Ayita's aqua paws fell slowly into the leaves that gathered at her feet. Soft grey eyes looked around uncertainly.Where am I? I am alone, yes... Is this feeling what I will live with my entire life? I am alone... and I know that this is how it must be. A puppy so young thinking thoughts too old. She was born into the world hated by her Pack. Another Sacrifice, another nameless animal. That was what they said. They might not have known, but she had heard them whispering. She always did. It hurt and she hated it... but still, she could not bring herself to hate them. She feared her brother, she pitied her mother and she resented her Naturally Colored sister.
Naturally Colored... really, what was that supposed to even meet? In nature, all colors were natural... so why was she unnatural? She was the color of the Duck Pond, the Clouds in the Sky and the Night Sky itself... those were all natural things, but still she was shunned. What had she done wrong? She had been born, of course. The Stripes beneath her eyes grew damp and she realized that in her contemplation and sorrow she had stopped walking and the tears that stung her eyes had started to fall.
The wolf child looked around and not for the first time in her short life, she felt very small and very alone. One thing in her mind was certain. She was very Lost and no one would know where she was.

x x x x x x "M-Momma? Poppa?"
It was like he had cycled through all of his family's names a million bajillion times plus one, and yet still no sign of them . . . What had happened? One minute, Erynion and his family were out hunting, finally getting to the basics, the storm above them more of a comfort than it was a warning - then a flash of light, resounding crashes that hurt his ears terribly, and then smoke and fire and a tree or two falling - and then within minutes he had gotten separated from them. It was a night of chaos and crackling fire that had left him sleepless in pure fear and sorrow. His forest, his family . . . gone within one strike of lightning.
Not that it stopped the pup from searching, though he remembered not to call out as much lest it attracted predators. A lone wolf was a dead wolf after all; oh heavens, the mere phrase sent his hackles stiffening with anxiety as he quietly crept about the forest. Mother loved the forest . . . was she here maybe? Forest fire or not, she had always walked about under the trees' dappled shadows and keep him company - such a clinger he was! He was so helpless without someone to guide him.
When his eyes started to blur with tears again, Erynion decided it was high time to find shelter by a tree and rest for a moment. Yet as he shuffled his paws against the grassy ground, he scented another wolf nearby - and immediately stiffened. Oh heavens, now what? Had it seen him, heard him, smelled him even? Oh, how he wished he was bigger and strong like his siblings . . . maybe it was liek the hair, denied to him for some reason he couldn't understand. Ery was sure he had done something wrong to deserve such a punishment, born as a runt and "bald" (in comparison to over half his family). Maybe today I'll die! he thought, and whimpered aloud before he could stop himself.
Ah, no no no! Now for certain it would have heard him! He winced but was stuck in position regardless; his body refused to listen to his first instinct to run, just as a deer seemed to lock position and stare at its impending doom sometimes.

Thunder clashed and little Ayita jumped in surprised. With the soft breeze the scent of another was sent her direction and she whimpered softly. A male, she could tell that much. She lifted her head and sniffed slightly. She was afraid that it would be a big male that would try to hurt her because she was colored strangely. She looked around her and when the light flashed again she saw a small shadow.
She was curious and slowly she made her way towards the figure that realized was the source of the scent. "Hello? E'scuse me... any one there?" she asked a little timidly.

Oh no, it - she - had heard him! It didn't matter to Ery that the voice was rather high-pitched and that it was probably someone around his age, he was just scared out of his mind. The gathering clouds above him didn't help; only during storms did he feel the most energetic, and right now he didn't need that course of adrenaline running through his system; not when he should be standing still! His fur twitched in odd places, and he could not help but blurt out, "N-No! No-one's here!"
Yeah, that'd deter someone away just fine. Idiot! Immediately the boy practically jerked to the nearest tree and pressed his back against it, hoping to high heaven that the girl just moved along.

"Really? What a relief... I was afraid someone bigger than me was after me to hurt me again." She said, stepping around his tree having seen his shadow move in the flashing violet light. "Are you okay?" she asked, tilting her head.

Erynion froze up against the tree as the girl found him, only half-relieved that she was around his size, maybe slightly larger; not that he wanted to so much as pry himself off to find out. "U-Um . . ." She was afraid too? Maybe this girl was as lost as he was; not helpful . . . Thunder rumbled in the distance again. "I can't hurt anyone," he confessed. "D-Do you know where we can find s-someplace to stay for the storm?"

She approached him and in actuality it appeared she was a little smaller, even if she stood up tall. "I'm sorry for scaring you. Come with me, okay? I saw a hollowed out log with rocks on both sides. The hole is in the front so I don't think either of the sides will be too terribly wet." She turned and tip toed through the mud to get to the log. She stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him. "Coming?"

"S-Sure." Well that was simple! Maybe only trusting wolves his age would get him somewhere; maybe it was only adults that he had to watch out for. Among bears, lynxes, murderous crow hoardes, loud squirrels, and other animals that might squish or hurt or eat him . . . Tail tucked, Erynion followed after her, blinking off light droplets of rain as it began to sprinkle on them. A fork of lightning clawed through the sky far away from them, again bringing ominous rumbles of thunder soon after. It was either because of the storm or his sheer fear that Ery zipped into the hole hastily, immediately pressing himself against the somewhat moist wood. His yellow eyes almost glowed in the twilight.
"M-Maybe the storm is a sign," he mumbled to himself. "Maybe P-P-Poppa's nearby . . ." He was a shaman of lightning after all. Maybe that was his way of looking for him?

Ayita laid down and started licking the water out of her fur. She finished grooming herself and sat up to look at him. "You should get the water out of your fur or you'll catch a cold." she warned him kindly.
She laid back down and then looked at his coloration curiously.

You could . . . lick the water out? Huh! He never thought of that. Maybe it would've saved him a few days of horror in the past when merely shaking it out wouldn't do . . . "Daddy s-said that's not true," Erynion commented as he sat down and began to dry himself some. "That getting cold makes you sick. 'Cause then everyone would get sick in the winter, and th-that doesn't always happen." Another low rumble of thunder. The rain picked up, pounding their shelter. He tilted his ears back at the noise. "A-Are . . . Are you alone too?" he asked, glancing at her.

"Weellllll, it doesn't always happen, but it's better th be safe rather than sorry, right?" she smiled at the male and when the thunder rolled again she stood and walked closer to him. Laying down she started licking the water away. She heard his question a paused a moment before nodding. "Yeah... I'm all alone. My pack says I'm unnatural so I'm not allowed to be with them." she murmured bitterly, eyes sad.

Ol-j-man Hokies, just post this for me in the thread, you reply in that thread, and I'll kee an eye out for it this time. 83 At those last words he frowned, for such a concept was foreign to him. Erynion had grown up in a rather loving family, where although the pack members sometimes scattered, they always converged back soon enough; still didn’t make him any less dependent on his immediate family. But this idea of being scorned for your fur color, well . . . it was just strange sounding. It wasn’t like you could help being what color you were, right? “M’sorry,” the pup replied sincerely. “That doesn’t sound right at all. I mean, you’re a puppy. Puppies shouldn’t be out alone . . .”
He took a good look at himself and figured asking about this pack would be worthless. If this girl was considered unnatural, pale with the blue and green strips, then they’d probably spit at the sight of him: all green and black and red and gold. A real mix of his parents all right, but if only he had gotten something more than just appearances from them . . . Both of his parents would have remained strong in light of the separation. Why couldn’t he? “Wh-Why would they not like unnatural?” he asked after a small pause. “There’s a lot of us around.”

"Everyone in my pack is naturally colored... my mom was the only one who wasn't... they don't accept her either. I have siblings, but one of them, my sister, she's naturally colored... and they talk to her and she's allowed to play with the other pups..." she said softly, eyes focused on the ground when she spoke. "You're the first puppy I'm not related to that's even looked at me, let alone spoken to me..." she whispered, ears flickering back against her head.
Thunder clashed loudly above them and she jumped. [just as I typed that, it starts thundering out, omz that's too funny.] She sighed and laid her head on her paws, looking out into the rain. "I wonder who knows I'm gone." she murmured quietly.

Ol-j-man His frown intensified, less with confusion and more with indignity. “That sounds really silly, not liking you just because you look different,” Erynion commented. “We’re not all gonna be naturals. A-A lot of my pack wasn’t natural at all. My dad’s black with red spots and has this really cool white mohawk, and my mom’s green and tan so no prey ever sees her coming in the forest. And I knew one of the alphas was black and blue, and there was this all purple guy with a white face too. And they were all really nice to me. So . . .” And then the thunder crashed, cutting off his train of thought. He winced at the loud sound just above them.
“But, um . . . d-do they let you stay at least?” the pup picked back up. “My pack just . . . just disappeared. And I lost my family. Th-That’s why I’m out looking for them alone.”
