Now people still think that girls should be Flutes or Clarinets but I disagree. I'm a Baritone/Tuba. If you are another girl that plays in low brass post and show you are just as good as boy are in low brass!
LET'S TAKE A STAND AND SHOW WE CAN PLAY IN BRASS!!!

Do people still have that mentality? In our band we have many girls play low brass, but most of us play woodwinds because they're lighter instruments... But a lot of us do a different instrument for marching season. :] Like me, I play flute for concert, and I'm going to march Tuba for marching season.

that's like my school, when I tell them I'm in band, the first instrument they think I play is the flute. I play trombone.
sadly, in my school, there are more guy brass instrument players. But this year, my friend/ band role model was lowbrass section leader and she's a girl. the other brass section leader was also a girl. next year I'll be leader of the low brass section.

I play flute, but I'm going to play tuba for marching season next year like L33tMast3r. n__n
We have one girl in the low brass section currently, and she plays baritone and trombone. There's actually only four girls that play BRASS, two trumpets, the baritone/trombone girl I already mentioned, and a French horn. o__O And we have a band of 120ish.

(Btw that number includes our guard...I think without guard it's 90-100 or something.... =P)
But even though we only have four female brass players, we have three bass clarinet girls, one of whom plays contra! (And I think it weighs twice as much as her, she's teeny!)

~And I can't stand the pain...~
~♥-♥-♥~
I play the tuba, and I think it's great. I was the only girl in my band class last year (there were 2 beginning classes), and I'm the only girl in the low brass section this year (advanced band now, hehe); we have a band of about 62. Obviously I think it's okay for girls to be in the baritone/tuba sections or even low brass in general. Most people assume I play flute or clarinet when they first see me; it's kind of irritating.

well in the marching band, we have about 250-300 people (guard not included) but this year the low brass is being taken over by girls tho theres only 5 of us. one tuba, three trombones and im going to play baritone. its fun because the guys in our band knows that the fiercest girls are the low brass and we can and have kicked people butts.

In marching band we had 2 girls in low brass, a flute that had switched to tuba, and our baritone playing drum major.
Concert season, the tuba switched back to flute, but one of the boy tubas taught another girl how to play tuba.
Half of our horn section were girls. There were only 2 horn players.
Our trumpet section is pretty well balanced. In advanced band there were 4 guys and thats all, but in cocnert band there were 3-4 guys and the rest were girls, which would be 4-8 girls.
As for the girls play fltue and clarient steryotype and guys don't, I'd liek to say that we had 3 guy flutes and half the clarient section were guys.

Yes it's only a middle schoole band too. holy s**t! i know there's a high school marching band with that many, but a middle school band?! my school's mb has 151 members including guard. without it would be 136. anyway, i'm one of two girls that play baritone (out of cool and there's 5 trombone players that are girls. 2 female trumepts, and 3 female mellophones/french horns. no girls have played tuba, but i heard there might be some that'll march next year. I'm hoping that i'll be section leader my senior year (i can't compete with the guy running next year. xP) being as i'm the only freshman, it will be likely that i'll be the only senior. And i gots major skittles (not as much as our current section leader or the guy running next year, but i'm in 3rd place :3) so i'm very confident. And if I DO make it, i'll be the first female baritone section leader in the history of our school.
