Serandite was sick. Sick and tired of nightmares. Her head was in her hands, the pink-haired captain was leaning over, head slumped down, over a railing. She was on a rooftop, eyes closed, a giant sigh escaped her lips. Her hands covered her forehead in an obviously sickened manner. The captain was looking far messier than usual-- not to say she looked bad. No, Serandite never looked bad, as far as she was concerned.
She just wasn't looking her best. Who did? Rings circled under her eyes-- an uncharacteristic feature because Serandite valued sleep. She usually did. But at this moment, she never wanted to sleep again. The nightmares never ceased. They simply became worse and worse to the extent of exhaustion. They never ended.
She had a bottle of pills in one hand. Caffeine pills. How she hated taking medicine, the drugs made one's body artificially better and the temptation it held to overdose or abuse-- Well, Serandite hated medicine in general. Medicine was an evil agent from hell. Humans shouldn't rely on fake pills for selfish needs. There was a reason why the body created itself the way it was and she saw no need to change that. Why she considered taking it was a sign of desperation to keep awake.
"Ughh." She gritted her teeth in frustration, hand tipped to drop the bottle of pills uselessly to the ground, the sound of soft plastic hitting light cement was deafening in her ears. She so badly wanted a good night of sleep but that simply wasn't possible.

"Littering is a crime too, you know."
Sailor Pegasus stood a few feet behind the sunrise-haired Captain, her hands clasped loosely behind her back in a semi-relaxed pose. White heels that had once been ballet flats still rested in the perpendicular pose, ready to move if Serandite tried anything funny, but the Super Senshi suspected that wasn't what was in store for tonight. It was the little things that tipped her off: the bent head, the sleeve hanging just slightly off her shoulder, even the bottle slipping through her fingers. She didn't LOOK particularly threatening, but then again, Serandite never really did. It was hard to be scared of a lieutenant whose weapon was a stuffed rabbit. That was, until you were on the losing end of one of the rabbit's punches.
Now that she thought about it, that bunny looked slightly bigger than she remembered...
Curling and uncurling the fingers still loosely held behind her back, the strawberry blonde tilted her head a little to the side, blue-green eyes fixed unblinkingly on the other girl. "Scouting for starseeds, I assume?" she continued after a relatively long pause, a little bite to her tone, keeping up the traditional senshi-negaverse venom, "But I'm hoping that answer is no."

"Only if you're caught." The curt reply from Serandite answered automatically, even before she turned around to see the senshi. She recognized the voice-- Distinctive to the dream senshi. Nobody else came close to that disobliging personality that seemed to shine in only a few words uttered by the scout. She turned slowly, hands leaning on the railing, back against it in a posture of relaxation. The can of pills was left there, half open, carelessly spilled. Sleeping pills.
She couldn't place it. Why the senshi looked different from the last time. Perhaps it was the bow that did it? It was bigger than she remembered. But Serandite's bow was bigger as well. Screw that. Serandite's bow would win, hands down.
She returned Pegasus's unblinking stare with a brown ones of her own, shoulders tensed. Normally, she jumped at the mere chance of fighting Pegasus once more. But there were things to discuss. Her body was also sluggish and fatigued-- in no condition to win a battle or to even focus on the battle. A sure defeat. Captains don't get defeated. Serandite figured if there was no battle, there was no defeat. Loophole. Ha.
Her shoulders relaxed. "I'll indulge in your hopes for once." She returned Pegasus's biting tone with a cheerful one, flashing a smile at Pegasus. "What, your staight-laced personality still has the heart to let a negaverse agent like me go because I'm not after starseeds?" Surprise laced her tone, eyes skeptically scanning Pegasus's relaxed form. She doubted it.. but could Pegasus be mirroring Serandite's circumstances?

Pegasus smiled just the hint of a smile, the corners of her lips turning up in ironic amusement. "What would I do? Kill you?" she replied calmly, wondering if Serandite's tone was suppose to be a jab at her. The ironic part was, given half the chance, any one of the negaverse would steal her starseed, no matter what the situation. If they knew her identity, they'd be there in a heartbeat, ready to manipulate and blackmail and potentially slaughter her entire family as well as herself, just because of the power she possessed and the opposition she supported.
Still, the girl didn't seem like she was going to throw a sneak attack. She had tensed, but beyond that she seemed relaxed enough, both of them wary of the other. An appropriate relationship. Especially after their... well, her... nightmare. Serandite had grabbed her hand, had made her run when she could have left her there and just fled herself. Pegasus had spent many hours puzzling over it, bewildered as to why she had helped a senshi such as herself.
Still, she felt it was almost an unspoken rule not to speak of it.
"You seem to retain at least a fraction of humanity, through it all... I doubt I could kill you for standing there," she continued after a moment, her eyes flickering down towards the bottle again, making no mention of it but giving the Captain a silent, questioning look, nearly as vocal as if she had asked her plainly what it was all about.

"Sleeping pills." Serandite answered, as if was common fact, fingers lightly touching the rings under her sleep-deprived eyes. She yawned, hands covering her mouth politely, leaning against the railing, eyes closed. But only for a moment, jerked by the reminder that she was not going to fall asleep. Eyes blinked straight open, alertness struggling to overtake drowsiness.
"Nightmares." She answered the question that followed, vivid memories replaying over and over in her head. Brown eyes blinked heavily, a finger twirling a lock of pink-yellow hair in a curl as she spoke. Twirl, twirl, twirl.
"I'm human enough to have nightmares."
There was a moment of heavy silence after that question. Apparently, Pegasus's words hadn't passed without impact. There was no note of cheer or glee in that flat line-- Serandite's face turned guarded. It was as if she let her guard down for only a moment-- a sinister evil might take the chance to invade. Ironic, considering that the negaverse was evil.

Pegasus' eyebrows lifted a little with the answer, glancing back down at the bottle then back up to Serandite's face, noting the rings as she touched below her eyes. She also took note of how those eyes drooped slightly as the negaverse agent leaned against the railing, eyebrows furrowing in curious interest, especially as she jerked awake. No, it didn't seem the Captain would be stealing any starseeds, at least not tonight. She looked exhausted. Even more curious was what Serandite could be having nightmares about. To a senshi, the worst thing that could happen would be to lose your family, your friends, and everything you loved to the negaverse. To fail everyone. Perhaps it wasn't so different for the other side.
"Would you believe the Senshi of Dreams can have nightmares?" She said after a moment, murmured under her breath as if the comment were meant more for herself than the other, "Sometimes I hate irony."
Taking a few cautious steps forward, Pegasus moved to lean against the railing as well, a good few feet away but close enough to have a more conversational sense. Paranoia kept you alive, in this world. Still, she wondered if Serandite really was completely devoted to the 'side of evil,' after everything they'd been through. Everything she did and said seemed to suggest different. It was enough to plant a seed of doubt, one that the senshi, despite her profuse antisocial attitude, could not help cultivate. Perhaps it was because she almost liked the sunrise-haired girl.
But that would be silly, right?
"What are they of?" she asked after a moment, her eyes focused on the other girl, wary but much less so than before.

"You? Having nightmares?" Serandite looked at Pegasus with visible surprise. While it wasn't outside the realm of possibility, it certainly was ironic. Serandite supposed that having a sphere of dreams didn't mix well with nightmares.
She was trying to consider what sort of nightmares Pegasus might have when the question was directed towards her-- a blank face stole her expression for the moment and then a pause. It wasn't as if she was revealing information to her. A simple conversation between two opposing sides. A conversation that shouldn't be happening. The only reason that Serandite stood there passively now was the mutual sense of friendship between the two. The friendship that should have been non-existent-- a friendship that both would have denied immediately.
Both seemed to come to an unspoken truce for the moment. It was a surreal moment-- both putting aside their grudges for the moment, lowering their wary guard of each other. Both of them probably noticed this-- Serandite would look back on this moment with a fond reluctance.
"Everything. Anything. Enough to make any normal person never want to sleep-- or drive themselves to suicide." Serandite answered, the implication underlying under the sentence was clear. Neither the negaverse nor the senshi side could be considered as a normality. "I bet it would make your job far more easier if I drove myself to suicide. But it'd be a shame if I missed out on the fun that's in store for both of us in the future." Serandite made an effort at lifting the heavy atmosphere, flashing a sincere grin at Pegasus's direction. No false pretenses-- just Serah shining through.

"I'd miss your fashion sense," she replied, just slightly sarcastic, but with none of the malice she might have shown another negaverser. In fact, it was almost a friendly teasing, as much as Pegasus was capable of, which tended towards being rather dry anyway. The realization took her a little by surprise, the strawberry blonde girl jerking a bit as it hit her, a cold feeling spreading from her solar plexus. As if by reflex, her eyes drifted a little from the other girl, settling on the dimly lit city below, expression a little more steeled than it had been before.
What did you say to your enemy, though? Even more conflicting, what did you say to your enemy who, under different circumstances, could have potentially been your friend? Or might actually be your friend. Under the guise of senshihood and negaverse agent, anyone could be anyone else. What was morally right? Serenity, as Helios had told her times before, had been a kind-hearted, merciful princess... and yet at the same time, Serandite was no angel. She had no doubt that the petite girl had stolen her fair share of starseeds, and as a result, innocent lives.
In the back of her mind, Helios' presence felt a little more prominent than usual, like the gentle touch of a hand against her shoulder. It seemed the Dream Priest's interest had been piqued.
"Dreams are funny things..." she said after a time, chancing a glance back at Serandite, slightly more guarded than before.

Serandite chuckled, regarding Pegasus as something more than a potential target for the first time in their encounters. Pegasus, along with a few others, was possibly the only exception to the flock of naive clueless senshi running around in the city. "I thought you might miss my great personality. Man, I thought wrong." Serandite replied back in sarcastic jest, fingers sliding over the railing before relaxing, head on folded hands, gazing out to the lights of the city. She and Pegasus were two sides of the same coin-- both people with completely different sides.
"Dreams are funny things..."
".. Funny things. Huh." it seemed as if Serandite might have left the statement like that, silence overtaking the next moment. But she didn't. Serandite's eyes were still focused on the city, only briefly taking notice of Pegasus's guarded features.
"It's funny when you're being chased by a giant bunny. It's not everyday that a sailor scout and a negaverse agent are completely helpless against a giant 30-foot bunny of doom. Ever had a dream like that.. Pegasus?" Serandite posed the unspoken encounter as a coy question, eyebrows raised, an amused smile curving over her face. Pink-yellow curls fell over her shoulder, one hand lifting to gather her long hair to one side, fingering the soft locks in idle curiosity as she waited for Pegasus's answer.
No doubt, it would be amusing, no matter what way she said it.
