It's been 20 years since the Avatar defeated Phoenix King Ozai. Peace has been a hard but fulfilling goal to achieve and the Four Nations live in harmony once again.

But peace may not last, for the Phoenix King has escaped from his prison and is slowly regaining his bending powers. It's up to Team Avatar, their allies, and the children that have been born to them to find the Phoenix King, stop him before his plans to come to fruition, and save the world. Again.

This is my first rp, I'm still learning, so bear with me.

Background Info: Katara is a Waterbender who, just like her older brother Sokka, was born and raised in the Southern Water Tribe by her grandmother, Kanna. Katara was the last Waterbender in her Tribe, and led a normal teenage life until she and her brother discovered an Air Nomad named Aang frozen in a block of ice. When she finds out he is none other than the Avatar, lost for a hundred years, she becomes hopeful that he is the one who will save the war-torn world. Katara and her brother leave their Tribe behind to travel with Aang, helping him to finally put a stop to the Fire Nation's devastation.

Along their travels, Katara's Waterbending abilities grow steadily with Aang's, until she surpasses him and becomes the Avatar's Waterbending teacher. Her mastery over the element makes her a formidable ally to their group, and she becomes a close friend and mentor to Aang. Once Aang fulfills his destiny and stops the war, Aang and Katara begin a close romantic relationship.

Background Info:
Over 4500 years ago, lightning was an element of fire used by the spirits to punish wicked mortals, controlled by strings of fate. At that time there lived Koina, a very powerful fire-bender, who was also a member of the royal family. However, she was born with an unbearable emptiness, unable to be sated by her ability, status, wealth, beauty, or knowledge. So once the winter solstice arrived, blurring the two worlds together, Koina found a way to enter the Spirit World, and stole the secret of lightning, but not without its danger. Besides having to bear with the immense pain of holding lightning bare-handed, she had to flee from the angry spirits pursuing her, using only a limited amount of fire-bending. There was also the issue of what to do with the secret...she knew she couldn't hold on forever. So she thought quick, and then swallowed it. The effect was instantaneous, filling in the empty space where her heart should have been, and lightning became a free element in the Physical World. Because of its new found freedom and grounding in Koina's body, it became an element that could be learned by other fire-benders, some of which were taught by Koina personally. However, the Fire Sages and Sun Warriors found that lightning was too dangerous to be free, and attempted to steal it back...all met with failure.

The secret of lightning is what keeps Koina as young and powerful as she was the day she swallowed it, but at a cost. If Koina were to lose the secret, not only would she die almost instantaneously, but she would not have a place in the Spirit World to rest, forced to walk the earth as an empty shell. While unable to die as long as lightning is free, she has a slight weakness against some Air Nomads and Earth-benders as they are more capable of defending against lightning.

Koina has a large, visible scar on her right hand from where she carried the lightning, all across her palm and forefingers. The Sun Warriors made a mural depicting the scene of her crime...but she smashed her own face off the mural so that the future generations of Fire Sages and Sun Warriors would have a more difficult time finding her.

She never bore any children, but is a distant ancestor to the royal family and taught a few, including Azula, how to bend lightning.

Backround Info: Azula is the princess of the Fire Nation, daughter of Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Ursa, and the younger sister and archenemy to Prince Zuko. She was a key enemy of Team Avatar, chasing Avatar Aang and her banished brother far across the Earth Kingdom accompanied her two best "friends" Mai and Ty Lee.

A Firebending prodigy, Azula is sadistic, manipulative and obsessed with power. She is a skilled tactician who orchestrated the Fire Nation victory over the Earth Kingdom capital Ba Sing Se and halted the invasion on Day of Black Sun.

Azula harbored deep mental instabilities, believing her mother favored Zuko over her. Raised by her father in an environment devoid of a mother-figure, Azula had to be nothing less than perfect in her father's eyes. After the betrayal of her two closest friends Mai and Ty Lee, these instabilities were brought up to the surface. Upon the arrival of Sozin's Comet, Azula was soon to be crowned Fire Lord; however, her defeat at the hands of her brother Zuko and Katara caused her to suffer a complete mental collapse.

"Ahh, if it isn't my little firecracker." Koina looked pleased, "Filling in for your brother are you? Shame. I had a particular interest in something of his. No matter,"

She sat cross legged and brusquely impudent in front of the obvious uncomforted and agitated guards. She was an elder of Azula, her mentor and teacher, and a royal ancestor to boot. She held a greater voice than anyone realized.

"I heard they shut you up in an institution," she said slyly, nastily. She may have influenced a great deal of nastiness on Azula's part, but she always reminded her of who was the master, and who was the student.

"Quite the opposite," Koina laughed, "When I mentioned just who it was that sent her brother the Ocean Spirit running with his tail between his fins, she chose to keep quiet. Besides..." She gestured to her scarred hand, "The spirits are more than careful to stay away from me."

"But that's not why I'm here. Tell me...what do you know of your brother's precious little darling Keiko?"

"I'm afraid little Keiko isn't as maelable as you were Azula," Koina said with a dismissive wave at the Fire Princess, "You think yourself a mighty dragon, but Fire Lord Zuko has seen as I have thousands of years passed, and has a deep understanding I doubt you could grasp. I have mastered every possible fire-bending, and more. Were it not for my teachings, my doings," Koina lit up a crackling bolt of lightning buzzing angrily in her palm. "You'd merely be the forgettable second-born, held onto for appropriate and useful marriages."

Her tone was strict and icy, laced with poison. It would mean nothing to her to strike down Azula now; she'd long lost her interest and all it'd be is another exciting venture of destroying half the military forces of the Fire Nation in keeping her freedom.

"Mortals do not match up with gods," Koina reminded, "Keiko is what amuses me now Azula."
