When you were marked for the Zodiac, you might as well be marked for death. Your birth name became nothing but a meaningless word that was tossed aside and people would say 'Him? Oh, he's going to be Soldier Cancer.' Nothing more. Women avoided him, men avoided him, catboys and catgirls gave him sad looks. Just once he wanted someone to look at him without pity with something close to normal emotions. He'd given up back home. Home barely even felt like home anymore.
Surrounded by senshi going about their lives, laughing and hooking up, running around after lunch. And him, knowing that he was supposed to be one of them and still being apart of that same smiling throng. The older Zodiacs scared him, they seemed so serious, so strung up. Like this was a death sentence.
And that was exactly why Cancer had fled to the garden after being dumped in the Zodiac palace. He didn't want to become like them; serious and all scary.
The people flitting about seemed to be ignoring him. And he ignored them in turn. He was going to be late for the wedding ceremony at this rate. Cancer sighed, leaning over a rose hedge. He hated this place already. He was scared too.

On the contrary, being the Princess of the Zodiacs wasn't such a bad thing. Everyone loved and adored the Princess, including the grumpy guardian cat named Zue, and that said a lot about the Princess' charm. Chronos was used to this, although she knew that as the new Zodiacs arrived, her life would be much different. Aries was already requesting for her to go through tougher training, and not just self-defense lessons, he had said dismissively.
Even so, the castle seemed terribly busy as they prepared for the wedding ceremony. She had seen the thirteen rings all laid out in a row, sparkling like brand new although she knew that that shine would not stay there for long; it would become dulled with each battle. She was warned not to touch them, because they were hot, it was explained, and would contract around its owner's finger once worn, burning the mark of the Zodiac into them. Chronos had made a face, but knew that they would go on to face tougher things that wrought more wounds that a ring burning on their finger.
She was supposed to preside over the ceremony once all the Zodiacs arrived, and servants were still bustling about, and as she was dressed properly in a long white dress and hair combed, the Seasons were hauled away to dress up too. Come to think of it, she hadn't exactly met all the Zodiacs yet, some were to be introduced to her formally, one by one or planet by planet? She had no idea. After getting dressed, the ten year old (turning eleven this year, she would insist) was to wait in her room until she was called, but she was horribly bored, for even Zue was busying himself with the matters of the ceremony.
Gathering up the folds of her dress with a sigh, the Princess went out of her room and headed towards one of the side gardens. Perhaps she could rest there among the flowers for a while, and it wasn't that she was getting lost on purpose. Zue had lectured her enough when she had sneaked out of her room and ended up in her mother's the next day, and she was determined not to get another lecture again.

It's tough going through puberty and facing up with the responsibilities of the universe. Life doesn't often give out such burdens, but when it does--- ohh cute!
Cancer's emo ramblings were interrupted by a ghost drifting past him in the garden. She was all pale and in a dress-- and was totally not legal--- and drifting off like she was hiding from a lecture. A state of existence Cancer knew o'so'well.
He grinned down at the flowers in front of him and picked the nearest one- it was missing half the petals, but nevermind that- "Hey there cutie-pie." Cancer struggled through the bushes and jumped on the path in front of the girl. "I've lost my phone number, can I have yours?"

The Princess blinked in surprise at the figure that jumped right in front of her, regarding him with a puzzled glance over from his head to his toes. She had never seen him here before; he was not one of the servants, nor one of the older Zodiacs who served her mother, nor the Scholars that usually accompanied Prince Eon. He didn't dress like a Scholar either, which led her to deduce that he was probably one of the new Zodiacs.
"It's quite easy to contact one in the Zodiac palace." She said, eyes wide and curious. "There are more people inhabiting other planets though, so I figure that might be a bit of a bother, but it's not much hassle here." Answering his question momentarily made the young girl forget about introducing herself; she was instead more interested on how different it was like on whichever planet he came from.

Rejection! Bammphh! This little lady was all serious bones, no fun. Then again she was not legal and he really should have been talking to her older sister. He chuckled and brushed a hand through his hair like a sheepish creeper. Serious girls were cute too. Besides, all that long hair, she reminded him of the Serenity girls; only less prone to breaking things-- well thus far she hadn't broken anything.
The soon-to-be Cancer considered his ammunition, finally he crossed his arms, his face sobering easily enough. This man was rarely straight-up however, as the next words out of his mouth were worse. "Well that's good, maybe I will give you a call, sweetcheeks. So have you got an older sister by any chance? Is she as pretty as you?"
And the sleaze reproduced on its own. No effort required. Cancer was going to hell.

"I don't have an older sister." Chronos said, surprised at this question. He really did not know who she was. "I don't have any siblings. I am the only daughter, and I always will be. It's how it always is for my family, and how it will continue to be." It was like how her cousin Serenity was the only daughter of the Moon royalty. It had always been that way for them, the royal families. It had always destined to be that way.
"Which planet are you from?" She queried. Perhaps this would give her a hint as to guessing which Zodiac he was going to be.

oh-ho! she was trying to pick him up now! Cancer knew this game, play silly at first, then ask for his number! What a fast moving girl! Well she was an only child so, she had to be.
"Oh, me? My pretty little flower, I am from the moon. But you are far prettier than any girl there! Oh, when you're sixteen we can talk more on this matter--"
And then it struck him.
"Wait, pretty dress, noble manners....young girl...." He stepped around Chronos once, and his shoulders fell. "You're the princess, aren't you?"
He'd been hitting on his new leader? ohhh this was going to be good.

From the moon? That was terribly easy, especially when her mother had been the one to contact the Moon in regards to the funeral for the Zodiac senshi that resided there. And Chronos knew exactly who he was now, for only one Zodiac came from the Moon, and that Zodiac was...
"And you're the new Cancer, right?" She said politely, smiling at him while she bobbed her head. They had both figured each other's identity at the same time, so it was pretty much a draw between them, then!
