Name: Akio Yoshida
Nickname: Kio, Yoshi
Age: 18
Birthday: September 1st
Sign: Virgo
Gemstone: Sapphire
Blood Type: O
Fav. Food: Honey, sweets, slushies
Hated Food: Cheese Whiz. (What the hell?)
School: Meadowview High School
Hobbies
Himself - Taking care of Akio Yoshida is a full time job and nobody else knows quite how to do it but Akio himself. Whether it's primping, dressing, cleaning or flaunting, Akio's number one focus above any and every thing is Akio. He is his own favorite fan, he is his own harshest critic. Assisting himself and fulfilling his own needs comes before family, friends, school or job.
Performing - If he's not performing in one way or another, Akio is simply not alive. Singing is his passion, singing was his career - he'll sing you of the good times, of the bad times, of the Gaga times (whether or not you're willing to listen). If he's not singing (or even if he is), he's also going to add in a move or two. Choreography was never his thing but he certainly knew how to strut his stuff on the stage and with three years of music business under his belt, there tends to be a bounce in his step. With his singing career now in the figurative toilet, however, he is slowly expanding his horizons and looking into the theater - Broadway, get ready! Well, that and the nearest karaoke bar.
Fan Gathering - What do you mean you've never heard of Banzai? Clearly you've been living under a rock for the past three years, if you've never heard of the EPIC Japanese music sensation! Did Akio also mention that this band just so happens to be his singing group? Minor detail of cour-okay, so not really minor. But hey - just because he might be classified as a J-Pop hasbeen (though you'd better not DARE say that to his face!), Akio loves nothing more than to regale tales of his adventures in the music industry and attempt to win you over as one of his 'new American fans'. He likes it when you adore him. Really. Hey, he even has a spare Banzai t-shirt you can wear, with his face on it!
Music Culture Guru - Having grown up around the music industry all of his life, Akio has been exposed to more music, fashion and culture than the average teenager. Aside from the typical J-Pop culture, he reads up, watches and devours the wonders hailing from across the sea. When he was eight, his parents caught him in the bathroom with his mother's make-up, attempting to become the fifth member of KISS. The only thing he wanted for his eleventh birthday were scarves to match Steven Tyler's. He may or may not have attempted to tear off the head of his little sister's Beanie Baby bat with his teeth ala Ozzy Osbourne style at thirteen (he regrets nothing - not even the ER visit afterwards thanks to the several pellets he ended up inhaling and choking on).
Other of his favorite artists include the Beatles, Queen, Miley Cyrus and his latest discovery: Lady Gaga. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta is his new hero in the world of glitter, costumes and music, so it's not uncommon to see him singing along to Boys, Boys, Boys or Paparazzi on any regular day. He's secure in his masculinity. It's time the rest of the male population was too.
Karaoke - Now that he's not performing on center stage, he's making his center stage - which means dragging any and everyone he can to come join him in Destiny's City karaoke bars. With American Idol not scheduled to drop by for auditions any time soon (or his manager to call back with the news he was welcomed back into the public's open arms), he can use the karaoke bar for not only recreational fun but for good 'ol singing practice. You know, to the tune of Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys.
Quarter Machines - Wherever he goes, Akio always has several quarters to spare in his pocket, on the off chance that the elusive quarter machine might be lurking around the corner. Gum, rings, keychains, temporary tattoos - he'll take them all and then some. His dresser has a drawer dedicated to his quarter machine treasures. It doesn't matter what's in them, as long as he can drop in a quarter, twist a knob and receive a prize. Rarely does he splurge his quarters on crane games (it's a gamble, he'll argue), but on occasion he might. This was how he obtained his favorite teddy bear which he named, of course, Akio.
There was one incident to note that he discovered a quarter machine in a men's bathroom in a truck stop. He doesn't really want to talk about the prize that came out of that dispenser. Needless, to say, it did not go in his treasure drawer.
Virtues Seize the Day -- Laziness is not an option. Akio is a firm believer that nothing can be achieved by sitting or lounging around. As well, one should never have to wait until tomorrow to do what can be accomplished today - in fact, there is no day but today. If an opportunity presents itself, Akio sees no reason why it shouldn't be taken. You only live life one time, so there's no excuse as to why you would waste it by being idle or unproductive. Singing is productive. Fan gathering is productive. Sitting around and sleeping is far from productive! A Regular Prince Charming - Living the life of a music star requires a talented amount of bullshit and charm. Smooth and savvy with his words and motions, Akio grew up in a world where kissing a** came as a second nature, be it reporters, fans, managers and the like. Thanks to his upbringing, he knows the right thing to say at the right time and he usually says it if it means stroking his ego or helping him get his way. And, of course, it doesn't hurt when it comes to the ladies.
Confident - Bold and unpredictable, Akio never hesitates before jumping into the fray or making a decision on whim. Breaking into song or breaking into conversation, Akio has enough confidence to see him through any and all of his decisions (and it's okay, he knew you wanted to hear his thoughts on the subject anyhow!). So what if someone spread a rumor? Akio knows the truth and that alone satisfies him. Want to believe the naysayer? Your problem, man! Akio doesn't plan, Akio simply does, and he'll take the consequences in stride (though he really couldn't care less of what you thought of it to begin with since he was happy with his decision in the first place!). Expect the unexpected and you'll be expecting Akio.
Setting the Standard - Akio does not need your standards to live by - Akio sets his own standards for himself to live by. Peer pressure only works when you respect how your peers feel and you want to please them - Akio firmly believes his feelings trump yours and therefore it is you who should be feeling the need to please him, not the other way around. So what if you made an A - he thinks making a B is perfectly acceptable and you're just some silly overachiever. It doesn't matter if you went to bed at ten - he can still manage to wake up for school after going to bed at 2:30, so 2:30 is perfectly acceptable!
Aside from his own parents, there are very few individuals that Akio has any interest in seeking approval from, making himself responsible for setting his own standard. Peer pressure problems? Not with Akio!
Flaws
Overwrought - Having a flair for the dramatic is an understatement for Akio. He doesn't simply lose competitions. He bombs them, he tanks them, he massacres them. (Did I mention he only forgot to flip his hair at the end?) One note out of place means D-Day is upon the world. In reverse, if you've made him happy, you've made his day week month lifetime. You are his best friend, you are his shining star, you are the love of his life. That is, until you do something to screw up that happy moment and then he's on you like warts on a frog. No matter the situation, Akio over-dramatizes anything, both positive and negative. Limelight Central - All the world's a stage and Akio has the leading role. All roles have the important task of ensuring his importance and he has little time to bother with those who think they stand a chance of bringing on any competition. Arrogant and egocentric, all spotlight must be on him at all times or someone is going to be fussed at. Or clung onto. Or have their sleeves pulled. Or hands waved in their faces until he gets that spotlight back. He's all for making friends....as long as those friends remember their place in the hierarchy of Akio's life. Once you've proven yourself to be worthy in a role in Akio's Life, you have gained immunity from being tossed aside on a whim, as many of his girlfriends find themselves to be. That's not to say he won't abandon you for forgetting about him and how important he is, but you'll usually find yourself picked back up and brushed off. You know. When he feels like getting back to you. Anything You Can Do - He can do better. One hundred times better. A MILLION times better (at least, in his opinion). Akio has no issue with telling you just why he deserves that A+ more than you, just why he deserves to be dating so-and-so instead of you and just why he's so much better at anything good that you think you can do. Can he actually prove it? Of course not, he doesn't have to prove anything to you. He's just that good. One Minute Romeo - Akio has left his fair share of uncalled numbers and scorned Juliets behind in Japan, but he doesn't plan on stopping there. There's nothing more exciting than having adoring girls on his arm...but then that arm starts to get heavy, their voices tend to annoy his perfect ears and he's just now noticing how their outfits never coordinate with his. You know, on second thought, this really isn't going to work out. Oh no baby, don't worry, it's not him - it's you. Akio's one true love is Akio, so most girlfriends or dates wind up being short lived and under-loved.
Physical Description
Eyes: Almond shape and color.
Hair: Styled short and perfectly.
Face: Lean and flawless.
Clothes: Fashionable to a T. When not in school uniform, he's usually lounging around in nice slacks and button-down shirt - there's no reason, in Akio's mind, that a person should not look his best at all times! Who knows who could be watching?
History Blurb:
Born to a music manager and singer, Akio was raised knowing the in's and out's of the music industry. With his father as his manager and his mother as his cheerleader, Akio began vocal lessons as soon as he was able to talk. Music competitions became a normality for him and at thirteen, he was signed with a singing group Banzai, consisting of four other boys of the same age. Banzai went on to become a smash hit among the J-Pop fans of Japan (especially with swooning teenage girls!) and came out with three CDs and three musical tours.
After three years of performing together, however, the group fell apart after member Shi Takahichi canceled his contract and signed with a competitive record label, going solo with his own talents. The remaining four attempted to keep Banzai together, but it unfortunately could not be salvaged, leaving Akio jobless a mere three months later.
Auditions came and went, but it became painfully obvious that Japan was no longer in need of Akio's services. Akio's little sister Rei, however, was still making it big, but Akio himself was left with nothing but the disappointment of two goal-driven parents. Having no other talent to rely on, he found his escape from the pressured world of his parents and the music industry in the form of an Exchange Program that opened up the opportunity to travel to America and stay with a host family, keeping him far far away from his current situation.
Akio knows nothing outside of the world of music and the little tutoring he had from home. It has been years since his first initial years in the public school system, but he's ready and willing to set out into the infamous USA and make a new name for himself.
That is, until his manager father calls with a new gig for him.
He's sure to call at any time, now.
... Any time.

I gotta question about his One-Minute Romeo trait, is he only this flighty about women or about people in general? The way you have him set up so far I can imagine him only being interested in people so long as they're lavishing him with attention and feeding his ego, but when their relationship becomes less about ~Akio Yoshida~ he starts losing interest in them -- so, basically, he's more interested in making fans than making friends, am I on the mark with this? Does it grate on him when people don't adore him?

A very good question! I expanded on his flaw Limelight Central as well as edited and fixed up the rest of the profile - he's definitely all about himself and expects those he hangs with to feel the same way. Opposed to girlfriends, however, he usually gives those he deems 'close' to him more chances of screwing up before they're dropped for good - after all, nobody can be as perfect as he is, so what kind of a guy would he be if he didn't give his buds a second chance or two? wink
I'm also saying that as I'm going in with the knowledge that he and his fellow two Eyes will be QUITE different than one another and their dynamic will definitely be assisting in developing Akio out of his career-minded shell. Akio's used to a world where he had to be number one. It was him or it was the competition - he had to look better, he had to perform better, he had to rely on HIMSELF to get things done. With two partners and a boss to look up to now, however, he's going to have to learn how to work in a team formation.... and answer to a higher power that doesn't go by the name Mr. or Mrs. Yoshida.
Girls, on the other hand, are nothing more than glorified fan-of-the-moments to him (at least, as he's starting out!). They're good for making him look and feel good about himself, but he's not in relationships for the long haul and has no interest in pursuing such things.
On that note, thread is now open for crit/stamping! WOO.

Can I get a little more exposure on how Personal Tidiness counts on a virtue? Right now I'm a bit iffy on it because it reads a bit too much like "he looks good," and that's more of a physical characteristic than an attribute of his personality.

Replaced Tidiness with Confident; hopefully that one is a better fit heart

Man, I haven't even finished reading his hobbies and I'm already grinning at the thought of seeing him in action! xD
His "confident" virtue really fits him -- a much better fit than the virtue I suggested. XD I just have a couple questions:
Performing -- will Akio be prone to GRAND FLAMBOYANT GESTURES to further up his ante/make sure attention is all on him? I am really curious as to whether or not his hand gestures (if any) are over the top for dramatics or not.
In "Performing" he has four years of music performance under his belt, but in "Fan Gathering" Banzai has been around for only three? What happened in that last year -- did he go solo? Was part of another band? Training? Karaoke bars? Typo? 8D

I ACTUALLY see him to be more of a physical-type guy, when it comes to making a scene? Like if he's trying to get your attention, he'll be grabbing/pulling/hanging off your arm, slinging an arm around a shoulder, that sort of thing. When he's singing, I think there may be some motions here and there if he's being a ham (aka his natural self) but overall, I think most flamboyant hand gestures will occur when he gets overly excited. From my personal experience in chamber chorus and the theater (which isn't much, I admit), I remember being forced to keep my hands at my side when performing, since I myself have a tendency of talking with my hands? So knowing that, I imagine Akio, in all of his lessons and training, has it hammered into his head to NOT wave around outside of the choreography? But, like I said, it can slip one's mind when one's overly excited!
AND YOU SAW NOTHING MARU.
NOTHING.
(fixed).

Oh, that's interesting, how much and how often does he invade people's personal space? This sounds like a really fun / +++interactive characteristic, so if he's habitually touchy-feely when he's not under the spotlight, it might be worth incorporating into his flaw set somehow. 8D

Not entirely positive on how often he'll use those tactics to get attention (I honestly will need to RP him first and get a groove on his style), but I added a mention into Limelight Central <3
