I made the pattern and all!
No pics yet. :'D The shell is made of strawberry print canvas. Lining is white drill and white twill tape. C:
I spent a bit of the afternoon tracing my pattern off after blowing up an 8th scale I made last week.
Spent the earlier part of my evening sewing the shell and lining pieces. The latter part of my evening was me working out a boning method then actually boning it. Only half done at the moment, as I'm using Birch plastic boning and I've found I needed to double up - and thus ran out of boning.
That, and I need more twill tape. I will take pics tomorrow and post them here. ;O
I am NOT looking forward to doing the eyelets. D;

Lining is now attached to the shell (though not in a finished way)

Ditto, but with more in the shot (should have taken one from the smooth side. This is inside out. xD
The boning I'm using
Rough look in-situ. It'll be way more huggy and awesomme when I'm done. 8D
Still need: More boning. emo Will go shopping soon.

If anyone has a great eyelet brand they can point me to, I'd love it. My Birch ones went all retarded and split when I was doin' mah thang. They're all burry and catch on the lacing. ;3; I tried to clean up the burrs (TOTES DESPERATE TO FINISHHHH) but it didn't work. ;_;
Eyelet fail, happlily on my tester swatch.
Edging, green satin. o3o
Corsety goodness all ready for eyelets.

I'm worried that I may have made it a little long above the waist, but if that is the case, I know exactly how to fix it. eek heart
I think that's one of the coolest things about making something from scratch; you know how it works and how best to remedy any mistakes.

Went out again today to find decent eyelets (though I've found what you call eyelets for dressmaking we call grommets). No luck!
Edit: ******** THIRTY-SEVEN DOLLARS US FOR POSTAGE ON ONE LITTLE BOX OF GROMMETS.

Little update:
I have a die coming from the US. THAAANKS EBAY. xD Nowhere local could help me. burning_eyes Should be here before the end of next week.
I also sourced more grommets locally from an upholstery/flooring place. $7 for 100. xD 8D <3
Corset will be finished soon, hopefully. o3o

I finished it about twenty minutes ago.
My die came in the post earlier this afternoon. <3
I ran out of the light-coloured lacing while I was lacing up the back, so the front is currently laced in black. I will hopefully get into the city tomorrow to go buy some more, then lace it with the riiiiight colour - then pics!
I have decided that it's a little high, as it presses against my boobs in places. That should be easily rectified when I redraft the pattern. :3 I'll also add in some more waist compression, as this isn't compressing at all, just shifting things around a bit. Good ol' 26 inches. xD I'd like to make a 22 inch one, but I'll get some more practise in first.
To sum up: Pics tomorrow.
Later edit: Some friends were reeeeally insistent, so here's a quote from a conversation:Genea The boning is crap plastic stuff that bends when it really shouldn't be, but since this is my first I'll just live with it, and order steel boning in for my second (so expensive ToT).
Ignore the colour and length of the front lacing. D;

Sadly, I failed my first attempt at a corset. I'll probably have to get someone to make it for me or teach me to sew. sweatdrop

I'm ordering some flat steel boning for it when I get paid next. It warps WAY too much for any extended wear. D;
I took a year-long course in fashion design last year. I not only learned how to design cool clothing, I also learned how to sew, patternmake and do trade drawings. For only AU$250! eek
