Pottery -- This is kind of an odd hobby for someone who would otherwise prefer to stay neat and clean, thank you very much. But Elena finds the near-monotony (it takes more attention than one might think) soothing. Sitting and working a pottery wheel is about as close to meditation as Elena likes to get. She's a fair hand at it, managing to turn out vases and pots that look like they're supposed to. She doesn't tend to keep anything; unless it turns out extremely well, the clay is simply crumpled back into a ball and kept ready.

Astronomy -- Elena is jealous of the stars, you see. They're all so very distant and while people insist on thinking that somehow they influence things down here, well. Why would they bother? What could be so fascinating about people here? Elena enjoys stargazing and has fun making up her own constellations. While she is more likely to go at this as a solo activity, it might be...nice to have someone else around who can pick out stars and constellations with her. Maybe

Costume Design -- It can be very hard to find properly constructed dresses these days. Luckily, Elena (who doesn't sew) is perfectly capable of sketching out and explaining exactly what she wants for her clothing. And she's quite fortunate to have a tailor/seamstress who puts up with this sort of thing. After expressing her disapproval of the costuming at a school play in junior high, Elena has been dragooned into helping with design for the productions, whatever they may be. While she might protest being 'forced' to help, she continues to volunteer for it, year after year.

Virtues: Efficient, Ambitious, Clear-headed, Puppet Persuasive

Efficient -- Elena believes that tasks should be accomplished with a minimum of effort. She might cut a few corners, but the results are good enough for her. She'll never cut enough corners to deliver shoddy anything; it might not be the best, but she does have a good work-ethic and some standards. There are just some unnecessary steps in nearly every project, and Elena has an eye for finding them.

Ambitious -- While Elena might not always respect people in positions of authority, she tends to respect the institution or office. She wants to be Someone In Charge, someone that other people have to listen to, and applies herself to studying any leaders she finds herself around. As such, Elena has a fairly firm idea of what a 'good leader' is like, and will follow those who fit certain criteria better than those who do not.

Clear-headed -- Keeping yourself apart from everyone else means you'll end up with a more objective view of the world. At least, that's the theory that Elena operates under. Not getting involved emotionally leaves her free from most messy entanglements and complications, allowing her to think about things in a more practical and logical fashion. Elena rarely finds herself bothered by anyone or anything, something that has occasionally proven useful in school.

Persuasive -- What better way to get something done than to convince someone else to do it? Elena is good at making promises (surpsingly, she almost always follows through) and finding out what people want, in order to get them to do what she wants. She's essentially a manager - capable of assigning tasks and delegating, but largely content to do little work herself.

Flaws: Lazy, Back-stabber, Elitist, Distant

Lazy -- Ugh, who wants to work? Elena's fairly good at reducing the amount of work she has to do, but occasionally ends up spending more time creating a 'better way' than simply doing the task would take.

Back-stabber -- The climb to the top might be easier with a team or a group, but when it comes time to hand out rewards, Elena intends to make sure she's the one getting most of the attention. If it will gain her an advantage in the long run, she certainly won't hesitate (maybe for a moment while she thinks it through) to desert her erstwhile allies for something better.

Elitist -- Elena only hangs around the Right Sort Of People - this means that anyone she associates with must be that kind of person, or why else would she be around them? Everyone else, especially those she's 'discarded', are entirely beneath her notice and really should just go away. Like right now.

Distant -- Elena doesn't get too attached to anyone or anything, preferring to keep just about everyone at arm's length. She'll pretend to be interested in whatever's going on in your suffocatingly dull life as long as she needs something from you, but secretly she just Does Not Give A Damn. Never getting involved too deeply in any one project or, well, anything really, Elena is very hands off. Provided she was the one handing out assignments in a group, once that's done, she'll pretty much ignore you - as long as everything's going smoothly, why worry about the details?

Hair: Very dark blue, mid back length. Single french braid, or loose. No bangs.

Face: Typically a very serious expression - or one that's slightly mocking. Slightly angular features, gives her a bit of an elfin look.

Body: Starting to fill out her curves.

Fashion: Dresses, skirts, NEVER PANTS OR SHORTS, prefers long dresses/skirts, but can tolerate a short one...sometimes. A bit bohemian, likes bangles and jewelry, scarves and layers. Flip side, she enjoys what most people would call Ren Faire garb, of the princess variety.

Geraldine Pellerin: Elena's mother. A distant figure in Elena's life, since Geraldine has devoted herself to her career: research scientist. She's worked for various high-tech companies over her career and is currently away from her family, attached to a top secret government project.

Sean Pellerin: Elena's father. He's been much more involved in the lives of his children than their mother, and Elena feels much closer to him as a result. He's a kindergarten teacher who doesn't mind moving around whenever his wife's job requires it.

Anne (14): One of Elena's sisters. They have a fairly heated rivalry between them and don't often get along. Anne is very tom-boyish and dismisses Elena's notions of proper behavior as outdated.
Melissa (10): Elena's youngest sister. Often found trailing around after whichever of the older girls was willing to tolerate her at the moment. Occasionally a bit of a crybaby and spoiled brat.
Neil (7): The youngest child and only boy. Huge tattle-tale, which earns him no points with his older siblings, who think he gets unfairly spoiled in comparison to them.
