Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee

Dacj was something of a sight; more so than usual. She'd retrieved the smallest of Hytech's inflatable pools kept on hand for events, filled it with air and then ferried water from the staff lounge sink. Then, hitching up her long skirt and knotting it far beyond what passed for her hips, she'd settled in for the long haul--tentacles curled up and around and splayed out the edges, as the kraken herself settled into something of a crouch. Her eyes were closed, and she appeared almost meditative, hands limp and relaxed on top of her two foremost tentacles.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He had a nervous habit of ticking his claws. It was something like a stretching motion, each digit extending before curling, claws just shy of scratching his strong-scaled palm before repeating the process in something like a wave, the pinky first to make the motion while the others followed suit to his index finger. Yorick was generally unconscious of the motion, except this time he had a bag in his hand, each brush of razor sharp claw drawing a seamless cut into the handles until it broke.

The bag and its contents thumped loudly to the floor of the foyer, making the Jabberwock bristle in embarrassment as he swooped down and scrambled to draw it back into his grasp, clutching it to his vested chest; the objects within the bag made little noise, though a rectangular canvas poked out awkwardly and tucked beneath his chin as he carefully rounded the front area and peered into the common room. If he'd never have to hear that poem again - and really, who dared called that murderous mantra a poem?! - it would be entirely too soon. Alas, it was one of the things the fearsome concoction still remembered.

Brushing his loose ponytail over his shoulder - for it was warm out, and hair as long as his tended to act as a canopy for the Wonderland Hyte - he straightened his posture and turned his flame-heavy eyes around the room until he found the source of the words. Surprise was his to show on his face, lips parted around his sharp teeth. "Is that...?" Yorick took a few anxious steps towards the strange dark figure the Kraken made, knowing there was some familiarity to her but knowing she was not as he had drawn before.

"Dacj?" The Jabberwock looked flabbergasted, clutching his bag to his chest, his tail tapping nervously behind him, wings taut against his back. It was either his tentacled friend or a lovely elder sibling he was not aware of. "Is that you? Why are you reciting such poems?" To Yorick, that question was far more important than why she was in an inflatable pool indoors.

The kraken opened one eye, confirmed Yorick's presence, and then closed it again. "Practicing my Romantics and whimsicals--I'm really rather fond of 'The Lady of Shalott'... And Tennyson's 'The Kraken' does make for an impressive, albeit slightly macabre, imagery."

She stood from her crouch, lightly shaking out her limbs as she went to rid them of the stiffness she'd acquired from her chosen position, her eyelids fluttering open again together and a wry smile on her face as she quipped, "'There he hath lain, and will lie, battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep, until the latter fire shall heat the deep; then, once by man and angels to be seen, in roaring he shall rise--and on the surface, die." She stepped out of the pool and set about untying the kilted up skirt, brushing it out so it lay smooth. "I didn't mean to startle you; I'm sorry about that."

The green-tinged male could only stare unblinkingly at the tentacled femme as she disentangled herself from her posture, listening without really hearing. Poems were akin to riddles, tales told through choice words; given what Yorick had been through in Wonderland and all that the power of words held in such a topsy-turvy land, it was safer for him not to listen. As such, he wore a rather vacant look as she recited the unusual and haunting stanza, tail still ticking in a nervous thump against the floor. "Why?" was all he asked in response to all her colorful explanation. Truly, if he never had to hear the words 'snicker-snack' again...

He lowered the canvas in his awkward grasp to rest the bottom against the floor, his other clawed digits still wrapped around various pens, brushes and pencils that his long fingers had no problem circling. Yorick shook his head at her gentle apology, offering his own slightly abashed smile in return, made less demure by the sharp teeth that poked over his lips. "It's always startling to hear that," he said by way of his own apology, glancing downwards before politely holding his gaze to the Kraken. "Anything I remember is always a something bad, for all that floats between these ears, of a place...such a place..."

Yorick heaved a great sigh, the force of which seemed to sputter the flame of his eyes, several heartbeats passing before he inhaled and offered another fangy smile. "You look lovely! A dark countenance but very pretty, as I suspected you would be." Or so he assumed by his scribble in a journal upstairs. Seeming to finally note the pool, he motioned to it with his pinky claw. "Why not use something larger? I imagine the sound alone of that thing is grating." No one liked the sound of rubbed rubber and pulled plastic, after all, not even the mad.
