The pale femme shook herself out as she stared out at the sun that had flooded the entrance to the small den she resided in, though is was nothing more than a rough hole dug under a large oak tree's roots. Taking a quick cleaning of her paws, her pale eyes searched out into the small clearing about the pack lands in front of her, the many small and large dens dotting the area around, heading up the slop towards the small cliff that looked of over the beautiful scenic expense of the mountains of Telk from which they lived. A smile spread over her maw as a faint wind swept by as though a small brush on her cheek. Having grown up in a very spiritual environment, her father the shaman and healer of the pack. As a pup she had always looked up to Kalain, wishing to learn the ways of healing for herself, but had found little in the means of talent for the skill.

A soft sigh rose and fell through the slight femme, petite like her father. Though she had grown up in the pack she had never been the most social of wolves, keeping mostly to herself, within her own mind, seeking out the purpose of herself on her own, trying to figure out where exactly she fit into the pack. She could hunt but she wasn't the best, the could clean but it was work that dirtied her fair pelt and she would then be forced to spend the next few hours preening herself like a cat. She knew there was something out there for her, something that she would be good at that she could assist the pack with some form of skill that would benefit them and not just herself.

"One day, one day I'll find my place here in Aves..." she told herself quietly and laying back her pale lilac ears and stamping down a paw in resolution. Soon enough, one way or another she would find her place, and make her parents proud of her.

Quin was slender, if not petite, and had such a similar colouration to many of the pack that one would not have been surprised if the black and white wolf had been born to them, except for one thing: his coat. He had a much finer fur than the rest of the pack, even in winter, and felt the cold more.

Today, though, the sun warmed his back as he made his way down towards the lake - large a crystal clear pond which swelled each year with melt-water from the mountains. The ground around it was a little boggy, in autumn, but in spring and summer it was a beautiful, lush wetland where prey was usually in easy abundance.

After several days spent at the shrine, in meditative contemplation, he needed to stretch his legs, loosen the cobwebs in his body and soul.

If they had been able to see into each others minds, they'd have been surprised at the similarities. Their aims, or lack thereof, were something they both struggled with and aimed to rectify. Quin, though, was beginning to find himself drawn to one aspect - that of, for now, just listening to others. Being there, as it were.

Not realising, he passed Ithil, below her at the inner side of the cliffs from which she looked out.

The faint breezes continued to grow strong at the height of the cliff, bringing up the scents of below, the beautiful sight of the lake below. Clear fresh water that held so many secrets of the places it had come from, high in the mountain, low in the many valleys all to come down here and water the pack and the many other beings that made this land their home. Though with it the trances of the other, filled with that similar scent that was respective of the pack and yet so different to distinguish each wolf as their own.

Nose twitching the female narrowed her pale eyes, she knew the scent, but not the wolf. Well, maybe she did just not by name. Toying about with her thought, a secret battle raging in her mind. She'd never been social...maybe it was time she started to at least try, it couldn't hurt; could it? Getting up she made her way back down the cliff side, following the trail around the front face of the cliff, ahead she could just barely spot the other.

Opening her maw to call out, she withdrew, unable to even imagine raising her voice to such an extent with as soft-spoken as she was never had her voice gone above the talking-tone. Whining slightly she merely continued forward, just watching for the time being, almost tracking the other wolf from the shadows of the cliff face with curiosity bubbling beneath her pelt giving an almost giddy sensation through her, as though on a sort of expedition full of mystery. Where was he going and why? But oh...would he be angry if he found her following him? She very well hoped he wouldn't be, that last things she needed or wanted for that matter was to have another cross with her.

Unaware of the moral quandry Ithil had found herself in above, Quin continued on his way, skirting the base of the cliffs and moving on a little, towards the glistening, sunlit water. He wondered if there were fish here. As a pup, he'd had fish a lot as he'd lived close to the sea with the Outriders. He liked the sweet, delicate tang of the white, almost translucent flesh and wondered if river fish tasted the same as sea fish. After all, the sea was salty, and it's fish often had a light salty taste but rivers were not.

Insects, tiny mammals and frogs passed safely by his feet - he wasn't interested in such measly fare - too much effort for too little reward and, in some way, it felt a little unsporting. Quin was a hunter, but he was not a natural 'killer' as some were. Somewhere, overhead, a crow circled - casting it's shadow on the land below.

As he plodded along, feet starting to sink a little into the damp, mossy ground the male slowly began to be aware of a niggle, a little twinge of something. Maybe it was a stray scent, a shadow not quite right, or perhaps even a small creature here and there running out of the way of something which was not himself. Whatever it was, Quin started to feel as though he might not be alone. He wouldn't have been surprised if another pack member had been nearby - afterall he wasn't that far from the main dens.

He glanced over his shoulder, trying to see if there was another or if it was his imagination.

She had noticed his first glance backwards and hid within the shadows if it did her pale pelt any justice and apparently it had as he turned back and continued on. Either he had not seen her or he did not care that she was there; either way she was not yelled at or told to go away. Following him again her curiosity growing more and more as her pale, clean paws sank slightly into the muck making her cringe a little, the pelt she kept so clean becoming blemished with the mud and algae. That wasn't going to stop her, she had come this far already and she would be damned if she gave up and turned back now.

When a bright muddied, green frog leaped across her path Ithil let a quiet yet escape her throat, but whether it carried to Quin she wasn't so sure. That just happened to be when the male looked back. Pale eyes grew wide as she stood there, a paw still raised ready to run, ears docked, and looking as though a deer caught by surprise and stunned into immobility.

s**t...so much for her following him until she worked up the courage to say something or approach on her own. It took her a moment to lower her paw and lower her head almost in shame like a child caught in the middle of breaking a rule. "I...I'm sorry..." she said softly in her gentle voice. "I didn't mean to be rude and follow you. I'll leave now." she whined slightly. Now that she thought about it, following the male like she had wasn't the smartest thing in the world that was for sure.

His pale blue eyes flashed widely in surprise, eyebrows raising and ears twitching softly. Although he had almost expected someone to be behind him, it came as a slight shock that she was actually there.

It took him a moment to figure out who it was - for a second he had thought it was Kevarian, but it only took another second for his brain to realise that it was, in fact, Var's sister - Ithil. He had seen her around, when she had been young, but not so much as she grew up. She was almost a stranger to him, despite the fact they lived within tens of metres of each other.

He was almost ashamed at that - there were so many in the pack that he hadn't gotten to know. He'd been his usual, fearful self and had stuck to, mostly, the first two wolves who had brought him here. Despite the pack's kind attentions, despite their acceptance of him and even though he'd hunted at their side, he didn't really know many of them. He added that to the growing list of self-realisations which he felt the need to 'fix'.

"Ithil?" he managed a nervous smile. He never had been good at meeting and greeting others. "Oh, no, please. There is no need to be sorry!" he added hurriedly as she turned to go. "I am sorry!" he blurted out. He was, for not getting to know her before now, he almost felt it was his fault for her following him - if he had gotten to know her better before now she might not have felt that he wasn't someone she could just say hello to? He felt himself fretting and immediately tried to keep calm. He had spent days meditating on the nature of his soul, the meaning to his life, he could handle talking to another.

"I would like you to stay" he said "If that is what you would like too" he added, a little more meekly. Just because he was feeling the need to oust his self-consciousness around others didn't mean he had to force his company on someone.
