[OOC: I realize that Paloma is an adult now, but I've been meaning to RP this for some time and have only just now gotten around to it. So pretend with me.]

Paloma wanders down by the beach, as she does often. Having no parents or even any real friends, Paloma basically does what she pleases, when she pleases, without much reguard to anyone else.

However, ever since she'd met that Angelique...something felt like it was missing. Angelique had something called a mother. Someone who made her sandwiches and dried her off in a nice fluffy towel. Sure, Angelique's mother told her what she could and could not do occasionally. But wouldn't it be nice, thought Paloma, to have someone of her own to love and care for her? And so ever since she'd met Angelique, she'd been on a quest. A quest to find her mother.

Paloma stops when she sees a beautiful woman sitting near the surf. Alone. No children, so clearly she wasn't somebody else's mother. That would be awkward. She approaches the winged purple woman and taps her shoulder.

"Scuse me. Are you my mother?"

Iordanes had been deep in meditation, something he does often to keep himself somewhat sane. Being stuck in a woman's body was...difficult. Taxing, mentally and emotionally. Especially when he came across other people, which is why he mostly kept to himself. Being out on the beach early in the morning seemed to afford him the most solitude, so here he sits, letting the tide come in around him.

He jumps when he feels a tap at his shoulder and a small voice.

Are you my mother?

Oh dear. How would he explain to this....adorable little girl that not only wasn't he her mother, he wasn't actually a woman?

"Um..." His cheeks color red. "No, I'm not....does she look like me?"

"Oh," says Paloma, disappointed. Of course she wasn't her mother. She didn't even look like her! "No...I don't know what she looks like. I dunno if I even have a mother. Angelique told me that your mother is the one that bornded you, but I don't even remember being bornded." She shrugs sadly.

"Maybe you could be my mother anyways? I like you, you're pretty." She smiles hopefully, twirling a pigtail around her finger.

"Um..." repeats Iordanes. "Wait, if you haven't got a mother, then where do you sleep? How do you find enough to eat?"

He resists the urge to gather the little girl into his arms. Damn this female body anyway! Making him all squishy and feminine.

"Ummm, I sleep wherever I am when I'm tired, and there's lots of stuff to eat in the forest." She nods. "But Angelique's mother brought her sandwiches and I can't find them anywhere so I thought maybe my mother could help me. D'you want to be my mother?"

So what if this woman wasn't her mother. She was pretty, and she seemed nice, even though her eyes were sad. Maybe Paloma could make her happy!

The absurdity of this makes Iordanes giggle. Look for sandwiches? "Well, I'll help you look for some sandwiches," he answers. "What's your name, little sprite?" Come to think of it, if she didn't have a mother, would she have a name? "And how....how did you come by it?"

"I'm Paloma!" announces Paloma proudly. How'd she come by her name? "Ummm...I didn't really find my name. I just always knew. I'm Paloma." She nods sagely. "Can I just call you mother? Or do you have a name too?"

She tugs on her new mother's hand impatiently. Surely if she'd help her look for sandwiches, she was her mother.

Iordanes chuckles. "Alright, alright, I'm coming." He stands up. "My name is Iordanes." He bends down to pick up the tiny child, Paloma. What a beautiful name. There was no way the little girl had invented that name on her own. She must've been born knowing her name, like she'd said.

"Alright. Where should we start looking?"

"Ummm, I dunno," says Paloma, looking around. This new tall vantage gave her an excellent view. "You're the mother, you're s'posta know these things," she scolds.

She grabs onto Iordanes' neck as they begin to walk back up the beach, toward the road. "But maybe we'll find sandwiches in the town, where other people are."

"An excellent idea," agrees Iordanes. He situates Paloma on his round hip, and continues walking.

The pair walk around the city, 'looking' for sandwiches, until Iordanes gets legitimately hungry and stops into a restaurant.

"I remember now," says Iordanes, really getting into this game. "You get sandwiches from places like this. They're called restaurants. You can get all kinds of food from here if you pay for it. But don't worry," he adds hastily, seeing Paloma's worried expression. "I can pay today."

"Oh," says Paloma, looking around. "So this is where sandwiches come from. A sandwich place. Hey, where're we goin'?" she demands as her new mother starts walking somewhere, still holding Paloma.

"Oh," she says again as they sit down at a table. Shortly thereafter, a pretty lady in a pink apron comes by with a pad and pencil.

"What'll it be?" asks the lady.

"I want a sandwich!" answers Paloma proudly.

Iordanes laughs. "What kind of sandwich do you want?" he asks. "They have meat sandwiches, or meat and cheese sandwiches, or sandwiches that are just cheese but are warmed up."

"Your daughter's real cute," says the waitress, giving Iordanes a sisterly touch on the shoulder.

"Um, uh, thanks," he says stupidly.

"I wanna sandwich like Angelique's mother had. It was yummy. I think it had meat an' cheese on it." She looks up at the waitress and nods. "That kind."

"Well, then order that one then," says Iordanes with a chuckle.

As the waitress swishes away to put their order in, Iordanes listens to Paloma chatter away about herself. What else did she have to talk about, after all? He becomes increasingly taken with the little sprite. He sighs softly.

"Paloma, I can't be your mother."

Paloma looks up, her brown eyes becoming giant and tear-filled.

"Y-you can't be my mother? B-but wh-why not?" She blubbers, looking like she's about to cry.

"Wh-why don't I get to have a m-mother? D-don't I d-deserve one?"
