I think Fresnel is a major supporter of the shovel. He probably is already ordering one.

I don't like the fact that the handle is nothing but a handle and a ruler. It should also function as a storage compartment for a firestarting and fishing kit, as well as be made of metal with a tough rubber grip.

There's probably a metal shank in there. Neither fire starting kits nor fishing kits take up much space. Hollowing out the back 3 inches wouldn't weaken the handle to any noticeable degree.
