The young cheetahess sighed, her indigo eyes lifted to the whisps of cloud that chased along the slowly darkening skies. Twilight was such a pretty time, just right to settle down with a charming companion to watch the stars wink into the darkness one by one. Which was part of what was bothering Aiko at the moment. She couldn’t find Dysi. She’d the pleasure of running into a pair of very sweet cheetahs the evening before, but what those boys were looking for certainly wasn’t Aiko. And if it had been, and who wouldn’t want her?, well, that was too bad. Perhaps someday. Maybe.

No, not likely. Dysi, beautiful sweet creative Dysi, now he was the one she really wanted. Just because fuddy-duddy old Nana disapproved, though somehow her snobby older brother had managed to get Dysi’s attentions, didn’t mean Aiko was going to just give up! Which was why she was out here, all alone, trying to find her way back to her siblings. She’d gone back to the place where they’d first met…but he wasn’t there. And it wasn’t fair because it was ever such a long walk. She was tired. And she was lonely. Sweet as those two had been, they just weren’t the leopard she wanted.

Her spotted tail flicked irritably, and with a small huff she tore her gaze away from what would have otherwise been quite the romantic view to sink her teeth into the mutilated carcass she’d been devouring. She was hungry after all, and even though she loved being doted upon and looked after, she was more than capable of taking care of herself. Her tail swished again, her shapely ears laying back as she growled at the dead hare she was shredding. It was smallish for a meal, but that didn’t mean she was a poor huntress. There simply hadn’t been any larger meals wandering about when she’d decided to get something to eat. But this would do. And then in the morning she’d go back to finding her brothers. Stupid Nana had better not have anything to say about where she’d gone…

The fire was in him!

He was starting to feel like his old self again- a capable, threatening beast that no one could beat. No, he was more than just some beast. He was a down-right monster again. Killing was something lacking as of late, but he could forgive himself for that. At least he had managed a few victories in his time. The only death that really mattered, when coming from his paws, was that of his son Jeraha. Anyone else he killed along the way meant nothing to him. Bodies to add to the count.

A number he’d already lost over the years of countless, mostly pointless murder.

As he progressed through the growing darkness, he caught scent of someone near by. For a moment, he could only smell blood and someone else- he couldn’t see anyone as his eyes adjusted to the failing light. Took a bit longer than it used to. Soon enough, though, he was able to see. And no wonder he had almost gone without seeing anything at all! The female cheetah was so damn dark she rivaled the black of night itself. But she could not hide from him, as much as she soon might wish she could. He frowned, noting the small meal she was chomping on. Cheetahs were so pathetic. Hardly worth his time of day. But she had caught him in a good mood- he would engage her for the fun of it, just to keep the festive air going as long as possible.

“You must be a very brave creature,” the animal snarled lowly as he moved steadily closer to the cheetah, “to be out here so casually. There are animals much larger than you, you know. Animals who might seek to harm you if you’re not dreadfully careful. Have you ever given that any thought? Forgive me if I’m interrupting your last meal.”

The emphasis on the word ‘last’ had not been unintentional.

Aiko was quite absorbed in her kill. It was a quiet night, too quiet for her liking, and lonesome, but there wasn't anything she could do about it now. Her mouth and nose filled with the blood of her prey, she didn't catch his scent until he was already upon her. And then there was nothing to do but lick her lips and glance up at him.

Not her sort of company, the prickle in her spine told her that already, and quite clearly too! Ears lowering slightly, she turned her attention back to her food. And she'd hoped she'd have someone to spend some time with, this was almost worse than being alone... Her eyes slid to lock him in a livid glare, this stranger who spoke so threateningly to her. She'd never reacted well to orders or bossing...threats were even worse than that.

"If I listened to what everyone said I'd be so very bored all the time," Aiko informed him. "And no, I shan't forgive you your rude interruption. You can't have any anyway. Now go away." And with that she turned her head back to the hare, gnawing at it lightly but not taking a bite. Her attention was so focused on the big black stranger that she was surprised he couldn't hear her thoughts screaming in the back of her mind. Or maybe that was instinct demanding that she run away. But she'd done nothing wrong! He was the one who ought to leave well enough alone!

Angusho chuckled. Apparently she didn’t really understand the position she was now in. Or perhaps she understood perfectly and was just cocky enough to think that it wasn’t anything to be concerned about. Whatever was going on in that little head of hers, the large lion was going to make sure he set the record straight: that he was not a creature to be taken so lightly. If she had to bleed for that understanding to sink in, then so be it.

But not now. For now, he was more amused by her confident air over anything else.

Moving slowly, he grinned at her, before lunging forward suddenly and swiping the hare from her mouth, letting the fur of the dead beast get caught in his claws so he could pull it towards him. “I’m fairly certain you can’t tell me what I can and can’t have out here. I more or less own these lands, you know. If I decide I want some of this hare, I’ll have it.” Of course, he didn’t want any of her chewed piece of meat, he was just making a point out of it.

Dropping the animal, he brought his large paw down on top of it, hearing a satisfying crunch as some bones cracked under the pressure of his weight. If it had been alive, it probably wouldn’t have been after that. “Now,” he growled, his tone much less jovial, “what to do with an arrogant creature like you.”

Oh, so he was laughing at her now? Aiko's tail thrashed angrily. How utterly horrible of him. This outing from her brothers had been nothing but rotten so far. She was glad she'd Seen where they were headed, but there was still catching up to be done. She didn't like spending her time along and moderately hungry, but, darnit, she did not approve of this sort of company! He wasn't pleasant at all!

At least she had the sense to release her grip on the hare when he swiped it away, the fur along her spine bristling and standing straight up in outrage.

"Why...you...you...!" she sputtered, hissing furiously. Okay, so she'd been having a bad day and didn't need to take it out on some innocent. But he was hardly innocent. And, lacking coherent words, she determined that there was a better way to express how she felt. One that no one had ever been able to claim they'd misinterpreted.

She was on her paws in a flash, one forpaw raised to reach out and give him a good swat on the muzzle. No claws, she wasn't that mean, but maybe a good smack would let him know she wasn't someone to pick on!

Angusho found how flustered she was to be absolutely hilarious- this was why he liked picking on sub species. They were always so righteous- like what he did to them was somehow wrong. Clearly, there was absolutely nothing wrong in the way he treated anything that wasn’t a dark-colored lion. They were all worthless otherwise, so why should it matter how he treated them? Fool, the lot of them.

Fools for thinking they meant something in the world.

He took her attack, though it wasn’t even with claws, as an invitation to start a full-on battle with her, snarling suddenly and pulling back from the strike. Keeping the movement all as one, he drove himself forward, tackling the creature without holding any ounce of his strength back.

Hey- she had started it, hadn’t she? It was only right that he defend himself. Though he had shoved all his power into the body-check, he, like she, hadn’t used any claws or teeth in his counter. Really, he just wanted her aware of the vast difference in their power before he ripped her throat out.

“You’re going to regret raising a paw against me,” he growled at her.

Her ears flattened further at the snarl when he drew back, though the fur along her spine was bristling fitfully. Jerk! Stupid aggravating male! Ruining her already miserable meal, making a bad night even worse! Well, now he knew how she felt, she was hardly some sniveling little weakling. If he thought he could wander over here and trample all over her with no resistance, well he had another think coming! Of all the arrogant, irritating, stu- eeep!

Aiko suddenly found herself slammed to the ground, her flank already feeling as though a bruise were forming. For a second, she was disoriented. What had just happened? Blinking her dark eyes, she looked dazedly up at the black lion towering over her. …what? When had she fallen over and why was he so close?

“You started it!” she spat back, her words and voice both touched with the petulant whine of a young cub. Of course, the hissing fury was anything but cublike, and she was about to prove just how not sorry she was by raising her paws again…once she managed to get them under her that was. Ow. Jerk. Twisting fluidly, she often enjoyed the expression of surprise on a male’s face when he saw just how flexible her lithe form could be, Aiko slithered to her feet, barely even favoring the side that had just gotten slammed. Barely. It was kind of hard to breathe right now… “What’s your problem anyway?” the cheetah demanded, snarling again though her fangs probably weren’t quite as intimidating as his own would be in a similar expression.

Watching her slip away from him wasn’t completely shocking, though he was surprised she had managed to regain herself so quickly from his attack. This wasn’t his first run-in with a cheetah, after all. Normally, of course, he didn’t even bother with females. She just rubbed him the wrong way. She needed to pay for that.

“My problem is you being here! Your kind is a disgrace! Stupid little things you cheetahs are! Nothing but a stain on this planet. I’m going to kill every last one of you I come across: that seems the best way to help get rid of the problem, doesn’t it?” He watched her, growling lowly as he got himself ready for another attack. The problem with cheetahs were that they were very quick. Hard to kill once they knew they were being attacked.

It was much better to sneak up on the little buggers and bite into their necks when they weren’t fully aware of what was going on. Why had he ruined his chance? Ten seconds and things would have been fine. Ten seconds of silence, instead of completely blowing his chance.

Now he was going to have to try a bit harder to get hold of her, and the chances were good that he wouldn’t be able to. Still, at least he had managed a bit of an injury on her. If only it had been something more substantial. Charging again, claws ready, he sprang at her once more, doing his best to try and get hold of her leg before she could get away from him again.

"My...my kind?" Aiko gaped at him. Was...was he serious? What an utter...an utter... there was no word she could think of to describe this vile lion. If she hadn't met lions like that sweet but odd Keena and that handsome Spenta... she'd have thrown his own insult back at him and gladly. But that seemed awfully rude to include lions that she liked in the equation.

"You're the problem!" she yowled, her voice rising towards that ear-bleeding screech her brothers hated so much. Actually, everyone hated it. Aiko didn't just get louder when she was mad, she shrieked until everyone around had a headache and felt half deafened. Sometimes more than half if she was close enough. The next few phrases out from her mouth were distinctly unladylike and slowly rising in pitch and volume as she backed up, bristling and torn between bolting and giving him some more of her thoughts on his behavior...as well as his appearance and his family tree too, to put it politely.

When he sprang at her, Aiko squawked and tried to run. He was much larger than she was after all. She didn't want to wind up as squished as the rabbit...darn jerk, she hadn't gotten to finish eating. She felt something swipe across her leg and twisted. If he messed up her leg enough she'd be in serious trouble. And her without her brothers about! Maybe it was time to head for the hills... except the slithering pulse of pain and blood made her pause once she'd danced out of reach.

Was that going to leave a mark???

"You!" she sputtered, unable to find a suitable adjective for a few moments there. "YOU!" she repeated, her voice rising rapidly to a painful pitch as she shrieked at him furiously. How dare he mark her fur like that! The fact that it hurt seemed to be a bit lost in the indignity of his messing up her looks.
