Going clockwise from the gold egg

Bold 'n Gold Egg - This egg is a mellow gold colour with a bright stripe down its very center. The egg sits upright, tall and proud, royal. It seems to enjoy the perfection of its posture and an undercurrent of irritation may be detected but at who, or what, it is directed is unclear.

Half and Half Egg - Half red, half orange this egg stands proud as well. However, it has an easy sort of pride, perhaps even noble. If the egg is any indication, it will likely be a bronze or a brown.

Purple Spotted Egg - This egg, for all its brightness and busy patterning is quiet. It lays on its side as if distracted, pointing off to where activity always seems to accumulate. Perhaps it is curious? Its size indicates a green or a blue, perhaps a small brown.

Brown Patchy Egg - It's been noted this egg tends to move a lot, wiggling this way and that, turning from one egg to another... but touching it never seems to yield the same impression twice. Regardless, a strong wit and intelligence is easily felt from this small egg. Some have guessed it to be a green or a blue.

Grapejuice Dip Egg - This egg is dark, but settled in the center of a cluster, tilted just slightly away from the larger eggs behind it. Again, this one is proud and seems to enjoy the company of a woman's touch. It's small for an egg, almost certainly a green.

Orange Art Splotch Egg - The shell on this one is bright and contrasting but those who draw dear note a sort of anticipation within. Awe, impatience... it's as if this one has plans for the outside. A decent size, this could be a green, a blue, or a brown.

Abstract Bowtie Egg - This egg is bright, bold, and strong. It's set forward in the bunch and seems content with that positioning. A feeling of confidence, and of being in control is almost certain to greet a curious hand. Its size indicates a green or a blue.

Teal Swirl Egg - A pretty shade of teal, this egg has refused to remain upright despite any attempts to correct it. However, it stands on its top end, bold and playful in this display. Some worry about it, others laugh. Either a green or a blue.

New Day Egg - This brilliant egg is a breath of fresh air. Calm and pleasant, it's almost like taking that first stretch in the crisp morning air after a good sleep. New days bring new promises and this one is full of such pleasantness. Probably a green or a blue.

Inner Light Egg - The light green spotlight dot on this egg almost looks like it's glowing from the inside. Those who touch this egg will find it friendly and welcoming. Perhaps its shell is indicative of the dragon within? A blue or a brown, judging from the size.

Grey Speckle Egg - This egg is, well, irate. Grumpy, it leans away from the friendly Inner Light egg and towards its neighbour... though it doesn't seem particularly happy about that egg either. Disapproving and, perhaps, set in its ways, this egg is sure to be a strong willed individual. Either a blue or a small brown.

Red Slash Egg - In a word, this egg is angry. Why? Nobody really knows but something's sure got its temper up. It leans towards the Grey Speckle egg as it challenging it, and anyone else nearby. It's size belies the fierceness, however, and is almost certainly a green or a blue.

Event Horizon Egg - This egg is all shades of blue, but there are stripes of a light, stark blue cutting across the bands. It's a tiny egg, definitely a green, but despite the size there's an almost ridiculous sense of vanity about this one. It huddles with the other larger eggs, and strains to be seen for it should be seen, right?

Royal Bands Egg - Though this egg is tilted away from the Bold 'n Gold and Half and Half eggs, it isn't because of a dislike. Indeed, the Half and Half egg is resting upon the Royal Bands egg as if supported by it and the tilt enables a better view of the new queen's egg. Indeed, this dragon is content and supportive, welcoming to any touch. It's size indicates a brown or a bronze.

The Touching has Begun!

The eggs were hard and the Candidates were all acquainted with life at the Weyr. It was time. Touchings were an ancient tradition of the Weyrs and no less important then the Hatching itself – at least in Eirlyn’s opinion. She found much value in letting the Candidates walk among the eggs and acquaint themselves with the growing dragonets, it always seemed to instill a sort of determination in them that she quite appreciated.

That, and she couldn’t help but be proud of Feynath. There was a gold egg on the sands and it had stirred up attention among even the Old Weyrs. Golds were rare, even more so in recent Turns and her dear Feynth had produced queens nearly every clutch. As far as Eirlyn was concerned that gave her the right to be proud – her Weyr was prospering.

Standing beside the large, dark gold, she gestured to the Candidate master to allow the prospective riders in. Beside her, Feynath’s eyes swirled slowly orange, yellow, and blue… she never liked letting the Candidates near her eggs, especially the gold egg, and it hadn’t been long into her career as a goldrider that Eirlyn had discovered that she had to be present to keep the queen from terrifying the youths. Even with her presence and touch and constant mental soothing, the gold still mantled her wings and shifted, head low to the ground as she watched.

Beyond the Sands, the Candidatemaster hollered for the candidates to line up, “Alright! Get out, bow to Feynath and thank her, then file through the eggs. Don’t linger too long and for shard’s sake, don’t fall. Start on this side and go across to the person waiting on the other side. If you linger too long, I’ll retrieve your arse faster’n a Hatchling downs a meal, understood!?” He clapped the nearest person on the back then swept the unfortunate soul forward into the sands. They almost bawked, caught off guard by the gesture, and awkwardly found their balance.

The Touching had begun.

.....Tiepet would rather pass, thank you very much. Touchings were fun, but they made her go out there in front of that terrifying Queen! She had nothing against the marvelous dragon of course, seeing as she was providing the Weyr clutch after clutch with future Queens to protect them all, but there was something about not being able to be where she'd wanted to be that made the Timid Shepherd a little on the edge. Still, leaving her flitters at the fields with her mother and father, she made her way into the group to join the others out on the Sands. The touching was tradition, after all.

As each person slowly made their way out, Tie trying not to be first but certainly not to be last, she paused where she was supposed to and looked up at the mighty Queen. Two turns worth of clutches this girl had come out and and looked at the wondrous dragon, and still the shock and awe from something so large an majestic never wore off on her. It still inspired a bit of fear in her heart, but also a strong sense of respect.

Once again Feynath, I thank you for allowing me to walk amongst your eggs. May I continue to be allowed come future Turns and future clutches, so long as your clutches grace these Sands.

It was a pretty good thing that Tie didn't stutter in her thoughts or else that message, were the Queen to hear it, would have been awkward and taken nearly three times the time to say it. Her gracious thanks were given with a bow as well, one that was deep and nearly made her overly loose shirt (she had a sunburn, ouch!) roll up and over her shoulders. It was quickly pulled back down into place as she started out amongst the eggs, her thick and heavy boots causing her to be sluggish as she moved.

Zeren stared, he'd never seen a Queen Dragon before, and she seemed menacing in protection of her eggs. He winced as the Candidatemaster hollered for them all to line up. Looking around at the other Candidates he followed as they lined up, then gawped as he found himself at the front of the line.

Suddenly he was shoved forwards, almost tripping over his feet, His face burned with shame as he recovered before he fell. Glanicing towards the Queen he bowed low, careful to not meet her glowing eyes.

I thank you for allowing me to be among your eggs oh brilliant shining Queen

Moving forwards carefully, he put his hand to the first egg, gasping as he felt its hard shell, not surprisingly it was warm to the touch. He smiled as he realised the importance of the moment. Blinking he moved away from that egg, and moved among the rest, stopping breifly at next egg, familiarising himself with the texture and the feelings from them.

It was that time again: time for the touchings to begin. This wasn't Azuran's first touching, but that didn't necessarily make him much less anxious than any of the previous times. It was quite the event after all. He waited patiently among the other candidates for his turn before stepping forward and giving the queen dragon a low and respectful bow. Thank you, dear Feynath, for once again allowing me the honor of approaching your eggs. I know you are not fond of this, so I won't take long. The queen's restlessness was quite apparent from her fidgeting and the color changes in her eyes, but he respected her for being so protective of her clutch.

As he approached the clutch, the first egg he reached out to was the red and green egg near the front. A strong feeling of confidence greeted him upon first touch, and he blinked a second before smiling softly. Well, glad to see you are so confident in yourself. You will make a fine dragon. He moved on next to the upside-down teal swirl egg beside it. Somehow this odd display amused him, and even as he touched it's surface he could sense the playfulness of the dragon within. A soft chuckle escaped his lips. You are a funny one. I hope you find a good partner. Suddenly mindful that he was starting to linger, the ebony-haired youth moved on, making room for others to come and touch as well.

Wykla watches as the first several candidates enter the hatching grounds. So it had begun, her first Touching. It was now or never, she thought. If the Candidate master didn't allow her in for this, she wouldn't be allowed to stand at the Hatching.

She goes to walk stiff legged past the Candidate master. Half expecting him to grab her shoulder as she passes and say she's too young still. Her eyes flash towards him with half hidden anger and anticipation for the touching, just let him try to stop her.

Mercy hadn't known exactly what to expect for her first touching, she'd been so worried about how things would go at the actual hatching that she hadn't spared much thought for the touching. Now that she was here however she was well aware that it was just as important as the hatching itself and she certainly wasn't going to miss out on the chance to get a closer look at the eggs...to feel the young dragons inside.

When the candidate master bellowed for them to line up Mercy tried in vain to place herself somewhere in the middle of the line. She didn't want to be first -she'd leave that to some of the others, perhaps some of the weyrbred candidates who had an inkling of what was to come - but she didn't want to be last either as no doubt the golden Faynath would grow increasingly anxious as time wore on. No the middle seemed like the best place to be and Mercy was pleased with herself as she managed to get there.

As several people filed past the eggs in front of her Mercy watched carefully as they bowed and then went through the eggs. She knew they had also thanked the Dragon and pondered what she herself was going to say to the pretty Queen.

Far to quickly it was her turn to approach the eggs and their watchful mother. Hesitating for only a moment she took a deep breath and then marched onto the sands, upon reaching the same spot everyone else had stopped to bow and thank the Queen Mercy did as well, Bowing low in the fashion her mother had taught her as a youth. I am sorry to cause you distress beautiful Feynath, but I do so gratefully thank you for allowing me the privilege of walking amidst your eggs She told the queen respectfully, standing up again and beginning what she had plotted out to be the most logical path through the eggs.

Alurel slipped on to the sands quietly and surveyed the surroundings - everything seemed normal enough for a hatching thankfully so he followed the instructions that the candidate master laid out which were pretty much the instructions from every other hatchings. It was a little methodical but it got the job done. So Alurel took a few steps forward and gave a small bow to the queen, "Thank you for allowing me to walk among your children."

After his words were spoken he stood gracefully and waited his turn patiently to touch the first egg he could reach. Even if the candidate master wanted them to be quick about it, Alurel knew that was rarely the case. Most kids got distracted by the shiny shells but for all his years at the Weyr, he was pretty sure that the dragons in the eggs decided almost instantly who was the right person.

So it was easy enough for him to reach out to the first egg and not get too enthralled by its color. But the sensation of the one inside always seemed to take his breath away. The feelings of a dragon whether one destined for him or not. It was a distinct pleasure of feeling sensations that one day would be exclusive to one rider alone. But for now were open to everyone...

He smiled a bit at the confident demeanor offered up by the dragon within. He responded in kind with his own mental sense of purpose. Nothing said but the assurance that this world would be a welcome one.

Lifting his hand up and away as gently as he placed it, he moved on to the awkward egg that stood on its tip. He could only guess at the mischief destined for someone here. But he knew that numerous people would be suitable for this soul. However, to avoid getting to caught in the idea of playing he pulled his hand back and maneuvered around to the third egg in this small
set.

If anything this egg had the right idea, taking a relaxed approach to the world it hadn't even seen yet. Maybe someone that was a bit fiery would benefit from such a calm soul. He had to admit that the feeling could rub off easily, even on himself.

But his own sense of timing wouldn't allow him to get distracted because he didn't want to get bumped by another candidate. Any fall would just agitate the quiet. So as he shifted around and headed across the sand to the next small group, he figured he do them as a line straight across and thus make good time.

That led his soft hand across an egg that felt like someone had woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Grumping about your situation won't help you at all. Think about it...your stuck in a shell for now, he thought with a healthy retort as he leaned in for a moment of consideration taking a good hard look at the eggs surrounding it. Then, moved to the egg beside it feeling a similar state of mind - angry. He wanted to sit and contemplate the matter between the eggs. Not that he was one to deal with bullishness individuals but within the shell they were easier to digest. Why were these youths already head to head, he didn't understand but it interested his questioning mind.

The need for an answer almost caused him to forget his sense of timing and soon he had to scurry off to the next egg. This time the egg was green and welcoming. Such a shift even though so close to the others. Smiling gently, he had a feeling that the warmth projected here would fit well to almost anyone. Although the friendly nature didn't seem to rub off on the clutch mates so close by.

Right next to the teal egg was an egg whose shell was reminiscent of the dawn itself. Even the feel of the dragon within was as pleasant as the eggs outward appearance. Do keep that calm demeanor. You seem quite nice. Passing by the dawn egg, he moved on to the middle row to greet the baby dragons there. The first egg he touched however nearly made him recoil. Whoa, settle down there, he thought to the egg with the angry red slashes. You haven't even hatched yet; there's no need to be so upset already. Whoever ended up with that dragon would probably have their hands full.

The grey egg right next to it wasn't entirely happy either. Angry neighbors do rather suck, don't they? he thought with a faint smile to the grumpy egg below his finger tips. Perhaps he would just pass this one on...

Oh, you feel nice, Azuran thought to himself with a mix of mild surprise and relief. This green egg was a welcome change from its previous two siblings. Perhaps your siblings can take a lesson from you and be a little less hostile, hm? He pet the surface of that egg fondly for a moment before moving on again.

Rhilira felt pressured as she was bustled on to the sands, but held her face firm and stoic. No need to appear as nervous as she actually was. To her, the Touching was probably what helped the dragonets choose Theirs. It was their first impressions of each Candidate... This was not the time to be nervous - especially with Feynath watching. She remembered a similar situation at her last Touching... She was a Queen who did not particularly like this part.

In all the bustle, Rhilira stopped and gave a deep bow to the dark golden queen and the Weyrwoman. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity, golden queen Feynath. I am appreciative of your kindness. She rose fro her bow, radiating the feeling of her mental message as much as she could - since she didn't know if the queen would even hear it - and moved toward the eggs. She could feel the soles of her feet heating up on the sand, and she moved on. No need to occupy the queen's space too long anyway, especially with so many candidates to get on to the sands.

The first she approached was the Red Slash Egg, and she gently placed her hand upon it, though only to withdraw it quickly. It was not a welcome presence she received - it seemed like the dragonet inside was unhappy with her, or perhaps with the entire situation in general. Feeling uneasy, with that being her first Touching of this clutch, she quickly moved on. No need to linger where she felt so unwanted...

Moving from the warm atmophere of the seemingly glowing green egg, Zeren moved towards a Greyish coloured one, speckled with lighter dots, smiling to himself a little at the aura of grumpiness from it. Upon touching it, he get a better impression I dont like this much either, too many people he sypmathised with it, moving on to the next egg.

He was filled with wonder at being here, his feelings of inaequecy bubbling up, he tried to keep the negative thoughts to himself, having been told that it could put a hatchling off, and he didnt want to risk putting a dragon off, not even at this stage. He wanted to Impress, to show his parents that he WAS good enough by himself, surely his sister would NEVER have gone to a hatching, least of all be a candidate at one.

Kentori smoothed his robes as they were rushed on to the sands - this was the worst of times to look unpresentable, except, perhaps, at the Hatching... As he passed in front of Feynath he bowed and gave her a smile, gratitude dancing in his eyes. Thank you, Feynath, for letting me be here with you among your eggs. I promise not to be too long. He found it clear that their presence as a whole was relatively unwelcome, even though he wasn't the best at reading dragons, still being new to the Weyr and all. However, the general tension of some of the other, more seasoned candidates, as well as the Weyrwoman's close presence to her ever-watchful queen made it quite apparent.

Moving quickly on, he made his way through the other candidates and stopped first at the Teal Swirl Egg, resting his hand on it and immediately smiling. It was good to know the dragonet inside seemed to like him, and he suddenly felt like running around the sands a few times just to get moving. He found it difficult to move on from the egg, but did so as other Candidates bustled around, though the smile remained on his face. Since he was there, he just shifted slightly over to lay his hand on the New Day Egg. The smile remained on his face, though it had a much more serene quality to it now, and he felt himself take a deep breath of the warm, heavy air. He liked this egg just as much as the last. Keep moving, though, keep moving. There are lots of eggs!

Lothan didn't need to be pushed; rather he strode firmly out onto the sands. Nerves and anticipation had him tense all over, but he strove not to show that anxiety; wouldn't do to look nervous, even if he was. Feynath was watching the candidates; he bowed and framed a careful phrase in his head. Thank you for letting us touch your eggs, lovely, strong Feynath. I'm honored.

Then he moved out among the eggs, wandering among the clusters, reaching out to brush his fingers against the shells. This one - the one that seemed to glow within with gentle green - felt easy to touch, and his hand lingered on the shell, palm settling briefly against the curve. I greet thee, he said to it. Could dragons hear from within the shell? Nobody seemed to know, but certainly it couldn't hurt to try.

He moved on, stepping up towards the cluster of larger eggs. The largest he avoided respectfully. A gold, certainly, and the young queen wouldn't likely appreciate it. Instead he stroked the shell of the red-brown egg that rested beside it, feeling the heat of the shell; but soon his fingers were drawn instead to the cooler-colored egg that lay beside it. This egg felt friendly, somehow, and he smiled. Hello, he said. You're a handsome one.

He pulled his hand regretfully away from the eggs and turned back towards the entrance. As he rounded a cluster of eggs, his fingertips brushed again against the bright shells, gently, carefully. Soon the hatchlings within would be ready to come out and choose their riders. He hoped, tried not to expect, but hoped fiercely. Soon.

Shards, but that was a big dragon! Inaari had asked around, determined to know as much as possible about the Weyr procedures for Touching and Hatching, along with the temperament of the queen that had clutched. She had also eavesdropped mercilessly and learned that Feynath was always at odds with the youngsters tramping their way through her brood. That made the wood-haired girl even more nervous now, but a quick poke to the bruise at her forearm fought it back with pain, and she took a deep and bracing breath. You never let them see you afraid, it was the first rule in Inaari's mind. Dragons did not choose cowardly riders, and though nervous, she was not a coward!

Stepping forward into the queen's sight, Inaari bowed at the waist as she was taught, audibly and clearly uttering her thanks to the massive body for her patience and permission. Though all the eggs were equally lovely and attention-grabbing with the lurid colors, there was one that drew her the most, and that was the egg sitting on its head. Immediately upon seeing it, she giggled, surprised and clapping a hand over her mouth to hush the sound, smiling as a hand reached out to touch it. "You go your own way, huh?" The texture of the shell was warm and rough, almost like the sand it was resting on. Hesitance turned to interest and a rising giddiness. Out of everyone, she was here, touching the eggs of a dragon. Hoping to Impress a dragon! Talk about going your own way!

Her smile was wide, and didn't dim at all as she moved to the sunrise egg next to it, the base being appealing in that it was the exact shade of her hair, fingertips grazing over the top blue. "Sunrise, new birth. I'd think you'll be a very appropriate, proper little dragon, huh? That's funny, next to your upside-down sibling, isn't it?" Looking up, she noted with little surprise that the larger eggs were garnering the most attention, and why shouldn't they? They were the largest, most impressive dragons. Even her own heart welled with an impossible at the sight of the gold, who wouldn't love to be a queen's rider?

But because she'd been raised to be a practical young woman, Inaari moved on again to the next cluster of three eggs, leaving a soft positive comment at each with a smile. There was something wonderful about each and every one of these future baby dragons, and they would go on to find wonderful riders. With any hope, she would be one of them!
