So, I was on another message board browsing the threads there when I came across this little gem: Paganspace: Pagans Follow False GodsIts OP is about a radio interview of a bias Christian writer who basically says that all pagan religions are wrong because they worship creation and not the Creator. That's not what I'm posting about. What I noticed in the thread was that everyone suddenly started jumping on and condemning, not only Christianity, but all the Abramatic religions. Here are just a few quotes: Quote: Christianity is the false religion. So is Judaism and Islam. They all came after paganism. Quote: The Abrahamic Religions are inherently intolerant and therefore should not be tolerated. In a pluralistic society they are poison. I, myself, have a bias against Christianity, but on this thread I found myself crusading in favor of Christianity along with all the other Abramatic faiths. I'm mostly just posting this thread here because they pissed me off over there and I need to blow off some steam. "I'm butt-hurt, hear me Bawww!" What do you think of this thread? Have you ever been faced with this kind of bigotry either IRL or online? What do you do when you come up against discrimination like this?

It seems like a Bwaa fest and bash Christians. Edit: Also Paganspace kinda annoys me. I went there just browsing and there was this strong sentiment that Christians couldn't be witches and that witchcraft was exclusively pagan.
Yeah irl but unfortunately I wasn't self-confident enough to stand up to it. I try to take a stand here on Gaia when I can now though since I'm becoming more informed regarding other religions.
I point out where their statements are misrepresentations of the religions in question, but generally I try to pick and choose my battles since some people are just hard headed and I'd feel like I'm wasting my time.

This pickled vegetable...I really need to learn how to pick and choose my battles better. Otherwise you just end-up feeding their persecution complexes. ... could kick your a** !!

Honestly, it's kind of a no win situation. You don't say anything, and they feel justified because "Nobody's saying anything, because they know I'm right." Or you can say something to them, and they fall back on the classics: "Yeah, well I know this one person who did this, so you're wrong!" "Stop trying to force your opinions on me!" "You're just proving my point by arguing with me!" etc. If I post, they frustrate me, but if I don't post, I'm still frustrated by their stupidity. *shakes head*

Renkon Root Have you ever been faced with this kind of bigotry either IRL or online? Indeed I have, and not just from religious people, or just on religious topics. Bigotry rears its ugly head everywhere. Renkon Root What do you do when you come up against discrimination like this? As I mentioned before, it tends to be a no win situation for the non-bigots. I mean, if there's actual discrimination going on then I try stop them, but the sad fact of the matter is that sometimes you just have to let small injustices go. However, if it's just people being rude and whining about other people, I try (key word: try) to just ignore them. I do have a future plan though. Hopefully within about 3 years, I'll be a teacher. Thus, I'll be in the perfect position to mold young, unsuspecting minds into fine upstanding citizens. Or, you know, damage them so much that they go on a killing rampage, but I'm really hoping for the first one . . . . .

The whole thing is a problem. Yes, I have a mild anti-Christian bias. That's because of personal experiences. I still try to take all peopl on an indiviual basis, regardless of thier religious or spiritual beliefs.
What these folks are doing is like chucking the baby with the bathwater. Just because I don't personally agree with the beliefs of those religions, doesn't mean that they have nothing to bring to the table. Just because some of the people who profess these faiths are narrowminded, ignorant jackholes, it doesn't mean that all who practice them are vile bigots who must be despised.
Also, the idea using intolerance to fight intolerance is utterly ridiculous.

CalledTheRaven Also, the idea using intolerance to fight intolerance is utterly ridiculous. This pickled vegetable...I agree. Its counter productive and immature. Its the kind of tactic I'd expect to see on an elemetary school play-yard, not a religious message board that you have to be 18 or older (you have to be an adult) to join. ... could kick your a** !!

lucid_mirror Honestly don't worry about it. Yes Monotheism came from dualism which came from polytheism which came from shamanism which came from animism. Some neo-pagans are complaining about the actions in the past (witch burnings being labeled heretics ect). Some christians are bigoted pricks declaring all polytheistic religions evil. People need to stop enforcing their beliefs and instead practice the teaching "love one another". Its as simple as being tolerant to others and being kind to others.

Most every religious debate (as in, which religion is the TRUTH!!11 TRUTH!!11!1@) is like that. People like that are kinda the reason I turned atheist.

rmcdra Edit: Also Paganspace kinda annoys me. I went there just browsing and there was this strong sentiment that Christians couldn't be witches and that witchcraft was exclusively pagan. This pickled vegetable...I actually came across a few threads that were saying just that. After I made I few posts explaining to them that witchcraft was a CRAFT and that anyone could do it, they in so many words basically told me I was wrong and needed to GTFO.
*shrug* I have decided that its just another internet haven for the willfully ignorant. ... could kick your a** !!

look at the Hindu-Muslim strife in India; there's mutual persecution there.
my people are Scots who came to the US by way of North Ireland; nasty history of Christian infighting there.
Roman Catholics persecuted Orthodox Catholics in the Slavic territories. Long ago, and more recently.
Mahayana Buddhists made abusive power arrangements with Chinese Rulers and attacked animists and others. I don't have a link for that last one but I have read it and can look it up, with some effort.
Many Jews just call the rest of us "goys" which isn't nice. The rules governing relations among God's people are not extended, by some of them, to the rest of us. I heard a rabbi lecture "The ten commandments are for the holy people only, not for everybody. So they are house rules. "Among us" you shall not kill, so war against others is all right."

I don't have a link for that last one but I have read it and can look it up, with some effort. I read this and became sad. The Buddha explicitly taught that compassion and loving kindness are very important morals and goals for a person. And here are people that ignore it in favor of indulging in their hate and bias. It's... just, wow. sad
