((Yes, I realize it will be a while before any of the outer parallels crop up - but since the cavalier concept came up to begin with, I've kind of been curious if Mitch could fit into it. Let's see how this pans out!))

SECTION ONE

Name: Mitchell Dudek

Nicknames: Mitch, Dude

Gender: Male

Age: 18

School: Meadowview

Fav. Food: If anyone asks, he'll say 'pizza' like any normal teen. Really, his favorite food is avocados. The texture, the flavor, everything about them just drive him crazy and leave him craving more. But come on. Seriously. Try telling that to a gaggle of teenage boys and maintain any kind of dignity.

Hated Food: Gingerbread ice cream. Ugh. He'd love to hunt down whoever came up with that bright idea and show them how much he 'appreciates' it.

Hobbies: Sports - He's most in his element playing baseball or hockey (even if he's not that good), but he's willing to give any sport a shot once. Mitch just loves running around and letting his competitive streak run with him. (If only he didn't get put on the bench so much.) In all honesty, his strongest suit is probably swimming... which, naturally, is the one thing he doesn't bother competing in. It's just something he does for the fun of it.

Hiking - Yeah. Seriously. The guy's big into taking long walks by himself, whether it's through the city or through nature. But he kind of prefers the latter if he's got a choice. There's just something about watching the scenery go by that calms him down, no matter how frustrated he is. Plus it's a great way to get out of whatever else he's supposed to be doing, especially if he just happens to forget his cellphone. Whoops.

Games - More than just arcade games, even if that's a big part of it. Mitch's real passion lies in playing cards though, and he's never been known to turn down a game of Blackjack for anything. Even moreso if somebody decides to make the game a little more 'interesting'. Darts are another one he likes to try his hand at now and then, but he's not so good at those.

Hairy Situation? - Not something you'd guess to look at the mop atop his head. Mitch hardly puts any effort at all into his own hair; but his father's a hairdresser, and he's picked up more than a few tricks over the years. Like his love for avocados though, it's not something he really broadcasts for all the world to know.

Virtues: Righteous - Here is a man with a very strong sense of right and wrong. And when Mitch feels passionately about something, he backs it with everything he is. Loud, clear, and vocal. For instance, laying a hand on a woman? Never, no matter what she's done to him. Mocking some kid for wearing a stupid sweater his grandma made him? He'll be the first one to tell them to shut up (even if the sweater really is stupid). A fight between two people that's outmatched, or worse, three against one, he'll jump in. Then if it turns out the guy he helped was the wrong one all along, he'll turn around and start in on them. Some guy stealing another guy's girl, someone stealing from another, cheating on a test, or someone cheating someone else. If he thinks somebody has been wronged, he'll be the first to come out and say it. Nothing will sway him, no amount of bribing, threats, or even bodily harm that comes his way. He won't do it, and he won't stand for it.

On one hand, it can be as much a flaw as a virtue; sometimes people just don't want to hear it. Other times people might use it to their advantage. On the other hand, for better or worse, everyone will always know where he stands.

Loyal - It's not always easy being this guy's friend, rest assured. But earn his trust and he will stand by you through everything and anything. Whether he thinks you're in the right or not, Mitch will always be in your corner to defend you and your honor - but he'll probably be the first one to lecture you on just how wrong you were the second you're out of the line of fire.

Especially for his younger friends, he almost acts like an older brother. Always the first one to jump to the defense for their sakes, whether or not they might need it. Someone looking at them funny? Better watch out man. Better watch out.

Polite - Difficult as he can be sometimes, at least he's always well-mannered about it. He won't do a single damn thing you ask him to, but he will be exceedingly courteous about it. The boy never forgets his 'please's, his 'thank you's, a 'bless you' for when someone sneezes... even when he's completely lost his temper. If nothing else, etiquette's been pounded into his head from the start, and he holds to it with a certain degree of pride. Even if it's done more out of habit than courtesy.

Flaws: Easily Addicted - It's lucky for Mitch he hasn't gotten his hands on anything too hazardous to his health yet. Unless you count the cigarettes; scored from a friend once, hooked from there. Then there's all the soda the guy guzzles down. Plus there's all the money he blows at the arcade, those card games behind the school, even shopping - he's a man of a million vices, and sometimes you'd swear he was looking for more. He can't really function at a hundred percent without them, and while he hates people holding things over his head... it's kind of ridiculously easy to bend him to one's will when they dangle a means to his end just within reach.

It's led him to do some things he regrets in the past, especially when his actions clash with his strong morals. He tries hard to uphold them, and he'd sooner stay miserable without his smokes or his gambling then wrong someone. But he's only human after all, and accidents happen.

Lazy - He procrastinates. And he procrastinates a lot. Try to force him into doing that homework? He'll put it off even longer. Mitch doesn't do anything he doesn't want to do... and even when he does, he'll do it at his own pace and nobody else's. The longer he can put things off, the more content he'll be. Yeah, he'll get to it in a minute, promise. Just five more minutes. Maybe tomorrow.

Temperamental - Mitch has a remarkable short fuse. Push him too hard to do something, he'll snap and storm off. Rub him the wrong way, and you can bet he'll let you hear all about it loud enough for the whole country to know. Maybe he won't strike a woman, but he's got no gripes about going blow for blow with a man. Beware; he can be in a fantastic mood one moment and ready to take someone's head off the next. It's a little too easy to make him lose his cool.

Hypocritical - He has double standards. Galore. For himself, for women as opposed to men, and if his vices or temper come into play, it's a whole other ballgame. His justice isn't always as 'blind' as he'd like to pretend it is or how hard he tries, and deep down, he knows it. He keeps promising himself his lapses in judgment won't happen again, but they inevitably do. It's a major weight of guilt on his shoulders, even if it doesn't show. But even if he knows it, his temper will flare all over again the second someone tries to point it out. He doesn't handle criticism well, at all, and he'll come up with every excuse in the book for why the other person deserved what they got or why he did what he did. He's never the wrong one, even if he's the one that started it.

CHARACTER NOTE: Iliteracy - It's not that he can't read at all. But his reading level is way below what it should be for a boy his age, and one of his many sources of frustration. It's also something he's exceedingly embarrassed about, even if he'd never admit it. He'll usually dodge having to read any way he can, either procrastinating like he always does or getting irritated when someone tries to force him into it. He'll do most anything to keep anyone from figuring out the truth.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Have more of a narrow shape, colored deep coffee brown, maybe a little lighter at the edges.

Hair: Dark brown (almost black) and kept long (always loose, rarely ties it back), looks a bit shaggy, like he doesn't take much time to bother cutting or styling it, bangs hanging messily in his eyes.

Face: More oval in shape, has sort of a long face. Has a pretty prominent nose, no real softness to his features, a few piercings in each ear.

SECTION TWO

Achates, Cavalier of the Cliff

Challenge:

Weapon: Each cut inflicted by the weapon gives the opponent an increased sense of vertigo, paired with that sickening feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you take a sharp drop. Design is up to the artist.

Eye color: Red

Civilian Name: Dion

Hobbies:

"Why yes, that was your cellphone... -was-." - Dion always did like seeing how things worked; so it's no wonder the technology around him intrigues him. He loves getting in there and seeing how things work, taking them apart piece by piece. The unfortunate thing is, breaking things down doesn't always teach him much... and just because he manages to get it apart doesn't really mean he knows how to put it back together again.

Life in Motion - Mitch likes to walk; Dion loves the sensation of running. Biking. Anything he can do to get some speed and feel the wind in his hair. Especially at night, when there's no one else there... it's a strangely liberating sensation, and he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Tea - This doesn't seem like it would be a hobby. But no, he finds a way. He's about as great in a kitchen as a bull in a china shop, but he can make a mean cup of tea - and trust me. He will, again and again and again. He's constantly buying and trying out new brews, and tends to constantly use his fellow cavaliers as guinea pigs to see how they like it. Woe to those that don't want anything to do with it; he will probably take it upon himself to hunt until he can find a blend they do like.

Virtues:

Respectful - He takes his place very seriously, and takes his companions with the highest of esteem. Unlike his host, he doesn't do this out of habit. He does it out of sincere admiration for those people around him. He's a gentleman down to the core; even if there was someone he didn't get along with within his own team, he'd still be nothing but a gentleman to them. After all, you don't need to like someone to treat them right. Particularly if they're in a higher rank; for instance, the prince would obviously get the highest esteem of all, and Captain Hector would be second only to his prince himself.

Listen! - He's a surprisingly good listener. Obviously he does this especially well if it's someone whose opinion he respects. But he's got an open ear for almost anyone in need - if someone needs to rant, he's your go-to guy. He'll just let you get it out of your system, and whatever is said will stay with him, no questions asked.

The exception being if you're going up against someone important to him. Anyone going up against the prince? Forget it. He will shut you off without batting an eye. Politely. But he won't want to hear it.

Thoughtful - Or at least he tries to be for the people that matter to him, in his own little ways. If he knows someone likes a certain snack, he'll try and stock up on it. If they like a certain kind of music of jewelry, he'll keep an eye out for it. Maybe a lot of it revolves around material things, but he does genuinely try and do nice things for the people he cares about. When he says he doesn't expect anything in return, he really does mean it.

Flaws:

Pessimist - If say, the prince or the captain were to fall to an enemy... yes, absolutely, he'll keep fighting for their sake, to the bitter end. But he will go into it expecting to lose. If they don't stand a chance, how is he supposed to? How are any of them supposed to? That same kind of attitude seeps into his life off the battlefield, in varying degrees. For instance, he doesn't think he's a bad looking man. But if someone he regards as being 'better', even subconsciously, catches the eye of someone he likes - or even fails to catch their eye - he'll end up thinking he doesn't stand a chance. Whether they succeed or not, either way, he has a way of twisting it into the worst case scenario.

Withdrawn (selectively) - In other words, he has no problem at all speaking up for the sake of others. If he doesn't like the way one of his friends, or especially his prince is being treated, he'll come right out and say it; or if it's needed, he'll act on it. It's when his own wants and needs come into play that somehow, he always manages to clam up. It's never the right time. It's not important enough. Someone else needs that time and energy more. The words just never seem to flow right. He's the type that will always take one for the team, but he never gives the team a chance to take one for him.

Stubborn - In an odd sense, he's very much a stubborn, stubborn man. No, the prince isn't wrong. No, his feelings aren't important. No, she'll never see me like that. No, it's fine, he doesn't need any help. He's open to new ideas that aid in protecting his prince and helping his team; when he's given an order, he will follow. But at the same time, he's very much set in his own mindset.

"I'm sorry your grandma died; here, I bought you some tea." - While he means well, Dion's approach to being 'thoughtful' isn't always the best road to take. Not everyone can just talk it out when they're upset, and not everyone's going to be comforted by some small token when they're having a crap day. Sometimes he has a tough time reading people and exactly what they need to lift their spirits again, and doesn't quite get that sometimes nothing can help them. It leaves him frustrated and upset whenever it happens, playing straight into his pessimism.

Colors: Up to the artist.
Uniform ideas: Also, up to the artist.

Why?

When I looked up Achates, one of the notes that came with it was it had become another term for a close companion. In the Aeneid, the character from which this title descended was someone who, despite being valued highly and noted as being both virtuous and loyal, lacked a bit of character on his own. So I based the cavalier persona off a touch of that. Mitch, on his own, is a passionate character who stands on his own, someone who likes to play hero in spite of his own flaws. So I thought the contrast between that and a soul that would sooner play support than take center stage would be fun.

In some ways, they're very similar. They both share a loyal streak, they're both passionate for the people important to them, and they're both insecure in their own little ways. Perhaps enough to draw attention to Mitch in the first place to be chosen as a host. A flawed host for a flawed soul that might come together in the long run to make something stronger. Enough similarities to bring them together, enough contrast to set them apart.

So why, why the cliff? The ironic thing was, I looked at the element before I even thought about the actual name - and the aspect of vertigo, of that sensation of falling, intrigued me. And as I began to hammer out Achates' persona, the aspect of the Cliff seemed to fit more and more, in many aspects. If he feels he can't win, his hopes and motivation plummet. If Mitch gets pushed to the point where his temper snaps, it's as if he's gone off the edge. There's so many ways I could think of, for both sides of him, that this element would suit him perfectly.

Hello! I can't wait to see everything fully put together! I really like the idea you had with his weapon. The sense of vertigo, I mean. Maybe you could also incorporate some kind of... false sense of being on the edge of a cliff? Or the enemy put on edge? An illusion of almost falling to their death? Along with a sense of vertigo? I don't know. I feel like there is so much you could do with this character! Er, yes... that's all I have to say for now. Best of luck!!

Hey, thanks! ^^ I appreciate it! Took into account what you said about the effect, and added a little something extra~ I know I have a long way to go, but I'm excited with how it's panning out so far! Thanks! heart

EDIT: Filled out Dion's personality and such in more detail, along with my reasoning... think it could still use a lot of work. But at least it's a start! heart Bring on the criticism fellas!
