It had been about a week since she started working at Elizabeth's Secret. It was a week of constant blushing and embarrassment for Yvette Weaver as she attempted to learn the ways of the lingerie shop. Mrs. Ortiga, thank goodness, was very familiar with how soft the girl spoke. Those years of being Mommy's acquaintance certainly seemed to pay off. Though her boss still expected her to do her work like anybody else on staff, she was always more than willing to let Yvette work areas in the shop that didn't require as much talking. Restocking or reorganizing shelves and tending to the dressing rooms seemed to the frequent activities for the quiet girl. Yet regardless of the activity, the girl permanently had a noticeable blush coloring her face the full work day.

Elizabeth's Secret was a very busy store. Despite there being handfuls of girls huddled up at the "bargain bins" squealing over how cute the underwear they found was, it was considered a slower day. The shop wasn't empty, but it was just less crowded than usual.

Using her work time efficiently, the short dark-haired girl had noted that a particular display was starting to look a bit empty. It was particularly popular line of undergarments, so it made sense that she had to go in the back room, pull out some of the stock, and return back to the front to place them in the display. She quietly fiddled with the display, making certain to keep everything nice and neat.

Keeping busy and organized was more or less a coping mechanism for her at the moment. That way, Yvette didn't have to think about how embarrassing her job was.

Once a week, Jada Chamberlyn made a lingerie run to her favorite store. She'd been doing it since she started puberty; she'd most likely be doing it until the day she left DC and had to find a new store, or died. It wasn't because she had to, by any means. It was because there was something about the act of purchasing something cheap, cute and sexy that only she knew she'd be wearing was as addicting as the act of spending thousands of dollars on clothes. Almost. It was because she was addicted to spending, and addicted to new clothing. They knew her, at Elizabeth's Secret. Jada owned one of almost everything they stocked, just on principle. Not only the cute little nightwear, all lace and ribbon, but bathing suits and dresses, shirts and pants.

It had been a couple weeks since she'd been in there last, and she was desperate to do some shopping. Not that she needed to.

She stepped through the doors and into the familiar store. There weren't many people there; of course, it was just after school, almost, and it was getting close to graduation. It was the time for last-minute projects to be completed in order to keep up grades, try and raise GPA and avoid summer school; Jada, thank goodness, didn't have to worry about it. She didn't have to bother with her grades, she was still riding an A. Her school work was almost made up from her hospital stay, and with everything else she had to worry about...

The store seemed dramatically understocked in places, and there was a gaggle of girls around one of the little bargain bins. Luckily, Jada never bothered with those unless she had to. She frowned, thinking of the piles of clothes she'd bundled up the night before that were being delivered to charity right about now; she needed most of a new wardrobe. Everything that had been infected by contact with her stalker was in those bundles, which left her with a mostly-empty closet at home.

Time to start filling it back up.

Lesson 1: Greet customers when they come into the shop.

True, Yvette wasn't a very loud person. Heck, she wasn't even a normal-voiced person. She was quiet.

So when a girl about her age showed up, passing the bargain bins, her indigo eyes lit up. With her tiny smile, she almost seemed to trot over to the potential customer. Sadly, she had to close the gap to be heard, so when she was practically next to this girl (who was also about as short as her), she finally greeted "Good afternoon, Miss. Is there anything you are looking for in particular?"

It should have been obvious to Jada that Yvette (as it said on her name badge) was the newest member on staff. She wasn't a familiar face, and she called her "Miss" of all things.

Lesson 1(a): Make sure you speak loudly enough customers can hear you.

When Yvette first spoke, Jada didn't hear her, thinking it was a staff member speaking from across the store. Then she almost tripped over a slightly taller young woman. It took her a second to process that this woman had spoken to her. Maybe. She was staff, and she was looking at Jada almost expectantly.

"I'm sorry, did you say something?" it took a bit to get Jada flustered; the thought that she'd been ignoring the poor girl made her feel rotten. She didn't recognize her. This Yvette must be a new addition. She was cute enough, slimmer and taller than Jada herself. The lucky thing. "I was distracted." it was true.

The girl was very aware of Lesson 1a. Her cheeks darkened in color as this customer obviously could not hear her greeting. For a moment, her eyes attempted to flutter to the floor, but then she remembered Lesson 2. Eye contact was key. Polite, direct eye contact made one look much more confident, which was key if you wanted to try to sell something. She caught herself as she made it to the midway point, and soon enough her eyes were back on this girl's eyes.

She had an eye color that was strangely close to her own. In fact, aside from this girl's hair being curly, they had a lot in common. Dark hair, short, well endowed, and now the eye color.

Bravely (at least bravely for an Yvette Weaver), the girl tried to greet the other girl again. "Oh no, I'm sorry, I actually can't really speak much louder than this without really straining my voice. I was wondering if there was anything you were looking for in particular?" Okay, so she managed to sneak an apology in there too, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Unless you knew Yvette on a more personal level and realized she apologized for things all the time that weren't her fault.

Jada frowned thoughtfully, looking over the walls. Clothes, in so many colors and styles. Right now she had what she was wearing and not too much else. A few things littered her closet, but most of it was gone. She finally turned to Yvette. "You're in luck." regardless of the fact that Yvette really needed a bigger voice if she was going to work in customer service. "I need a whole new wardrobe, and this is my first stop." Jada moved towards the walls, pulling down a few bras. "I normally come in once a week, but it has been a while since I was in here last." As clearly evidenced by the fact that she hadn't met Yvette yet. "Normally Becky is here, isn't she?" she knew her as a saleswoman. And the other woman knew her style, to point her in the right direction. She also had an eye for color that was hard to beat.

Oooo, such a cute bikini! She frowned, breathing through her mouth in a rush of unhappy air. And then she moved. Jada was a shopping whirlwind. She didn't bother to check the size on most of the clothing, she just pulled out a few colors and held it in front of herself. Dresses and skirts and tops, bras and underwear, all tugged down and thrown over her arm. Normally she had someone who knew her shopping habits at her side; this was a trial by fire for poor Ms. Yvette.

And finally she started the sorting process. A few pieces of clothing were too big, a few too small; they were tossed to the side and then Jada tried again, digging through the racks. One thing she was not: a conscientious shopper. She didn't think much of the fact that someone would have to put the clothing back. It was like a library patron not putting back a book, but in fact grabbing them off the shelves and deliberately putting them elsewhere!

But Jada didn't think of it as such; cruel of her, perhaps. A real job might make her think differently, but she'd never worked retail.

Probably never would.

One thing the quiet girl had learned early on in her life was to nod if she wanted to say yes. As the other girl explained her routine, Yvette's head was silently nodding along, letting her know that she understood what she was saying.

The mention of Becky managed to get a small explanation from the girl along with the nodding motion. "Yes, but Becky actually was the employee who most recently left. Mrs. Ortiga mentioned something about moving out of state for a college transfer." In essence, this meant Yvette was Becky's inadequate replacement. An inadequate replacement who just got haphazardly thrown into a shopping frenzy.

Almost helplessly, the girl seemed to trail the other dark-haired girl. When clothing was tossed to the side, the new employee was trying to pick up the stray merchandise, piling it up over her arm carefully. One thing about Yvette was she could be very meticulous with clothing. As the pile grew on her arms, she still continued to try and place each article on her arms with as few wrinkles as possible.

A small part of the girl couldn't help but feel very jealous. Never in her life had she been able to just go some place and purchase a new wardrobe. In all honesty, she had never really been on a shopping spree in general. The closest she had ever had to a real shopping spree was purchasing 1 whole bolt of cloth in one go. It had been a very practical purchase.

As she knelt down to pick up a lacy brassiere, Yvette finally dared to ask the question "You mentioned you are a regular, so I was wondering if I could maybe get your name?"

"Becky left?" Jada looked scandalized. That was her Becky! Gone, out of state, without so much as a goodbye. She clucked her tongue. "Well, I wish her luck." it was redundant to be saying such a thing to the other girl, who may or may not have known her. The heiress genuinely wasn't looking as poor Yvette stumbled along after her, grabbing at the clothing she was haphazardly tossing in her direction.

Entitled. It was the aura Jada gave off in spades when she shopped. Customer Service was something she'd never had to learn. Item to item she floated thoughtlessly. "My name is Jada." she answered the other girl's quiet question almost absently. Then she paused, turning around. Yvette was buried under a pile of discarded clothing and underwear. And for the first moment in a shopping experience, Jada felt guilty. It was odd. She paused, glancing at the racks she'd yet to peruse.

"So will you be working on a set schedule?" if this girl was going to be the new Becky, she may as well get to know her a little bit. Jada moved over, setting the few items that she knew she would be purchasing down on the counter, where they were swept up by a mildly familiar face and deposited on a counter against the back wall as if it were a ritual- which, in a sense, it was.

The players were just changing. Jada turned back to the store, pursing her lips. "So, what is it like to work customer service?" she started pulling more items off the racks. Just a few more items and she would be done.

A blouse, a tank top, and another brassiere later, Yvette had managed to catch up with all the clothing which had been tossed aside. With a relatively nice pile of clothing that was rather well organized thanks to her meticulous folding, she scuttled up to a counter behind the dressing room counter and set the whole pile down carefully. Of course, even after setting the clothing down, the girl couldn't help but straighten out a few corners so that the clothing could get the least amount of wrinkles possible.

If there was one thing the girl was particular about, it was maintenance of clothing. Having sewn so many outfits of her own, she had a pretty deep respect for the outfits which were usually tossed onto hangers in a department store. Taking good care of clothing was just one of those skills the quiet girl had picked up thanks to her hobby.

As she rounded back out from the dressing room counter, she nodded her head in Jada's direction. "It is nice to meet you, Jada!" She offered a genuine, but small smile. There were questions tossed in her direction, and despite how shy she was, she still attempted to answer as best as she could. Yvette just hoped that she didn't say anything wrong.

"I... um... I start work right after school on weekdays, and I work mornings on Saturdays and Sundays." She could have easily said "weekends," but some people assumed weekends meant one day or the other, not both. "To be honest, it is pretty different, but I really don't have anything to compare it to." Ah, the joys of the infamous "first job." With a slight sigh and a small chuckle, she attempted to laugh the whole thing off. "To be honest, this wasn't my first choice for a job, but it was a bit of an emergency for me to get a job as soon as possible."

Her eyes glanced about, as if checking to see if anyone was watching or listening in to their conversation. Seeming satisfied with the lacking presence of a certain boss, she then added "I think I only got this job because Mrs. Ortiga is my Mommy's friend."
