In the Name of the Moon! Character Concept

Glee! At the insistence of Nessy, I had to make a quest thread. >_> Bare with me, as it's a massive work-in-progress, but any tips/crits or advice is openly cherished and welcomed!

Most of the info is up! <3

Name: Christabelle Calloway

Nickname: Christa, CeeCee (only used by her brother)

Age: 17

Birthday: June 9th

Sign: Gemini

Gemstone: Pearl/Alexandrite

Blood Type: Type AB

Fav. Food: A big fan of Mediterranean food, Christa adores a good kebab with a side of tabbouleh. Yum! Most foods that are savory and flavorful are favorites.

Hated Food: The one thing she really dislikes is cheese, especially American. She thinks too much food is slathered in the dreaded substance and that ruins the savory flavors she adores.

School: Meadowview High School

Hobbies:

  • Writing - Christa spends quite a bit of her time in her head when she has free time. With an active imagination to keep her entertained, she often writes a great deal. Usually, this consists of original works of fiction, information on a dream she had the night before or personal thoughts and reflections. Her room is filled with spiral notebooks full of her writings, and she goes through them periodically for inspiration on new stories. Her favorite genre for writing is horror. She loves the idea that simple descriptions can leave lasting impressions on a reader's mind, be they frightening or otherwise. She is fascinated with horror and its effect on people, and strives to write a bestseller someday. She adores the Creative Writing Club at school and is frequently at meetings. She likes to send her manuscripts to her small group of friends to see if they have any suggestions or to ask how they feel after reading it. Successful stories, to her, leave that lasting impression. She doesn't handle criticism too well.

  • Reading Horror Novels- She's not necessarily a huge fan of television, so Christa likes to spend an evening curled up with a good book. Like above, her favorite reading material consists of a good scary story, though she will occasionally delve into other areas like romance or science fiction. She's particularly interested in books that stay with the reader - something with such a vivid description that it takes up permanent residence in one's mind. When a bookshelf isn't full of spiral notebooks, it's full of Christa's latest acquisitions from the bookstore. Sometimes she'll be so engrossed in a book that she'll forget to eat or sleep (such is the curse of good literature!). She loves most anything horror-related: Lovecraft, King, Koontz, Doyle and many others and delves into several genres that horror might encompass (crime, fantasy, paranormal, etc). She has founded the Arkham Horror Society at school, a club dedicated to all things horror.

  • Fiber Arts - While in Home Economics class, Christa found that she's not necessarily good at sewing or crochet, but adores fabric dying and hand embroidery. Her aunt Elizabeth encourages her to keep up with the arts as a possible career and provides advice whenever possible. With the help of a summer job, she's set up a small studio in the laundry room of her aunt and uncle's. There, she has several books on how to hand-dye fabric and embroider designs. She usually makes wall hangings for her room or small embroidery pieces for her backpack or skirt. Most of her designs are derived from stories she's read or written - usually something gloomy and appropriately gruesome to go with her favorite genre. These textiles are sources of inspiration for her at times instead of the product of inspiration. She's written a handful of stories based on a piece she's made out of curiosity. Sometimes her aunt will take her out to sell her work, through which she's been mildly successful. Like her writing hobby, Christa doesn't take criticism of her fibers too well either.

  • Collecting - Some of Christa's favorite places, when not counting her room, include bookstores, stationary stores, libraries and stores specializing in collectibles. She frequents these places on her way home from school several times each week. She is able to afford these collections through odd jobs for her aunt and uncle, selling her fabric pieces or savings from summer jobs. She has several collections taking up residence in her room, including all things Cthulhu, various kinds of stationary (with matching pens, pencils and erasers!), calendars, embroideries and accessories, thread and several epic fantasy novel series. Her stationary is divided up into "not very pretty, so this is usable for any occasion" and "these are so beautiful that writing upon them would be a sin". Especially elaborate designs, floral patterning or something particularly eye catching are kept pristine and unused to preserve them. Other more plain designs are dedicated for actual use. Stationary to her is like fine art and must be appreciated as such. She keeps these collections in their own place, neat and tidy, in her room. If she happens to pass by a store selling something she could use for her collection, she will be hop on it like it's the last one on Earth. If something is missing from her collection, beware! Christa can and will gut the house/school/locker/whatever to find the missing piece.

Virtues:

  • "That can wait. This needs to be done!" - Focused - Her mother was a workaholic and praised her children when focus was maintained. It was said that a good work ethic leads to being a good person, and Christa took this advice from her mother to heart. Christa is very good at keeping her focus on the task at hand. As a result, she's gotten good grades in school and tries to finish her work well before it is due (to free up time for reading!). She is able to minimize distractions by tuning everything out and completing what needs to be done before going on to doing something else. While this process may seem slow, she likes being able to mark things off of her 'to-do' list and doesn't like to leave things in an unfinished state unless she has to. As a senshi, this means she will not leave a task unfinished - whether it be escorting civilians, getting rid of a threat or assisting another senshi. If it needs to be done, she will finish the job to the best of her ability. Of course, this is a double-edged sword. She can easily lose track of the big picture or become too focused on a goal and forget all the others as a consequence. Christa isn't able to prioritize well, and would much prefer to finish one task before taking on another.

  • "I'll be down there right away." - Dedicated - Since her parents' recent divorce, Christa feels good, true friends are few and far between. One must take time, effort and evaluate all possible angles before making such an important decision. Christa is very selective in who she befriends and believes in quality over quantity. She is very careful to find someone that will not often hurt her (as she understands people make mistakes - to a point). Those who she chooses to care for find a very devoted friend in her. She devotes her time and energy into these few people and considers them a gift. She will drop everything in order to help these few people, as they mean the world to her. Her circle of friends is small, but very tight. In senshi form, this means she will not abandon a friend in need for any reason if possible. Even if she cannot use her powers, she will at least provide moral support or assist by distracting the enemy, save civilians or call other senshi to the battle.

  • "Always keep vigilant." - Problem-Solver - Christa is always thinking, planning and scheming an alternative solution to problems she faces from a very strategic perspective. From an early age, Christa has demonstrated that she enjoys logic puzzles, mind benders or unusual situations where she can exercise her mind. In her elementary years, she would ask for books full of puzzles and other activities over traditional toys for Christmas or birthdays, and she sometimes picks up a few while at the bookstore. She takes pride in finding odd or unusual solutions to problems. In battle or on patrol, she is always alert for alternative ways to deal with problems and how to use the environment to her advantage. She may find a mirror to reflect an enemy's attack, or find loose scaffolding that can be brought down upon an attacker. She's also always thinking of solutions in social situations as well. While she may come across as too cold or calculating, it's simply her way of solving problems. It'd probably come as a slight shock if someone outright tells her she's being too logical and she probably will soften somewhat with time.

Flaws:

  • "Why would I want to waste my breath?" - Prickly - Like a cactus, Christa is not friendly to anyone at first. They must earn her trust and admiration through time and dedication, but this often turns off most people and it can take quite a bit of effort to pierce her exterior. After her parent's rather sudden divorce, Christa realized that even the people she loved and trusted could deeply betray and hurt her. As a way to cope and make sure she never felt that deeply scarred again, she put up a very prickly exterior as a way to "screen" potential threats. She is terse, grumpy and sometimes downright rude to people to ease her fear of rejection. If they do not like her, she cannot feel rejected because she caused them to feel that way, not the other way around. She is often seen in the back of the class, keeping to herself and keeping conversations with others short and to the point. As a senshi, this means she is not one to seek out allies - they must first prove they are worth her time an effort to be considered a friend. She may stand by other senshi due to necessity, but she will not like it.

  • "You should listen." - Intolerant - One thing that gets under Christa's skin is fighting. Not fighting of enemies, mind you, but fighting between friends and allies. Disagreements are one thing (especially if they are resolved in a calm manner), but anything else all the way to knock-down, drag-out fights that get physical or verbally abusive are disturbing to her to say the least. The best way for her to cope is to simply interject herself and either take control or diffuse the situation in one way or another. This usually involves stating her very inflexible opinion that all senshi should be allies, otherwise, they're all sitting ducks. Why would you think otherwise? (Or she would state her opinion on the matter no matter what it happens to be). She finds it hard to tolerate people who are unwilling to fight in the war. It's their destiny to do so, so why fight it? She can easily lose her patience with pacifists or others who simply do not wish to fight. Christa thinks of their power as a blessing and finds it hard to believe someone would think otherwise. People who seem to be too lazy or unwilling to solve their own problems using their resources bug her to no end. Her opinion is that if you're too lazy to solve your own problems, then you have no right to complain about it, and she will tell you this if given the chance.

  • "I should have tried harder." - Self-critical - If anything, Christa harbors a great deal of self-doubt. Even if it seems like she's semi-confident in what she's doing, that aching doubt still claws at the back of her mind. She'll replay situations in her mind over and over and devise a million different alternate solutions and wonders why she picked the route she did. Was it the right thing to do? She could have done this... In instances of extreme distress, this self-doubt could cause her pause in making an important decision, stay an attack or she could put herself in danger. Her schoolwork is good, but not perfect and she always wonders if she could have done X, Y or Z and improved the results. Every step through her day, her mind comes up with so many possibilities and sometimes it's very difficult to live with her choices. She also constantly wonders if getting some space from her father was the right decision since the divorce wasn't his fault.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Brown, usually narrowed (due to reading or glaring!)

Hair: Shoulder length and with a slight wave, her hair is a charcoal gray color. She keeps her hair up in four stubs of buns that form an X around her head. She has sprigs of hair that fall over her face, loose from the pigtails.

Face: Her face is slender with high cheekbones.

Clothes: At home, she's usually seen in a long-sleeve peasant top with slim corduroys in an earth tone and brightly-colored socks to show off a little pizazz. When going out, she'll opt for something similar and a jacket.

Challenge: "Stare into the mountain of madness!"

Kallichore is sometimes considered one of the Muses, but she is more often associated with the Nysiads. The Nysiads were a group of nymphs who nursed Dionysus, the God of Wine. Dionysus is often considered the Liberator, "freeing one from one's normal self, by madness, ecstasy or wine." (Wikipedia). This ritual madness may have inspired several other mythology's adoption of gods of this type.

Her name of Christabelle is derivative of Christabella, main antagonist of the Silent Hill movie. Christabella is in charge of a cult who live in the heart of Silent Hill, and controls them through fear and manipulation.

"At the Mountain of Madness" is a novella written by H.P. Lovecraft, a well-known horror writer from the 1930's. H.P. Lovecraft is known for creating the Cthulhu Mythos and its many deities and creatures within.

"...madness is a spectrum of behaviors characterized by certain abnormal mental or behavioral patterns." - Wikipedia

Fuku Colour:

  • Main Color: Crimson
  • Secondary Color: Cyan

Fuku: I'm leaving the design of the fuku up to the artist with a few requests - something having to do with a straight-jacket, keeping with her main and secondary colors, with her emblem of a stylized mouth somewhere in the design. n_n

Attacks:

Sailor Scout Attack: Pulse of the Maddened! User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

  • Attack -- Kallichore raises her hands to cover both of her ears, as if she is hearing something loud and frightening. Then, she pretends to scoop or hold this sound and thrusts it out to the target like she is throwing it. The effect travels quickly through the air and is transparent, but distorts the air like heat waves.
  • Effect -- Like someone suffering from psychosis, the target in essence has an auditory hallucination. They begin to hear voices that aren't there. The amount of voices varies from person to person, but overall, the voices are loud, distracting and sometimes derogatory and can argue with one another. In essence, it's an attack intended to distract or disturb the target.
  • Duration -- 30 seconds. Can be used once per battle.
  • Strength -- Depending on the mental fortitude of the target, the effect can be extremely powerful. Nervous or fearful opponents could become extremely frightened or disturbed by the effect, even after it has worn off.
  • Weakness -- Like above, if the target is has particularly strong mental faculties and is not easily disturbed or scared, the attack becomes simply annoying. Also, if the opponent knows the attack is coming, they can simply avoid the distorted "missile". Friendly fire is possible! If Kallichore hits an ally with the missile effect, the ally will suffer from auditory hallucinations instead.

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Surge of the Maddened!

  • Attack -- Like the Pulse attack, Kallichore places her hands over her ears. She then throws the effect onto the target.
  • Effect -- Like someone suffering from psychosis, the target in essence have auditory and visual hallucinations. They begin to hear voices or see people, objects or animals that aren't there. The amount of voices or visual hallucinations varies from person to person. The visual hallucination is supposed to be "real" for the target. This means that objects (rocks, other people, animals) can be interacted with and can interact with the target. The amount of voices and visual hallucinations varies from person to person.
If Kallichore hits an ally with the missile effect, the ally will suffer from the hallucinations instead.

Eternal Sailor Attack: Glorious Crimson Mania!

  • Attack -- Kallichore places one hand over her forehead and stares at the intended target. The transparent heat-wave effect of her first attack pulsates around her fist and she throws it at the target.
  • Effect -- The most powerful hallucination in her arsenal, the Crimson Mania attack delves deep into the target's mind. In addition to having auditory (voices) and visual (seeing objects that aren't there) hallucinations, the target then has severe tactile hallucinations - most specifically, formication. Formication is the medical term for the sensation of bugs crawling on or under the skin. This hallucination triggers the target's itch reflex and causes them to feel the overwhelming urge to scratch themselves. This attack is intended to overwhelm the target's senses and cause them to potentially self-injure with the amount of scratching or clawing the effect might trigger.
  • Duration -- 30 seconds and is usable once per battle.
  • Strength -- Like all of her attacks, the potency is dependent upon the target's mental fortitude.
If Kallichore hits an ally with the missile effect, the ally will suffer from the hallucinations instead.

Family!

  • Stephanie Calloway - Mother -- Age 45. Stephanie is in upper management as an editor at a publishing house in Destiny City. She spends a great deal of her time away from home, maintaining records and editing author's manuscripts. As much as she doesn't like to admit it, her career is her passion and her family is a distant priority. She is usually away on business and has maintained a workaholic attitude about everything since her marriage to Benjamin. She is frigid to most everyone, calculated and very efficient. These traits have allowed her to rise in the ranks to where she is now. She was recently caught in a scandalous affair with her boss. The family relations are now strained and she and her husband are now divorced. Christa felt very close to both of her parents and was deeply hurt by the divorce.

  • Benjamin Calloway - Father -- Age 42. A lab technician in a nearby hospital, Benjamin was attracted to his wife's studiousness and attention to detail, and appreciates her workaholic attitude. He is also very interested in his work, but makes family priority. Basically, he's become Mr. Mom to his two children because his wife is away so often. He attended medical school in America and uses his knowledge of medicine to research cures for diseases. He is kind and intelligent, but often too trusting and was deeply hurt by his wife's estrangement. He has since grown weary, but tries to keep a strong exterior up for his children. While her father means well, Christa felt deeply hurt and wanted to stay with her aunt and uncle for a while, for therapeutic distance. Zachary, his son, lives with him and attends the local middle school.

  • Zachary Calloway - Brother -- Age 14. Zachary is a fun-loving, dirt-throwing, sports enthusiast of a child. Since his mother was absent for much of his life, he's grown very close to this sister and father. He dreams of becoming a doctor when he grows up, and is the only one Christabelle allows to call her "CeeCee". He and his sister spent much of their childhood entertaining one another while their parents were away, and are very close. Christa would do anything for her brother. Since the divorce, Zachary has noticed a chill creep over his sister, especially when she opted to live with their aunt and uncle over their father, even if it is temporary. The siblings do keep in contact via email or texting whenever possible.

  • Elizabeth Calloway - Aunt -- Age 50. Elizabeth is an illustrator and patron of the arts, volunteering in local schools during the summer to teach art classes. She has helped foster Chista's love of fiber arts during several of these summer schools. She is a sweet and loving person who dotes fondly on her family and husband. She has been happily married for approximately 30 years and has had a very stable partnership. She agreed to take Christabelle into her care and treats her like a daughter. Unfortunately, Christa's distrustful attitude and Elizabeth's inability to have children have caused her to be more depressed than usual. Elizabeth wanted more than anything to have children of her own, so she substitutes with Christa and an assortment of cats around the house.

  • Alexander Calloway - Uncle -- Age 52. Benjamin's older brother, their decade of age difference hasn't been kind. They were never close, but Alex always kept an eye out for his younger brother. Alexander is all brains and works as a software engineer and thoroughly enjoys his work. He is lovingly devoted to his wife and feels that it's partly his fault that they were unable to conceive, but adores Christa and the cats. On weekends, he likes to take his family out to the park to fly kites. He tries his hardest to comfort his wife and Christa in their time of need, but he understands that being a teenager is difficult and Christa is coping with the divorce as best she can.

So I've figured out the concept I want to use for the character, and I have a good idea of what her powers will be, but I have a major problem...

I can't find a celestial body that works!

I thought I saw Lyssa as a celestial body, but I can't find any information on it anywhere. sad Mania/Maniae/Lytta don't have celestial bodies that I can find either. The closest I've gotten is Camilla, which is similar to Carmilla, the crazy vampire lady from Dracula, but I don't know if that's too much of a stretch.

Any help is appreciated! D:

Sorry to break it to you, but Lyssa isn't a celestial body. Proof! No info on christabella, so either stick with Camilla or search for something else.

Help with attck coming soon.....

First off Uri the student name doesn't have to be a celestial body. However, he is right, unfortunately about Lyssa the celestial body is nonexistant. Maybe sort through the minor planets and see if there's something that works better?

If you want help lemme know I'll see what I can do. =3

*peeks in temporarily* Hi Lucifer Force, why not go for one of the Nysiads. If I remember my mythology right they were nymphs who cared for and taught the infant Bacchus who although was a god of wine - was also the god who inspired ritual madness.

Here are some names of some of the Nysiads:

+ Kalyke (also the name of one of Jupiter's moons - link)
+ Kallichore (another of Jupiter's moons - link)

There were more than those two, but I can't remember their names right now.

Hope this gives you some ideas smile

Ooh, that helps quite a bit! Thank you so much you guys!

I could have sworn I saw something on Lyssa in the list of celestial bodies, but it might have been something with a similar name and I spent hours trying to find it again. XD I appreciate your help very much!

I hope to have the attacks and whatnot up tomorrow to see if I can get some good advice and tips. biggrin

I like the base you have so far, Luuuu~ <3 Some points, that we discussed on messenger:

~ Definitely try to spread how her flaws and virtues work in her senshi life as well as her normal life. Some people apply their virtues in wholly different ways while henshined, is she one of them? Or is she just the same person no matter what guise she is wearing?

~ I would shorten the action on casting her attack or make her incredibly swift in movement. Most Negaversers do not wait for you to stand still and cast your attack like in the show, sadly. I would do heart, or ears, but not both. I personally would have her touch her forehead maybe? Because she affects your mind! Dunno, throwing out an idea that I randomly just had.

<3

Hope it helps!

Alrighty! Added info about the family and added a hobby - collecting. After reading several other people's crits, one of the main points was to have a hobby that would get the character out and about for RP interaction. Plus, it makes sense that if she's obsessive about collections, why not make it a hobby? biggrin
