Another day come and gone, and life in the Weyr continued on as normal. Dinner had passed a couple of hours ago, and the usual Candidate chores and lessons had long since been completed. Despite the long day however, Azuran had found he wasn't quite ready for sleep yet and decided to head to the beach for some fresh air. There were too many people inside right now anyway.

There was something peaceful about the ocean at night that was rather pleasant. The reflection of the stars on the water, the gentle sea breeze... It was very relaxing. "So, Drakell, think you're about ready to start helping me out a bit?" The teen asked with a smile as he sat in the sand, addressing the dark brown firelizard on his shoulder. The little lizard chirruped, climbing forward and begging for some petting. Azuran chuckled lightly before complying. The flit was actually a fairly recent acquisition that he had found while exploring one day, and it had been quite a shock when he had still been able to impress it with some food. It was fairly uncommon for a wild fire lizard to Impress other than at hatching after all. The little dragonic companion was quite a welcome one, however, and Azuran figured that after a while he might be able to train it to help with certain 'tasks' during his down time. The possibilities were quite fun to think about.

Zeren was fed up, he was sick and tired of being crowded by the other candidates and had escaped the dorm to go to the beach. He lay on the cool sands, above the high tide mark. He watched at the night seemed to twinkle, the wherries calling in the night, the insects chirruping, waves slowly crashing, all served to put Zeren in a very sleepy mood.

Azuran continued to pet the flit peacefully, lost in his own thoughts as he watched the waves crash against the shore. After a few minutes though Drakell seemed to come up with his own plans and climbed down off of the youth's shoulder and onto the sand. "Where might you be going?" he asked with a hint of amusement as blue eyes watched the firelizard scuttled off through the sand. Following his trajectory, he was able to spot what-- or rather 'who'-- Drakell's intended target was. Perhaps he has a bit of a mischief in him after all, he thought to himself with a small smirk, standing up and dusting the sand off his pants before following after at a leisurely pace.

The firelizard continued to scurry across the sand until he was practically behind the other Candidate, at which point he let out a loud shriek and fluttered up into the air, stirring up some sand with his wings before popping Between and back onto his master's shoulder.

Zeren jumped up with a yell as something shrieked next to his head. Sending sand flying in all directions he scrambled to get up, away from whatever threat was causing the shriek

"what the shards?!" he growled as he saw a dark brown flit, wink into existance right by another lad, his eyes grew dark and dangerous "that was NOT funny" he said, then stared as a green flit appeared above the brown, it seemed wary of the humans, *maybe its not his* thought Zeren, grabbing a chunk of leftover slices of meat he'd fliched from the kitchens.

Biting a smaller chunk out of it he tossed it towards the green flit, projecting warm, welcoming thoughts, hoping the other candidate and his brown wouldn't scare her off.

It was painfully difficult not to laugh out loud at the other teen's reaction, and it wasn't helping much that Drakell was exuding pride and amusement for his little trick as he sat perched on his shoulder. "Sorry about that; I didn't ask him to do that, I swear." But he couldn't deny it being funny, despite the death glare he was receiving from the other. When the other boy's attention drew to something slightly above him however, Azuran turned to see a pretty green flit fluttering right above. Drakell chirruped pleasantly at the female, although a hand placed lightly atop of his back prevented the firelizard from being able to flutter up and join the female short of going Between. Azuran backed out of the way, giving the two room to better interact. "Good luck," he said quietly, watching to see how this would turn out.

Zeren noted that the other backed away, silently thanking him, though he would NEVER admit that he even thought about gratitude. crouching to make himself smaller he tossed bits of meat towards the flit, it seemed that the smell fo the meat overrode her instinct to be scared, he tossed the pieces to her, making them land closer and closer to him, still projecting welcomes he felt already the feeling from the flit, confidence and a bit of mischeif, she gobbled the chunks down, practically inhaling them until she reached his hand. Zeren moved the hand with the meat further towards himself, the flit following and settling in his arms, snatching at the last bit, belly bulging the flit fell asleep. "if only Dragons were that easy" he commented out loud

He had to laugh at that. "I know, right? Of course, the bond probably wouldn't be as deep then." Once it seemed that the little green firelizard wasn't going to be disappearing anywhere anytime soon, Azuran stepped closer to get a better look. "She's cute," he remarked, taking his hand off of Drakell's back now. "Your name's Zeren, right? I don't believe we've ever been properly introduced. My name's Azuran." Truth be told he hadn't really made much of an effort to speak to any of the non-Weyrbred candidates. He had nothing against them or anything, he just wasn't exactly one for the 'social' scene.

Ashmere for the second night in the new Weyr had pushed off dinner, she had some breads and hard cheeses stuffed into a small pocket on her tunic but she would be saving those for later. Yawning slightly the meek brown haired harper had made hast to finish her chores and now, what was she busy with? Absolutely nothing, the eve was still early and there was much need to relax, yawning again the brunette found herself ambling towards the beach, the sea air was pleasant and cool at night, and the salt air did blissful things to her singing treble.

It didn't take the slender harper long before she had arrived at the beach, the sands still were kissed with a slight warmth from the sun that had set so many hours ago, snugly attached at her hip was her old sweet pitched apprentice made pipes; also resting against her side was a skin of sorts and inside she brought a bit of fresh hot klah. There was nothing more relaxing than searching for inspiration in the cool night air with a hot mug of klah; the journeywoman lightly trailed across the sands then took in a long deep breath, filling her chest full of salty cleansing breath, in her exhale she sung out to the towards the waves in a crisp, clear sweet soprano.

"Atop the mighty Weyr
Ocean wave crashing ever so near
With thread fall, the fall of man
The dragons flame and dance blaze the skies clear
O' hear the bells, and strong wing flaps
Thread fall came and went
Atop the mighty Weyr
"

Zeren snapped out of his daydreaming of dragons, the flit stirred up longing he had managed to keep hidden so far, looking up at the other boy, he nodded slightly, Zeren's personal version of a 'thank you' you'd have to be harper trained to have noticed it.

Speaking of Harpers, it was if his thoughts had drawn her there he heard a voice singing, he rolled his eyes and moved to find somewhere he could gaze at his new green beauty, he didnt want to engage in much small talk, and he knew Harpers usually were masters of that.

He stroked his greeen's eye ridges, "i think i'll call you Viska" he said gently stroking the little creature, he felt her ribs along her hide, the poor thing must have been starving, which was probably why she'd not been as afraind of the humans.

Was that a... harper? Azuran turned to look and, yup, there was a female harper strolling down the beach a small distance away. She looked to be a bit older than them, but still within age of Candidacy. The teen sighed inwardly. Looks like I'll have to save working on my plans for another day... Well, no matter. I left my writing utensils back in the room anyway.

Looking back at Zeren-- or rather, the spot where Zeren had been but was now absent from-- he noticed that the other male had moved away a bit to bond with his new flit. Well then, perhaps I might be able to sit back down and enjoy the ocean after all. Any plans to resume his previous activity were dashed however when Drakell fluttered off of his shoulder over in the direction of the pretty soprano voice. Azuran watched this with a mild look of disbelief that was fortunately hidden under the veil of night. ... I don't believe this; this firelizard is going to force me to be social. Oh what a cruel twist of fate...

Drakell meanwhile was currently circling about the harper, chirruping cheerfully. He liked the sound of the music and wanted to hear more.

At first Ashmere had not noticed the small happy flit, it was only when the creature gave voice to his presences that the pale harper girl looked up to see him chirping and begging for more; had he been there long? Chortling softly the pale girl lightly bowed at the little flit, with the creature being so social and happy it surely had a master somewhere nearby.

She offered the little firelizard a smile then with pleasure pulled her pipes from her hip, she would give him more, but she needed to rest her voice, she as much as she wanted to sing for the creature, she would not make herself hoarse, what sort of journeywoman would she be.

"Alright little bright one I will play for you," she cooed lightly, Ashmere as much as she traveled and lived at the Harper Hall, in all her turns she had actually never seen a flit up close and within touching distance at that, she truth be told was excited if not a little jealous to whomever was the master of this flit.

Lifting her pipes the harper first played a bit of scale work to get the woodwind ready, in thoughtful musings she pondered if song effected the little dragonkin like it did people, with a small fanged grin she began to play on the pipes, the sound that rushed out was long and in deeper tones; smooth and somber, it was a song often played to mourn the dead that fall during thread, closing her gray hued eyes the harper listened to the song as she played it, it was almost perfect how the sound of the ocean accompanied the unspoken verses.

Drakell slowed his circling down as the song song began to play. It was pretty still, but... very different from before. Green eyes turning a soft grey, the brown flit went Between and reappeared on Azuran's shoulder again, continuing to listen to the melody from his human perch.

By this point Azuran didn't exactly have much choice in approaching the girl, given that Drakell had pretty much given away his presence already. So, for the sake of being polite, the teen casually made his way over to the harper, staying quiet so as not to interrupt her until the song was over. "Such a sad melody. Did someone pass that I didn't know about?" he asked with a faint smile. "My name is Azuran by the way. And you are...?"

Ashmere pulled away from her pipes and grinned at the lad, she then in polite manner bowed deeply at the waist for the young man. Standing up right she toyed with her woodwinds idly then just shook her head causing her brown hair to fall into her pale face.

"It is nice to meet you Azuran, my name is Ashmere, Journeywoman Harper. And no one that I know of has passed, but you do have a very keen ear, that song is about those that have already passed, and the ones that too one day will pass. It is a thread song, very sad indeed. I was just testing to see if that brown beauty of yours reacted to atmospheric music the same way people do. I could play something more upbeat if that is what you will young sir." Mirthfully stated the thin framed girl as she spoke in even pitch, she bowed again towards the little flit on the boy's shoulder.

"If that is what both young sirs wish." She corrected with a bright fanged smile, she was in a good mood and she had not entertained anyone in ages, and from the looks of it Azuran was a candidate that was enough to merit respect from the harper, one day too they would sing songs about this dragonrider, well if he impressed, there would be songs without a doubt.

Zeren sighed, the green flit was pretty special. He winced as he remembered the last animal he'd loved, a single small tear dripped unnoticed by him, the Flit on the other hand, woke and chirped at him, looking him square in the eye she squawked to get the attention of anyone in the area. Her human was distressed, she wanted SOMEONE to notcie.

Zeren tried to calm Viska, who seemed intent on creating a stinking fuss, he was sure that if she hadnt been so full of meat, she'd have gone between He wasnt entirely sure what she was trying to acheive, but he hoped he wouldn't lose her now, she seemed distressed.

Wow, she was a chatty one. Perhaps he might have been better off holed up in his room after all. "Ah, please, there's no need to be so formal with us," Azuran remarked, feeling awkward with all of the bows. He certainly didn't see himself as being in any position worthy of such treatment just yet. Who knew if he would ever even be able to Impress a dragon after all. For all they knew he might just end up being a Weyr busybody all his life. "And I wouldn't want to stem your creativity. Feel free to play or sing whatever pleases you."

Drakell on the other hand was quite fond of all of the positive attention. His little ego stroked pleasantly, the brown let out a small croon of assent. He liked this girl. Speaking of girls... his head whirled around at Viska's cries. The green was in trouble! Eyes flashing yellow, the brown popped Between and reappeared next to the small green, chattering at her questioningly as he tried to figure out what was wrong.

Azuran too looked back at the other teen and his flit at the squawk, although it seemed his own firelizard was faster to react. "Everything alright over there?" he asked, not making any move to approach just yet. What did the green sound so upset about?
