Amitola floated along on the bottom of the lake, sighing. There was no one around but her today. The lake seemed exceedingly empty and lonely. Solitude brought memories of her parents, and those brought pain.
They'd raised her to leave home. She should have seen it coming. But she hadn't, and they'd left without her.
Ami swam higher, until the few shafts of light that penetrated the deep water could shine on her face. They warmed her from ears to tail, and she reveled in the naturally heated water around her. An idea gripped her mind, and decided it wouldn't let go.
Today would be the day. At last, she would finally go see her parents in their new home by the beach, see how they'd settled in. She knew where they lived; it was a simple matter of making it down the river.
Excited, she made for the river's entrance, barely noticing when her ears and the fin on the top of her head rose a tiny bit above the surface of the water.

Along the lake shore walks the lovely mare, her hooves carrying her. Those lovely light blue eyes watched out over the glistening lake. The last time she was here her friend was with her, this was one stop before the place her friend lost her life. Killed by the very kind of Soquilli she dare not speak of. head drooped down to take a drink near the base of the lake where it returned to river.
A few drinks before she lifts her head, just before spotting the ears, her head tilting, as if to wonder if she was seeing things. Hooves carried her back from the water to look over it a bit more. She had not seen many kinds of Soquilli, even with all her travels.
shuffles her hooves a few times before she steps into the water slightly, making her was towards the ears, in hopes to get a better look at what they could be attached to. The water felt good against her legs, a cool soothing feeling. her head heading more to the side

Amitola's ears, still bobbing along above the water, heard a splash from far above her head. Alarmed, she shot as far as she could above the surface, until her back rested at the same level as the surface of the river. This was why she never left home; she was always afraid something would happen.
Looking around a little wildly, Amitola spotted a pretty ground-mare, with a perfectly white and braided mane and tail. Pink, swirled markings blanketed most of her dark body, and strange gold rings adorned her ankles.
Ami looked at her with interest. The mare didn't look like the type to come to the river, especially when it was muddy and full from the glacial melt. But she knew better than that. Ami, of all people, knew that looks could be deceiving - her parents were evidence enough of this.

She looks over the mare for a moment, her head tilting from side to side, moving back slightly. "Oh, hello there." She spoke with a soft tone, sweet, almost cheery. Though she was not quite sure what the strange things was before her, she was not going to be rude. Armelle was raised better then that by her brother.
She gives a flicker of her ears, eyes wondering over the colorful mare before her, seemed as if the mare was made for swimming, so different, yet so interesting, and that was something that drove Armelle to explore, to learn about the world around her. "My, your an odd looking Soquilli, so small, and no hinds." She giggles, not meaning to be rude, even if it sounded so.
She allows the giggles to fade before she speaks again. "I am Armelle, a normal Soquilli, and yourself Miss?" She asked softly, still in that sweet tone, something so foal like. She was more foal like innocent, almost seeming to be pure of heart.

Amitola looked at her, a bit confused. "You've never seen a Seathi? I mean, I know there aren't that many of us around, but... Huh. Anyway, I'm Amitola." She smiled a little. "Why have you come to the river? You certainly don't look like the type, if you understand my meaning."
Ami's heart had slowed down a bit since seeing Armelle; shock never stayed with her.

A smile shows as she moves out of the water, her eyes looking back to the small mare. "Nice meeting you Amitola." A flick of her tail sending water flying from it. "I am an explorer, I travel the lands, seeing all the sights I can."
She shifts her auds looking around, the air was warm, the sun easily drying her dark coat. Her eyes looks around her for a moment, taking in the surroundings. "So, you live around here?" She asks looking over the water for a moment, not the cleanest water to live in, but she guessed it could be called home,... by someone.

Amitola flinched a tiny bit as the water was flicked her way. Nevertheless, she continued conversing with the mare, though she was a little more intimidated by that tail. "An explorer? What have you seen?"
She looked around as Armelle mentioned 'living around here'. The water here wasn't the best. Sediment had piled up a bit over the years and made the water a kind of light brown opaque color. "Oh, no. I don't live here. I live in the lake. I was going to go see my parents, but..." Ami trailed off, her mind going blank like a slate.

A smile showing as she flicks her auds once more. "I have seen a lot, the lake, the mountains, though my best friend died in the mountains." She lowers her head and looks away for a moment. Taking a deep breath to gather herself.
She lifts her auds to the but, to her there was nothing to hold her back from exploring. "But what?" She asked as she looks back to the small mare. "Why would you not want to see your parents? I know if mine were alive I would want to see them.

Amitola's eyes widened. "The mountains sound like an awful place, if your friend was lost there..." She was silent for a second. She couldn't imagine any of her friends dying. It wasn't a very happy thing to try to imagine, either.
Ami sighed. She'd noticed the 'but'. There wasn't a lot to do but reply. "My parents and I... We're not on great terms. I disappointed them and they moved away. They left me in the lake by myself. It's really hard to even try to go see them... Normally, this is about as far as I make it."
She noticed that her skin was beginning to dry out and dipped her head back under for about three seconds before coming back up. That could have come close, if she hadn't gone under when she did. Dehydration sucked.

With a shake of her head she cleared her mind of most thoughts that filled it. She had not had many friends, and the loss of one so close was for some reason always somewhere in her mind. She turned and notices the other gone, but seeing her pop up she flicks her auds.
"Well, Maybe they would be glad to see you, parents almost always forgive, at least from what i have seen and heard." She had nothing really to say, no parents for her, and was raised by her brother.
She looks over the water once more, the color was making her wonder how anyone could swim though that anyways, at least to the distance of the ocean.

"Well..." Amitola said, trailing off. She was undecided. To go or not to go? Not going sounded just about as appealing as going. Amitola tilted her head a little as she was thinking - a habit she'd developed over the long months alone.
An idea hit her like a fish to the face. "Armelle, would you please come with me? For moral support, or at least company? It's a long journey. I don't think I can make it by myself - I haven't ever gotten very far alone."

She did not even have to really think about it, she loved exploring, and a trip to anywhere was fun for her. "Sure, I would love an adventure, and it is always fun to travel with others." Lowering her head more to the water, a sweet smile showing.
"I am sure the trip will be fun, and you will learn about things on the way, at least i always do. I just wish I could swim like you, I have never got to explore the lake or ocean." Auds flicker once more as she lifts her head again to look over the land around her, taking in the train she could see from where she was standing.

Amitola felt like cheering. Finally, someone who would talk her into bravery and come with her down the river. She didn't know what lay ahead, but she was certainly happy that someone was going to accompany her. Even the normally gloomy trees seemed to brighten.
She smiled. "Thank you, Armelle..." She paused, wondering what to do next. "Do you need anything, or should we head downriver now?"

Slips into thought for a moment to see if there was something that she may need, but since this was water, and most of the food she would need would be easy to find she figured she was good to go. "Nope, nothing needed for me." She smiles as she moves her tail into a light swish before looking down river.
She knew it may be a long trip, but at least there will be someone to talk to. "After you." She smiles softly as she turns slightly, paws moving along the soft riverside earth. Auds lay back, her tail swishing slowly.

A little nervous about finally making the journey to see her parents, Ami paddled her hooves silently in the water for a little bit before silently turning and letting the current carry her downriver.
After a couple seconds, she looked back at Armelle. "C'mon. I need to get this over with." She smiled weakly. "So, can I call you Melle or something?" she asked carefully. She knew some soquili didn't like their names shortened, but she was fine with it. Ami had had nicknames since she herself was a baby, and was quite used to it.
