The day was bright and sunny, the misshapen alpha was on his own again, not far from the pack near the water he loved and cherished so much. His life had been a sad tale, gotten better then dreariness became a solid part of his heart. He eyed the image frowning back at him from beyond teh real world, he wished siletnly he were with himself, in the waves, longing to be where missed events couldn't haunt him.
While he was gone before he missed his young ones grow up, he himself got older and regretted so much. His young daughter Tempest and son Raiden grew up under the same umbrella with him. Tempest went insane because of their trip, while Raiden stayed Raiden almost, he just got quieter. "What is an old, ill wolf to do in times like this?" He was a Grandfather now, he had briefly met Derecho's children, his grand-children, it made him smile for the longest time since he coudl last remember.
"Children, so many children, even Meme's belly was full from what I could tell." He smirked and silently beat ideas off his head of her bearing children, he laughed wildly, a crazy look in his eye that faded moments later. He seemed right at mind, til his thoughts took over, then he was a bit.. over the river bend.
"I wish for unity, to be apart of the pack again, as it was before my misadventure." He murmured and almost began to cry, his eye's glistened and he let himself slide down to a laying position, feeling unworthy to be here.

It wasn't entirely unusual for Mene to spend his time alone these days and Chiv was feeling guilty for letting him do so - but she had no idea how to help him and with so many new members and pups running about, if she was truthful she would have to admit she'd practically given up on the big grey male. Putting her attentions into the pack instead and hoping he would come around on his own.
It didn't seem like this would be the case however and Chiv had been considering other options for the good of the pack, but even thinking these things just made her feel even guiltier. She still cared for Mene...still loved him somewhere in her mind, but she longed for the old Mene. Not this shell of a wolf he had been lately.
When she saw him laying by the rived she almost...almost...just walked on by. She had to check on Corvus and his pups..look in on Derecho and his, check on Merrill. But she paused and after a few moments of hesitation padded towards Mene, he seemed even lower then normal and Chiv being the wolf she was couldn't let him lay there and suffer on his own. coming up beside him she rubbed her muzzle on the back of his head.

Menelaus lifted his head and looked at Chivosi, right in the eye's. He stared at her warmly, fondly, his tail even wagged. She was the hope he needed to even keep on living, he felt like a sick old fool and she was his young daughter. the tears in his eye's were obvious enough for anyone, even at a long distance, he was in pain, the emotional kind.
"I'm going to beat this Chivosi, kill this demon inside me." He growled fiercely, he was starting to come around slowly, but as most things, before things got better they'd get worse. "He lowered his head a moment after, as if fighting taht moment he had wore himself out.
"What has become of me, nothing beyond younglings around has changed its' me. I want me back Chiv, do you have any idea what I can do. I am not myself, I want my cheer back." He sighed softly, he thought of his children and smiled warmly, remembering the pile of rocks Derecho had collected with Tempest.
"Remember when everything was young?" He asked, a true smile formed on hsi lips, he looked like his old self at that point, happy go lucky and free spirited, not caged. "Remember, when Aleu began her first songs, the rocks we had piles of.." He murmured quietly. "And Derecho, barking orders!" He laughed loudly at that, staring into the water, as if it projected his life.

Chivosi wasn't sure how to respond to Mene's words - she hoped he spoke truth and he would indeed beat the depression that had taken hold of him, but she was also guarded. She didn't think she could afford to put her hope into him and deal with being disappointed again. "I know you have been sick, and I know you blame yourself for the troubles of Raiden and Tempest..but you have been back for quite some time now and if you don't start getting well again they won't either. They worry over you and fret. You three are trapped in a vicious circle and no one can break you out but yourselves" She told him, not harshly..but seriously.
Chivosi had spent allot of time pondering the troubles of her mate and children. "Derecho still orders others about much to his mates dismay and Aleu still sings" She told him in a softer tone "I believe she and Verse - Merrills adopted son might even have feelings for one another" She had hoped that the arrival of Derecho's pups would help to break Mene out of his shell, if puppies couldn't what could? Perhaps he needed the chance to father pups to adulthood? Without leaving as he had before? Chivosi considered this thought..but with so many pups in the pack already she couldn't afford to add her own litter to the mix even if they would be born well after these had grown some.
It was a desperate thought - but Chiv was a desperate female. She would keep the thought in mind - she wasn't against seducing him some night if it took the shock of a second litter to wake him up.

Menelaus gazed at her proudly, he loved an adored his family, he also missed them very much. "I know I'll have to be the one to break us free. I realize the pain and punishment we've put on ourselves, it is why I'm pushing myself, I'm weak, but my strong will is still crafty." He smirked then smiled, it was forced, but his original.
"I love you Chivosi, with all my flea bitten heart. I'll love you and this land til the day I die." He nodded slowly, a twinkle in his eye that never vanished, even in his darkest days. He was not a wolf to give up, just not who he was.
He looked ta her expectantly. Looking for a love in return, or something.

Chivosi sighed slightly - she hated to see him so down, sh recalled vividly the wolf he had once been. How proud he had been on their new lands, of their pups, their growing list of members. She recalled the way he used to play in the river and the looks Merrill had directed towards them - alpha's playing more like pups.
It was all in the past. Chiv hadn't seen Mene play since he'd returned ill some time ago but that smile was the same and the twinkle in his eye was the same and it it gave her hope. Hope that maybe someday he would return to the wolf he once had been. Chivosi was not a creature to easily give up on such things and she did still love him she knew - even if she feared the pain that love would cause her if he failed to come out of this whole and well again. Laying down beside him rested her head across him back.
"I love you too Mene"

Receiving the confirmation of love he so desired made his body shiver and his tail to wag. He missed the joy he brought Chiv, it wasn't there anymore, it brought a good sense of determination. He imagined this is what happened in most packs. Eye's closed, he pictured a mirror image of their rivals, Alpha weakened, perfect striking chance, a chance to take over and create a long lasting peace with one simple war. Their own pack was not like that, he smiled largely.
"We are still strong because of you." He stated simply, feeling a small blurb coming on. His pelt shivered as his skin tingled again, he was feeling much better that day. His voice even became stronger, it wasn't pleading, it was almost to his apha dominant speech giving moment type of voice. The power only given to a small amount of wolves.
"My alphess, my partner. I remember when you found me, near the water a lonely wolf." He took a moment to breath out, a strong wolf could be upset, maybe even cry a little. Menelays, the fool he had always been avoided it. "I remember our first smiles, our first night together.. meeting Meme.. You had brought a new world to me, a new idea and Meme brought a much needed friendship." He smiled tenderly. "Then our little darlings were born. Oh I couldn't have been a more proud alph and Father, especially mate." He heaved a breath and smiled broadly, a couple of tears hit his gray pelt and slid down his cheeks to where his muzzle was whitening, showing signs of aging. "You remember? Of course you do, you're much more sane then I.."
His tail flicks and he looks away, his water sat longingly a few inchs from his paws, his favorite time of day was early morning when it sparkled, it was far from morning, but it seemed to sparkle now for them. A weird show an tell of the spark still in Mene, all the while he's been growing again, starting from teh beginning and struggling out here by himself. He trained better on his own, and the progression was all thanks to teh remembrance that he was still a Father, no matter how much he'd sucked at it.
"Chiv.. Chivosi.." He paused. He hadn't much considered this,. but he remembered the time when he was closest to her then most anything.. "Would you.. consider having another litter?" He asked slowly, his voice was excited, tail wagging and eye's glittery, but the words came out with a wave of unsurity. The moment had been calm just moments before, but the idea of pups stirred his body into a restless situation.

Chiv sighed lightly - it had been so long since she'd simply lay beside Mene and enjoyed his company, he'd been so very distant for the last while that even in their den she'd never really felt close to him. The memories of their early days were good ones, happy days that she thought of often. "I remember" She told him softly, her eyes also on the water, watching the ripples as the brushed along the shore. Chiv had always found the water peaceful but she'd never loved it on the same level as Mene had.
These thoughts were stilled however as Mene asked his next question. Ironic that she had been considering the same thing not to long ago as a way to force him into bucking up a little bit. Even with their distance lately it was like he could still read her thoughts from time to time. They were still close she reminded herself, they still felt for one another - everyone went through rough patches from time to time."I..have thought about it" She admitted sheepishly to Mene "I guess...I thought maybe it would help you, I would love to have more pups while I'm still young enough to follow them about" she laughed lightly.

The sigh, the shifting, the words, her mind was still open to him and he relaxed a bit. "I had almost thought we'd lost our connection!" He proclaimed saddly, but he smiled again. "It seems we still have it, and I agree with that Chiv.. I would love to be able to run with them and play." He smirked at the poking of true old age.
"You'll never be old Chiv, no matter how mature you are you're still a child at heart. Young at heart is young at mind, but you're the best kind.. you're my kind. Both brilliant, able to sit and wait, patience is needed among these growing generations.." He licks her muzzle lovingly.
"So we shall try for another batch, we have to beat out Meme and Derecho anyway!" He laughs softly, his normal self seeming to shed more light on their current conversation, he was excited as all wolves get when pups are mentioned, it was a common and almost unstoppable emotion.
"When should we tell everyone else..?" he hadn't really stopped to finish asking if she would, he was still bull-headed and if he enjoyed something couldn't help, but get right into it without thinking.

It was another beautiful day, Aleu thought to herself as she padded along the river's edge. She had just finished doing a border check and was taking some time to relax and think on many things. Humming the melody that was currently stuck in her mind Aleu was for the most part enjoying this time. There was one or two things that were still bothering her, one being Verse and the other being her father and two siblings still odd behavior most days. But she just kept telling herself that those things would get better, she just needed to give them more time.
Pausing for a moment Aleu spotted two wolves up ahead they were both very familiar. Her parents were laying together just up ahead. Even since father had returned he seemed so distant even around mother, but perhaps he was getting better. Padding forward slowly Aleu kept her humming quiet not wanted to interrupt their moment together but at the same time wishing to have some close family time once more. And now that she was closer she realized just how happy her father looked, and her mother as well. This cause Aleu's heart to jump just a bit. Mene was making progress, this was a sure sign of it.

Chiv laughed lightly as Mene's praise "Perhaps not love, but not even a young mind can conquer the restrictions of an old body....though we have some time yet before we have to think of that." She told him with a lick to the top of his head. And thankfully they still had a while too - considering the pups in the pack already - of course they would likely be grown somewhat by the time she and Mene had some more.
That would be good - youthful eyes to watch over the younger pups would be more then helpful. Her ears twitched slightly as a soft humming caught her attention and lifting her head she glanced about until she caught sight of Aleu. Nudging Mene and thumping her tail in a greeting to her daughter Chiv chuckled slightly "Well I expect you can start with telling Aleu" She told Mene with a motion towards their daughter "It seems we've been found out"

Menelaus gazed lovingly at his mate and then felt his eye's glow proudly at his daughter, a beautiful pelt like her Mothers. "Aleutian!" He proclaims happily, his sing-song daughter wasn't to good on sneaking with a hum to her tone. "Did you hear the news hun?" He stands now, pelt glistening with dampness of the water splashing.
"Your Mother and I will be having more pups in the future. It's been decided." He smiled brilliantly, a smile not seen by anyone recently beyond the alone times with Chivosi. He shared it now though. He limped a bit to approach his daughter.
"They shall hopefully be as beautiful as my first litter, perhaps even develop your sing-song voice daughter! Or Derecho's cunning and leadership. I hope Tempest's innocence burns deep in their veins and Raidens caring." He noted strong points that he admired most in their first litter. Things he saw even as their adult-hood, even Tempest who had long been destroyed from her innocence.
"How would you feel, Aleutian, being a big sister to little ones?" He smiled encouragingly, half expecting a tantrum about how he may not deserve the new litter. It certainly was a treat.

"Father." Aleu said with a smile on her maw. "It's good to see you out and about." Coming to a stop Aleu gave her father a small bump with her muzzle, she did still love him very much even if he hadn't been there for her as a pup. "Mother." Her eyes ticked over to Chiv for a moment but returned to her father, for it was clear he had something to tell her.
The news was a bit of a shock. They planned to have more pups? Aleu loved pups, loved them very much but currently the pack seemed to be overrun with them. But she supposed that it would probably be a while before they actually went through with it, he had after all said in the future. Her smile widened a bit as she looked at her father, who seemed to be returning to his old self. "I think having younger siblings would be great. I could teach them songs and tell them stories."
It would be great to have younger siblings to care for and play with, but there was something bothering her that Aleu just couldn't hold back, and she could only hope her father wouldn't take it the wrong way. Taking a step back she let her smile fade, her question was quite serious. "You...you won't leave this time will you?"

Chiv watched her daughter's reaction curiously, of all of her children Chiv figured Aleu would take things the best. She was hot tempered..but the most even tempered and logical of the brood. Chiv hadn't missed Aleu's deft handling of Derecho's feelings when Terreis had left him for a while.
So it somewhat shocked her when her daughter asked the question she did, her brows pinched in worry - not because her daughter didn't have the right to ask such a question but because she fretted over how Mene would handle it. He was just starting to come around again...she didn't want anything sending him back into a depression. "Aleu!" She scolded her daughter for not thinking things through before uttering them.

Menelaus was giddy then silent, he felt his face muscles strain for that smile, felt his eye's become stone and his heart sink, tears bridged his eye's and he looked away, unable to hear the scolding or make sense of how he felt. Suddenly as if a bubble burst and heaved a shaky breath and stared at Aleutian, his eye's were cold with self hatred, but he wore a grin, it was dangerous and self loathing.
"It's okay Chivosi.. she has full right to ask such a question. I won't be leaving again." He made for no apology to her, he wouldn't apologize for something he could not control, his children knew better he figured, but this had proved him wrong. Had proved he was the worst Father in the sands of time. He grumbled a few hateful words to himself and turned tail to his daughter and slumped near his river.
He was not depressed, the simple and understandable question shouldn't have shocked him, but it didn't, it stung badly and he tried desperately to absorb, to let it seep in and drain free, but it wouldn't. Her usually sing-song voice seemed like poison right then, taunting his memory painfully. His tears flowed in his fury, freely down his muzzle. He remained silent, unsure of what Chiv would do, how Aleu would react to her Fathers change of face, even in his return he only wore a tired expression. Never cold, never regretful, never self-loathing.
Her words had cut deep.
