"Miyuki! We're going in three minutes!" Lin called.
They were already a few days late in going as Miyuki's sudden growth (poor Grandfather Long) prompted to have her measurements redone and then wait for those clothes.
"I'm coming!" Miyuki called back.
She had insisted to doing her own packing, which technically to her wasn't very hard. All you had to do was put everything you owned into her travel bag. She was a big girl now, she didn't need Mummi's help for everything.
She snatched a ball of red twine off her table and shoved it into her bag. Putting her bag over her shoulder she snatched Senka up who was lounging on her window sill and ran for the portal room.
"Come on Sen-sen!"
"Stop calling me Sen-sen already! You can talk!"
Lin could hear the yelling of both child and cat, which only made her shake her head. Senka did actually end up liking Miyuki, not that she would admit it.

Kaito was already in the portal room, waiting for Lin and the others. He was ready to go back - with Shiro taking care of things here (he couldn't risk falling behind in any more of his work, not until he stopped using so much electricity and such) he was the only one who could return to the Four Lands. He hadn't been too eager to come this time, not without his twin, but he was going as a special favour to Shiro, to see what was going on and how things had changed since they had last been there. He supposed there was a part of him that wanted to see what Lin was going to do now that she seemed to have had her eyes opened about her own feelings towards his cousin, but that wasn't as much of a motivator as he had once thought it might be.
He looked at his watch and shifted from one foot to the other, beginning a countdown of the three promised minutes. Impatient as ever ...

Miyuki burst through the door, she was of course excited. They were going to go back to Ada and this time she had a pretty (in her opinion) fool proof plan to make sure he never left again.
Her Grandfather gave her the idea, which had Miyuki been as old as say her mother, she would have known that was probably not a good idea at all.
"Kaito! Coming? Where's Shiro? Where's Ura?"
The moment Miyuki had turned six, her Grandfather and Great-grandfather and her Uncle Yukito had been forbidden to give her sugar. She seemed to magically produce her own as it was.
Lin followed in, at a more sedated pace trying not to chuckle at her daughter's antics, "Shiro has work, which both he and Ura will not be coming."
Personally she thought Shiro needed to work on a way to produce his own electricity, she had out of curiousity asked how much his bill was when he said he couldn't go. The amount frightened her.

"What Shiro needs to do," Kaito said flatly, "is invest in solar panels or wind turbines, so that he can make electricity for himself and the clan grounds and make even more money off of it."
He had also originally thought water turbines, but with all their mer family members that just wasn't safe. Even wind turbines was pushing it, with all the fliers there were.
"At any rate, he probably won't be able to come for another trip for a while, so I'm going to be doing his work for him," he told Miyuki.

"That will be a relief, I saw the bill for it," Lin murmured, "I couldn't believe it until I saw it."
Even Lin who only had the basic understanding of such a thing knew what it all meant.
"Now, Miyuki we'll be going to the Southland Palace and we'll be underground so don't wander too far," Lin told her as she carefully readjusted the blue rose in her hair.
"Okay...." Miyuki replied knowing that tone of voice her mother used.
It was the same she used after Miyuki had run away from the baths as a fox, which might not have been a problem except that had been her first transformation and as a result she was butt naked afterwards.
Opening the door to the Southland, Lin ushered Miyuki in.

Kaito followed them immediately and closed the portal behind them.
"Still," he murmured as they started through the labyrinth, "even just installing enough solar panels for him would cost upwards of two million. Sure he would pay it off soon enough but ..."
It would be a pain, either way. Still, in the long run it would be a good idea.

Lin didn't know enough about solar panels to know about how much they're supposed to cost.
"But it's just the act of installing them, and then paying them off," Lin murmured, "It's complicated over all."
She was sure Grandfather Daemon wouldn't have thought of such a thing when he first built that one house on that land.
Miyuki stared at some of the runes she was seeing, they were familiar but not familiar enough to be able to read it. She blinked at it a few times before going on, stopping a bit to make sure she wasn't too far away from her mother.

"Not so much complicated as inconvenient," Kaito shrugged. "It would take about a month to install, and then there's the switching over, and Shiro has a few experiments that can't be interrupted, so ..."
Up ahead, a shadow appeared from around a corner, and after a moment a slim figure appeared. As she came closer and the torches illuminated her face, it became apparent that it was Aranxia, Tinuviel's younger daughter, but she had grown since they had been there and was now very nearly Lin's own height.
"Welcome back," she smiled, her voice soft as she greeted the travelers. She was still quite reserved in her personality, but not nearly as shy as she had been.

Lin tilted her head, but only because she had to think about who it was before saying anything. It had been a while obviously since she had last seen her. Though still young if she was close to Lin's height.
"Aranxia," Lin smiled warmly, "It's good to see you again."
Miyuki stared up at Aranxia her three tails waving back and forth as she tried to make sense of who this woman was. Instead of saying anything she ran back and hide behind her mother.

Aranxia smiled back at Lin. "And you," she said softly. "And Kaito, welcome back. And Miyuki."
She giggled softly and clasped her hands behind her back as she always did. "Come, we have all been waiting anxiously for your return. There are more visitors as well who have been waiting for you."
She motioned for everyone to follow her.
"Visitors?" Kaito asked curiously, hefting his bag on his shoulder.

Miyuki peeked out from behind Aranxia, "Do I know you?"
She kind of reminded her of her ada, but on the other hand she had never met the woman in her life. At least she was pretty sure of that.
"You met her as a baby," Lin told her daughter absently, "Visitors now? Then I guess we better go and see what it's about."
It wasn't often she had visitors waiting for her after all.

Aranxia smiled as they started down the corridor of the labyrinth. "Your mother is right, you were just a baby when we first met," she replied. "We did not have much time together, I was very shy then and you left immediately for your trip to the Borderlands."
She turned to Lin. "Some of my great uncles have returned. Uncle Shea and Uncle Mikhail. They received a letter a little over a year ago, while Uncle Earendil was still gone, and there was one for him, too."

Lin looked thoughtful, she knew Mikhail well enough. As the youngest of the brothers she was lucky enough to have known him growing up, even if it was had been for a small while. Shea, she knew very little of and had only met during the wedding.
"Letters?" Lin blinked at that, that she had not been expecting at all, "Do you know from where?"
It had to be important if Shea and Mikhail had returned.

Aranxia pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Well ... I'm not quite sure, to be honest," she admitted. "From the talk of it, I get the impression that it was somewhere quite far away, but they were delivered by someone from my Uncle Gion's plantation. So I'm not quite sure, and no one will tell me what the letters say."
"Maybe it will make more sense once we've spoken with Earendil," Kaito suggested. "If he received one of the letters as well ..."

"Good point," Lin mused thoughtfully.
Though it made her really curious, which shouldn't have been a surprise really, Lin tended to get curious very easily. It was a good thing they were hurrying along, though it might have to do with the fact that Miyuki was tugging on her arm.
