It was a warm night, and Ladon decided to go out…at night. Skittish, he decided to stay clear of a particular area and find a quiet place where he could just rest. He was just reintroducing himself again, getting back into the swing of things, and wasn’t, for once, looking for trouble. Since the park usually meant the place was teaming with senshi, he picked the docks near the bridge. On the rim overlooking the water, he sat and let his feet dancing, watching the water move. It wasn’t until he started thinking how easily someone could come and push him into the swiftly moving water where not even his Nega strength could get him. The image of being sucked under the current shook him and he slipped off to walk across the small area, covered in aged stones, until he went to a lighted fountain. It was beautiful this time of night, and the light made him feel more secure. Sitting himself over on the base, he watched as the water splashed, ripple the water where a thin layer of change was sitting. Sometimes the homeless would come to scope up the change for a meal or something illegal. He doubted anyone visited the fountain to wish on some hobo getting his fix.

Yawning, he sat Indian style and looked up at the sky, listening to the sound of splashing water and the distant sounds of the city. Nights like these, who could think about going after a starseed?

At one time, Pasha loved finding solace in the park, counting fireflies and teaching himself about constellations and astronomy. He had plenty of fond memories about the place, but it seemed that, more recently, hanging out around all of the playground equipment and greenery just left a bad taste in his mouth. Youma encounters might have been possible to forget, but the park was so close to the place Serandite had warned him to avoid. The park was now synonymous with the one time in life he'd broken a promise. And he didn't want the park to make him feel bad anymore.

His uneasiness led to wandering, lost in his thoughts and contemplations. This in itself was unusual for the usually cheery teen, but nothing seemed to be taking his mind off of conflict and mistakes nowadays.

The sound of running water piqued his interest, and he snapped back to reality to follow it. Paying more attention to the pretty stones beneath his feet than where he was going, he let out a little "ouch!" when his shins collided with the side of the fountain.

Well, he'd found it.

If Wolframite had been walking, he probably would’ve run into something too. While he wasn’t paying attention, he was at least aware enough to keep his balance and not fall back into the water, which almost happened when he heard someone say ‘ouch’. Startled, he whipped his head about and scooted back in time to see a young senshi. While he would consider her about his weight, he knew she was small. Her outfit was white on baby blue but the shoes, socks, and even the hair were of dark rainbows. She looked out of place, and since she wasn’t pointing at him and shouting some line, didn’t seem to had seen him right off the bat.

A quick discussion ran though his mind. It went something like this.

Ack! A senshi!

Well, time to fight.

I don’t FEEL like fighting today.

This is your duty as a Lieutenant.

But….my heart really isn’t into it tonight. I thought I would just, ya know, stargaze a while.

That’s just lazy. You could get a really good starseed out of this. Wouldn’t that be worth fighting for.

……

What?

I really just want to hang. It’s not like I won’t run into a million other senshi. They are everywhere.

….that’s true.

So can I just sit and shoo her away?

FINE! But for the record, I did tell you. Be lazy. See if I care.

He turned about, watching the senshi step back and look at the fountain as if she thought it just appeared suddenly out of nowhere. Not really with it today, was she? “Hey? Um…senshi! I’m not fighting today, so if you’re here for that, I’ll just leave.” He got her attention at least, so she couldn’t say he snuck up on her.

Despite all of the trouble it had caused in the past, Pyxis didn't seem to take precautions have a keen awareness of his surroundings, as evidenced by the hurt shins he rubbed in disappointment. That would probably bruise. Darn.

He had just made himself comfortable on the edge of the fountain to give his legs a rest when a voice startled him, sending him backward into the water. The coins that lined the bottom of the fountain didn't make for a particularly resistant surface; by the time the clumsy Senshi had regained his balance and was able to sit up again, most of his upper body and all of the longer bits of his hair were dripping wet with the very sanitary fountain water.

Embarrassed, he turned to address the other boy, blinking water out of his eyes.

"I don't wanna fight you either. And I'm really bad at it. And if you want to take my starseed or punch me or be mean, just do it quickly and then I can just go home and take a bubblebath and Abel won't ever have to know." Though he had said he wasn't fighting today, he knew that these Negaverse people could be tricky. After the meeting with the Basterds, he wasn't sure what to think. He did know, however, that he'd rather retreat and tend to his wounds after an up-front beating than have to face paranoia that every person who was nice to him was also possibly trying to break all of his limbs and rip out the shiny thing that lived in his heart.

While he thought he was a pathetic mess at times, this senshi really was sucked at something as basic as balance. Not only had he not scoped out the place before entering it, making him easy if the Negaverser was waiting for easy prey, but he bumped into the fountain and then fell right into the water. Despite his alliance, he instinctively reached out in an attempt to grab him, but the Lieutenant was too far away to reach him and the boy was already in the water by the time his hand was out.

Dripping wet, the boy sat back down, wiping what had to be dirty water out of his eyes. It seemed that he didn’t have a great day, and Wolframite was sure that falling into a fountain didn’t make things better. Even while he didn’t laugh at the boy falling or looking like a drown cat, he had to laugh at the fact he had NO idea what he was talking about. “Well don’t make it sound TOO easy. I’m feeling like I should take it from you now if you are just giving it away, but I don’t think you even know what you’re talking about.” Even while it wasn’t something he liked to admit, it should have been universal knowledge at this point what a starseed was, and the Lieutenant shifted so that he could sit while facing the other senshi from across the fountain.

“I don’t think you’d be going home after taking a starseed. In fact, I’ll guarantee you that you either die or you turn into a vegetable.” He frowned, green eyes growing serious. “I should know. Collecting them is what I do.”

"I'm not giving it away or anything!" Pyxis quickly retorted, his expression turning almost...cold. It was unusual for him to get so offended, but this starseed business was really getting frustrating, and he had decided a long time ago that being "special" wasn't worth the risk. It was like being the owner of the most expensive gem in the world, and carrying it around on open palms all day. When he was in his Senshi form, he felt just as vulnerable. "I just...I just can't really put up a fight. All I know how to do is hurt your eyes, but there are like..ten other senses you could use to find me, and some of you guys have youmas of your own, and-"

He stopped himself, realizing that he probably should not be discussing tactical information with someone in the Negaverse. It was already bad enough that he was just talking to him in the first place.

"I don't want to be either of those things..." It was odd, consciously thinking about how the removal of his starseed meant he would meet his end. He knew, technically, that was how it happened, but it was so gruesome. It was so final. He looked over at the Lieutenant with a slight frown, eyes searching for a little bit of honesty. "How come? I mean. I know the reason you guys are s'posed to, but it doesn't seem very fun. Doesn't it make you cry? Don't you feel bad? Even the people at the animal shelter have gotta feel bad after they...you know...the puppies and kitties and stuff."

Though he knew he was just beyond an arm's length of distance from the other boy, he drew his knees to his chest and hugged them close. He was wet and uncomfortable and sad and curious, and he was just going to have to trust him for now, even if it turned out to be a stupid decision. He had to know. Even if it hurt.

Talking about starseed removal was a one-time discussion in the Negaverse most of the time. They were told what to do, how to do it, and that was pretty much that. Saying that you had to get 5 starseeds made it more business and made you think less than if you were ordered to kill 5 people. Saying the word ‘starseed’ reminded you that there was a purpose and that the killing was just a process that you had to get out of the way to get to your goal. As far as collecting went, having long talks about the moral dilemmas of killing someone had not been big on anyone’s list. You had to deal with it on your own and were in fact expected to sort it out and get back to your job.

It didn’t make life any easier to walk around and start deconstructing a person to only being a body with an energy source inside. It made everyone feel like batteries, and you felt more inhuman for thinking of them as walking meat casings to a precious gem inside. As much as he tried to go for the worst people to make him feel better, could go through denial at times that he wasn’t a mad man, it was still criminal to kill.

“I don’t like killing. It’s not something I enjoy. Anyone who enjoys it is off their rocker. It’s just…..something that has to be done. I appreciate the people who have fallen, because I know they are all being used for a good purpose. You might not think highly of me and even think I’m a lunatic, but I know better. People die all the time. Some get hit by buses. Some crash their cars when they get distracted. A lot of people die doing stupid things and nothing good comes from their death. At least the way we do it means that they don’t die for a stupid reason.” That was what he had come to believe, and what was keeping him going at this point.

While the girl was in easy reach and fully gave up her weaknesses to him, he didn’t jump out to take the starseed from her. Instead, he turned about and sat Indian style on the fountain, looking at the girl. “I do feel, and I do feel bad when people die. I just saw 5 people die on my side for no reason than to make a point. There are plenty of people who kill and being in the Negaverse means I might die. I just know that being a Negaverser is something worth doing, and something worth dieing for. You don’t seem to really feel that way. The Negeverse isn’t the only enemy out there. Do you think anyone is going to show you some mercy or kindness when you’re in uniform? No. If you don’t care or feel up to it, than don’t be a senshi. Don’t go out and make trouble if you can’t do it. You’ll live longer and possibly die years upon years by a heart attack or something normal like that.” It also meant a senshi off the street was good for the Negaverse and the world overall.

“I don’t have magic powers, even ones that hurt someone’s eyes. No magic and I’m still out here fighting. I learned to get stronger, because if I don’t, I die. I’ll die by someone else.” There were many enemies for the Negaverse, and he’d seen 5 lives snuffed out. Death was very real. He took like, and so did other people. He wasn’t immune to it just because he was in the Negaverse. This was serious business.
