Who: Doucette and Iorek, Tyson and Lillian Where: Strawberry Farm outside Barton When: Just before lunch time Weather: Warm and lovely with the perfect breeze
Doucette leaned back onto her heels to give the balls of her feet a little bit of a break. The shift in weight didn't seem to help much though and so she finally unrolled from her crouched position and stretched out her legs, then torso, then arms. The weather was so perfect it was hard to remember the storms and tempests only a few days before. Unseasonably bad weather, but at least it was starting to feel like spring again.
And what could be more perfect for the sunny day than getting a flier in her mailbox about strawberry picking out in the fields. After paying a flat rate for a certain sized basket you could pick to your heart's content (or until the basket was full!) and you could even steal a little nibble on one from time to time. Perhaps the thing she was most looking forward to though was the after-picking discussion. They had recipes galore that they were going to give out for various ways to use the newly picked strawberries in fantastic treats.
Though a stool would have been nice for her little area, Doe was soon back in her squatted position hunched over her selected bundle of berry bushes. The area to her right was taken over by some noisy but not obnoxious children, but to her left it was empty, ready for a new berry picking prodigy to come along.
The redhead wiped a dirty hand across her brow and one cheek, not realizing she'd left a smudge line of dirt on her pale features, before going back to her work. Her straw basket - lined with a plain sheet to protect the berries from splinters and bruising - was closing in on half full.

Finally it was a nice day out! The Maevin's couldn't wait to get out and about after the rainy weeks they had been experiencing lately. After gathering in the kitchen and looking at the activities that were going around the calm Barton area finally the family had decided on going strawberry picking.
After all, Lillian was working to get herself and Tyson eating better, Tyson wanted to eat some strawberries, and Iorek just desired to get out of the house.
Now they stood in the strawberry field, maneuvering their steps and one pair of large arms and wings through the various people that sat on the ground.
"Tyson, this way!" Lillian called out to the boy who was picking a few strawberries off of their branches.
The lad scurried back over to the two as they searched for a place to gather the strawberries.
Iorek blinked when he spied a free spot beside a redheaded woman. "What about there?" The young raevan asked as he pointed out the spot.
The two Maevin's nodded and walked over to set up the spot as Iorek drifted over to reach out and prod the strawberries. They really had yet to notice the woman they decided to reside by.

The woman had just realized in a moment of clarity that she'd managed to smudge dirt all over her face. A combination of a warm itchy feeling and the sight of her dirty hand after taking away from her brow lead to her new discovery. She frowned and started digging around in her pockets for a tissue or handkerchief but discovering nothing with which to clean off her face with.
No doubt by this point she was looking like a child who was just learning how to finger paint, but she was going to have to resort for asking the people around her for some cleaning supplies; there was no way she was wiping dirt on her sleeve!
Turning her head to the group on her right she frowned and considered the possibilities. Surely the parents had a plethora of tissues in their bag, all the better to keep the kids occupied, but did she want to bother them? The parents had their hands full as their children began throwing the slightly more rotten berries across the bushes at each other.
No. She wouldn't bother them just yet.
Luckily, another group was inching into the position on her left, and she turned to introduce herself and beg pardon for some tissues from them. Instead she was surprised by the presence of a Raevan out picking berries. Thankfully the shock of seeing them out in public kept her from making the same sort of scene as she'd done to poor Ripley. But this one was different. He wasn't just a torso, he was a creature. A really interesting creature.
Politeness overruled her desire to bring more attention to him (as he no doubt had to contend with general public awe and confusion on a daily basis) and she gave them a little wave as they sat. "Howdy!" she said, not sounding or looking at all like a cowgirl, "Name's Doucette. Sorry to start off so quickly, but you don't have any tissues by chance, do you?" A pale hand was waved in the direction of the dirt streak on her face which was coloring a bit red under her freckles.

Lillian heaved a sigh as she and her family began to settle at the chosen spot. The lass knelt down in the grass and placed a woven basket to the side of her as she angrily batted the leaves that had a fierce desire to get tangled in her hair. Today she was prepared for some serious strawberry picking action. While Tyson picked a berry and nibbled on it his sister reached into the basket and pulled out a checkered blanket for them to kneel and sit on. She then took out sunscreen for them to reapply later, water bottles, and three rolls of paper towels. Yep, they were all set now!
Tyson smiled with delight as he ate up the strawberry, "So good..." He cooed with delight as his cheeks reddened to the shade of the strawberries he had such a craving for. Licking up the juices that laid upon his lips and fingers the lad was just about to reach for another berry but to no avail when Lillian reached forward and tugged him to a sitting position.
"Tyson, we will eat later. Let's get to work already. Iorek, how about you work on that one while we work on this one?" She suggested before putting on gloves and pulling out a bowl to place the strawberries in. "Just be careful. Even if you can hold a lot of strawberries you don't want to squish them while trying to pick them." Lil reminded him as she watched the raevan squish the strawberry that had caught his eye by mistake.
Reks just stared curiously as the red juice dribbled down his finger and ran down his arm. "Oh....Whoops..." He muttered softly. "Can I have a towel or wipe, Lil?" Reks asked as he turned to look back at his guardian as she worked diligently.
"Yeah sure, wipes are in the basket and the towels are next to Tyson." She replied without looking up from her strawberry picking.
Iorek nodded and drifted down to scoop up the towels but before he could rip off a piece and wipe away the sticky red trail someone beside them spoke up.
"Howdy!"
All three lifted their heads to check and see who was talking to them.
"Oh!" Lillian blinked and returned the wave, leaning over to bump Tyson on the side as a reminder for him to do the same. The lad gave a sigh and quickly turned to wave to the woman before popping another strawberry in his mouth.
Iorek smiled gently at the kids and floated over to the woman. He had the paper towels in his hand so it seemed best for him to go over. She had yet to flinch or gasp so approaching her surely would not cause the woman to faint or have some kind of breathing attack. "I'm Iorek, and that's-"
"Lillian." The young woman replied with a smile.
"And Tyson." The boy said with an identical smile to his sister's before eating another strawberry.
Reks chuckled and lowered himself closer to Doucette as he extended his large arm with the towels in his grasp. "Here, Miss Doucette, we have two other rolls so you may have this one."

"Thanks so much," Doucette gushed at the offered roll of paper towels, though she only took a few sheets (and a little extra just in case) before offering it back, "I made it this far in the day, I doubt I'll need the full roll." She also wanted to mention that they might just be needing the whole thing with the way Tyson was going through his berry diet, but she didn't want to be rude.
Doe gave a lick to one sheet of the paper towel, not having come nearly as prepared as the others and thus with no water to wet the piece of paper. "I do hope my face isn't totally banjaxed," the woman commented more to herself than anyone as she scrubbed at her cheek and forehead, delighted when she saw the dirt coming off. Unfortunately only about half had come up when she decided to stop and as such she looked just as silly before.
Folding the rest of the paper up and tucking it into her pocket for future emergencies she gave a wide grin to the two before turning her attention back to the one that introduced himself as Iorek.
"Sorry if I'm, you know, being rude," she started, twisting her hands together as she spoke, showing her nerves, "It's only. I think you must surely be one of the Raevans, and yet, you look so very different." Doucette flushed at the words came tumbling out and she quickly covered her mouth with one hand, looking shamed. "By different I mean..." but she trailed off without finding the right words to say.
It wasn't that the floating gray torso was scary or strange or disturbing or funny or really anything of that nature, simply that he wasn't like the other raevans she'd met. He was far more interesting. Raevan's like Ripley and Rivener, they looked more like people in elaborate costumes. Ioreks looked magical.

Reks didn't seem offended in the least. The male had been among humans for quite some time now and had grown used to their varying reactions to his presence. Some screamed, others turned the opposite direction and ran, three had fainted, and a few like Doucette were welcoming and warm. He merely chuckled as he retrieved the paper-towel roll from her hand. "A beast?" Reks stated calmly with a smile restig innocently on his lips. That's how he looked after all? A powerful monster who had no quite achieved the shape of man.
"Mmm...not to worry for you are correct. There is nothing wrong with speaking the truth. I certainly am a raevan." His lips drew back to reveal canine teeth as he grinned and laughed under his breath. "I don't believe there are other creatures missing the rest of their body floating around...unless you've seen something I have not?"
With eyes that diligently watched hers, the only time he looked away was then his ears raised. Slowly he turned his body around and floated back to where the kids were seated and working on picking plenty of strawberries. Once he reached their blanket, the raevan lowered himself to their level and dug one hand into the basket (he wasn't able to fit his other hand in it) and retrieved a plastic tube. Nodding his head to the them he floated back to Doucette.
The lass, although older than his children, reminded him of their antics. He had been watching her try and remove the dirt from her face and when she only removed half of it Reks found it time to intervene. There just had to be a pause in their conversation to get the wet wipes.
"Umm...excuse me." He muttered as he carefully reached in and ripped a wipe off of the many that sat in the tube. "You just, well, you've missed a few spots." Iorek mumbled in a shy manner as he adjusted his body so they were at eye-level. Without another word he started to reach with the wipe towards her face.
"Oh..." The raevan blinked when he realized what he was doing just before he started to get rid of the grime. She wasn't Tyson or Lillian even if she resembled their actions and a sheepish smile broke the cheerful one. His ears lowered and his cheeks gained a pink tint to them as he hovered infront of her fully embarrassed. "S-Sorry...here." Reks reached over her hand and placed the wipe in her palm. "T-That should help you better than the paper towels."

A snort proceeded a sort of strangled laugh that came out of the woman and she pinched her nose to keep from doing it again. "A beast?" she repeated, her voice strangled somewhat between the pinched nose and the laugh that was trying to force its way out. "I don't watch many movies, but you don't look anything like a beast to me." Doucette wasn't really attempting to be soothing or anything of the sort. The way Iorek smiled made her feel more comfortable about how he felt about himself and she shook her curls after getting herself under control. "Definitely not a beast." Beasts don't go berry picking and offer towels with which to clean one's face with.
Helplessly her hands fluttered about at his question, cheeks burning with a blush all the way up to her ears. "I'm sorry I just...I only actually met any of you in the past month,"" she confided guiltily, motioning at his lower half before worrying that might be considered horrifically rude, or possibly even lewd! "At this point I can't help but wonder if there's other odd things...floating around." Doucette coughed. It was a common enough phrase, but of course it happened to be strangely fitting and odd for their current situation.
Brows furrowed upon her forehead as he leaning in towards her with the wet wipes. After all, he had prefaced what he was doing, so it wasn't like he was just lunging himself at her suddenly. But she did feel a bit better when he handed her the wipe instead. Doucette was an adult after all, but she appreciated the offer all the same and gave him a wide grin as she scrubbed the wipe against her cheek. "Tell me if I get it all?"
She couldn't help it. Iorek was so nice. Not that the other Raevan's she'd met hadn't been nice (though let's face it, the majority had skirted the line between pleasant and haughty). But there was something nurturing and sweet about him. Isn't that always how it goes with the "beasts"?
"Are they...yous?" she asked for lack of a better term, unsure as to who was the guardian of whom with Iorek being such a gentleman and all. Not that the other two didn't look like they couldn't take care of themselves (especially the girl) but it would appear more that he was babysitting, than that those two were the guardians.

Iorek smiled at the lass as she denied his own opinion of himself, her laughter causing him to relax further. He floated beside her, watching Doucette gesture and move as she spoke. Such a active soul was very captivating to the raevan.
"Mmmm, don't be embarrassed. The blush is very pretty but no need to fret." Iorek chuckled and shook his head as she motioned to her lower half. "I understand if you're a little flustered, meeting so many raevans in under a month must be quite a shock to the system."
Slowly his hands moved into the green foliage to start picking a few of the berries as they chatted. Although he was ready to continue the conversation he still had a job to do for his family. Using one hand to hold the berries and another to pick he could accomplish what was needed and also resist anymore awkward moments with wiping juice away. "I suppose there are a few odd things floating around, but I rather not find them right now."
Iorek's vivid green eyes watched as Doucette dabbed and rubbed away all the stickiness. After gathering about ten berries the lad nodded his head, his thick hair moving along with the simple gesture like a lion's mane. "There you go, it's all gone now."
His eyes then moved to the duo he had come with and nodded with ease. "Why yes they are. But I do believe I am their's....I think...?" His brows knitted together as he pondered for a moment before shaking his own question away from his cranium. "Since I came into this world I have been in their care. The lass is Lillian and the young lad is Tyson. They are my family." In such few words the wide grin and delightful glint in his eyes sounded to the public that Iorek was swelling with pride for the misfit group he now called his own.

The woman's grin only grew wider at the male's words, and the blush all that more pronounced, but she managed to nod along with what he was saying and not distract herself with her own mental dialogues on modesty and the such. Somehow it always seemed to be her that had a problem with the way her face lit up like a tree in Christmas, everyone else said it was cute. Well, at least Iorek had said pretty. That was a step up in her opinion, and it further raised the grayish Raevan in her esteems. "Yes, there is quite a lot to take in, but I'm also very excited about meeting everyone. Even more excited to meet my own," she finished breathing and more to herself than her conversation partner.
Turning her head, Doe looked over at Lillian and Tyson, grinning as she watched the two of them together and thinking of her own life as a single child. Family to her only included a mother and a father, possibly even her pugs. To tell the truth, she was quite excited to be adding to her family with the up-coming Raevan.
"Perhaps you simply belong to each other," she grinned, putting away the towel now that Iorek had approved of her clean features. "Have you been with them very long?" Blue eyes flickered between the two, clearly taking in their younger age but not so much judging as simply accepting. Even more, she longed to ask deeper questions, such as what exactly they as guardians did for Iorek. The closer she got to having her own Raeven (or becoming someone's human) the more nervous she was that she wouldn't live up to the standard. Perhaps Lillian and Tyson could give her some pointers.

Iorek followed her gaze and watched as the kids picked the berries, talking amongst themselves about whatever topic popped into one another's head. His little family was eccentric and a minority amongst the single "parents" aka guardians of the lab. But he couldn't imagine living with one and not the other. Like doves they came in pairs and couldn't be separated.
"Mmm...I wouldn't doubt that. We belong to one another and even if they'll say we got stuck together overall we're happy." The raevan chuckled as he recalled all the things they got into over the course of being a family. "How long have I...?" The raevan closed his eyes as he tried to count just exactly how long he had been attached to the bumbling duo. "Two. I believe it has been two years now. I recall vaguely being brought to their home by a friend of the family and..." He shrugged casually over something that had changed all of their lives, "That was that." The gargoyle's gray cheeks took on a pink-ish glow as he realized how corny and cliche his answer was. Hopefully the young miss could forgive him for sounding like such a goof.
His brilliant green eyes were revealed when he opened his eyes once more. The youth smiled at Doe as he plopped a berry into her basket. "Do you have anymore questions? I'd be happy to answer them or at least try to. I know you must be curious if you're having someone joining your family. Course we all vary in personality and looks but in some ways the raevans are similar."

The woman put a finger to her chin, the head canting to the side slightly and her gaze wandered to the wispy clouds puffing their way across the sky, obviously trying to put her thoughts together without the raevan's curious gaze distracting her. Not that there was anything particularly distracting about it, just that Doe was particularly distractable. "Only two?" The startled question came out slightly more blunt that she'd hoped and her attention snapped back to the frei before her. "Then you must age quicker than humans?" Doe pondered, half to herself, half as a question to him. It was certainly important to know how the growing up process was going to work. All the raevan's she'd met had been teenage or adult like in looks, but she'd just naturally assumed they'd all been teenage or adult like in age as well.
Doucette sighed and stretched out her legs, cramping and irritable for spending so long huddling next to a berry bush. "To be honest, I have many questions, but most come without words to express them." The woman worked her lower lip between her teeth for a long moment, trying to figure out how to put all her discomfort and curiosity into sentences with a question at the end.
"Maybe if you could just...tell me some of the basics? What do you eat without a...ah," the red head motioned vaguely at the space where a stomach should have been before continuing, "And how about sleep? I mean, what's daily life like? What do I need to do to prepare? What about clothes?"
