Ian put a fist to his mouth and yawned, stretching his other arm upwards until his spine popped softly but comfortably. He was up perhaps a bit earlier than he would have liked on a Saturday, but he had to run a few errands, not the least of which was to purchase something for his mother for Mother's Day. And the earlier he got to the mall, the better.
She always told him to get her earrings for Mother's day, her birthday, and Christmas every year, but Ian wanted to try to get something a little different if he could. At least he could default to earrings in the absence of anything else. He made his way towards a little boutique he knew his mom liked and hesitated only momentarily before stepping inside.
The red-haired boy did not feel that his manliness was threatened as he walked over to a turning tree display of necklaces and poked through them carefully. If nothing else, they were sparkly, and shopping for his mother made for a great excuse to look through them all. She liked silver and also the color green, so this designer's spring collection seemed a promising place....

"Which piece are you considering?" A girl popped up from behind the red-haired boy, following the male to the selection. It just so happened that they were in the same place, headed for the same spring collection.
"You look clueless. Let me guess. Boyfriend buying his girlfriend's mother a gift? Or a son buying a mother a gift? Or is it a step-mom? Or perhaps, a gift of bribery towards a mother for forgiveness or heart points?" Serah asked,finger pointing to certain items in the selection.
"This one's for bribery, for sure." She pointed to a large piece and her finger traveled across the case to a smaller piece. "Excuse my forwardness-- It really just astonished me to see you actually selecting something here instead of buying a gift card, you know?" She pointed towards the cashier where several men loitered around, waiting for their turn at a gift card. Two categories they could fit in. Obviously either indecisive over their selection and escaping towards the safest route or they didn't care to try selecting one.

Ian's head snapped up as someone started talking right behind him, and he reached out to steady the necklaces he had knocked swinging when he jumped a little.
"Oh, this is for Mother's Day," he hurriedly assured the stranger, very likely blushing at the thought of him (of all people!) having a girlfriend. "And it's just a present. So, uh, something not too expensive, but not too cheap, either. She's always in here looking at things, so I know this is the right place, at least."
The boy followed her pointing to look over at the line of gift card purchasers, and fixed his glasses before shrugging. "I figure if I can't find anything that really stands out, I can always get a gift card, but, I mean, I should at least try to shop."
He glanced at her a moment, then inquired, "Do you work here?"

"Oh no, I dont work here." She shook her head, pink hair waving side to side. "I'm just a nosy passerby, admiring a guy who's being honest about a mother's day gift." She clapped, taking a step back to allow the boy some room to gather his composure. She didn't seem apologetic for her curiosity-- not at all. Instead, she was amused for catching the male off-guard.
"I was looking around for something for myself-- much more selfish than your reason. But I'd make a pretty good helper if you need any?" She pointed towards the horridly busy store clerks, trying to ring up gift cards and helping out other customers in the store.
".. That's if you need it, of course. Some males are blessed with good taste and some aren't. I dont know you well enough to find out which category you fit in?"

"Oh, okay, ah, thank you for your help, then," he told the girl with a small smile. Part of him hoped she was not making fun of him, but her words seemed favorable.
Though Ian himself was not at all sure if he possessed 'good taste'. His mother had been pleased with gifts he had picked for her in the past, so that seemed like a yes, but he had no idea exactly what she meant, like if there was more to it.
"I guess I can let you know if I need a hand?" the red-haired boy conceded. "I dunno if I can help you with your shopping, though. I know what my mom likes, but if I need help deciding, I can let you know." Ian glanced at the rack of necklaces, then chuckled a little, reaching up with one hand to fix his glasses. "Or do you want to see what I pick out anyway? Let me know if it's terrible? And then figure out, ah, which 'category' I am?"
If she wanted to but into his shopping, he was okay with that, he figured, as long as the strange girl did not get to pushy. She struck him as a little strange, but other than her being extremely friendly, Ian saw no harm in it.

""I'd love to see what you pick." Serah said cheerfully, her train of thought leading to the thought that she would get along well with Ian. He didn't seem offended. That was good, considering that Serah didn't seem to get along with easily offended people.
She already had several boxes of necklaces picked out, indicating she had.. quite the budget. Probably a Crystal girl. (Definitely a Crystal girl.) She simply needed to get rung up by the cashier but had been distracted along the way.
That line was long too.
