Maikeru was sitting crosslegged on a branch about 25 feet in the air reading a new book on his Shinigami E-Reader. The area for miles around was densely wooded and only small stray beams of sunlight managed to penetrate the leaves. A very distant stream could be heard gurgling over some rocks and a soft wind stirred the humid dark air. The ground was soft and spongy from a recent rain and the air smelled of it(the rain), pine, and hickory.
Maikeru's head lifted up as he heard a stick crack thinking it was Zaine, the one who he heard was a friend of Kasen's and might train him in Shikai. When noone appeared he lowered his nose back into the 'book'.

"So you are Maikeru eh? Evil didn't tell me you were a bookworm when she asked me to train ya." Zaine's amused voice said in Maikeru's ear, the Sixth seat hung upside down from a treebranch that was above the unseated shinigami's head. "So you are the trainee eh?"

"Tavi," Max said, panting, "you need to see this. I've had them bring your horse." Maikeru read, he'd just gotten his mind absorbed back into the book and it was rising to a climactic moment. ...They drew near the central watering pool within a moment, and found dozens of Alerans there, mixed in among the Canim to gather around the pool. Tavi saw why, and sucked in a breath through his teeth. No wonder everyone had come to stare. A cloaked form stood upon the surface of the water. The cloak was made of rich, grey fabric with a deep hood. Tavi couldn't see any of the features of whoever was beneath the cloak, except for dark lips and a pale, delicate chin. His heart lurched in his chest, even so. It was the Vord queen! Maikeru somehow managed to jump half a foot into the air from his perch on the branch when he heard Zaine's voice. He smacked his head on something hard and tumbled from the branch. The Shinigami E-Reader fell to the forest floor quickly followed by Maikeru.
He hit the ground with a roll to lessen the impact and came up facing the tree with a long dagger in each hand.
"Owwwwww! Yes, I'm the new trainee, what do I look like? A Bount?" Maikeru sheathed the daggers and rubbed the rising bump on his head, "Again, Owwwww."

"That is a weak comeback my young student." Zaine said dryly, "You can't really tell a bount from anyone by look alone, are you sure you managed to pass the Academy?" he taunted, suddenly leaping down and launching an guillotine esque kick down on the trainee, "Never sheath your weapons around an opponent! If you still can't recoginize this simple fact what hope have you to gain Shikai?" He shouted as he descended.

"You may not be able to tell by look alone. But it is simple enough to expect a seated officer to have enough Reiryoku sense to know the difference." Maikeru smiled mischieviously as he pulled out his zanpakutou. Holding it with both hands the katana blade pointing vertically at the ground, the knife blade on the end of the hilt would stab deeply into Zaine's kicking leg's calf. Maikeru shrugged slightly so as not to disturb his stance to much if Zaine did something unnexpected. "I have more than one weapon, I figured as this was Shikai training I should primarily use my sword." Maikeru braced for the impact with Zaine.

"You actually think that this is gonna be that easy? You won't even get a scratch on me if you are that simpleminded." he said with a sneer, pointing down at the young shinigami Zaine grinned, "Hado #1 Sho!" he chanted, sending a pushing force bursting from his hand which would slam down on Maikeru if the kid didn't figure anything out to evade, and it would send Zaine hurtling back into the air and onto another branch. "Now are you sure you want to train for shikai? I will be coming at you for real from now on, and if you are too weak, I will kill you."

"Easy?!? Not at all." Maikeru shoved his Zanpakutou into the ground, and pushed against it and the ground sending him flying backwards into a bush. Only a moment later at about the time Zaine would be landing back on the branch a flurry of small shiny knives streaked towards Zaine. As the five knives shot unneringly at their target Maikeru burst from the bush, a comical sight considering the dirt and leaves now adorning him. He followed close behind the knives grabbing his sword on the way past and JUMPED. Coming from above with a powerful downward slash as his knives struck at Zaine.
In the moments during the subsequent sprint, jump, and slash, Maikeru calmly stated, "Please, I was still surprised about what happened in the book. You now have my full and undivided attention."

"You are still too slow and inexperienced kid." Zaine stated plainly, bringing his left hand up he pointed at the falling form of Maikeru, "Hado #1 Sho." he repeated the spell with a bored expression, following up he leapt back to another branch due to the fact he weakened the one he had been standing on with a subtle reiatsu strike.

Maikeru was blown back by the kido and thrown high into another tree, two branches caught him beneath the armpits preventing his fall. "Inexperienced I'll give you, slow? Please, I may not run very quickly but my hands have more than sufficient speed."
Maikeru dropped to a lower branch balancing on it quickly with both feet and drew a heavy parrying dagger in his off-hand. Jerking his head to the left and right popping it multiple times he said, "Alritey then, lets try this again!" With that he proceeded jumping from branch to branch, constantly changing his course so he wouldn't be caught by another ranged attack. As he made his way to Zaine his mouth quirked into a smirk at a funny prank he could pull if the situation called for it.

"For a snail, maybe." Zaine stated back sharply, easily tracking Maikeru's movements and grinning at the transparency of his tactic, "Good god how much experience do you have in a real fight?" he asked, astonished at the self assurance the shinigami felt in skills that were barely at or above unseated level, "You really should tone down that arrogance till ya have the skill to back it my friend." he said with a smirk, as the shinigami began his attack Zaine stepped off his branch with a wave to Maikeru, plummeting down to the ground, or so it seem that is, half way down he caught his legs on a branch and crouched down, splaying out his right hand he lifted it up towards Maikeru's posistion and summoned five Wind Wakers to each fingertip, "Kid if you don't pick up the pace I will kill you for real, show me why you think you deserve this training or pay the price." he said coldly, sending the powerful attacks simulatainously flying at the shinigami student at breathtaking speed.
((Most of this is just Zaine's personality as a teacher, no hard feelings lol))

Right as Maikeru was about to slash Zaine open from head to toe he dropped from the branch. Maikeru shot past Zaine's prior position with all his momentum. He hit the trunk of a tree a head of him and arrested his momentum, crouching down on the vertical surface of the tree, then before gravity took hold or the wind wakers did their work, he shoved off again this time at a downward angle, passing underneathe the windwakers, feeling the wind of their passing ruffle his hair and clothing. As he rocketed toward Zaine he held his zanapakutou as if he was going to run him through with it and said, "Even snails move quickly in the air." As he drew within range he arubtly drove the dagger into a tree trunk swinging around at an extremely high velocity, his knee aimed for Zaine's gut.

"You must have the brains of a snail too, a head on attack like that is never gonna work on me." he said dryly, dropping again and evading Maikeru's attack with ease. "You know, this is starting to get boring." he said with a yawn, kicking off the trunk of the tree and flying towards another, while doing so he span in the air and pointed that the base of the tree he had just left and muttered, "Hado #4, Byakurai!" a powerful bolt of lightning shot from his finger and with a mighty crack the tree began to fall, if Maikeru wasn't clever he would end up in some pain for sure.

"Boring?!?!? Are you kidding me? It's been awhile since someone has dodged my attacks this often!" Maikeru let go of the dagger, still wedged in the tree. "But if you insist on running away every time, I gues I'll attempt this 'head off attack' you speak of." Maikeru's feet hit the underside of the falling tree and he scrambled to the other side, where he rode the forest behemoth to the ground. The falling tree threw debris and dust everywhere in the air completely obscuring sight. Maikeru masked his reiatsu as best as he could and dashed into the undergrowth. If Zaine had very keen reiatsu sense he would be able to pick out Maikeru's location, otherwise only a very general location could be divined from the amount Maikeru couldn't mask.
