Recently out here in California, a law was put to the test. Fast food places couldn't give out toys in kids meals. By doing so the government was hoping that this would help kids stray away from unhealthy choices. The community and food chains are upset and want the law taken away, as much as 80 percent I believe.
What do you guys think. Do you think the government went to far? Do you think the parents should be able to decide? Why do the parents even care?
As for me. I think the parents need to stfu. They've had 10+ years to change the habit of this, to change the curb, and they haven't. The kids have only gotten fatter, the parents just let the kids walk all over them. Seriously. When I was a kid, the only reason I wanted to go to McD's or Burger King was for the cool toys. That's it. Not the crappy food. The toy. I mean I had to eat the food because my parents got it for me, but ya. I'm actually really proud of the government, they're finally stepping up because its quite obvious that the parents won't. I think for the sake of the well being of the children, they should keep the law. I mean it doesn't say you can't BUY fast food for kids, just that you can't get toys anymore. Think of all the plastic that will be saved. :3
Well I suppose you can still get a toy, but only for healthy meals. I think it states that if its over a certain amount of calories/sodium it can't have a toy... which I think is really smart. smile

i'm with you; only reason i really liked Micky D's was the toys, but eventually i grew up. did the same for Burger King, but i think part of that was for the Playland there as well XD then Micky D's got pizza, then not very long after that got rid of it (except for in select states/stores, which SUCKS when you're in Canada), so it was back to the Happy Meals. but honestly, that was because my family was getting dinner there, and i'm not a big fan of hamburgers :/ and nothing else on the menu appealed to me. nowadays all i'll ever eat is the french fries (which are the best damn fries ever, i swear; just enough salt [i.e. for me, that's probably enough to kill a person], crispy but still tastes delicious when it isn't, always hot and fresh...).
but the thing is, i think the toys were created for the purpose of luring in kids to get them to pester their parents. and let's face it, there might have been the ulterior motive to get them addicted.
i seriously miss the Micky D's pizza. sure it may not have been popular, it may have stretched the definition of 'fast food', but it was damn good pizza, and i loved to eat it any day over the burgers. them getting rid of it is now why i like chains like Harvey's and A&W (well, other than the damn good root beer for the latter) better; they serve hot dogs. i like hot dogs. it's probably a good thing that the decent ones require me to drive quite a ways to them sweatdrop
EDIT: i just realized rofl if it's the parents complaining, my guess is that since the meals no longer have toys, kids don't care to get them anymore, so parents no longer have the excuse to chow on some Micky D's themselves. if kids don't want the crappy food and there's no toy to distract them from it, they're gonna whine and complain and not wanna go XD

@ dark: hahaha most of the people that were protesting were pretty fat. XDDD So ya. But you know what?! I think the government SHOULD step in. They're going to have to pay for these people's actions later... so they should have a say in at least this little trivial matter.
...I want pizza. I would maybe think about eating there if they had pizza... I love pizza. ; u ;
...I just hate what they do to their chickens. D:< *is a vegetarian cuz I don't like how the food industry treats the animals*
> sad I think the parents that are all complaining of this, seriously need to shut up. They can still buy their kids fast food, kid won't really want it though. And maybe this will make them eat healthier. I vote for no toys. Evil fast food places.
But omg. You're so right. I love the fries. They're not even potatoes. I have no idea what the hell they are but they were engineered to make our taste-buds explode in pleasure or something... damn I want some of those fries. XDDD

As a mom, and a chubby chick, I don't want Jena to grow up eating unhealthy foods that I did and still do because I can't kick a 20+ year habit. She gets McD's maybe once every other week. And she likes the food, the toy is just a bonus.
I agree that parents don't do enough for the kids and except others to do it for them. "My kid is fat!" "My kid does terrible at school!" "My kid is a hellion at home!" Then put him on a diet, help him with his homework, and beat his a**! D:< But no, they want the government to make them thin, the school to teach them everything, and a nanny to make them behave. That's not being a parent, that's just being a breeder.
