A new land, a new world, a new explorer.

What a.. strange place. Zyanya thought, stepping onto the grasses, slightly bewildered with her surroundings. Born in ice and snow, so much foliage and greenery was unknown to her. She had escaped her icelands, only to find so much more than more snow. The land was rich in nourishment and held more than enough for thousands of her kind to each their fill each day. As she distanced herself further from her homeland, she had discovered something new to her -- warmth. The cold was all she knew, and the new sunshine and heat burned at Zyanya's white-blue coat. Enduring the new conditions, Zyanya had continued her journey, never faltering, no matter how much new things stormed into her path.

It was a new day once more, and Zyanya had stumbled on the Kawani lands, unknown to her by its name, but showing great promise in it's rich nature. Yet to have met any of its inhabitants however, Zyanya was unsure if such a place was fit. It was unknown territory, and she had no idea what creatures it belonged to. Strolling through the forest grounds, Zyanya kept her ears alert, and her eyes straight. She was unused to such steady ground, the ice normally imparing her ability to stand, and thus her hooves were adapted to smooth surfaces that would allow her to slide. This.. stuff.. was certainly nothing like it. All these leaves and dirt were not strong like the ice. At times, Zyanya felt perhaps her weight would be even too much for it.

No matter though, Zyanya continued strolling, unaware of the danger that rose in these lands along with it's lush surroundings, but acutely searching for it, as if she already knew it was there.

User ImageLicking the blood from his lips, Nos almost seemed to purr. His stomach was full and his energy replinished. The meat from his last kill had done just the trick for the large skinwalker.

Stretching his back and his legs, he stopped for a momement. His ears flickered then lay back against his head...there was an unfamiliar scent carried on the breeze.

His claws flexed just a little, a devilish smile on his face. He had eaten so there was no need to kill, but he had an itch for a good hunt. Slowly, he followed the scent looking for the source, his large paws hardly making a sound as they swept across the earth.

Unused to the footing of dirt and foliage, it was obvious of Zyanya to become easy prey for any seasoned hunter. She was strong and swift, there was no doubt about that, but unfamiliar territory was asking for predators. Zyanya knew this well, but she tred forward. A forest that had a beginning, and yet so far, no end. She had walked this path, and she would continue, no matter the danger it posed to her. The thickening leaves darkened the atmosphere, and the sunlight only broke through in small specks, almost eerily grazing the dirt. It was here Zyanya would be welcomed to her new 'home'.

Zyanya paused in her tracks as a gentle breeze caught her mane and feathers. She stayed still as she could, knowing her scent was now airborne. As the breeze passed, Zyanya began her trek again, but lighter, more wary, and cautious. She could feel the danger breathing at her neck, and the presence coming ever closer. The silence suited the darkening air, and her blood began to race lightly, building her muscles to flee and fight.

Nos stopped as the wind blew, there was a new scent in his lands. Curious, the large male began to follow his nose, hopeing for a large game to play with.

Quietly he prowled through the forest, his ears tucked to his head, his tail low, and his eyes ever alert. The only sound to be heard from the male was the faint clicking of the teeth that adorned his neck and ankles.

In the distance, he saw a light blue flash moving slowly. He stopped to study the object... His hopes had not been in vain, a soquili had entered his domain... The fool.

Creeping closer, he would stalk his prey for a few paces. He would size them up and decide when the best opportunity to attack would present itself.

Patience.

By now Zyanya could easily feel the breath of evil on her coat, but she did not pause. Instead, she feigned weakness. It was a key strategy from her herd to make others underestimate them. While Zyanya was lean and fit, she was smaller than average, and her wild mane could easily cover up whatever muscle showed through her coat. She was strong, from her life in the terrain of the icelands, and skilled in battle and fleeing. While the greatest predator of her tribe in the icelands was the weather, living things too, came after them on daily basis, competing, living, striving for food. For survival.

Zyanya continued her pace, pretending, and doing it well, to be unaware of her pursuer. No one short of a seasoned hunter would've been able to tell she was fully aware of the danger behind her rump. Zyanya made a good actor in face of others, particularily those who threatened her or her close ones. While having little experience with people herself, having grown up alone and looking from outside of the box in gave Zyanya a perfect observation point to examine others and behaviors from. First impressions normally provided a ton for Zyanya to figure out who the other was, and from this one, it sounded more than 'unfriendly'.

Weakling... Nos almost snorted to himself, but caught the action before it happened so not to started the mare. She was small and looked weak by appearance. This hunt wouldn't last as long as he had hoped, but it was a hunt none the less.

A few paces more and he would have easy access to her path, the bushes thinned out just ahead. Carefully he placed each step, intent on capturing this female.

Closer and closer he drew until the bushes were finally thinned enough. Quickly he lept from his hiding in the thickets, his pawed feet skidding in the dirt below him as he dug for traction towards the female. He fangs bared at her as a growl escaped his throat.

Zyanya was all too ready when the vibrations of paws hit the ground hard and sounded up her legs. The thinning bushes would've been perfect for a lunge, and the thicket behind her was ideal for hiding. Without a single hesistance, Zyanya kicked her left hooves into the ground and lept sideways, tossing herself from the once fatal lunge of her predator. There was no time to be surprised that her follower was one like her, only wearing the pelt of a passed cat, and with pawed feet. Predators came in all sizes and shapes, and there was nothing more vicious looking than the fangs on this one.

The toss sent Zyanya into the bushes, and but she landed with elegance and balance, as if she were born in the air and had fallen to her hooves from them. She neither took glance at her predator as she landed, nor did she stay on her hooves for longer than she needed to get right back off. With a leap, Zyanya practically disappeared into the bushes and brush, running, fleeing the battle. She didn't need to fight if she didn't have to, but she had no idea where she was, and this slowed her. She wasn't showing nearly close to what she could normally do on her hooves because of the obstables in her way, but if she found the end of the forests, she'd be free as the wind. Few but the very best could catch Zyanya on her hooves when she went full speed.

The mare made a quite unexpected move my jolting to the side, Nos had trouble following her movements. Smart mare...she had been playing lame as he had been watching her. This might prove to be a challenge after all!

He watched as the blue coat seemed to disappear then reappear through the forest. In his larger size, it would be hard for him to maneuver and keep up with her. As he ran, he started to shift into his alternate form. He found that the smaller from of his alternate self allowed him to move more easily through the bushes and downed trees.

Once fully transformed, the fanged cat took to running after the mare. His paws bounding off of fallen trees, launching him into the air only paces behind her. She was a quick thing, that he was sure of. He dug his paws in harder to try to over take her.

Zyanya glanced back only once in her escape, once, when the noise of paws on soil became softer. It was unforunate that they were not becoming softer due to her pursuer giving up the chase. No. This.. thing.. had transformed into the very cat it wore on it's back! What was this place?! Morphing animals were nowhere in Zyanya's knowledge. But Zyanya had no time to think on this. She neither slowed nor showed any surprise, even if she was amazed, as well as slightly horrified on the inside.

Keep running.. just keep running..

Zyanya felt the lighter and smaller creature gain on her. She had the disadvantage in the forest. It was thick, dark, and unfamiliar. The dirt sagged under her sturdy legs, and the branches came at her from all angles. She was now, the larger of the two, in an enclosed area. She could feel the breath behind her tail, and Zyanya picked up the pace only so much so that she could still figure out where to take her hooves before they took her on their own hayride. The adrenaline fueled Zyanya's speed, but speed could be a danger, and more danger was the last thing Zyanya needed now. Ocean blue eyes scanned the foliage and thicket, and Zyanya took a sharp turn to the left at a opening in the brush, leaping high, and so far, it looked as if Zyanya had wings. Landing was of no trouble, and Zyanya took off once more, searching, searching for her retreat route.

Nos growled out at the mare, she had become quite the challenge! His smaller frame bounded over fallen trees, jumped off of rocks, and came closer and closer to the mare he was chasing.

She was much faster than he had anticipated, if she got to the clearing the chase would be over. Even in his larger form, he wasn't sure that his strides would be enough to catch her.

She took a sudden left, Nos' paws dug into the dirt as he almost seemed to leap sideways after her through the bushes that she had bounded over. His heart was beating heavily, the thrill of the hunt always excited him.

Beat after beat he drew nearer, he lunged at the mare, only able to barely grip her tail in his jaws long enough to pull out strands of hair, he cursed her silently in his mind.

Zyanya winced only slightly when a few strands of her wild tail were caught in the jaws of the beast behind her. She could feel the malice from the cat thing behind her, and continued her blazing run. The lunge should've slowed him down enough for a split second advantage for Zyanya to also slow and take another calculated turn. The foliage was growing lighter now, and it was becoming easier to run, but there was no way of knowing when it would thicken again, nor could Zyanya be sure the thinning foliage was a good sign. Zyanya had lived her life with minimal foliage and blockades that were not sloping icebergs. She knew not of the nature of plants and the outer world, and this set her apart from the beast that pursued her, and not in a pleasurable way for the young mare.

Steady hoofbeats echoed in the rushing forest as Zyanya continued her pace, never looking back to see how far she was from that cat thing. As long as she was ahead of it, it was okay. Now if only all these rocks would leave her hooves alone..

Just being able to catch strands of the mare's tail excited and angered Nos all at the same time. Harder and harder he pushed, but the forest was beginning the thin. If he didn't catch her within the next hundred yards or so, she'd be gone, blazing across the grasslands.

The muscles under his coat rippled, all he wanted was a taste...Just a bite perhaps?

He buried his back paws deep and again lunged for the mare, hoping to bury his claws into her rump.

Zyanya could feel the anger radiating from her predator, but her pace was already as quick as it could get. Without open space, any faster and Zyanya would simply be unable to turn or dodge any trees or foliage that got in her way. The branches had already started to nick her fair coat and cause light scratches due to her momentary speed ups to avoid capture. The foliage continued to thin, and Zyanya continued to run, fleeing for her life, her pelt. She knew she would never match this morphing creature in battle, that was evident with the blood stained claws this one once had around it while it was still in it's large form.

Luck failed Zyanya for just one moment, though, as the cat creature lept and sharp claws sliced neat streaks into her rump, shredding past her delicate skin, just enough to free bloodways. They wouldn't leave scars for the young mare, but blood did escape and drop to the forest patches. It didn't matter though. Such little damage fazed the young mare not, and with the meadow in sight, Zyanya's speed jumped to a whole new level of fearsome. A shining blaze of blue later, Zyanya was out of the forest, in hot pursuit of her new freedom and victory against her predator. Even if the grasslands were not her home turf, she was at home with the wind throwing her mane and tail back, drying up her small wounds and letting her fly. She had escaped from her predator, and though she had done so by furthering her trek into these unknown lands, it was done, and Zyanya did not turn back. The winds were with her, and the moment right then, was hers.
