Umuthi sat silent on a rock, staring out at the night sky. Everything was twinkly and pretty, and it took Umuthi's mind by storm. She wanted to be pretty and sparkly, just like the things in the sky. She reached up a paw and swiped at them furiously, "Come down here to me. I want to see you up close."
She reached too far with her paw and lost her footing, slipping forward off the rock and tumbling into the ground with a tiny squeak. Another bump and bruise from her, another mark to show her explorative conquests.
Silently watching from the shadows Arlo watched as his sister batted at the stars, willing them to come to her. Didn’t she know that they would never come to her due to the fact that they were glued there? Geez. Shaking his head he moved a little closer, tail flicking as his face slowly formed a line. She was going to fall if she kept that up, and he would have to be the one to kiss her better. Damn it all.
And he was right. He always was after all, and as she squeeked he moved out of the shadows, towards her, shaking his head as he did so. “You really should watch what you are doing Umu… you could really hurt yourself. Tandu wouldn’t like that all that much. More than likely would blame me to. Don’t want that do ya. Me getting blamed for something you didn’t think about before doing.”
Strolling to her side he sat down next to her, peering at her tiny body, make sure nothing was odd. “Are you alright though… I don’t like seeing you hurt.”
Umuthi's ears flattened against her head and her tail tucked around her body. She hadn't meant to make Arlo upset at her, and didn't want Daddy Tandu to be upset at her brother because of her not thinkin' about things before she did them.
"I'm sorry Arlo..." She murmured, quietly, "I just wanted to see the sparklies up close. I didn't mean to make trouble..."
Umuthi nodded as Arlo asked her if she was alright. She was fine for the most part. She'd more than likely be a little sore from the fall in a couple of hours, but it wasn't anything she wouldn't live through, even if she would make little whiney noises along the way.
“Just don’t do it again.” He said sternly before leaning in and giving her a reassuring lick. He didn’t want her to hate him after all. Just know that he wasn’t one to let things pass easily. As for the ‘sparklies’, he would just have to teach her about them and hope she would understand the concept of it all.
And then an idea came to him. He could teach her about stars later. For now however.. lightening bugs would do just fine. “If you wanted to see the sparklies up close you should have said something. Follow me and I will show you thousands of them.” Smirking at her he waited for a brief moment before moving forward towards the grasslands surely filled to the brim with the brightly glowing bugs.
“Race ya.” And with that, he was off. Pieces of dirty and grass flying passed him as he left her to follow after him.
Umuthi nodded to him solemnly until Arlo mentioned seeing thousands of sparklies. Umuthi shook with excitement and a glitter overcame her eyes. A smile overswept her muzzle and she gave off a squee, chasing off after her brother as he proposed to race.
"I'm gonna beat ya! I'm gonna beat ya!" She cried happily, catching up to her brother in her own weird little variation of a run. Umuthi had such a spring in her step whenever something excited her that you might as well think of her as a hare instead of a lion. She bounced around every as if she was one.
