"Iiiiiiiiiiiii doooooooooooooon't waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant tooooooooooooooooo." Eolande whined as she trudged herself out of the girls locker room and out into the school gymnasium. Her lips were turned downwards into such a pout that she had been referred to teasingly to a particular fairy from a kids book. Well. That just went to show them. It wasn't so much a childs book as people thought. ***** and dismemberment and psychopaths abounded in that story! Eolande lifted her blue eyes to watch the massing of children in the center. "Dodgeball is a useless barbaric bail out." She grumbled just a bit more softly. "Sadistic evil PE' teachers. Can't we just run track or something less bruising?" No one was listening to her of course. Why would they? She was just one more weakling target for all the bullies in the class to pummel on.
Eolande tugged her shirt down a bit towards her knees and glanced about as captains were chosen to pick sides. This was not fair. She hardly knew anyone yet. That meant if she was picked first the guy, cause she knew it would be a guy, would be hoping for a bit of something in return surely. More then likely she'd be picked last because no one knew who she was. "Can I opt out if I have cramps? I suddenly feel my period coming on..."

Skylar loved PE. It was the one class where she didn't have to actively think about staying in her seat. She'd gotten better with that over the years for sure, talking to the counselors at school and working with her therapist to notice her out of place behavior and work against it. So long as she took her medication, she was fine and could regulate herself. That wasn't the case as a child, which was what landed her in Applereach, but she was comfortable and relatively stable in class now. PE, though, was a different story. During PE, she was allowed and expected to be up and moving around, to be loud and bouncy. It let her act how she wanted to act.
Naturally bouncy, she bounded out of the locker room into the gym, excited for today's game: dodgeball. She and several of her classmates were excited for it. Known to be athletic, she was one of the first chosen. She jogged over to join the captain of her team, looking at the rest of her classmates with a bright smile on her face, waiting to see who else would be chosen for her team. At least the teacher hadn't split them up into boys and girls. That never ended well.

Tobias glared at the other teenagers who milled around him, hyped about the upcoming game. One of the captains was pointing at the bouncy girl that irritated him to no end. She was too...out of control at times and was disruptive. He had no patience for her.
The other captain pointed at him and he grudgingly made his way over to his team. He eyed the others on his side and sighed. He hated aggressive games, it made him work harder to not get hurt then it would be if he went all out. He didn't care about injuries, he had enough scars to prove that, but it didn't mean his councilor liked it or that mentality. So he had no get out of gym pass and no excuse to not give it his best, within reason of course.

Eolande watched as students were picked. This was such a humiliating means of forming sides. It all came down to how popular you were or how good you were at the game. The first picks were always the best of friends, making sure they did not have to battle each other. As if that would be a bad thing and the world would end. Sometimes a little challenge between friends was healthy after all. Then all the jocks got picked. If you were good at sports you were picked according to how good people thought you were. The rest of them? They were all just filler bits. Bodies to be aimed at and whacked. Eolande sighed as the crowd thinned and the sides filled. Eventually she was pointed to, and she trudged over to one side. Her head lifted and she glanced around at the group she was with. Well..she wasn't the last one picked. The captain was going to regret picking her soon enough she was sure. She couldn't throw a dime into a fountain, much less a ball at another person! Well...maybe she could catch. She knew she could dodge at least. As the last of the kids were picked, Eolande moved to the back of her teams side. Her blue eyes darted about and a wrinkle formed around her nose. "This is totally barbaric...and lazy. A cheap cop out on the teachers part to pass for a class. "

"More like free entertainment for the teacher as we all try to kill each other." Tobias said, having overheard the messy hair girls griping as she moved over to stand near him. He felt naked in his gym uniform, with all of his scars on display. If anything it added an element of horror which always gave people a pause.
He blew his bangs out of his heterochromic eyes, irritated, the little white plastic headband he'd bought for class never seemed to do anything to keep his bangs out of his eyes. If anything it made him look girly. Not like anyone with an ounce of braincells would comment on it. He'd been told before that he looked like he would bite a persons face off if they pissed him off.

"What the Hell, man; dodgeball is for back when we had recess." Marlon grumbled to himself as he had marched out into the gymnasium with the other students. He hated the stupid gym clothes that revealed too much skin and made him feel like he ought to have muscles and sleek tanned skin. What was worse was that the gym teacher had made him remove his hat. His whole head felt exposed and naked, and the hair that was usually concealed beneath it stood out in an odd way. As if he wouldn't already stand out.
Still, he did see a few other students more out of place than he was; one had an awful lot of scars, and another was jumping around as thought Christmas had come early. He didn't realize that Eolande was there until he was walking over to moodily join his teammates, on the same side as the bouncy, happy girl. His eyes widened and he ventured a small wave when he thought her gaze might be around where he was.

Skylar watched as her classmates got picked onto teams, wondering why they seemed so glum. She looked at each one as her eyes scanned the room. Only a select few seemed to be excited about this game aside from herself. But then, she was always excited for sports. It was one thing she had never had to try at. it just came naturally to her.
"Alright, the team on the right will grab jerseys from the baskets, team on the left will have no jerseys," the gym teacher called to them from the sidelines. He leaned against the wall, the ball in hand. He had no intention of actually making any rules for this game. It would be a free for all, making his life that much easier.
With a sigh, Skylar went with her teammates to grab a jersey. That was the one thing she disliked about PE: the ugly jerseys they had to wear. The uniform was fine. Short shorts and a t-shirt, not a big deal. They all had to wear the same thing anyway, so she didn't mind. It did create the need for some way to tell them apart though, hence the over-sized mesh jerseys in various colors. She managed to grab a blue one and pulled it on over her head before standing around fussing with it while everyone else got ready for the game, most of them begrudgingly.

"By the time this game is over I am sure I am going to wish I was dead." Eolande spoke to Tobi as she shifted nervously from foot to foot. Her eyes moved over the bare skin of the other boy. She saw no reason to hide the fact she was looking at all the scars covering him. How disturbing they looked! "Wow..." She finally found herself saying for a real lack of anything else to say. "I suppose that was a fairly tactless thing to say...you look like you nearly were killed for real."
Eolande glanced up and tried to smile a little. "Well. At least we don't have to wear the jerseys..." She paused as Marlon's waving caught her eye. Lifting her hand, she pointed off towards him. "You hit me with a ball Marlon and I'll be making Tofu burgers for your lunch the rest of this week! With wheat-grass juice!"

"Trust me, dying would be worse then getting pelted by flying balls." Came Tobias's dry reply. He raised his arms above his head and stretched backwards, feeling his spine and shoulders pop. He rolls his shoulders to loosen the muscles as he listened to the gym teacher speak. Or shout rather, since the noise level barely dropped when the man opened his mouth.
Tobias glanced at Eolande when she drew his attention back to her with a word of surprise, and twitched slightly as she pointed out his scars. "You could say that. I was in a bad car accident when I was little, the only survivor out of three cars."
He followed the direction the girl was pointing in, and got a name to go with the face. Marlon. He was blond and pale skinned, far paler then he himself was. Was he Nordic? Did Tobias really care to find out? Not really. He looked away as the girl threatened the other with vegetarian food if he threw a ball at her. In an odd way it was amusing. But he didn't let the amusement show on his face. Heavens knew what would happen if he showed any hint of wanting to be social with people.

With an audible groan, Marlon walked over with Skylar to where the jerseys were kept. He toyed with the idea of just wrapping the jersey around his head and making that his temporary hat, but then he would probably become everyone's favorite target for prolonging the class. He grabbed a red one that looked as though someone might have gotten a nosebleed on it at one time and they had tried to hide it within the color, and looked over at Eolande in a mock-forlorn way.
But as Eolande's words reached his ears, his jaw dropped open in surprise. "Hey!" He felt himself smile in spite of himself as he eyed the pile of red balls off to the side, even gauging which one was the closest to him so that he could get to it quickly. "You'd better run fast then, Eolande!" He knew deep down that he probably wouldn't hit her, but he hoped that she knew that it was just playful banter.

Skylar moved back to the center of the gym once she was done fussing with her jersey. It still bothered her but she tried to ignore it for now. They were about to play and that was far more important. Her eyes were all over the room and she was beginning to get fidgety with her excitement. Even those who liked the game were starting to giver her looks for how bouncy she was becoming.
"Begin!" The shout was followed by the shriek of whistle and the first of the balls being tossed into the maw. Someone caught it and the game began, the teacher's ball now on the court while the others were quickly getting scooped up and tossed around.
Skylar dodged several balls with ease before she managed to catch one at last. She grinned as she finally got her chance to knock another player out of the game for the round. She caught sight of a non-jersey through an opening between two of her own teammates. It was the girl who had been complaining in the locker room that everyone seemed to avoid or ignore. Skylar thought that her name was Eolande but she wasn't sure. She made her move, jumping into the air to give herself a better shot. She let the ball fly as she came down from the peak of her jump.

Chaos erupted at the sound of a whistle. Eolande eyed the balls for a moment. Maybe if she tossed a easy catch into the mix, her ball would get caught and she'd get out of the game easily. Still...she couldn't help but smile at Marlon. "I am warning you Marlon! I'll include celery for dessert!" She really could not help but grin a bit at her friend as she lost sight of him temporarily in the movement of bodies.
She preferred to stay near the back, where she would be less likely to be tripped onto or targeted right away. In doing so she was able to reply to Tobias' explanation of his scars. "Three? That had to have been a really nasty accident. You were lucky in a way to live..." Eolande paused, and tilted her head as she caught in the corner of her eye a girl leaping upwards and looking at her.
"Ack!" The sound came as an automatic response, and she darted for the best form of defense she could think of at the moment...behind Tobias. "That girl is bouncing higher then the balls!"

He silently agreed with Eolande's earlier comment about not having to wear jerseys as he shifted out of the way of an incoming ball. He heard a woosh of air behind him and a groan of pain, whoever had been where he'd been standing just moments before had just been knocked out of the game. Pity.
"My councilor says the same thing, about me being lucky to be alive." He replied, continuing the conversation as if they weren't in the middle of a violent game. He felt the girl slide behind him, using him as a human shield. How intelligent. People wouldn't be aiming for him all the time, seeing as how they would be picking off the weaker ones first, the shortest and the slowest.
He reached out and snatched a ball from the air as he traveled past the side of his head and threw it back. The shot missed but that was alright, there was plenty more chances to hit someone. "That bouncy girl is Skylar, she sometimes sits with me in therapy. I think she has ADHD or some form of it." He muttered, practically throwing himself out of range of another ball. He sucked in his gut and narrowly missed getting hit by another ball. What was it with gym teachers and watching their students get pelted with over inflated basket balls?

Making a dive for one of the balls tossed into the fray as soon as the signal was given, Marlon felt his hands close around one and clung to it for dear life, even as he felt the flailing hands of another student trying to grab the same ball. Yanking it away, he looked around for Eolande, finally spotting her right as she threatened to make him a dessert out of celery.
Laughing in spite of himself, Marlon tried to surge toward Eolande, ducking as a dodgeball flew past his head and barely missed his ear. He finally was able to reach Eolande, but instead of pelting her with the ball, he leaned in as close as he could to half-whisper, half-speak. "Hey, what's say we gather a few people up and just go kamikaze on everyone? Forget these stupid jerseys and teams and just whomp everybody else? It would really stir things up and stick it to these bunch of sadists who call themselves teachers."
