Character Name: Alurel
Age: 15
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft/Rank: Weyrbrat / Candidate
History:
Alurel was born in the Weyr a child of a Pediatrics healer and a male dragon rider as a product of a lost flight. Growing up, Alurel was fortunate because got to know his mother even though he was raised in the traditional Weyr sense. He didn't know his father nearly as well but knew who the man was. However, being that life is as it is in a Weyr, he never approached the man about it. But it was because of his knowledge of this heritage that his own fascination for the beloved creatures began.
His baby years he was considered a rather frustrating child because the word WHY was always upon his lips. He could never stop asking questions and never took JUST BECAUSE IT IS...as an answer. Thus, he was punished quite frequently for being a constant annoyance. It was always hard for him to accept any answer at face value and when he finally could talk coherently to the world around him, he blossomed much faster.
As he grew through childhood, Alurel inherited a health mix of his mother and father's qualities but his socialization came much from growing up in the group of kids in the Weyr. He was a creative child but sometimes a bit quiet in the times between those questions he'd ask of Harpers. Alurel tended to slip away from the crowds just to slink over to various viewing point to watch the dragons practice and let his mind digest the answers he had received. But another reason was because Alurel didn't care for being part of the pecking order that naturally occurs when a bunch of kids are growing up side by side.
However, during study he was more comfortable and has always been ahead and demanding of himself to learn all the things he can about the Weyr, the laws, the Harpers' words. If anything, his ears are the vacuum where information goes in and gets trapped in his brain. Knowledge is the key to almost every problem. He's not quite certain of his path in life yet but sooner or later he will figure it out.
Description:
With eyes of deep blue and hair as black as coal against fair skin, he's been considered a pretty boy with in the Weyr. Right now, at his age he hasn't hit his growth spurt so he's a bit small, only hitting 5' 4" and kind of lanky. It not a muscular appearance but the lean slip out of sight like the wind sort of body.
Personality:
Intelligent but considered quiet....too quiet...He's the type of boy that watches and learns before acting...Or finds the answer first then acts. So sometimes he seems slow to react but when he does the act its always decisive. So it tends to shock people because it's rather unexpected. He's the type that won't follow the group just because they all went left. He'll think about that action first then come to his own conclusion.
Sometimes this causes problems because he doesn't always follow the leader. He chooses if the action is in his best interest first. If its right, he follows the leader, if not, he chooses his own path. While not one to break rules outright, he is one to question if the person is there to answer.
He'd rather avoid bullies. He'd prefer not to engage them and let others take that honor. However, if pestered, he prefers Intellect over Fists...He will attempt to reason out his opponent and make them look stupid in front of others to quell a possible fight.
In the sense of self, he's fairly patience and happiest when he feels mentally engaged. So a job that keeps his mind thinking is what he will excel at. At these times, he can even be a little more chatty and warm.
He's at his worst when he is bored and doing tedious jobs. Jobs that are mindless never get done well. He just won't perform at his peek unless someone is goading him to get done. He really has to be pushed during these moment and even then he might talk his way out of it if he can manage. It's not that he is lazy but he just cannot get himself motivated to do a mindless task.
Overall, he's reasonably comfortable in his own skin although at times, but occasionally he feels slightly alone and disconnected even in the bustle of the Weyr. It could be because he follows the beat of a different drummer at his own pace but sometimes that beat isn't in line with other's hearts. At times, he does wonder how he fits into the Weyr as a whole. He's not been able to answer these questions of himself.
