here could belong to the smart ones. In any case, the young man felt a surge of disappointment sinking into his spine: another person here meant this place was no longer safe to paint.

CuiYan should’ve known better than to fear a fight from Miaoyin. Perhaps upon closer inspection, and a better angle, the Noble would’ve seen Miao’s utterly weak and kind of pitiful physique. Indeed, Miao lacked ample strength. Miao holding his own in a fight was more of a joke than anything else. Not to mention the fact that, even if CuiYan had trampled over his precious toes, Miao was a hard thing to provoke. Well. Not entirely, Miao was quick to jump, but just as quickly would the boy backtrack, and made amends. Miaoyin was the sort of weak, scrawny kick who avoided battles and combat as much as he possibly could. In other words, Miao was one the smart wimpy kids. Maybe a rare breed, he fancied some days, though he knew otherwise. Miao had never seen a skin and bones boy lunge at a beefy bodybuilder, and, until Miao saw otherwise, that was enough proof to lead him to believe that anyone as physically strong as him was at least half as clever as he was. Otherwise, Miao had concluded, there would be many more skinny, bruised, and beaten bodies sprawled across the alleyways. No, smart people knew had to bribe, talk and run their way out of frivolous battles.

The trees, though their bark was rough and their trunks stiff, were somehow comfortable. Sure, they were by no means adequate rivals to a bed, but Miao found them strangely enjoyable nonetheless. He figured, eyes struggling to stay open against the intoxicating allure of sleep, it was simply because he had been walking for so long. The minutes, hours – it felt like days – he had just wasted stumbling about blindly in the dark had deprived him of comfort, perhaps. Or maybe it was just the fatigue. His eyelids seemed like huge weights, sinking and forcing themselves downwards, even as he struggled to stay awake. But really, why bother? He was alone, completely and utterly alone. And, though he was pretty sure he was in Noble territory, he was also sure nothing would happen to him. How many other Lunarians had stumbled upon this gem of land? Judging by its condition – no one. He was, Miao comforted himself, safe for the time being. So, what was the harm in getting a little shut-eye? None.

Miao hummed softly – it was a faint tune, a modified take on some old lullaby his mother had sung to him long ago. Miaoyin had discovered some time ago it was the easiest way to put himself to sleep. Miao’s eyes fluttered to a close, his hum lulled and was gradually, slowly consumed by silence, and his world went dark. A relaxing sort of dark, that is. Miao had gotten the living daylights punched out of him recently, and that was a very different, very cold dark. It was a unnerving sort, one that was bitter and fearsome, and just generally terrifying. It make an awake Miao shudder at the very thought of it. He breathed in and out slowly, slipping from consciousness, and letting his mind submerge itself in a world more surreal than his own –

But then there were footsteps.

They were soft, but after the first set or so, loud enough to snap a dazed Miao back into the real world. Regretfully. He stayed still, partly because he was hoping the stranger wouldn’t notice him (and thus move on), and partly because he was simply too tired to. However, when the steps grew quiet, it became apparent the stranger wasn’t leaving anytime soon. Eurgh. Miao blinked a few times, trying to unfasten the sleep gunk from his eyelids. He coughed slightly, softly testing his voice, and then – shaking – Miao stood up. His shoulder pressed against the tree, for support and only for support, Miao did everything he could to not squint as his newfound company.

“Hello,” he said, as pleasantly as he could – while sizing the other up, of course, “can I help you?”

A fake smile oozed its way across his face.

CuiYan's burning glare did not retract from his face as he inspected the awakened stranger. When MiaoYin spoke Cui felt a surge of disappointment creeping up his spine. Oh great, another one of those dense boys who did not know his place. This one, however, was at least dressed neatly and had some manners. The green haired young man smiled a little at the stranger, keeping silent as the boy struggled to get up. He was greeted with the stranger's own smile, though Cui was suspicious that MiaoYin was just as displeased to find his presence. Cui shrugged, there was some similarities between him and the stranger, but Cui was not about to back down.

"Did you have a good sleep, friend?" He asked, after the other boy finally managed to snap out of his dreams. How nice, now Cui was jealous of MiaoYin. How come he didn't come here sooner? How come the other boy had to be the one to find this place first? More importantly, how come he was able to sleep while Cui ended up wandering all night long? The young man was exhausted. His near-perfect self was not perfect after all, and he needed sleep! Cui wondered if he would get bags under his eyes when he managed to return home today.

The thoughts frustrated Cui, which was apparent in the way he talked. The next words that were aimed at MiaoYin contained a certain amount of firepower to them, though the hostility certain was blocked from his facial expressions.

"But I suppose you must have! This place is beautiful isn't it? Surely anyone would want to come here and relax, don't you think?"
