has to be stairway to heaven. its not the greatest song but the riff is so well known that almost any guitarist could play it.

Um, Stairway to Heaven is a song, not a riff. Could you specify what riff in the song you are talking about?
I don't think it's the greatest riff, but then again I'm not a Led fan either.

You gotta love the intro riff to Crazy Train. I do because I'm a Randy fan and everytime I hear it, it's just like BAM! I remember the first time I heard it and I was like O_O wah! That's crazy! xp

I would say that Smoke On The Water and Ironman are 2 of the greatest. Those are guitar anthems.Anybody who heres them knows what they are.

How about the intro to "Jibboom" by Steve Vai? That's a riff worth remembering.

I'm so sick of the 'classics'. I don't mean to bash on like, the classic, influential rock bands and everything, but I can't stand hearing them anymore. Iron Man is okay, I can handle playing that myself every now and then. But I can't stand hearing Smoke On The Water, Stairway To Heaven all those oh-so-essential guitar riffs.
Every wannabe kid who picks up a guitar at my school plays them all 24/7. It makes me want to eat their heads. gonk

Man, that's a hard one. My favorite reiff all-together would prolly be the second part in the intro to Master Of Puppets, or intro riff to Revolution Is My Name by Pantera.

That's why they all suck, they sit around playing the popular riffs all their cool friends play instead of improving themselves. But there are also some really good guitarists in my school.
