IN THE NAME OF THE MOON! CONCEPT

SECTION ONE

Name: Lucien Carden

Nicknames: Lu, Luc, Lucy (revenge nickname when he calls Cordy "Dolly"),

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Birthday: February 14th

Sign: Aquarius

School: Hillworth

Fav. Food: Toasted marshmallows (burnt to a crisp on the outside so he can peel it off and eat the gooey inside) and vanilla chai tea

Hated Food: Eggplant and veal (he refuses to eat baby anything)

Hobbies:

  • Playing the Violin -- Lucien has been playing the violin as long as he can remember. His family wanted him to have something to get rid of his extra energy that didn't involve large amounts of physical contact (he's a toothpick not a linebacker). At first it was a chore but as he got older Lucien began to enjoy the serenity that came with practicing. The act of playing to him is a form of meditation, a place where he can let his body just flow with the notes, which he escapes to when he wants to be alone. He's never bothered to see just -how- good he is or try to make anything of it but since he's bee playing most of his life he's probably pretty good, right?

  • Photography -- His mother had a hard time staying in place so his family use to travel a lot (sadly most of it was when he was either too young to remember or too young to actually do anything but get drug around by his parents.) As a child he loved being allowed to push the button on the camera and was eventually just given disposable ones of his own and he got into a habit of taking pictures of everything. As a child he carried around disposable cameras and took snapshots of all sorts of random things when his parents took him places for lack of anything else to do. Growing up his parents eventually started getting him nicer and nicer digital cameras so he could take better pictures (so they wouldn't have to) to remember their vacations. He carries his camera with him everywhere now and will whip it out randomly to take pictures of everything you could imagine (including once a pour tourists coffee mug cause he liked the way the foam was swirling)

  • Meditation -- Odd as it may seem Lucien spends a few hours every day doing various forms of meditation. Whether it's playing his violin (which he counts as meditating), Yoga, deep breathing exercises, or whatever else he's found to try he makes sure there's time in the day for it. He's damn sure that it's a good way to survive in any environment and if everyone took a few hours every day to chill people wouldn't have so many problems.

Virtues:

  • "You're cool with me" Nonjudgmental -- He knows that he's a little weird in his own ways and knows that everyone else has their own weird quirks. To him that's not a reason to dislike someone or avoid them. Accepting people's differences leads to a better world and it means that he finds the few friends he has easier.

  • "I won't give up!" Dedicated -- While his parents made him play the violin when he was younger they stopped pushing for it once he was around ten. Despite this he chose to stick with the hobby and keep trying to get better. This instilled in him a habit of dedication to whatever tasks he's set himself toward finishing. Once he's on a path he stays there until he's reached the end rather than giving up half way.

  • "Are you really watching paint dry?" Patient -- Lucien actually could watch paint dry and not be bored. He's extremely patient and knows that things will happen eventually so long as you give them enough time to come to fruition. His parents worked a lot when he was a child and didn't like to be bothered every few seconds by a pesky child so he learned from them if he was patient and let them get to him he would get more of their attention than if he tried to get it the moment he wanted it. Note: His patience does have a limit though and it snaps faster than normal when subjected to constant torment. ex. someone tapping their fingers on a table, blowing bubbles with gum, etc.

  • "No shoes in the house!." Neat/Clean -- Cluttered spaces make for cluttered minds and cluttered anything is not allowed around Lucien. He doesn't like things being dirty or looking frumpy and spends a good bit of time making sure his space is clean and tidy. When you dirty dishes they get rinsed off and put in the washer, dirty clothes go in the hamper not on the floor, shoes get left by the door so dirt doesn't get tracked into the house, and your clothes should be freshly washed and clean looking. Note: Lucien is -not- OCD about keeping things clean but he will tsk at anyone who isn't or messes up his space

Flaws:

  • "h-hello .... ._." Shy -- Not your average shy either. Lucien's 'shyness' borders on what most people would call 'anti-socialism'. He's terrified of talking to new people and -never- makes the first move to talk to someone or make friends. Just the thought of having to say something first makes his heart race. He's much happier sticking headphones on and a good play-list of classical music and pretending that he's busy than risking having to make idle chatter with someone he doesn't know. Note: He will talk to other people he is just terrified of making the first move to talk to someone. If you say hi to him first he'll talk back but will be very reserved in what he says

  • "No really, you go ahead." Doormat -- Lucien probably has enough footprints on him to qualify as a sidewalk by this point. He doesn't have the self-esteem or guts to stand up for himself and lets others just do what they want. He never takes the leader roll (not voluntarily at least) and is happy to let someone else hog the spotlight without complaint. Note: Most of his 'doormat'ness comes from his oversized pool of patience. He's so used to being pushed aside by others because he's happy to quietly wait his turn that even when it might be best to assert himself he doesn't. He will put his foot down some times but these are -very- rare cases (like someone offers to sacrifice him to the god of polished steering wheels)

  • "Can't let things go." Obnoxiously Persistent -- Borderline on stfu, if Lucien gets something into his head he will pick it to pieces, over and over, likely until he's ready to bang his head out of frustration... Or yours for being so damned -difficult- to figure out. No matter if it's obviously uncomfortable for the other party he just keeps pressing on.

  • "You're all useless" Misanthropist -- Lucien has lost all faith in humanity. Period. He has one, maybe two, people he trusts but to him humanity as a whole can drop dead for all he cares. He just does -not- give a damn about humanity or it's plights and can be rather rude about it when people ask him to donate to charities. He has on occasion given people a large chunk of his mind when they try to convince him that donating to 'feed the children' will help the world. He has gotten into pretty nasty arguments with friends over why charitable organizations are a waste of money. Note: Civilian causalities? Not something that even crosses his mind. This more a part of Sailor Arsinoë than Lucien though it does effect them both to some extent

Tidbits:
  • Newly Orphaned -- Lucien Came to Destiny City to stay with his Aunt and Uncle after his parents were killed in a car accident and due to the circumstances of the accident no one was ever prosecuted for the wreck and the deaths. This has never sat well with Lucien and it's affected him pretty deeply

  • Why is Mr. Doormat at Hillworth? -- That's a very good question my friend. Since Lucien rarely says no to anyone and has no spine he got himself into a little trouble prior to his parent's fatal accident. There was a fire at the school started by some students and rather than get the snot beat out of him for ratting Lucien took partial blame for starting it. Because of this when he was forced to move in with his Aunt/Uncle he was recommended for Hillworth so he wouldn't cause any more trouble in his last semester of high school.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Half lidded, usually looks like he's half asleep or zoning out. Fucia in color, a little more on the pink side.

Hair: choppy and usually messy. Dark purple in color.

Face: Smooth features, delicate nose and a small mouth.

Body: Long-limbed and 'delicate'.

Fashion:

At Home: Loose jeans and a light t-shirt usually covered over with a hoodie. He has a large collection of hoodies because he hates being cold and almost always is

At School: He keeps his uniform neat but has a habit of skuffing his shoes (he likes being barefoot). He had to get his uniform pants custom tailored because he's got way too much leg compared to most other students.

At Play: The one and -only- time Lucien really seems to show off is when he's wandering around town. Black pants he's either hand made or embellished on his own, black or white button up shirts and various ties to match his pants.

Sailor Scout: Chinese to a T. Clothes are embellished traditionally while still being easy to move in.

SECTION TWO

Sailor Scout: Sailor Arsinoë

Challenge: "Let me show you what lurks in the dark"

Attack #1a - Dancing Lights!
[Taking the lighting stick from his lantern he catches a bit of the flame. Holding it up to his face he breathes on the flame releasing three small orbs of fire toward his enemies. Upon contact the orbs explode Note: The explosiions are more an irritation than dealing actual damage. Think getting shocked when you touch a car door]
  • Duration: The lantern must have at least three minuets (6 posts) between attacks to refill the flame.
  • Avoidable: Yes. The orbs float fast but they are only generally targeted in an opponets direction and can not be controlled once released. If you're nimble and fast you can get away
  • Downside: Even Sailor Arsinoë's comrades can be hit by the orbs since he can not control where they go once released. The lantern also needs a long time to recharge between attacks

Attack #1a - Dancing Lights! Reveal!
[Taking the lighting stick from his lantern he catches a bit of the flame. Holding it up to his face he breathes on the flame releasing five small orbs of fire toward his enemies. Upon contact the orbs explode Note: The explosions are more powerful this time and have a chance of actually singing or burning those who they explode against.]
  • Duration: The lantern needs only two minuets (three posts) to recharge between attacks.
  • Avoidable: Yes. The orbs float fast and Sailor Arsinoë only has mild control over where they go. If you're nimble and fast you can get away
  • Downside: Even Sailor Arsinoë's comrades can still be hit by the orbs and suffer damage if they get in the way

Attack #2 - Pyre light Chain!
[Sailor Arsinoë opens the lantern releasing a chain (20-30) of Pyre lights toward his opponent. The lights target the first creature in front of them and swirl to form a spiral chain around the target. The lights are innocent so long as they are not touched but as soon as any contact is made a chain reaction of explosions starts dealing damage to whoever is inside.]
  • Duration: Once released the orbs exist until they come in contact with something and explode. Attack can only be done once per battle and the lantern is unable to recharge during that battle.
  • Avoidable: If you're nimble and fast you can avoid the orbs before they wrap around you but any contact while dodging will still cause them to explode but the damage is reduced.
  • Downside: Even Sailor Arsinoë's comrades can get trapped if they get between the lights and their intended target. They also face the risk of damage from an explosion of they touch the lights while trying to deal with someone trapped within them..

HI POPPING IN

It seems like your attacks are really sincerely overpowered. He sucks out all the light in an area of about 80 feet around him (25 meters = 82.0209974 feet) and no one else can relight it and everyone else is blind and this attack goes on until the lantern no one else can relight is relit--it is really coming off as MASSIVELY OP. Maybe have it affect a ten-foot radius around him, and have the lantern relight after 30-45 seconds?

also, I don't really see what a lantern, which brings light, would have to do with making everything dark. Maybe explain your rationale behind that and the pyreflies, too?
PostPosted: Mon May 03, 2010 2:55 pm

the reasoning behind it is because to me lanterns' can both bring light and take it away. The darkness is not complete because you can introduce light into it with -any- other light source. Think the reverse lighter from harry potter

The Pyre lights are the lantern's light itself. Magic fire. I didn't want light based attacks because to me lanterns are more about shadow and fire and when i think of lanterns i think of ghostly floating lights in a spooky forest.

tweeked the powers though and playing with an alternate set

added a second powerset. I'd like the opinion of a critter/staffer on which is better cannon wise to go with XD cause i'm not sure

went with the second set. i like it better anyway

Popping back in, those look a lot more reasonable.

Have you considered the fact that senshi and negaversers glow? :T

I was not aware that they gave off a glow ICly no. I didn't see that in any info about them so i must have missed it if that's the case.

I doubt the Lantern would take that away and personal glow like that would be considered an introduced light source for the first powerset and would continue to glow. So that would give them light in their general vicinity depending on how bright they were but they wouldn't be able to see outside of the light from their glow

LOVE the attacks. I never saw the first set, but I think the ones there now are appropriately power levelled, nice effects, etc. All good there.

The only thing that is really preventing a stamp at the moment are his flaws. You're having the same problem I originally had with Odile - that none of the flaws make them a bad person. They're effects of a hard life, or how others have treated them, and the flaws are more sympathy-inducing than indicative of bad qualities / a bad person. It was something Rose picked up on, so I think at least one of his flaws should be something that will make him unlikable.

Simple question about Pyre light Chain: how often can it be cast, and what happens if someone teleports out of it (assuming this attack doesn't block teleporting abilities)?
PostPosted: Thu May 06, 2010 5:33 pm

@Kali: tweeked his Misanthropist flaw a bit. That was meant to be his nasty one but i'm guessing i didn't explain it well enough the first time.

Also changed his "Not athletic" flaw to "Can't let things go". The one thing he does that annoys the -hell- out of his Cousin.

@Dark: It says in the duration XD He can cast it once per battle and then is unable to attack at all anymore.

As for teleporting so long as the person didn't touch one of the chain pieces when they moved, or the teleportation didn't create some sort of outward effect, they'd be fine and the chain would just hover in place being a nuisance on the battlefield.

It seems you're on a great start, if not almost finished! I was wondering about one thing, though. Is there a reason you choose "Arsinoe"? I'm just asking because I got really excited about it. I just had an entire class on the Ptolemaic dynasty and was wondering if you'd looked into all that prior to picking the name.
PostPosted: Sun May 09, 2010 7:00 pm

the original name i wanted was in use, i'm guessing via a RL slot since i dont remember seeing a senshi in the shop with the name, so i just picked something that sounded like it had to do with 'fire' since i could find -nothing- lantern based. no special meaning behind it and nothing to do with the ptolemaic dynasty XD

Senshi do not ICly glow. smile

Xaotl
((No more ponies for you Stae! It is TTLY UNFAIR! wink )

Question: Someone said that Senshi and Negaverse GLOW?
I know there's an art effect on the art that gives them a 'glow', but is this really IC? This would affect some past RPs of characters hiding, since it's a lot harder to hide if you're radiating light, however dim.

Prophet: False! All powered up characters give off an aura - that is, an invisible energy vibe. It corresponds with the rank of a character; a sailor senshi and a lieutenant would give off roughly the same low level of energy, but the senshi give off a distinctly different (see: 'good') vibe than Negaverse (see: 'bad'). Characters with massive energy levels, like Guardian Cats in human form, Queen Beryl, and Wiseman, will have very noticeable auras that can be felt from quite a ways away. That's why Guardian Cats can't pass as people in their human form! The Negaverse would figure them out even if they hid their ears and tail.

TL;DR no visible glow. That's just something Natsu does with the art XD

I'm not sure if this is something civilians can sense, I'll wait on another staffer to answer that.

codalion: I think Tig might've accidentally edited out Shazari's response here, which was along the lines of: nope, no glow, the only people who glow are Scheelite (who has glowsticks) and Wiseman (who has Chaos).

His personality looks good to me.

I like the direction you went with his attacks! Though, I think five is too much for the first-level attack -- perhaps consider reducing it to three orbs, then having five orbs as the power-up? I think five at senshi stage is too much, as senshi are -very- weak. When a senshi hits super their attacks also take on a new cosmetic effect -- so you could make the orbs bigger and/or look like ghost fire. ^^

How do Shy and Obnoxiously Persistent work together? I'm having a bit of trouble following how he can be a pest if he has trouble taking the initiative in a conversation.

@Maru: I know they don't glow. I saw the post in the Q&A when it was made because both Skye and Ryu wtfed when they looked in here since they didn't think they glowed XD

Edited the senshi power to just be 3 orbs.

@Mouse: Because as it says in the Shy flaw it's targeted toward -new- people. Once he knows someone he will talk to them. The Obnoxiously Persistent flaw is more a 'bad' side of him that people he knows will see. Or something others would hear about third-hand if his friends complain about him not shutting up to their other friends.
