One way or another, Ydda had found herself a home. She wasn't entirely certain how it happened but rather than feeling happy or relieved that she now had a haven, she felt confused. Suspicious. Even a little bit scared. No one had wanted her to stay before.
No one had wanted her. Period. And this bitter thought left a bad taste in her mouth. As if that wasn't bad enough, her past seemed to be catching up to her.
The mare didn't realize how much of her past would be catching up when she went out to familiarize herself with the area.

Call it fate. Call it coincidence. Call it a fortuitous event. Call it whatever you will the result will still be the same. An usdia was roaming the desert. And for all intents and purposes, she was an ordinary usdia, barring the odd shape of her eyes. But at the same time she was not an ordinary usdia. Well, to a certain soquili she wasn't.
That bit of knowledge would have made Beldam's muzzle curl into a smile.
Instead, she continued to quietly make her way through the lands, simply following wherever her hooves took her as she was wont to do.

Ydda stopped in her tracks to memorize the lay of the land. How far away from the camp was she? She glanced over her shoulders, narrowed her eyes and tried to gauge her distance. If she squinted, she can just make out the camp. She wasn't that far away she decided. Facing forward, she ventured out even farther. And spied something moving in the distance. She wondered if it was just a trick of the light, or if it was like her encounter with Kredoe.

Not a sound passed through Beldam's lips as she continued on her journey, button eyes deceptively observant of the things she's passed and watchful of those before her. Her ears perked, long black tail swaying behind her as she saw something of interest in the distance. Her legs quickened from a casual trot to a near gallop, her muzzle pulling back into a teeth-bared smile as she drew nearer.
How long has it been, the usdia would have wondered if she really cared about the passage of time. So rather than think about it, she ignored it. She was too fickle to dwell on anything too much for too long.

Gray eyes narrowed into a squint at the approaching figure, every muscle in her body tensing into a coil, ready to break into a gallop at a moment's notice. Something in the back of her mind was telling her to forget waiting, to leave, to get away now, now, now! She should have listened to that voice rather than lingered long enough to recognize, realize what-who it was coming towards her.
"N-no..." Ydda gasped, suddenly unable to move when she caught sight of the button eyes.

Beldam's eyes perked in recognition of the voice, her lips pulling back into a sweet smile. "Oh sweetie, so this is where you've been this whole time. I've been looking everywhere for you," the usdia mare crooned happily, her glossy, button eyes giving no indication of the lie in her words. No, she hasn't been looking everywhere for the gray-eyed mare, but it was just what Ydda would have wanted to hear. "Goodness you've grown so much, come let your mother take a better look at you."

Ydda couldn't move, couldn't think, couldn't breathe. All she could do was stay stock-still, hoping, wishing desperately that if she did nothing the usdia would go away and leave her alone. There were too many memories from her past that were struggling to surface and the mare didn't know if she was strong enough to hold them at bay.
But at the usdia's command, Ydda found herself taking a step forward. Then another. And another. Until she was practically standing over Beldam. Odd, even though she towered over the pale mare, Ydda couldn't help but feel so small. So insignificant.

Beldam beamed up at her adopted daughter's obedience, immensely pleased that she was still the shy, impressionable little filly she had found tucked in her basket all on her lonesome. Certainly the usdia had wandered off and forgot to inform the young filly that her wanderlust had taken hold of her. She simply assumed Ydda would be able to follow her, after all, Beldam wouldn't have been able to cover much ground given her tiny legs.
Except of course she never made it particularly easy to track her down, but did that really matter now that she was reunited with her daughter? "You've gotten so big now! But still as lovely as always. Have you found someone to care for, yet?"

It had been a long, long time since she last saw Beldam, far too many sunsets and sunrises between them that Ydda felt the urge to lash out at the usdia's casual tone. Resentment, anger, confusion roiled about in her mind, goading, whispering to the mare that she was well within her rights to show how much the usdia had hurt her. She was strong enough, wasn't she?
But no matter the bitter heat coursing through her veins, she could not bring herself to lift a hoof against the tiny, pale mare. Rather than answer, Ydda simply turned and headed back to the herd.

Beldam blinked, or rather she would have if her button eyes were capable of such a motion. She was taken aback by the wordless response she received from her adopted daughter, and felt more than a little slighted.
"There's no need to be rude, sweetheart," she chided, trotting after the larger mare as though it had been an invitation. "Or did you decide to simply show me rather than tell me about the ones you've found?" She smiled a smile that was more eerie than sweet and ignored the shudder that rippled down Ydda's spine.

Ydda continued to say nothing. Not trusting her voice or herself and certainly not the usdia that followed after her. She ought to have snorted and broken into a dead run, her longer legs would have given her the advantage of speed and perhaps even lose her unwanted guest.
But she didn't. And for the life of her, the gray-eyed mare didn't know, couldn't know why. So here she was, slowly making her way back until she spotted the markers etched onto the stones that indicated the small herd's territory had begun.
"Wait here," the words came out as a plea rather than an instruction.

Well, now, that was certainly more like it, Beldam decided at the younger mare's tone, still smiling that enigmatic, not-entirely-pleasant smile. With a flick of her ears and quick bob of her head, the usdia let her adopted daughter go to wherever it was Ydda intended.
In the meantime, Beldam decided to familiarize herself with her surroundings and perhaps whoever or whatever sort of company she may end up keeping.

Ryuhei thought he'd heard two pairs of hoof-falls arrive, which was odd given how the annoying Kredoe hadn't gone anywhere and it was too early for Isiah to return from his foraging. Then again, it was very possible that Ydda ran into the self-appointed herd leader when she had gone. At the thought of the mare, Ryuhei instinctively tensed, brows knitting together before he snorted in derision.
Except she was suddenly in his field of vision and was approaching him. Why would she do that? Did she intend to dredge up their past, which Ryuhei had no intention of ever discussing? Again he snorted and motioned to turn away.

The herd was small in number, Ydda knew that. But still, did she really have to have run into Ryuhei of all soquilis? Oh spirits, it seemed like her past wasn't just trying to catch up to her, it was trying to take over her. She hesitated in drawing closer to him, stopping just close enough that she wouldn't have to speak too loudly for him to hear but not too close to him or his boundaries.
"Has Isiah returned?" She asked softly, her tone even, eyes looking at everything but his face.
