ok so i play the trombone in concert band, and i want to switch to baritone for marching band. i dont know if i really should because i like playing my trombone but i dont like my section. next year for the first time in who knows how long, the trombones are going to have girl leaders, normally i wouldnt mind but it just so happens that i hate the girl. and she causes more drama than nessicary. the fact that her boyfriend is going to march next year for the first time ever is going to be bad. she will end up hating his guts and if you decide to stay friends with him after they break up then you are screwed. so right now i dont need all that drama and want to switch to baritone but im not a good on baritone as i am on trombone... so should i switch and practice like crazy over the summer?

Yeah, shouldn't be too hard. Are trombones and baritones two different sections there? Hmm. As long as you can play your show music on baritone, you don't really have to learn a whole bunch else. Baritone's super easy to learn, especially being on trombone.

It's so weird, I just found out that we're switching to an all-baritone low brass. We're buying like, 5 baritones.

It's because they don't want to worry about trombone slides hitting other people when designing the drill, I think.

i guess it is a ton safer that way but im in high school and the majority of the people in the trombone section can barely play trombone as it is. so we cant really expect anyone to switch unless they are willing to work there butts off.

The baitone isn't hard at all. Plus the trombone and baritone have the same mouth piece sizes. Just get a band book over the summer and go over the baritone notes just about every other day for a month. Once a week circle about 5 notes that you learned that week and have your mom or dad quiz it on you. Then start going through the book a song at a time. Once you get that down you can get some baritone sheet music(it's often the same as the trombone). Trust me; I started the trombone then switched to the baritone. It's easy after a while.
GOOD LUCK!!

-the euph section ain't too far away from the bones, you'll still hear everything that girl says and whatnot. -Many trombone players go "valves are too complicated derp derp" and never learn Euph. I don't know WHY. -Other than that, go for it! It's quite a simple transition; I think the hardest part is that your new instrument will weigh more so your arms need to get used to it.

Here is how you fix your problem.
Step 1: stick with trombone
Step 2: practice
Step 3: challenge crazy girl and beat her. Now your in charge of her.
problem solved
