Her hand hung hesitantly before the door. It felt so odd being back here again after so much time had passed. Though the house on the outskirts of Durem looked fairly the same, everything had suddenly felt very different. For one, the last time she'd come here, Ebony hadn't left things on the best of notes and was only now remembering her anxiety at seeing Isikoro should he be home. She'd never admit it out loud, but the boy had a knack for making her feel like their roles were reversed and she was the child, not him.

The second most significant difference from now and then was that the Brit was now a full fledged guardian. Silver eyes slide over to her side and took in her Cordelia thoughtfully. She'd been very quiet the entire drive here and it made Ebony uneasy. Ever since she'd learned to speak English, the girl rarely allowed a chance to talk with others escape her. Only now when she was upset somehow did she go back to her silent ways. So what was bothering her today?

"Cordelia? Are you all right?" Aphismet might have been expecting them, but if her charge wasn't feeling well...well then the chef would just have to understand. Gently, the woman pushed the snake's dark sweeping bangs out of her eyes so she could see her face properly.

Quickly the girl swatted her hand away and matted her bangs back in place. "I'm fine." she whispered, not fine at all as she refused to look up, staring at the bottom of the door instead. In her hands, Cordelia gripped a tiny white gift bag. Would he like it? Would he like her?

With a sigh and shrug, Ebony rapped her knuckles loudly upon the door. A house this big, loud was the only choice else no one would hear, yet the sound made Delia jump slight. Ebony hoped she'd be all right and that Rivener wouldn't try to pick another fight with her today. They all needed to try and get past this virus ugliness finally.

Aphismet knew that keeping this visit secret from Rivener was probably not a good idea, but what option did he have? If Aphi had even so much as mentioned Ebony or Cordelia dropping by, Rivener would surely have disappeared off somewhere. The chef busied himself preparing snacks and drinks, almost compulsively baking something so that he kept busy. Rivener knew his Guardian's moods well, though, and had asked what was the matter... Aphi's too-quick reply of "Nothing!" had drawn a suspicious glare from the Sigel, but Riv had said nothing else on the matter, retreating to the living room to watch TV.

When that knock finally came, Aphismet startled and half-dropped the platter of sandwiches he'd made, causing a clatter. "I-I'll get it!" he half-screeched, noticing Rivener beginning to lift from the couch... With a nervous frown Aphi rushed into the living room and to the door, glancing at Riv only once, silently pleading for the Scorpion to behave.

Rivener wondered what the hell Aphismet's problem was today. Was he having a damned affair or something? Why would he be so nervous over guests, unless he was trying to hide something? The Sigel wouldn't normally care what his keeper was up to, but the idea of Aphi cheating on Alex just made Riv's hackles raise angrily. That better not be the case!

The white-haired chef opened the door and just like that the idea of cheating went right out the window. Rivener would have to be stupid not to know why Aphismet had been so nervous. Ebony Shade. And that damned Snake. Riv peered from over the edge of the sofa, red eyes narrowing in jealousy, anger, and more than a little shame: Riv's wings were still strapped to his back, and he was not at his strongest. Now was NOT the time for a rematch!

"Welcome, welcome! It's been a while, Ebs, hasn't it? I kept training on my own, you'll be glad to know... And Cordelia, you look very pretty today! Come on in, please!" Aphi smiled a little uneasily, recalling the only times he'd met Delia: first as a basilisk, nearly dying in the process, and then as a mindless killing machine of a Raevan. He didn't know what to expect of the girl now that she was sane.

Her eyes widened significantly when Aphi was suddenly right there in front of her brandishing pleasantries and all in all hurriedly ushering them inside. What was up? Why was the man so high strung today? And then she saw. Right there sitting on the couch practically giving her the death glare was Rivener. Now she knew the scorpion well enough now to know he was easy to anger, but honestly, she hadn't even said a word yet to entice such a look. But then she noticed his normally impressive wings were all bandaged up. The Brit blinked slow. Today was going to be a long day.

"Good morning Aphismet...Rivener. That is great to hear, and thank you for having us. It has been quite a long time indeed. So much so that..." With a sheepish, yet smug sort of smile, Ebony lifted her hands to showcase the bags she carried, wrapped presents just beyond the thin paper. "We missed exchanging gifts during the holidays."

Meanwhile Cordelia was slowly floating after her guardian, using her more of as a shield than anything. She'd never felt so unsure and self-conscious in her life. Ebby's white haired friend was flailing around like a fish out of water and eying her like she'd burst into flames at any moment. And though he'd complimented her, it did little to subdue her nerves as she saw the Sigel glaring at them from the other room.

Delia leaned into her guardian's back and hid her face between the woman's shoulder blades. Maybe if she stayed quiet and pretended like she wasn't there, they'd forget about her. Her plans were foiled by Ebby of course. "Cordelia, Aphismet has addressed you. Don't be rude." The violet haired woman shifted so as to get behind the dark Frei and push her slightly forward.

Damn her for not having feet in which to stop her forward momentum! And then her guardian had to go and lecture her on her bad behavior in front of these practical strangers. Sharp wings drooping in shame, the basilisk answered quietly in that smokey voice of hers, yet didn't quite look the man directly in the face. "S-sorry. Thank you for having me..." She didn't really know what else to say, so she just swayed from side to side quietly.

Aphismet was rather startled. Had they really not seen each other over the holidays? It had been THAT long? He blinked at the gifts, blushing a deep shade of red as a sheepish smile drew his lips up. "Ah... G-gifts, right." He had not gotten anything at all for Ebony! He hadn't thought they were at the gift-giving stage of their friendship, and while it DID make his heart warm up with happiness that she thought of him that highly, he also felt lower than dirt for not picking up on that before now. "I, uh... Didn't get anything. But I will! I promise I will. H-here, put these down and we'll deal with these later."

With gentle, grateful fingers Aphi took the packages and moved them to the nearby dresser, placing them on top.

Ebony chided her Raevan at that time, prodding Cordelia forward and acting so-... so gently and affectionately with the Snake that Aphismet blinked in confusion. The last he'd seen, Delia had been attacking Ebony indiscriminately! It was such a giant relief to see the smokey-voiced girl act bashful and nice that the chef actually let out a breathy laugh, bringing a hand up to his throat. He was so GLAD. He wouldn't have to worry about how Ebs was getting along anymore.

"You're very welcome, Cordelia. ...Why are you so shy?" He tilted his head, peering at her encouragingly even though he already had a pretty damned good idea why she was being shy. The reason was currently glaring at them all from over the sofa's back, not yet offering a single sound. Aphi sighed softly, wondering if he'd have to force Riv to say hello.

Rivener bristled at Ebony's greeting, but he remained where he was. He kept his mouth shut to boot, biting down on the hoarse growl that wanted to break free. He didn't want these people in his house. He didn't care that Zul liked Delia-... Hell, that might actually be making it WORSE. A hot flare of possessive jealousy spiked through Riv's vision, brushing everything in a slight sheen of red for a split second.

They'd brought gifts. Riv remembered the telescope he loved so much... He'd forgiven Ebony for half getting Aphi killed that one time, because of that stupid telescope. But he wasn't going to be that shallow this time, he wasn't going to let her gifts, whatever they were, sway him! She'd put Aphi in danger again by calling him over when That Snake was murderously crazy! AND, Riv just plain hated Delia! Since Ebony was her guardian, the purple-haired woman instantly dropped a few notches.

Cordelia looked uncomfortable as she was pushed forward to greet Aphi, and Riv smirked. Good. He hoped she felt so uncomfortable she LEFT. And then never came back. And maybe never spoke to Zul again either, for good measure. Cursing his wings for being broken, Riv imagined how he might have helped those matters along if he'd been healthy: he'd have floated over, wings snapped wide, shoulders set, looking as terrifyingly aggressive as he could, and he'd yelled at her to get out. She'd have gasped and escaped then, never to return, hopefully, taking stupid Ebony with her. ...But as it was, Riv couldn't do any of that. He harrumphed and turned back around to the TV, intent on ignoring the lot of them until they got out.

"Don't be absurd." the woman snorted, nose lifted in a huff as she was appalled at his notion. "These are gifts. Christmas gifts. I didn't get them for want of anything in return Aphismet. More as...thank you." Ebony allowed that last part to past her lips soft and low, hoping it wouldn't prompt any questions or that rather he would just know its meaning and leave well enough alone.

She clenched the bags slight, but didn't want to get in to tug-o-war with the man, so allowed him the wrapped items. Looking between them all, Delia and Riv especially, "Are you sure you don't want to deal with them now?" Ebony's grey eyes shifted silently, yet deliberately between their charges. Would he understand?

The basilisk felt the warmth pool into her cheeks, a faint blush developing when Aphi continued his prodding and staring. As only a child could, Cordelia lifted the tiny gift bag in front of her face to hide its unusual condition. "I'm not...shy...I just...remember things..." Bad things, things that never should have happened, but did nonetheless. How could she face them without some shred of remorse in her actions?

Much like her guardian, when tears started, Delia didn't want anyone to see and thus suddenly thrust the bag at the Sigel's man before floating hurriedly right back out the front door. "I'm sorry!"

"Cordelia!" the Brit yelled after her disappearing Frei. With a huge sigh, Ebony laced slender digits through her violet hair. "I'm sorry about that, she's..." The woman bit her lip. How to explain? "She remembers things from when she was sick. Hazy as the memories are, it upsets her to know she hurt people. Hurt you." She didn't specify which you or if it was intended for both man and Raevan, but it was a safe bet that Ebony had meant for most of it to be intended for the scorpion.

Aphismet smiled warmly at Ebony, getting the message clearly. He would still get her something, he vowed silently: not as a forced return gesture, but because he truly wanted to. Still, arguing with the brit would get him nowhere, so the chef kept this new vow secret. Once the gift was bought it would be too late for her to refuse, anyway.

More to the point, the white-haired man nearly slapped himself in the face when he realized Ebony's meaning as she asked if he wouldn't prefer dealing with the gifts now. One glance at the Raevans and he got it. Damn, he could be so dense! "Err..."

Before he could utter anything more on the matter, Cordelia thrust her own gift at him, shoving the little wrapped present into his hands and then dashing towards the outside, clearly upset. Aphi blinked at the Basilisk's back, baffled... "Oh, ah... Hm, that was a strange and horrific time for many of us. She shouldn't feel so upset about it, I'm sure she wasn't in her right mind at the time. She's so much sweeter than I'd expected," the chef added with a shy grin to Ebs, rather glad for his friend's luck. Things had looked pretty dire at first.

"But uh, y-yes, we should deal with the gifts now. Rivener, I think some of these are for you!" Hoping to lure the Sigel over with promises of new things, Aphi waved the small package in his hands, and pointed at the things he'd put aside earlier. "You should come get them, and say thank you."

Rivener barely glanced over a shoulder when the Frei dashed towards the door, ruby gaze cold. Hmph, she was leaving? Well, good. Aphismet's voice drifted in next, prompting Rivener to come accept his gifts... Again the Scorpion bristled, but curiosity got the better of him. He wanted to at least know what the gifts were. ...Didn't mean he'd have to forgive anyone.

With an overly-dramatic sigh Riv floated up from the couch, languidly making his way around to the entrance hall, arms crossed. He was highly self-conscious of his wrapped wings, knowing he struck a much less impressive figure, mangled as he was. He made sure to make up for it by acting as tough as he could, turning his chin up and all but glaring at the two humans. "Hn."

"...Riv, did you hear what Ebony said about Cordelia? How she's upset to know that she might have hurt you when she was infe-"

"Where's the gifts?" Riv interrupted snappily, wholly uninterested in hearing whatever sob story they were trying to feed him.

"We were all innocent once..." she muttered more to herself than them as she shut the door. Though she was sure it looked like bad guardianship on her part, Ebony knew her charge and that running after her right now wouldn't do any good. She'd go and sulk far away from an audience, get the tears out of her system and return with a silent pout, but wholly better for the most part. Sometimes Ebony truly wondered if that soul bottle had taken a piece of her soul and bestowed it upon her dark ward, they seemed too alike in their ways.

She narrowed her eyes slight at Rivener and his rude behavior. Was he still thinking her to be the Bandit? Honestly she'd hoped he'd all but forgotten that chance encounter they had not so long ago. Though a part of her wondered if perhaps some of what she'd said even penetrated that thick skull of his. Judging from the shape of his wings...Ebs would guess not.

Ignoring his lack of concern for her troubled Frei and averting her curious gaze from his wings, the Brit dug deep into one of the bags she'd been carrying. Pulling out a rather large crimson colored box, "I wasn't sure what you'd like, but I saw it and thought of you. I hope it fits. You've grown a lot since I last saw you." Couldn't hurt to try and stroke his ego right? "Oh Aphismet, that bag is his too. Cordelia picked it out special for him." 'Not that I think he really deserves it right now...' she thought silently to herself.

While Ebony played Santa inside, Cordelia played guilty outside. She hadn't gone far since this place was utterly unfamiliar to her and the basilisk would be damned if she got lost here. Thus she circled the home once before floating back to 'sit' on the porch. Quietly she stared out into the empty vastness of the land surrounding the Delaran homestead, a finger tracing nothing on the ground near her smokey ribbon. If only she could figure out how to turn into her essence again. Then she could disappear for awhile and not think of the horrible things she'd done.

Aphismet knew better than to suggest they go after Delia. Ebony looked like she knew what she was doing, letting the girl go on her own. Perhaps Delia was one of those people who needed to compose herself alone for a little while... Poor thing, so upset. Aphismet's heartstrings tugged lightly.

Conversely, Aphismet's heartstrings hardened to steel at the way his own Raevan was acting. The disapproving frown Aphismet shot Rivener was thoroughly ignored, as always when it didn't suit Riv's mood. The chef sighed and rolled his eyes, angling an apologetic glance at Ebs. At least the woman was used to this kind of thing, as she was no stranger to this household...

Riv's arms only uncrossed to accept the large red box. It was so big. What the hell could it possibly be, that Ebony wondered if it would fit? He didn't want to look eager, but his eyes betrayed him regardless of his wishes: the rubies glittered with excited curiosity and he turned to place the box on the nearest piece of furniture big enough to accommodate it: the back of the couch he'd been sitting on. He opened the gift post-haste and promptly gasped in shock, eyes wide and jaw dropping.

With reverent fingers he placed the box lid down and reached for the wonderful leather, lifting it out of the box and unfolding it, admiring. "Wow..." It was a coat! Like all the ones Rivener preferred, it was dark leather, although this one was speckled with decorative straps and buckles. It looked incredibly badass, and Rivener's lips spread into a pleased grin, forgetting that he was supposed to be angry still.

Aphismet snickered. THAT was a sure way to get the materialistic Sigel to like you again: give him something he really wanted. Dark chocolate eyes flicked over to Ebs to share a covert, silent message: Good job! She's apparently picked something pretty damned perfect, to earn such a "wow" from Rivener.

"Don't forget this gift too, Riv." Aphi moved forward to place the smaller gift in his ward's hand, peeking at the coat: wow, it really WAS rather nice.

Rivener distractedly took the smaller package and opened it, tearing his eyes away from the coat only when the ring was revealed fully. He blinked. "A ring?" he asked quietly. Zul had gotten him a ring too... Rivener did like rings. Except, hmn, this one must be from-...

Red eyes peered over a shoulder, frowning at Ebony briefly. Smart. She'd tricked him into lowering his guard, and now he'd accepted Cordelia's gift without even realizing. Huffing, Riv pouted and turned back around, unable to meet those gray eyes as he spoke. "...Thanks for the gift. The coat is, uh. It's really cool. And the ring is cool too." Although this last, he figured he should be telling Delia... As much as he didn't want to. "...Can I go outside to see her? So I can you know, thank her or something."

Aphi's brows raised lightly, happy to see his Sigel at least making an effort to be civil now.
PostPosted: Thu May 13, 2010 8:23 pm

She watched and waited patiently as Rivener's icy mood slowly thawed. When it'd seemed she'd finally won, Ebs shared a victorious smile with Aphismet before quickly sliding back into her normal uninterested expression. The scorpion wasn't the only actor there after all, and although the Brit was elated inside, she just couldn't give the Sigel the benefit of that knowledge right now. Perhaps if he'd simply been polite earlier and at least said hello despite his justified reasons, Ebony might have felt more open towards him. Stubborn was quite abundant in these parts.

Stepping over to the opened box, Ebony gingerly dusted a few specks off the lust after jacket before carefully packing it back up for the Raevan. Wouldn't want something to happen to it just after he got it, would she? "You can do whatever you please Rivener. I'm merely a guest in your home." This time she did smile at him, but only slightly. It was sort of creepy, like a warning in disguise. "But please, do be mindful that she is still very young and doesn't always know any better than you. I hope...you can at least understand that part if nothing else."

"Meanwhile, I'll make sure Aphismet here isn't tempted at trying on your jacket before you get the chance." She gave a smug smile before jabbing Aphi playfully in the ribs. "Don't think I didn't see those bright browns giving it a yearning glance."

If there was one thing Cordelia was good at, it was finding a distraction from her miseries. Carefully the snake slid her fingers down the length of her charcoal ribbon until she felt it give and poof to smoke at the very end. How odd was it that it was the only part of her that did that? And why was that exactly? Without thought it constantly remained in a state of half vapor, half solid. Could she mimic that like she had back at Christmas with Zul? Did she want to? She remembered how not too soon after it had occurred did she feel faint and cold. The memory made her half formed spine shiver in remembrance. Delia hated being too cold.

With a sigh she fell backwards, her head peering out into the drive where their car was parked, the view now flipped upside down though from her vantage point. Those soulful greys caught sight of movement in the grass and a small smile graced her dark lips then. A snake was slithering quickly through on its way somewhere.

"Hello friend! Where are you off to in such a hurry?" she hissed excitedly, it wasn't everyday she got to speak her native tongue. Although she might not get the chance today either as the snake utterly ignored her and went about its business without reply.

With an outraged huff, the basilisk crossed her arms over her chest and stuck her tongue out at the slowly departing serpent. "Stupid belly slider..." Cordelia muttered in English.

Rivener simply sneered lightly at Ebony's warning that Cordelia was young and didn't know things. Whatever. Riv just wanted to give her a thanks because it was the polite thing to do, and that's all. Screw her feelings and screw what Riv should maybe understand about the situation that had unfolded between them all. With a final sound much like a cat's hiss, Riv just headed towards the door. The threat of Aphismet trying that jacket wasn't very note-worthy: the chef wouldn't do anything like that and Rivener trusted his new coat to remain un-touched.

With one quiet turn, the Scorpion opened the front door and slipped out, finding the smokey Frei not far, sitting on the side of the porch... The Sigel's ears only just caught the last part about belly sliders being stupid, and a dark eyebrow quirked up in rather annoyed curiosity. Who was THAT supposed to be referring to? Better not be Riv himself! The man felt himself bristle slightly, his wings giving a tug at their bindings and drawing a grimace from the frowning face.

"I opened your gift," Riv declared without any kind of opening statement. "You got me a ring. ...It's a nice ring. Thanks." He sounded grating and reluctant at best, his own arms crossed over his chest much the way Delia's were. He frowned still, but at least had the decency not to direct that glare AT her: he looked out over the yard instead, where it would hopefully not be as offending. Not that he cared if she was offended. He just wanted to be polite. The bigger man.

Aphismet chuckled at Ebony, easily seeing how much happier the woman was now that Rivener seemed to be making some kind of effort. As the Sigel left, the two humans remaining inside, Aphi turned to his own present and unwrapped it. He thought Ebony had meant for him to open it now as well, after all.

"Ohh!" The chef's eyes opened wide, glittering. "Oh, I'd been looking for this one! Wow, thank you, Ebony! This is a GREAT present!" He grinned unabashedly, closing the distance between him and the Brit, latching one arm around the slender shoulders and pulling Ebs into a hug, chuckling. "I really love it! I'll make something from it for you one day. That'll be my gift! There's some really delicious stews in here in particular, you know? Although their stock recipe is really what-... er... Ah, sorry." He chuckled again, letting go and hunching a shoulder up sheepishly. "Got a bit carried away. I guess that means your present really was appreciated?"

More so than the rambling, Aphi knew that the hugging might have been more likely to make Ebs uncomfortable.
PostPosted: Sun May 16, 2010 6:38 pm

"I opened your gift,"

The sudden voice made the girl jump and she awkwardly fell down the steps with a pathetic hiss. Endless grey eyes peered up at the nonchalant Sigel and blinked slow. During her illness, Cordelia was unable to feel any kind of inferiority towards anyone, but looking up at the much older, bigger and thus stronger Raevan, the snake was feeling much much smaller than she normally did. Or maybe it was just because he seemed so angry still and she knew it was because of her.

Wings drooping as low as they could possibly go, Delia remained silent for a long time just staring up at him. She knew she needed to respond soon, yet she'd all but lost her lips in the few moments Rivener had shown up. Frowning in irritation at herself, the basilisk forced her mouth to speak. Her voice was even wispier sounding than it normally was when she finally spoke.

"You're...welcome." There was so much more she wanted to say to the scorpion, but once again she suffered from lip-lock. It was going to be a long day indeed if she didn't speak. Idly, Cordelia's eyes roamed towards the front door and wondered when Ebby would be wanting to leave. Soon she hoped.

The violet Brit watched that arrogant back turn and leave without so much as an 'okay.' She scoffed just a tad at that snub. The least he could have done was lie to her. Yet heaven help him if he even thought to lay a malicious hand on her Cordelia. Ebony knew full well that the smokey femme could pretty much take care of herself if need be, but the woman's maternal instincts did not want that need to be, plain and simple.

It was good that Aphi was opening his present now otherwise she might be tempted to sneak outside to eavesdrop on the Raevans. She gave a laugh at his enthusiastic outburst of joy, yet as the chef expected, Ebony tensed up just a bit when he pulled her in for an awkward hug. You'd think by now with how touchy feely Cordelia was, that Ebony would have gotten use to hugs, but this was Aphismet. It made her uncomfortable on so many levels, because he was her student, because he was with Alex, and just because he most definitely was not the scaly Frei.

Blushing slight and giving a cough to cover it up, the woman just pretended like nothing had happened. She gave her feet a bit of a rocking and stuck her hands in her front pockets. "I guess so. Glad you like it, though I think Alex's gift was much more impressive. How is she by the way? Are her and Zul working today?" Quickly, Ebony busied herself with swiveling her head around, thinking she might suddenly catch a glimpse of the dark haired woman or her demonic charge.

Rivener wondered what was the matter. Not a word was said for the longest time... hell, not a single sound past that initial hiss Delia gave as she tumbled down the steps. Had she been knocked out? The Scorpion considered glancing down but just as he was about to, that little voice drifted up to him, sounding so-... subdued. Rivener felt a rather strong surge of smug contentment at how meek and unsure that voice sounded. So much so that he allowed his eyes to continue their downward journey, ending on the Frei's half-prone form.

She was below him, which was appropriate. It would make Rivener forget about his broken wings for a moment, make him forget that he wasn't as impressive as he should be. From that angle she wouldn't see the bandages. "Hmph," he sniffed, turning his nose up at her after that small "you're welcome" of hers. "Why'd you even get me a gift anyway? It's not like we even ******** know one another in the first place, really."

They'd never officially met, as whatever happened during the infection had probably blanked the girl's mind completely... Hell, she'd only JUST been born at the time, hadn't she? So whatever Riv knew of her, must be skewed... And despite knowing this, the Sigel couldn't bring himself to like her. As a creature, before her soul was captured, she'd nearly killed Aphi. As a Frei, she was much too close to Zul. That last was the main culprit, apart for Rivener's own wounded pride at being unable to beat her when she'd attacked him. The red eyes flashed with remembered hate and he bared his teeth just lightly, trying to keep his temper in check. Let her answer the damned question, see if she's trying to suck up. Maybe I can get her to promise never to talk to Zul again... Although Zul would be sad, then. God damn it.

Aphismet grinned still, very clearly pleased with the gift. "It might not be as impressive, but it's still very much appreciated. How do you know what Alex got me, anyway?" Aphi tilted his head, wondering if the two women were closer friends than he'd assumed.

At the question of where Alex was, however, Aphismet sighed sadly and looked aside, forcing a smile onto his lips though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Alex... She's not here. Won't be for a little while, I think... something happened at the lab, and Alex is keeping an eye on Lucia somewhere. They might be at Brad's. I think Alex won't be coming back until Yuurei returns for her Frei. There's been some, er... problems." The white-haired man didn't particularly like to dwell on this, not enjoying the loneliness it brought to the forefront of his mind. He missed Alex terribly, though he did get to see her often enough... But she'd only just moved in. It was so unfair they had to return to THIS.

"But what about you?" Aphi asked, drawing Ebony away from the front lobby with a casual wave of his hand. He walked over to a sofa so they could at least sit, close enough to the front door to be able to rush out if something happened between the Raevans. "How have you been holding up? Cordelia seems like such a sweetheart, are you having a good time with her? Raising a Raevan can be hard at times, hm?"
PostPosted: Sun May 16, 2010 8:19 pm

She was quiet again for a while, trying to pick the right words to describe why she'd gotten him something. Looking down and away from that angry crimson gaze, the smoke Raevan began to doodle circles with her finger along the step in front of her. "Zul says you're the best and he's my friend, so I want to be friends with his friends too. And I...I wanted to say sorry for what I did before when I first saw you. Well...in my head it wasn't really you at the time...sort of, but I guess that doesn't really matter because I still did a bad thing..."

That was probably the most Cordelia had ever said in one breath, ever. But it wasn't like she'd planned on it coming out like that exactly. She just had a lot to say and didn't want to risk locking up again before she got to say it. Finally looking back up to him, totally oblivious to his half sneering at her, "If you don't...want to, I'll understand..."

"Because I watched her buy it for you." Ebony grinned with satisfaction at providing him with this little grain of truth. Was it sad that she wanted to make him squirm a bit at imagining what kind of things the two women had talked about in reference to him? Ebony only thought it playful, but perhaps it could be thought of as mean.

Those thoughts were put aside once the cat Raevan was brought up. Grey eyes wide and absolutely surprised, "Lucia?! S-she's okay then? Yuurei too? I've been calling and calling every since she attacked Cordelia. No one ever answered and no one at the Lab seemed to know what was up..." Ebony quickly trailed off and allowed her mind to wrap around what Aphi had said. With a relieved sigh, "Sorry, I'm just glad to hear something finally. Whatever it is, I'm sure Alex is more than capable of dealing with it. And I hope the best for both Lucia and Yuurei."

"Um..well..." Her mind was still on the whole Lucia thing really and she did want to talk about it more, but it seemed her friend was more keen on keeping the conversation on other things. Ebony wondered why that was exactly, but decided to just go with the flow. "I've been well. Busy, mostly. Cordelia's a full time job ever since winter ended. Apparently snakes and other reptiles usually hibernate in the winter, so that's why she was so out of it for the most part after being cured. But now she's learning and thriving so quickly that it's hard to keep up some times." The Brit laughed remembering all the cute little childish things the snake was prone to doing or saying. "She's too adorable to be what she was that's for sure. I guess snakes are usually very affectionate when they're not feeling threatened." Ebony's eyes shifted to the door just from the thought that spilled out of her mouth then. Well they'd know for certain if something was wrong that's for sure with being so close still. There had been a brief hiss, but nothing else followed so she assumed things were going well? At least she hoped they were.

Rivener kept his arms crossed, although his hateful frown melted into a curious quirk of an eyebrow, lips pressed into a thin line. What the hell was she going on about? She'd been out with Zul getting that present? The knowledge that Delia had been shopping with Zul, helping him pick out the ring Riv had received from his beloved Demon, made the Scorpion's wings strain to snap open in anger, drawing a pained groan. Riv rolled his shoulders, trying to relax. At least it seemed Zul had been saying Rivener is the best... This little sentence went a good long way in making the Sigel mellow. It was the only reason he kept listening as Delia went on to try and explain in pieces.

Eventually she dared look back up at him, and Rivener's expression once again settled on a frown. It wasn't as scathingly hateful anymore, but the Sigel couldn't quite force himself NOT to frown at her yet. "If I don't want to what? Be your friend?... I'm not sure yet. I REALLY don't like you, Cordelia," he spat the name out like it tasted bad, "so it's going to take a while for me to want to be your friend. And you, you just want to be my friend because of Zul, don't you? ...How much do you like Zul, anyway?" Rivener leaned down slightly to level the girl a deathly serious stare, gnashing his teeth. She'd better not say that she loved him or wanted to be his or anything like that... though at her age, would she even know about such things? "He's mine, got it? He and I are together! I don't want you coming between us!"

Aphismet didn't squirm at learning that Ebony had watched Alex buy the gift. He was more surprised and pleased that Alex and Ebs were such good friends! "I could give you Alex's phone number, if you wanted to call her. She could probably tell you more about the thing with Lucia..."

But Ebony, thankfully, moved on from the topic quickly. Aphi's smile was much more honest after that, settling back onto his face effortlessly. He chuckled, raising his eyebrows. "She gets lethargic in winter? How lucky for you, a sort of Vacation from all the growing-up-drama they can go through. I wish Rivener had a hibernation period, hahah!" Chocolate-brown eyes followed the gray gaze, peering out the window. He could barely spot Rivener's shoulder through the glass, but it didn't seem to be moving in any harsh way. Things must be okay. "She's turned out so much better than I'd thought. From such a scary soul, a cute little thing like Cordelia! It's hard to believe. ...If you're nervous, we could ask them to come back inside, you know." It was obvious Ebony wasn't all that keen on leaving Delia alone with Rivener too long, and honestly Aphismet could understand. His ward could be such a-... what was the proper word? Bully? a*****e? ...They all seemed to fit to some degree. The chef sighed, wondering if he hadn't raised him right.
