It was a beautiful day. The sky was a vivid blue, with just enough traces of cloud to keep the bright warm sun from being overpowering. A faint breeze kept the air fresh and cool enough to offset the heat of the day. The faint sweet smell of flowers blooming around the small watering hole was stirred by the small breaths of wind, and a few birds sang with the joy of life on such a lovely afternoon from the rich lush trees.
And Aiko was unhappy.
The black cheetahess sighed at her reflection in the still pool, the breeze barely rippling the glassy surface. She was beautiful, she knew she was. Many a boy had told her so, and even a girl or two though she hadn’t quite known what to make that. Even now, outlined against the soft hues of the blue skies that reflected in the surface of the water, she could see so very easily why they might. Her build was slender and graceful, her fur silky and sleek and glowing with health in the sunlight. Her features were well shaped, and her rich purple eyes had an air of mischief and mystery, a secret storm of passion waiting behind the soft indigo of her bold gaze.
So why was she all alone?
Aiko was a tough, fierce young female. It was true that she was a flirt, true that she loved to fall in love and out of it again overnight. She loved the game, loved the rush, loved to find the beauty of others and hear her own praises sighed into her ears. Her brother didn’t seem to care, didn’t understand. He was so stiff, he couldn’t possibly understand the matters of the heart and soul and mind that Aiko played with in such great joy. Charm worked so many more wonders that standoffish manners and bared fangs. Her brothers didn’t see. Some of those she’d danced through the game of love did, or at the least they caught a glimpse or two while her presence dazzled and swept them away.
But the one thing that could get her down was the very demon that plagued her in this moment. Loneliness. With naught but a faint birdsong and her own reflection for company, the soft whispers of doubt, the wonderings of what might have been…they plagued her they did! Secrets she hid from everyone, even her brothers. Even when they meant well…they could never understand! She doubted that they’d want to. No, no some companionship was all she needed. One other person, any other person, someone who she could play these games with, someone who would, just for one moment, reach out to her. Find a piece of something, and suddenly understand what it meant to be alive. To be real. To be free.

Dysini'mbus was still a young male, still strong, still powerful and quick moving but he was starting to feel older. Like he was already worn out, which was silly because he was barely older than the usual adult but he had been walking for so long. Of course, it didn't mean that he wanted to settle down or anything, it was just that he wanted something new to see, some new scenery, or something exciting to make life seem like an adventure again.
He loved beautiful days like these, it made walking a joy, and his paws hit the ground with satisfying thuds. He was making no attempt to hide his approach from anyone, he wouldn't hide away today. Today was a wonderful day for adventure, exploring, it was a day for discovery. Which was a very girly thought, he mused, frowning slightly. What did males think? This was a horrid day. It shouldn't so bright that the flowers glistened, or that the pretty birds flew. Ugly, ugly day.
His coat was white, pure and clean from hours spent grooming it that morning before setting out on a walk. He had thought of hiding the pink on his shoulders with mud but he hated the feeling of it caking and drying on his fur, it was just...disgusting. He shuddered at the thought and shook his head. It wasn't even that girly, he tried to assure himself, but he was lying. Dysi hated being girly. He was raised with all sisters, in a mother-only environment. He was girly. He just didn't want other people to say he was girly.
Huffing to himself as he walked, he glanced up at a pair of birds which flew over his head. He grinned at them, their bright colours raising his spirits. The birds flew towards him, dancing above him in the air and watching him curiously. Laughing to himself, he stopped to watch them, eyes glittering in delight at the birds. He found simple pleasure in the oddest things, he thought to himself, watching as the couple took to the sky and disappeared off on their own adventure. Such a beautiful couple.
Shaking his head, he set off again, glancing regretfully towards the sky, sad to have seen them go. The scent of water tickled his nose, and he glanced towards where it was coming from, spying a watering hole. Perfect! His throat was parched from the warm weather, though it was not hot. His paws made an almost drum-beat noise as they thudded onto the earth and he drew closer, spying a dark figure at the bank's edge.
It was a cheetah, he realised, as he slowed his pace, his mismatched eyes taking in the figure. It was a slender female, and darkly coated. She was a stark contrast to his own light fur, and he felt a small smile twist at his face. So pretty. Cheetahs always had such lovely bone structure, not like some bulky leopardesses he had seen.
"I hope I'm not intruding," he said, his voice soft. He even sounded girly, he sulked inwardly, but showed no hint of it outwardly.

Aiko's ears swiveled around at the pawsteps, so she didn't jump when she heard the voice behind her. She wasn't startled, she'd known he was there. Just because she hadn't opted to turn and look as they pawsteps drew closer didn't mean she wasn't aware of them. She was just...she was just still thinking. Besides, it was only one person. She could handle herself with just one person.
"There's plenty of room," Aiko assured the strange...male? The voice seemed almost like it could be either. She studied the reflection for a moment, indecisive, before lifting violet eyes to the pretty leopard at the water's edge.
And pretty, male or female, was the word to use. His fur was []beautiful, with soft touches of pink in just the right places. So silky and smooth looking, and his build...yes, it was a he. Females didn't have...muscle...quite like that. Not that he was heavily muscled, no. No he was just right...
"I wouldn't mind a little company..." she added softly, her eyes turning back to her reflection in the pool. She didn't like being alone...

If Dysi was surprised by her lack of reaction to his sudden appearance, he didn't show it. He sort of assumed that she had smelt or heard him coming, since he had made no attempt to hide his approach. The fact she did not panic, or strike out, meant that at least she was friendly.
He moved closer to the edge of the watering hole, not far from where she was but purposely not close in case he invaded her space. Lowering his face to the water, he took quick laps to satisfy his thirst before lifting his head, tongue quickly cleaning off the drops of water around his mouth before glancing towards her.
Her presence was quiet, almost hard to spot, and she seemed captivated by something in the water. He didn't know whether it was her reflection, or something passed her reflection, deeper into the water.
"Are you out here on your own?" He asked, quietly. She had said she would not mind company, did that mean she traveled alone? Such a pretty thing shouldn't be alone, he decided, taking a seat beside the water's edge, close enough to speak comfortably with her without raising his voice.

So maybe Aiko's eyes flickered to him as he crouched to lap up a drink. Maybe it was just habit by now. They'd still drifted back to the glassy reflection in the water. She was her best company it seemed. At least she could understand herself. Others might be deceived...but she refused to fool herself. As if such a thing were possible...it wasn't, was it?
"For the moment," Aiko replied, her tail finally giving a tiny little flick. "I've been traveling with my brothers but I...ah...lost them." On purpose. To have some fun without a certain stick-in-the-mud.
"What about you?" she asked a moment later, turning her eyes onto him now as she spoke. She wanted to catch his reaction, see what he did. He might lie to her after all, though she doubted it. He didn't feel like a threat. Heck, even her brothers, Baride and Bungie, she could tell those two were dangerous even though neither threatened her. But this leopard...he didn't feel like danger.
He felt like he might be company.
Company would be so nice right now...

Dysi was glad to hear that she was not alone all the time, though he was surprised she was traveling with her brothers, and not a mate or a family of some sort. Eying her again, he wondered why. she was a pretty little thing, and did not seem aggressive or crazy. (OOC: You'll regret that thought, later, Dysi >>) "Lost them? Do you need help to find them again?" He asked, sounding mildly worried. Loosing people was always a hassle, and it usually took a fair while to find them again.
He glanced at her when she asked him a question, and tilted his head, glancing away and looking back towards the watering hole. Similar to what she had been doing. "Oh, I'm always traveling alone," He explained, a faint smile on his face. "My family is far flung now, and scattered, so there is little time for me to spend with them, so now I travel and simply meet new people." It was not a pitying statement, or even said sadly. He was happy with his life, even if it got a bit boring from time to time.
"Would you tell me your name?" He asked, rather suddenly, and a little out of sorts, as if he wasn't quite used to social norms yet. "I am Dysinim'bus, but most call me Dysi."

"Hm? Oh, no, I should be able to find them," she assured the nice pretty white leopard with those beautiful spots... "It's not too difficult, I have a general idea of where they were when I seperated myself." And that was probably as close as she'd come to telling a stranger that she'd lost them on purpose. But she had. Nana was such a wet blanket, she couldn't be expected to be the 'prim and proper' sort that he seemed admant about.
"Meeting new people is fun," Aiko purred in agreement, enjoying the faint smile she saw on his face. "I'm Aiko. It's a pleasure, Dysi," she laughed, a bright warm sort of sound. Just happy. She was always in a little bit of a mood for flirting, and if he started something she would certainly reciprocate. But she didn't feel like starting something herself at the moment. "So...come here often?".
It was a valid question. The area was quite pretty, and the water was cool without being mucky like some of the watering holes she'd stopped at before. Perhaps, if he did frequent the area, she could run into him again sometime when she was looking for company.

Dysi nodded, pleased that she would be able to find them again. "Do you travel often with your brothers or do you have somewhere you call home that you will meet them again?" He asked, sounding curious. He knew people usually had territories, but that idea was an unpleasant thought to him.
"Aiko," he repeating, his voice a rumbling purr, as if trying to cement the name in his mind as he looked at her. He tilted his head to the side as she asked, amused.
"No," he admitted, shaking his head. "I've never been here before, so you were a nice surprise," he shot her a small smile, before continuing, "I rarely stay still for long, and I rarely visit the same place twice, so this is completely new."

"Mm, no territory, no," Aiko confessed. "But I can find them," she added, quite confident. How hard did he think it was to find her siblings? She'd trace her path back the way she'd come, and then find their trail where she'd split up from them. Sometimes she met them on their way to come and find her. So it wasn't so hard really...
Aiko's crooked smile grew at the way he purred her name, oh, it just made her fur prickle in the most delicious way!
She was to be disappointed though, when he explained he was never in the same place twice. Well...drat. How was she supposed to find him again then? Still, his comment that she was a nice surprise...maybe if she hadn't been feeling quite so lonely...
But she'd barely even tried to charm him and here he was, being so very kind... Aiko got all warm and floaty just talking to him. "Well, if you never visit the same place twice... then... I suppose I'll just have to find you someplace else next time I'm all by my lonesome," she purred, a faint giggle evident in her tone. It made her somehow less flirty, but she found it to be delightful. He was being friendly anyway, and she hadn't gone about blatantly hitting on him yet!

Dysi smiled at the female when she purred back at him, his head tilted to the side as he eyed her. She was a pretty female, and no one could doubt that, but there was something about that intrigued him more than just her beauty.
"You would want to find me again, hmm?" He asked, sounding a mix between curious and honest. He didn't understand why someone so pretty like her would want to meet someone as girly as him, when she could obviously have her pick of other males, whenever she liked.
It wasn't that the male had low self-esteem, he just knew his faults and characteristics and he was girly. As much as he hated it, he was. So, why would she want to see him again?

Oh, oops. That probably hadn't come out the way it could have...but at least it was honest. Honest could be good. Aiko beamed at the beautiful boy she'd stumbled across. She liked him. A lot. She liked him and she hadn't even been flirting or anything. It was so...so odd. But in a good way.
"I think you're someone I'd like to know better," Aiko explained sweetly. Maybe for more than just a night, though she wouldn't mind having that with him too.
No. Be a tiny bit more careful with this one. It already felt good, and she was actually behaving herself. Nana might be proud. Ugh. Well, she wasn't spoiling this on his behalf, no way. "You seem very... very... genuine," she decided finally. Although she didn't know him well at all, and probably shouldn't be making snap judgments. But this was one of the longest conversations she'd had in a long while, aside from her brothers. She liked talking to him, it was nice.
Definitely wanted to know him better. Oh yes. So much better. And maybe when she did, then they'd do more than talk. Mmm...much more...

Dysi was curious about her. She was so...odd. There was something about her, something so strange. Perhaps it was because she seemed to be being honest. Which was a rare trait now'a'days.
"Why would someone like you want to know someone like me?" He asked, sounding curious but not self-pitying. "You're beautiful, I'm sure that you would have many more men lining up to spend time with you." Many more that were more manly than him, for sure!
"Genuine? Can anyone not be genuine?" He asked, now sounding amused, perhaps a little naive. Dysi did not like lies, and he rarely lied unless it was to spare someone's feelings, so he liked to think that no one else would do that to him, though he was aware that people lied.

Aiko smiled sadly. ”It’s so very easy to not be genuine,” she told him softly. She’d met many who were false. So very many. It was…depressing. Sometimes she wondered if everyone in the world wore a mask and played a part. Even she did, sometimes. It was barely a mask though, she wore it so closely to her real face that she hardly felt like she was being false. In a lot of ways, she was more honest then. But perhaps there was a difference between being honest and lacking inhibitions…
”So, if you’ll allow me, I’d like to counter your question with one of my own.” The cheetah’s smile grew from mournful to playful rather rapidly. ”Why would I not want to spend time with you? It is true that I’ve other men, though to say that they wait patiently in line would be a far cry from the truth, as would my saying I was unaware of their…intentions…” Aware of them she was, yes. Encouraged them sometimes too, more often than not these days. But there was something about it that was just so… she felt lonely anyways, most days. There was a lack of connection, emotionally anyway. Maybe she needed a best friend or something. But it was a difficult idea for the young cheetahess. There was always that something more than friendship, and that was what she wanted most of the time…
”Maybe I like you because you’re different from the rest.”

He tilted his head to the side as she spoke, she sounded saddened for a moment, but then seemed to push aside that sadness to be replaced with a playful grin.
He was flustered for a moment, trying to discover how he could answer her question without sounding rather stupid. "You deserve someone much more well suited to you," he told her, hoping he did not sound foolish. "I am not as beautiful as you are, and not nearly as interesting," He chuckled, a self-depreciating sound, but his smile was honest.
"Different? That's one way of looking at me," he said with a wink.

At that, Aiko actually laughed. "Silly boy," the cheetah chuckled, shaking her head, "You are very beautiful." Which might not be exactly the sort of compliment a male looked for but...eh. Aiko thought it so. She was complimenting the beautiful silky while leopard with the pretty little spots.
"Besides, your sort of 'different' really is quite wonderful," she added softly, "I do get tired of those who claim themselves to be suited to me." Sometimes. Just a little. Those boys were fun after all. They just...they all left. Which was fine, truly, but maybe a guy who stuck around some would be nice. Not that she wanted to settle down or anything. But someone who kept more company than not would be nice. Someone who talked more than just game.
Someone like him, perhaps...
