Blinking sleepily despite the late morning hour, J'iura trudged through the door leading to the mess hall with a face better suited to a week old corpse. Bags hanging heavily beneath his eyes, it was obvious he hadn't slept in awhile and that his hair hadn't seen a comb in days. His clothing, thankfully, was fresh enough so as not to draw comment, but with a head better suited for a birds nest, few would draw close enough to notice the lack of a smell.

Klah. I need Klah.

The thought was strong and all encompassing, so despite appearances, or perhaps in spite of them, he bee-lined for the freshest pot of klah without a single staggered step. Somewhere he knew Dannath was dozing, the sharding well-rested b*****d, and a small perverse side of him wanted to prod at the sleeping dragon so he wouldn't be alone in his misery. But as quickly as that thought came, it went the moment his cold fingers wrapped around a warm mug and his wandering feet brought him to the end of a long table.

Ahhhh. Klah.

Hunched over his newly acquired mug, the slim dragonrider probably didn't appear to be enjoying his cup of brew as much as he really was. It wouldn't be a stretch for a stranger to assume he'd just been dumped and was waking up from a hangover, or had lost a card game and was waking up from the depression of losing. He was hardly aware of anyone else in the Mess Hall, let alone their opinions, and if he sat down at a table that already had occupants.. well.. he wouldn't have cared about that even if he were aware.

"Ug, thank Faranth for Klah." He rumbled to no one in particular, perking up a little as the stimulating drink worked it's way through his body.

"FARANTH, THIS IS THE BEST CUP OF KLAH EVER."

Probably on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of being awake, and thankfully on the opposite end of the table from the weary rider, a young woman with sunset-hued hair sipped at the steaming mug in her hands with all the gusto of a dragon taking down a wherry for a meal. Her eyes were bright and her face set into an idiotic grin as she chuckled over her own comments, either unaware she could be disturbing others or hardly caring about such things. The correct answer was the second one, as Ofelia the Tanner had little regard for those around her in need of a few more candlemarks of sleep, seeing as she seemed to be in good possession of endless energy.

"Mmmmmm."

The contents of the cup had to be hot, Klah was never served lukewarm in this Weyr, yet Ofelia downed the rest of her beverage as though her tongue and throat never existed to act a thermometer. The few people who had been sitting around her frown in disapproval of her actions though some gave her a look of 'well done, that was interesting', and almost as soon as she had finished swallowing a gloved hand was leading a bandaged arm to wipe the excess liquid from her face. Her tongue tingled slightly and her belly was certainly much warmer than it had been before, so it was with a contented sigh (and a little burp) that the Tanner looked down at the mug with the desire for more. She rose to her feet and started towards where she could get another cup, passing a man who looked like he was dying in the process. Unable to tear herself away (hey, curiosity!), the redhead stopped and turned a set of gray eyes on the figure.

"'Cuse me. You okay?"

"Mhrrumm?"

Straightening in his seat to properly get a look at the person questioning him required far more energy than he currently had at his disposal, so he settled with half turning and leaving his eye level somewhere between the shoulders and waist. A disgruntled burp followed the inarticulate response to the girl's question, and there was no doubt in J'iura's mind that the speaker was a female, before the blackrider finally managed to fully kick his brain into function mode.

Vaguely he recalled a crow of delight and far too much energy emanating from the other end of the table, but whether that had stemmed from this person was neither here nor there. His head was going to hurt no matter what anyone else did, so a deathly silence or standing ovation didn't phase him either way. They were both sharding awful.

He had noticed however, almost immediately after ascertaining gender, that the girl had an empty klah mug in her possession.

"Ar'you be goin' back fer seconds?" He asked without preamble, staring fixedly at the empty mug in her hand.

"O'course! This is the best Klah I've had in turns! A far cry from the sludge they serve us back at the hall and try to pass off Klah anyway."

Ofelia moved closer to the person she was speaking with, that whole 'boundaries' issue quickly dropped the moment she was addressed back. Had this man gone about his way and ignored her she likely would have gone on her own as well, but hey! He started it! She'd laughed and given an approving nod to the burp the rider released and, had she been with any drink of her own, Ofelia more than likely would have tried to return to action. She wasn't a champ at burping by any means, but the girl could hold her own. Her brother hated that for the sheer fact her manners sucked, but Ofelia always believed it to be jealousy. Ah, ignorance.

"You oughta have tried that swill. Could make a dragon between for a moment or two to get the taste outta yer mouth. How about you, still nursing a single cup? Ya gotta just tilt yer head back and guzzle it down, s'the only real way to drink."

Had Ofelia known she was speaking with a rider, an Atypical rider, she probably should have known to speak a bit more respectful to the man, but seeing as the girl was all but fresh to the Weyr by not even a candlemark, she didn't know. Or care.

Perhaps it was lucky for Ofelia that J'iura didn't stand on decorum, and wouldn't even if he weren't out of it, but given the man's penchant for being a bit of a tease and a lazy bum... one had to wonder what kind of rider would have been better for the young Tanner to become acquainted with upon arrival at Trine Weyr.

If one could call a sluggish and obviously still very drowsy dragonrider an acquaintance that is.

"That s'onds good t'me." He rumbled back, heartened by the girl's enthusiasm despite his headache, he tossed back the remainder of his klah like he was chugging ale and slammed the mug down with another satisfied burp. " Hey, you wouldn't mind a gettin' a second cup for me then eh? Had a rough night y'know? Gotta get it together fer that beast outside... that bum. Wait, he's still slep'n."

The last came out a rumble as J'iura reached out for Dannath subconsciously and found the dragon still asleep. "That lazy, short-necked, smokeless wherryhead, I should.... bah." A loud thunk finalized that statement as J'iura's head unexpectedly met with the table, and was followed shortly by a groan.

"Shardit tha'hurt...why'd me head fall off."

"Faranth man, get yerself together. Am I gonna haveta drag ya to the water and dunk you under until yer awake?"

Ofelia had quick hands and she'd managed to get the rider's mug (she assumed he was a rider or else a gay man talking about his lover very unhappily) away from him before his head came into contact with the table. It was with a strong arm that she reached over and grabbed his shoulder to help hoist him back up into a sitting position, the mugs being set down and both hands being used. If the man fell forward and landed on her all he would smell would be crisp leather and something akin to lilacs, though that was if Ofelia didn't try to dodge and let him smack into the floor. Sometimes massive head trauma was just what was needed to wake up.

"Here, lean on me if ya need to but we gotta get you up and on yer feet before you keel over again. Yer makin' a scene of yerself, ya know. No wait, actually -"

She released his shoulder. If he fall back towards her or towards the table, whatever. The mugs were now in her hands and she was looking for the replacement pitcher, ready to fill 'em up.

"Stay here and I'll get that second round of Klah. Back in a second."

There was a blessing in the small things, and in this case a very big blessing in how very slight of frame J'iura was. Minus the smack to the head, he rebounded well enough when Ofelia caught him, and even managed to catch himself from falling backwards when she scurried off to get a second round of klah. Really, a morning after hang-over shouldn't be this bad... but then again... he barely remembered his morning afters... so he wasn't sure what he was basing that assumption on.

You appear to be having trouble J'iura.

"Yer late." The rider mumbled, holding his head up with his hands propped against the table while he waited for Ofelia to return. Something small and warm cheeped in the general vicinity of his ear, and J'iura grimaced at the little bronze firelizard. "Yer late too Paako. You're never late."

Fashionably so. You should have gone easy on the drink last night.

"Eey. I thought I was going to get lucky. Don't blame a man for-"

There is no blame. Only stupidity. Dannath cut him off with the draconic version of a sarcastic chuckle. Perhaps J'iura shouldn't blame him, as it was usually the rider who got the tease in, but he really wasn't in the mood.

"Shardit Dannath-!" But his head chose that moment to spin, and he closed his eyes. That unfortunate part of the morning-after where there was nothing wrong with him except for a pounding headache was about the commence... and J'iura almost wished for his blissful incoherence back.

"Just need klah... and maybe that girl was right about a dunk in some water...." He said, mostly to himself, but partially to Paako who was crooning anxiously.

Ofelia returned a few moments later, as if summoned, carrying two piping mugs of Klah and accompanied by a Green flitter moving around her head. The small beast had what looked to be a letter tied to its leg, she obviously was here to deliver a message, and despite giving off plaintive croons to her person Ofelia was ignoring her and continuing on. Must not have been that important, whatever it was.

"Ah, yer awake now? You look a bit better, though ya could stand ta get some color in yer cheeks. I thought riders were supposed to take better care of themselves?"

One of the mugs was presented to the man, Ofelia unsure if it was the one she'd chugged from or not, but germs never seemed to bother her. She'd lived through a shardin' lot worse things than the spit of a stranger. With one mug still extended she quickly took and sipped at the other, the hot liquid actually burning her tongue this time. She gave a faint hiss and a little spit to the side and the floor, her tongue hanging over her lips in an effort to cool.

"Okay, this cup is much hotter than that last one. Blach, my tongue. Puck, gimmie a cube of ice."

Her words were directed towards the flitter and probably a mental image too, as the Green chirped her acknowledgment and popped off between to go and get something. Hopefully it would be the correct item when she returned, but seeing as this 'Puck' was a Green there was serious doubt involved.

"I take it too that yer partner is awake and sent the bronze to see what you were doin'?"

"Feh. Checking up on me would be the last thing Dannath would be asking Paako t'do." J'iura replied, taking the mug from the girl and drawing a long swig like a man starved for water. Like her, he didn't much care who it had belonged too previously, all that mattered was that there was klah in it. "And I sure don't have to dance attendance on him, am sure he likes watching me squirm." He paused to absorb that.. or just to catch his breath. "Wingleader might tan m'hide though..." he added sardonically.

Placing the mug back on the table, he leaned forward and cradled his head in his hands for a moment. The vapors rising from the liquid tickled his nose, but that sensation was far more welcome then the drum roll being played behind his eyes.

"Ah, too bad ignorance isn't always bliss. Thanks for the klah girl, m'sorry I didn't catch your name before. I'm J'iura." he said, offering a hand out to the side for a shake even if the rest of him was still stationed over the mug.

"M'name's Ofelia. I'm from Tannercraft Hall, just here on business wit my brother. Not sure how long we'll be stayin' either, but we just got here today."

Ofelia shook the hand that was extended to her, her tongue still slightly out of her mouth. The burning sensation was going away and it would soon completely vanish the moment that little Green came back out from between carrying something that looked like it should have been ice. Whatever it was it certainly was cool and Ofelia thanked the little flitter before it stopped to settle on her head amidst her strange hairstyle.

"You must have a nice Wingleader if he lets 'is riders get pisstoshed. I know back at the Hall we get ourselves left blistered if any of us so much as look tispy the next day."

"Nah, he ain't that nice. Like I said, I'll probably be the next set of hides you'll be tanning. Old G'an might even commission that my backside hide be used to fashion new leathers for Moroth." The blackrider grumbled, replacing his hand back around the mug where it belonged. Though he did have the day off, and thus an entire afternoon and evening to sober up, he was aware of the consequences should he show up for drill practice the following morning at anything other then his best. Ah well, perhaps a ride to the beach later would help him on the road to sober-land.

Blessed klah, even if it was a bit on the hot side, the side effects were working wonders on his headache. "Knowing that, you'd think I'd have watched my liquor intake eh?" The grin was self-deprecating and mostly aimed towards the mug in his hands, but he spared a bit of it for when he looked back at Ofelia. "Seemed like a good idea at the time, but those would be famous last words." He continued, putting the mug down and leaning back to stretch his back.

"Nevertheless, it was a pleasure to be saved by you this fine morning Miss Ofelia, and I hope you and your brother's time spent at Trine won't be completely taken up by tannerwork." He added once he had felt his shoulders pop, leaning his arms back against the table, his light eyes brightened a bit when he finally saw the little green nestled in her hair. "Ah! You've got a little helper as well, who might that be?"

"My brother says all things in moderation, ya know? I've no place ta judge what ya do an' what ya don't, jus' like ya can't say anythin' ta me about what I do."

Ofelia smiled and nodded her head at being thanked, her stomach a little fuzzy at being called 'Miss.' Most people just screamed or shouted her name when they needed her so it was a refreshing change of pace somewhat to hear someone speak to her. . . without being upset or needing something. She wouldn't let it go to her head though, since Ofelia had been warned to stay off of Dragonriders - they were a spot not to be trusted.

Ofelia never listened to warnings.

"This 'en? This little green is Puck, got her back at the Hall. Found her egg near some picking brine - last one left. The others went on and spoiled from the heat, but she hatched proper an' all. Been wit' me for . . . I dunno, two, three Turns? She's not a youngin' anymore like most of 'em ya see floatin' aroun'."

Puck crooned at the mentioning of her name and rested her lower jaw atop Ofelia's forehead, her blue eyes whirling as she looked at the strange and new man before her. Interesting, interesting!

"An' as for how I pass the time. . . I'd like ta get out an' explore. I'm pretty sure we're gonna be stuck near vats all day tryin' ta explain ta people that they're doin' it wrong and what have ya, so I'd like ta get a bit of freedom in before that happens. Pretty doubtful and selfish, yeah?"
