Ecaterina loved her daughter. She really did. Stop giving her that weird look, she did, but ever since Ili'ella had given birth to her litter of cubs, she had become so-so...boring. Ecaterina was certain she hadn't been that boring and lame when she had given birth to her cubs. She had been a fun mother, always on the move, never slowing down. She had been a good mother, who taught her babies the ways of their elders, but Ili'ella...well, she seemed to have forgotten all that Ecaterina had taught her.
The bright blue lioness shook her head, dispelling the annoying thoughts that crowded her head. Her face was pulled into a smile, even as her mind was churning with annoyances. She wasn't the type to be bogged down by bad thoughts. She would just be happy.
Her hips swung as she walked, to an internal beat that seemed to echo down her being to her very toes, which bounded across the earth with an easy grace. She was humming as she walked, the grass tickling her feet and the sun hitting her face pleasantly as she moved. She had set out early that morning, but the sun was high in the sky now, signaling that it was mid day. She probably should have turned back, if she wanted to make it back to her daughter's den by nightfall, but she had little interest in returning yet.
She just needed something to capture her interest, she mused, pouncing into a rock. No one would think she was a grandmother, looking at her, her youth still obvious even if her body was getting a little worn, shown by her slightly skinny appearance.

Kinaya was ANYTHING if not energetic. The lioness was happy go lucky, she was playful, she was bouncy, but above all else, she had energy to spare. One would never expect a creature like her of being a grownup, were it not for her size, and Kinaya didn't really mind it. Frolicking along - as best a grown lioness can frolic anyway - and pouncing on the occasional rock or bug, she seemed the epitome of youth and vigor. Her coat was pink and her mane blue, glistening in the sun as she ran along, not a care in the world. Well, she did have one care - she was supposed to stay within earshot of Kame'bufuu. But he'd been doing other things and she'd lost track of distance and sound as she went along. Spotting someone up ahead, she called a happy greeting. "Hi there!" Because who didn't greet smiling lionesses with blue coats they randomly came upon?

Ecaterina glanced up when she was greeted brightly and smiled at the female who was nearby. "Hello dear!" She returned the greeting, her smile bright and honest. Oh, she did so love meeting new people. It was in her blood, after all. Rogue to the very last breath, of course.
"My, you're coat is so pretty," she remarked, as she drew closer. The pink was so darling! It reminded her of little baby animals, before their fur grew in. They all started pink, it seemed, she smiled. And Blue! Blue hair, how wonderful. More animals needed blue, she decided.

Kinaya bounced happily over towards the other female, quite pleased that Ecaterina seemed friendly. "Thank you! Your's is really nice too! I've never seen that many shades of blue!"
She ran around the older lioness a couple of times before settling down in front of her. One might mistake her for having cheetah blood but no, she was just overly energetic. "Do you want to play?"

Ecaterina gave a pleasant smile, as the lioness seemed to...bounce. She was so happy, it made the elder lioness want to smile about nothing in particular. She preened at her compliment of her coat, "thank you dear! I do love my pelt."
She got a little dizzy, watching the youth run around her in a fast-paced fashion. It was like watching a cub, running until they exhaust themselves. "Well, it would depend on the game." She didn't want to admit it, but her body wasn't as young as it used to be. She was a little more over the hill that she let on, and games tended to hurt more as an elderly lady than they had as a youth.
"First, do tell me your name. Mine is Ecaterina," she said, deciding to be polite and introduce herself.

"oh yes! I forgot to tell you, didn't I?" Kinaya laughed at her own silliness before shaking her head. "I'm Kinaya."
The younger female was starting to tire out some as she tried to think of a game to play. "Mmm I don't know! Maybe I shouldn't have asked you to play, I can't think of any games." At least, any that weren't a little too ridiculous to suggest to another grownup. Things like tag and bug pounce were a little too silly for her to still play them and she really needed to act like they weren't her favorites.

Ecaterina smiled pleasantly again, more than a little bemused at the childish adult. "Kinaya? What a pretty name! Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Kinaya."
She tilted her head to the side, able to think of multiple games that she could suggest but she would suggest none of them. She was a little too old for some, and others made her wince to think of how her bones would creak doing them. Really, she might look young but Ecaterina's body loved to remind her of how old she was whenever she forgot herself too badly.
"What brings you out here anyway? Surely not simply to find a playmate?" She asked politely.

Kinaya seemed very happy at the compliment, till she was asked what she was doing out. Sheepishly - well, as sheepish as a feline can get, really - she scratched at one of her ears with a paw. "Actually, I uh, sort of wandered away from my mate. He was spending some time with Tai, and I was relaxing and I think I went a bit farther away than I intended."
Really, she was probably going to get in a bit of trouble when she got back, but it was a mistake, right?

Ecaterina giggled a little at the female's reason for wandering, looking amused at the thought of wandering off from her mate. "Oh, I used to do that to Neculai all the time," she mused out loud. "He would panic so when I left, but he usually got over it." She peered at the female, and smiled.
"I do hope your mate would be so forgiving of you wandering off? No harm, no foul, at least. Though wandering off in the rouge lands can be rather dangerous when there are cruel beasts about." She nodded, thinking of a few nasty characters that she'd had encounters with. Not pleasant, especially not for such a pretty and bubbly female like the one in front of her.

Kinaya's eyes widened, "Oh no, I didn't think of that! I hope Kame's okaaaaay." she pawed the ground a bit, feeling somewhat guilty. "He and Tai were just having some alone time so I wanted to go play a bit, I didn't think they might get hurt if I were gone." Not that Kinaya was much use in a fight or any better than former war general (or something of that nature), Kame. But it still felt wrong to have left them.
"Do you want to come back with me? We can check on them and I could introduce you."

Ecaterina felt guilty for worrying the pretty lioness and rushed to reassure her. "I'm sure they're fine, dear heart! Your boy would probably be able to protect them, I'm sure. Males are good for that," she said, with a joking wink to the other female. She hesitated, wishing she could wander off now, but felt so terrible for worrying her.
"I'll walk back with you," she agreed, with a warm smile. "But I can't stay long. Got things to do, you know, dear heart, but I'd be honoured to meet your boy." She nodded, and motioned for Kinaya to lead the way. Well, at least she could help to reassure that Kinaya's boy was safe, and therefore, she'd not feel quite as guilty for worrying her in the first place.

Kinaya seemed somewhat calmed by this response and satisfied with Ecaterina's agreement to help, so she immediately turned to lead the older female back towards where they were presently staying. Kame'd probably find her interesting to say hello to, and Ecaterina was so nice to spend time with! The little pink female almost hoped they'd get to do it again sometime.
After introductions, when it was time for the older feline to leave, Kinny smiled brightly and gave her an affectionate, almost daughterly nuzzle. "It was really great to meet you! We should spend time together again sometime."

Ecaterina smiled back at the girl, and returned the nuzzle. "It was wonderful to meet you too. I hope we meet again sometime," she told the female with an affectionate glance.
"Take care," she told her, knowing she needed to move on. She gave her another nuzzle, called her farewells, and turned to walk away. She was glad that she had made a new friend, and somewhat sad to leave, but that was Ecaterina's life. She was a wanderer, and she wasn't ready to stay in a fixed place for long, though she didn't mind doubling back in hopes of meeting friends again.
