The remodel of the back reference section was going well enough. The books had all been cleaned up and removed from the area, for sorting and reshelving later, and the old shelves, mostly ruined, were dismantled and taken out of the library by the repair men. They had installed new, metal shelves in their place, rooted to the floors and the walls for support, like the rest of the shelves in the library. It had been a necessary upgrade, considering how old the previous ones had been.
And how some hoodlums had knocked over the shelves like dominoes, nearly killing a girl.
Anthony Darrow, good to his word, had mailed her some law books from the section in an effort to ease his own guilt about the whole thing, and maybe brighten her day whenever she received them. He just marked them as too damaged to be repaired, as some of the others had been from the fall, and moved on.
Now he was in the process of slowly putting everything back on the shelves. Standing on a stool, he was currently working with some rather heavy volumes, though all reference books were entirely too thick and weighed way too much, putting them in order and filling the shelf. It wasn't so high that people without a stepping stool couldn't reach it, but since Tony was only working with one arm he wanted to make things a little easier for himself.
Still, it was tiring endeavor. He left a student worker at the front desk, and was listening to some music on an old CD player in the back, which was just down the hall from the circulation desk. It was loud enough to be heard from there, but didn't filter into the actual library sections. Or at least, that's what Tony told himself so he didn't feel bad about it.

Lily had the book she needed and was about to head out of the library. She was never one to stay for long, she simply got the book she needed and left. She walked along quitely right passed the new renovations.
Stopping for a moment, she wondered what exactly had happened to make them fix the place up. She pushed away the thought thinking maybe the library had simply come into some new funds. She turned to leave when she thought she heard, music?
She took a step back, then a few more peering around a corner and sure enough, their was someone standing on a stool shelving what looked to be very heavy books. Lily watched for a few moment going between the books and the man before deciding that maybe he could use some help.
She came around the corner revealing herself, smiling lightly. "Hello," she said making sure she said it loud enough for him to hear.

Humming along to the music and focused on his efforts with the shelving, he didn't notice the girl come into the area. He was very much enjoying the song, Living on a Prayer, and opened his mouth to sing the chorus when he heard someone say hello, instead, only a yelp escaped. He clung to the shelves, though he wasn't in any danger of falling.
Glad he hadn't been hold a book at the time, he looked around before spotting the girl at the end of the aisle.
"Ah, hello," he said, "do you need any help? This section is supposed to be, ah, off limits for the moment due to renovations." He came down from the stool slowly, trying not to favor his shoulder too much. It was feeling much better now, and he would be getting the itchy stitches out sooner rather than later.
He didn't look like he was kicking her out, though he assumed she was there looking for some help from a librarian. He wondered if the student worker at the desk had wandered off. Again. He really needed to get better help, particularly from the students he was actually paying for their work.
"Do you need to check out a book... or...?"

"Hello," said Lily before blushing furiously. "Oh I'm sorry. I did not see a sign. I just heard you song and I came over. I'm really sorry."
Lily looked down at the floor feeling very embarrassed unsure as to whether she had broken a rule. She really hoped she hadn't as she stood there picking at the hem of her skirt.
When she asked her if she need to check out a books, she shook her head quickly before looking up at him. "I saw you putting up those books and there is a very large quantity of them, so I thought maybe you might like a hand."
Lily took a step back, feeling a bit unsure, "I will go now. I'm sorry again. I shouldn't have interrupted."

Tony watched her as she looked down bashfully, noticing how awkward she looked. He knew that feeling well, though he never had a skirt to tug at shyly. Smiling, he waved his hand dismissively.
"Oh, it's okay. No harm done. It's mostly for those who might come back here and get in trouble. Tip something over or... something. Ah, but you look trustworthy enough not to do something like that, hm?"
He watched her as she made to leave, feeling guilty for making her think she had broken a rule. She hadn't, really, and he was certainly glad for the offer of help. His good arm was getting tired, and having someone to maybe hand him books would be nice.
"If you wanted to help, I could do with it, really. I know I'm not the most effective, as one-armed as I am."

Lily stopped at his words and smiled lightly. 'So he did need help,' she thought to herself as she turned back toward him.
"I would love to help and no, I most certainly would not tip anything over. Oh my, but that would be rather dangerous. I do not think I would be allowed back in the library after such a incident and I do not wish to entertain that thought."
Lily walked over to the man, shuffling her books to one and and extending her free hand. "I am Liliana. I come here often, though I never stay long. I like to take my books home."
She looked around for a moment noting the empty shelves and the books need to be placed back in place. "What exactly do you need help with," she said decided she did not really wish to be forward again after the embarassing moment she'd just had.

Tony smiled, glad to hear that she was fairly polite and seemed to have an aversion to trouble. It was much better than the hooligans that had caused all this mess in the first place, knocking over the bookshelves. At least they had caught one, and he, in turn, had turned in his friends in an effort to get out of trouble.
Tony offered her his good hand and shook hers gently.
"Anthony Darrow. Always here, since... well, it's essentially my library," he laughed at that, since it was hardly necessary to introduce himself in that way. Of course he was the librarian here. He had a name tag, and everything.
He was glad to hear she liked to come in and get books. He got readers in all the time, of course, but they were mostly older people from the community. Students usually came in for research materials for papers, complained about it the whole time, or sat in a corner and silently did their work. He wished there were more students who just liked to read because it was fun.
Not that he had any room to talk: he wasn't much of a reader.
"Well," he said, motioning to the stack of books, "if you could pass those up to me, in order, that would make shelving them easier. I keep having to climb up and down on this stool to do it, and that's wearing me out." He wasn't lying, though he chuckled like it was a joke. He would only make her help for a little while, since she had offered, but he wasn't going to have her stay too long out of being polite.

"Well, Mr. Darrow. It is very nice to meet you. I'd have to say though, it odd that I have never come across you in your library, although maybe not since I rarely stay long." Her words were curious, polite and without sarcasm though the words themself were a bit rude and a little sacrastic.
When he motioned to the books when went over to them, placing her own to the side and picking up on of the books and turned back to Anthony waiting patiently for him to return to his place up on the stool.
"What was that music, I heard? It was kind of loud. I do not think I have ever heard the song and I listen to music as often as I can."
Lily held the book up for Anthony to take, while waiting for the anwser. She was always up for learning a new song, thinking maybe she could add it to her memory.

Tony listened to her, then smiled. So she came to the library but never stayed long? He might have checked a book out to her before, but she said she hadn't run across him before. How odd! True enough, he wasn't always at the desk, but it was strange that she hadn't seen him once before.
He didn't think she was trying to be rude, so he took no offense.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to have it... that loud. That song, ah, lends itself well to being loud. It was 'Livin' on a Prayer'. Bon Jovi? It might be before your time." He chuckled, shaking his head.
He took the book she was handing him, putting it up on the shelf slowly. He smiled, glad for the help. It was much easier on him, and at least it wasn't as mind numbing now. "So you like music, do you? What kind?"

Lily smiled and gave a small laugh, "its okay I understand that some music is meant to be loud. It happens, really it's no big deal. I have heard of Bon Jovi, but I do not think I have heard anything by them. I think I shall have to endeavor to add them to my collection."
Lily picked up another book and held it ready for Tony to take.
"I listen to all sort of music, anything I can get my hands on really, even music in other language. I love to sing, so I listen to a much music as I can. I think my three favorites are Earth Angel, Once Upon a December, and A La Nanita."
Lily smiled sweetly, "What of you?"

Tony grinned a bit. He nodded, glad she was at least being nice about him filling the library with his musical tastes. He should have realized how far the sound carried down the hall. Just because the section was roped off, that didn't mean it was sound proof. Sometimes he wondered how he managed to tie his own shoes, as dumb as he proved himself to be so regularly.
While he was inwardly chastising himself, he was mindlessly working on the reshelving. It was something could do without much thought, the call numbers easy to read and put in the right order after so many years of practice. It skewed his judgment of the system, because it was so easy for him now he had to wonder why it wasn't so simple to others.
Then remind himself he had been there for so long.
Right.
"Other languages, huh? That's impressive, in a way. Cultural. Or perhaps cultured. Either way, it's more than I can say I do. I'm not sure I've ever listened to a full song in another language. I have enough trouble with English, sometimes," he grinned.
He nodded when she said her favorite songs, though he wasn't familiar with them.
"Ah, me? I just listen to... I guess it's 'old' or 'classic' rock to you. Rock to me, one way or another." He grinned.

Lily laughed lightly at his notion that she was cultured. She guess in a way that she was. It was something her parents tried to instill in her, but it most certainly wasn't because of music. She just loved music and most of the time it really did not matter what it was.
She scanned the books quickly while he spoke and found herself giggle slightly, "Surely being a librarian you cannot have to much trouble with the English language. Surely you must read all the time?"
She picked up a few books with decimals codes that were in the same range and plucked a few to hand to Tony. She really did not know what to say to his comment on music so instead she chose not to comment. To her music was music.

Tony shook his head, taking the books carefully and putting them on the shelf one by one. He wasn't going to make her stay and help him for much longer, feeling guilty for it now that he reminded himself that he was the only one getting paid for it. When those books were on the shelf, he sighed and looked at her, getting down from the stool.
"Actually, I don't read that much. I read some things, on one or two topics, but for the most part I simply know titles and authors, and what other people have told me about those books. A lot of people like to talk about what they're reading, which is how I get my knowledge." He laughed, knowing that was a terrible way for a librarian to work, but he couldn't help it.
He had never been much of a reader.
"I can handle the rest of it. I'm sure you've better things to do than this. I mean, even I have better things to do, and this is my job. Which I love." He chuckled, shaking his head. He smiled though, offering her his good hand for a shake.
"Thank you for your help, though, it was very kind of you."

"Oh," she said not expecting his words. She stood there mauling them over for a few moments and she almost did not hear him politely dismiss her.
She looked up him slightly confused, as the words ran through her brain and she processed the slowly. After a moment, she smiled. "It is no problem really. A lot of my time actually consists of volunteering believe it or not. I enjoy it and it will also look good on my college applications. I will begin the application process this year, for next year will be my senior year."
Lily stepped back and took her book up from where she placed it. She laughed thinking on his words. He was a very strange librarian. Not reading and wishing to be outside the library, she could hardly believe it.
"You are quite the eccentric Mr. Darrow, very interesting," she said with a smile, "Are you quite certain that you do not need any more help. I really do not need to be elsewhere."
Lily's words were true though it did not mean there was not something she could be doing, such as practicing the piano or memorizing a new song.

Tony smiled, though he was wondering if he should be offended that she thought he was so strange. No, he decided, since she seemed amused and not mocking him in anyway. As far as he could tell anyway.
And it was strange for him to not like to read, when he was surrounded by books. So he couldn't blame her for sticking to the common idea of a librarian, a booky sort of person who read everything ever put to paper. It wasn't the first time someone had been surprised to learn he didn't like reading very much.
He pulled his hand back, since she didn't take it for a handshake, and put it in his pocket leisurely instead.
"I'm really certain. It'll take me all day to do this, even with help, and I don't want to burden you with that. Ah, is that your book, or would you like to check it out? I can help you with that, if no one has yet." He was sure there was someone at the front counter, but his arm was hurting and he wanted to take a break anyway.
