Okay, so I was thinking about this a while back, and I was thinking; out of all the Harvest Moons, who's the best playable character? They've all got their strengths and weaknesses (eg. backpack space, bachelor(ette) choices, timelines, circumstances of the game, etc), so who do you think's the best one?
My vote would have to be for Save the Homeland Jack. My reasons would have to be because of almost unlimited backpack space, and you could pretty much do whatever you want to the villagers, because they'll all just forget who you are when you start the year again anyway, and you're also the hero who gets to do something besides farming.

Out of the games I've played? Main character from AWL, definitely. Unlimited backpack space FTW.
... Although you do die in that game. :c

Hmm...tough but then again not really. I say Animal Parade. I haven't personally played it yet but from what I've seen and heard from friends...it's wow.
1) They finally give us the HARVEST KING and a WIZARD
2) You can have an actual wedding and more then one kid that can actually grow up and who you can help raise. The other games didn't have that...well not like they do now.
3) Won't you be able to play as your child when your done?
Sounds better to me...

I would say the character for AWL for how much time you have in the day, or the character for IoH for the graphics and bachelor/bachelorette choices.
