Bath time. Not exactly a time that Tiepet hated or anything, seeing as she took one daily just like all the other candidates, but considering many of the others always gave the herder a wide berth whenever she entered the waters it made it a little difficult for her to enjoy. She was mostly avoided (so she thought) because of the way she always smelled whenever it was time to bathe, or because of how filthy both she and her clothes seemed to be. Tie was proud to be dirty - it meant she was doing her job. Apparently the others weren't so inclined to think that way.
Her clothing was shed and placed into a pile, ready to be collected and washed with that of all the others when it came time to do laundry, and Tie quickly pushed herself into the warm waters, ignoring her cuts and scrapes. Chores in both helping her family and candidate duties had worn her thin and tired, her poor body not quite used to double the abuse. Her hands and feet were rough and meaty, her arms and legs covered in fine little scratches from carrying things here and there. If the water stung this bad, how would the soapsand feel come time to clean herself? Tiepet shuddered, not wanting to think about it.

Let's be frank here. On your average day, back home, Adriaetta would have avoided anyone with any sort of smell with the best of them. But it was not an average day. It was not home. It was a day in candidacy and one where she hadn't been able to find Kelos to 'help' her with her chores.
And that made for a very sad, dirty, pathetic Adriaetta. An Adriaetta who frankly didn't care who she was near as long as their was water, that water was warm, and she could get all of the, well... filth off of her.
She was filthy. Her usually perfect hair hung limply around her face. Her expression could best be described as 'teary'. And when she sank in, she barely seemed willing to keep her head above the water.
She hated it. She hated it all. If she wasn't so, well, convinced she must have been right to come, she'd go home. Home, where people were nice to her. Home, where she didn't have chores. Home. Snuffling pathetically, Adriaetta remained completely oblivious of anything but her her own self-centered misery.

Now, seeing as others avoided Tiepet it would be natural for her to warrant them the same amount of courtesy, yet she couldn't help but overhear one of the female who just entered sounding like she was weeping. Such sounds were not too uncommon for Tie to hear, seeing as she cried a good deal at night whenever she longed for her mother and father, but it was odd for her to hear them from someone else. Most of the people in the Weyr kept emotions to themselves since it was not that popular to wear them on their sleeves (so to say), so. . . Tie wanted to know what was up. Curiosity was outweighing her timidity, or so it seemed.
Slowly, ever so slowly (and covered with soapsand, she'd decided to lather while listening), Tie made her way through the water and over to this other girl's side. Most of the smell of the fields was off her, save the smell of the grasses, and her clean face sparkled healthy. Stopping a foot away, Tie gently ruffled the water in order to get this other Candidate's attention.
"Ah...are...are you okay?"
She drew her hands back against her chest, tilting her head ever so slightly as if she were waiting. A black figure swam in the water about her waist, having join her only moments before. It let out a rather pathetic cheep as it too waited, wondering what would happen next.

If Adriaetta had heard that Weyrfolk kept their feelings to themselves, well, she certainly hadn't taken it to heart, that much was clear. The moment that the other girl approached her, she went from sniffling to breathing in long shuddering gasps with little whimpers in between.
"No." The word came out in a whining little whisper. But, words, when it came to Adriaetta, did not stop so quickly as that. "No. No. I am not okay. I don't, I don't like this place! The chores are hard and the people are mean and when I try to talk to people they just send me on more chores."
She bit her lip, chocking back the urge to give herself completely over to sobbing. "My hands. They're a mess. I have-- I have a scab on my knee. A scab! And I couldn't find Kelos! She's supposed to help me. She always helps me. And I think, I think one of the runners tried to bite me. Do runners bite? Mine never did! It's dreadful and I hate it and I think I want to go home!"

"I try to stay away from the runners when I work in the pens, because I don't want to get kicked. I've never been bitten, but I've been kicked before."
Now that the other girl had started to talk and try to cry, Tie was at a loss as how to respond. Her spoken words about runners probably was not a good idea, but what else could she do? Her inability to find what she wanted to say wasn't that much of a surprise since she was all but forcing herself to talk from the very beginning.
"I...I know Kleos. I think she is really nice too, and I'm sorry about your scab. At least it will heal quickly and hopefully won't scar?"
Tie needed to open her mouth and insert her foot if she kept talking this way, but what else could she do? The black blur swimming in the water about her waist circled closer, and she shuddered a bit at the feeling of hide on flesh.
"I was born here."
