Insects buzzed unseen in a low fog that rolled through the swamp. Weeping Mist's hooves fell softly on the ground as she wandered lost in thought. A mongoose darted in and out of the undergrowth, always keeping the lavender doe in sight.

A squeal, silenced quickly, brought doe's attention back to her surroundings. The mongoose appeared from the underbrush with a small mouse clenched in it's jaws. Weeping Mist grinned down at her pet mongoose and his offering. “Thanks, Fin, but I've already eaten.”

User Image From some distance, though not too far, a low song teeters and falls through the thick swamp air. It is accompanied by the sweet voice of a songbird that seems to glide almost effortlessly with the haunting melody of the other voice. After only a few more moments of this, a blue-green and cream colored buck emerges from the thick of Cypress roots and swamp fern.

Upon sighting the doe, the buck's singing drifts off on a final, lonely note that hangs in the air like baited breath. Finally, Soul Drift smiles at the other and takes a step nearer,

"Why... hello. It's not often that I come across other kimeti, though always a pleasure. Who might you be? The Swamp calls me Soul Drift, and this is Spectre, and Pearlsong," he indicates the graceful crane at his side with a bob of his head.

"Hello," replied Weeping Mist. "I'm called Weeping Mist." Glancing around her, she added, "I guess I'm lost. I have a bad habit of not paying attention to where I'm going. I get lost in my thoughts, I'm afraid."

The mongoose dropped the mouse and scurried to stand between the lavender doe's legs. "Oh, and this is Fin." The mongoose squeaked at the sound of his name while keeping an eye on the large beak of the crane.

Smiling back at the buck, she said, "That was a lovely song you were singing."

"Nice to meet you," he says pleasantly, the small smile still lingering on his features, "and thank you--- singing helps to fill the quiet. You're not really lost, though. The Swamp always guides us. Though maybe if you tell me where you live I can help you find your way back home. You see, I've traveled the Swamp since I was a young foal. The Motherfather whispers for me, and I follow."

After a moment of circling them, the songbird alights on one of Soul Drift's horns, ruffling it's feathers and watches Weeping Mist curiously.

"How long have you been lost out here?"

"As you said, I'm not really lost. Mother Swamp always help me find my way home." Weeping Mist chuckled softly. "I like to wander and explore, but sometimes I forget to pay attention to my surroundings."

Swishing her tail self-consciously, Weeping Mist asked, "Do you live around here?"

Soul smiles, kindly and patiently at her. There's a kind of presence a bout him, something nice and solid-- confident and calm.

"Mn... if you mean do I have a den around here somewhere, then no," again he smiles. "I sleep when I am tired, and eat when I am hungry, and all other times I am on the move. Sometimes I pause when I come across others, such as yourself, and spend a time with them exchanging stories and things.. but I am not of the settling kind, I think..." He pauses, thoughtfully.. "... The Motherfather will let me know when it is time to settle, when my dreams are once again still and quiet, and do not leave me feeling anxious to move in the mornings."

Weeping Mist's curiosity about this newly met Kimeti grew when he mentioned his wandering habits. They were much like her own.

"There is much of Mother Swamp to be explored and learned, but I wander more because I feel as if I need to find something. Is that why you wander? Are you looking for something?"

Soul tilts his head at the other doe... a very pretty doe, at that, an expression of curiosity matching her own.

"..Maybe. I think perhaps the Mother Father wishes for me to find something one day. I do not know what it is I'm looking for, if indeed I am supposed to be looking for anything. I only know that I cannot quell this urge to move, to travel. It comes from a desire greater than my own, and I really have no wish to try and stifle it. I have seen many, many things-- and learned more of this swamp than most Kimeti may ever learn, even those older than myself, I believe," he pauses again and smiles at her.

"And you? If you are searching for something, what is it that you seek?"

A sadness came over the lavender doe. There was a noticeable droop to her ears.

"There lies the problem. I feel as if I'm missing something, that there is something I need, but... I don't know what it is." Weeping Mist sighed. "I can only wander and explore, hoping I'll know what it is when I find it."

Weeping Mist seemed to brighten a little as a thought occurred to her. "Unlike you though, my wanderings stay fairly close to home. Perhaps that has some meaning to it."

Watching her keenly, Soul nods a bit and smiled. "You'll find it eventually, whatever it is. Perhaps you merely need to look outside of your usual paths..?" He pauses, regarding the pale-colored doe and hums thoughtfully to himself.

"...Maybe you could come with me for a little while? I wouldn't mind the company, and you'll never really be lost when you're in the company of another."

Weeping Mist returned the gaze of the turquoise colored buck. A good feeling washed over her. "Company would be nice," she replied. As Weeping Mist accepted the buck's invitation, she wondered if this was what she'd been looking for. Had she been searching the swamps alone and looking for 'things' when all she needed was company? Weeping Mist tilted her head and smiled at the young buck.

He smiles, pleased that she accepted his invitation and turns to look the way he was traveling before they ran into each other. "There's a thicket of cypress not far from here.... their roots offer good protection from rain and wind at night. It will be getting dark soon, I think.." As he goes to move in that direction, he lightly brushes his flank against hers, and looks back for her to follow.

The brush of his body against hers brought a sense of security. They both seemed to be following a path of wandering and searching, but while she felt lost in her searching, he seemed to be confident that his wandering path would eventually lead to somewhere or something. Weeping Mist felt encouraged by his confidence.

She quickened her step to walk beside him. “You seem to follow your steps where they take you without question,” she said. “Don't you ever wonder where you're going? Or.. why?”

Humming softly for a moment, Soul seems to think about her question. After a moment, he finally nods, and answers, "Sometimes... I mostly wonder about the things I see in my dreams. I know it's the Swamp speaking to me, as if Motherfather wishes to tell me something but I... well, I don't quite know what it is that I'm being told. Sometimes I'm not even sure if my dreams are ever just regular dreams or not, though I always have the urge to visit the places I see. However, there are times when I see things that I've never seen in the Swamp. Tall, huge things that reach into the sky like giant boulders covered in trees and frozen water... I'm not sure why I see these things, or what the Motherfather wishes from me yet, but I know that these things must have a purpose. I'll know it eventually... even if it takes years. I'm willing to wait, and really... I enjoy the travel. I guess maybe because it's all I've ever really wanted or felt I needed to do.." he drifts off, smiling a bit.

"...There I go rambling. What about you? Why do you wander? What are you searching for?"

“I used to think I knew what I was looking for,” mused Weeping Mist, “..but when I think I've found it, I still feel like something is missing. I used to think I was looking for my family, but I found them and something still seemed to be missing. I thought maybe I needed a different place to live, so I searched far from home, but I keep coming back.”

She turned and smiled at Soul Drift. “So I keep looking and finding.”
