Ophelia was dragging Pilot along to the local shopping centre to go clothes shopping for him because apparently having your wardrobe spontaneously combust meant you need to get new stuff, he was perfectly happy to live on only what he’d been wearing and what was in the wash, there was no need for this torture! And this was the third time this month enough of his clothing had been destroyed to qualify for a shopping trip, it just wasn’t fair, what did the universe have against his clothing!?! Giving a despairing sigh as he saw the sign for their regular clothes store come into view Pilot gave into his fate, he wasn’t getting out this, he never did.

For once (and the first time in Lilah's short life) Maggie was NOT her good humored, silly self. Her arms were crossed over the sweetheart top of her princess dress.
Lilah, one hand up, with her thumb sticking in her mouth, the other hand gripped Maggie's full skirt. She tried to point, but realizing both hands were occupied, she was suddenly faced with a dilemma of what to do.
Earlier that day a family had come into Maggie's shop. The little boy didn't get any attention from Lilah, but the little girl...Lilah had started at the girls normal clothing, then looked down at her own dress. Not that she didn't like it, but after seeing a few more children come in and out, she started to feel out of place. So she had decided to take matters into her tiny hands. She had stolen away to Maggie's fabric room, and that's where her mother had found her, trying to operate a large pair of scissors on some of her pricier fabric.
Maggie hadn't even yelled, actually quite proud of her new daughter's ingenuity. The reason she was now so irritated was that...she ran a costume shop. She didn't have any "normal" clothes patterns, and apparently little Lilah wanted some normal clothes in her wardrobe. Maggie had never bought clothes before.
She felt a little guilty.

Pilot breathed a sigh of relief when Ophelia let him out of her clutches to look around, muttering under her breath about how it would be faster because he was hopeless at shopping. Quickly growing bored he wondered around the shop, not looking where he was going. Because of this it was no surprise that he ran into someone, a little girl who reminded him of a princess, and after steadying himself he turned to her with an apologetic smile. “Hey sorry about that, wasn’t watching where I was going. My fault entirely.”.

Lilah's thumb was still firmly in her mouth, and she found herself, once again, at the impass of having to removing it, and not wanting to. Finally, deciding it'd be quite rude to just ignore him, she let her hand drop, and tried as inconspicuously as possible to wipe off her thumb behind her back.
"Hi!" she said brightly. "We gettin' clothes!" she added, as though there were other things that could be done in a clothing store.
Maggie grumbled something that sounded like an agreement.
"Is ok," she continued. "Mommah's dress is big, so I was probubly in the way." She had trouble with "probably" and it came out a bit muddled as she spoke.
"You getting clothes too?"

Pilot only then seemed to notice the girls Mom and sent another apologetic look her way, she didn’t exactly look happy. Listening to the girl ramble Pilot thought it was awfully cute, she was so small! Nodding along in all the right places he answered her last question only. “Yeah. It is a clothing shop after all.” though his wording may have sounded sarcastic his tone was anything but.

"Yeah!" Lilah agreed emphatically, obviously missing where there could have been sarcasm. "You get clothes at a clothes store!" she nodded, as though it was quite a brilliant deduction. Above her head, Maggie let out a chuckle.
Lilah's eyebrows furrowed briefly. Mommah was always laughing, for some reason, and it was never meanly, Lilah thought. Mommah never laughed AT someone. She just laughed when she couldn't help it. But Lilah had noticed a correlation between when she said something which seemed to prompt it. So now she was trying to decipher what exactly had made her adoptive mother so humored. Why was getting clothes at a clothing store funny?
"I'm dis many soon," here, she held up her hands, to indicate 6. "And den I can know fings."
As if a birthday was a magical fix for being clueless...

A small “Indeed.” was Pilot’s only reply to the girl’s confirmation of his statement. When the girl’s mother laughed at the statement Pilot gave her a small smile.
Pilot thought that that would be the end to their interaction but it appeared that he’d bumped into a chatter box. Out of politeness a replied, “Six, wow, your going to be real big soon.”. Seeing as it seemed they were going to be chatting for a bit he added, “I’m Pilot by the way nice to meet you…?” he trailed off at the end in a silent enquiry for both their names.

"Oh, I'm Lilah!" the little blond girl exclaimed. "I thought a pilot was someone who flew fings," she prattled. "OH!"
Lilah grabbed Pilot's hand and pulled him over to a rack with t-shirts. She wasn't really shy about things like that, even with people she had just met. It hadn't really occurred to her either, that he was bigger and probably not at all interested in what she was going to show him. The shirt was pink and had a piece of cake with two small eyes and a big smile.
"Lookie," she said, pointing at it. "Isn't food with faces cute??"

"Yes well, maybe my mom was being optimistic about my future job." Pilot said in reply, truly it was just what he'd always called himself, it wasn't until people started pointing it out that he realized what an odd name it was.
Giving an awkward little flail Pilot let Lilah pull him along after his momentary surprise. Looking at the shirt with slight confusing Pilot cautiously replied, '...Er, Yes? Real cute.".

Lilah was babbling on, her little mind whirling to a hundred different things. She barely knew what she was saying now, and it should have been pretty obvious to an onlooker that she had quite a short attention span.
"...and it falled in the pond!" she finished one of her lengthy stories. (Maggie had yet to make it through the entire story and so still had no idea what "it" was and how it came to be at the bottom of whatever pond she had found.)
She had already forgotten about the t-shirt with the food face.
"What kind of clothes are you here for?" she asked. It didn't seem like the place for him to come for clothes. At least, not the section they were currently standing in, anyway.

When Lilah started babbling on about whatever came to mind Pilot could do nothing but patiently listen. He wondered how Kay was able to be so nice and friendly considering their age difference because frankly Pilot just felt awkward talking to someone younger than him by so much, he wasn’t sure what she would and wouldn’t get.
Zoning back in on time to hear the question Pilot simply answered, “Shirts.”. He thought the explanation for exactly why he was constantly needing new shirts, and occasionally overalls, would be a bit complicated, after all what average toddler understood what an entropy field was? Deciding he best add to the conversation lest he be rude he added, “You?”

"Oh, normal clothes," Lilah said, looking around. She lowered her voice, conspiratorial-like. "Did you know most people DON'T wear bawlgowns?" she asked. It had come as a shock to her.
Before he could answer, she looked across the room. Although it was a clothing store, they seemed to know their target audience well, and had a small play area set up.
"BALL!" she cried, zooming over to the corner and grabbing a medium sized red bouncing ball. She didn't know if Pilot would follow her, so she started to bounce it against the wall.

Pilot opened his mouth and was about to reply about how actually his best enemy wore all sort of fancy clothing when the toddler zoomed off. Looking after her he felt torn for a second, should he just leave now since he really didn’t know her or was he expected to follow her. It was when he looked over to see his Mom sweeping through the isle looking for him to try on god knows what his mind was made up and he high tailed it after Lilah.
Seeing her bouncing the ball he asked tentatively, “Wan’t to play catch or something?

Lilah nodded. Oh, catch! She knew catch! Berry had taught her how to play catch, only her and Berry couldn't play, because Berry was only a couple inches tall. They had tried it with a tiny balloon, but it hadn't worked.
"Okay!" she said. "Ready?" It didn't matter if he was or not, Lilah had already bounced the ball towards him.
On the other side of the store, Maggie was (quite disdainfully) flipping through some kids t-shirts. She picked up a white shirt with a crown screen-printed onto it. "What do you think?" she asked outloud.
It wasn't easily apparent if she realized Lilah was gone and was just asking thin air, or if she thought she was still standing behind her.

Giving a small nod he replied with an affirmative and softly caught the ball before bouncing it back to her, it really wasn't the most exciting game but it was way better than trying on outfits as his Mom attempted to get him to wear something different.
Said women had seen him dash off and with a shake of her head dumped the stuff she was going to get him to try on and instead just picked up some shirts she knew he'd like and where the right size. He'd get off this time only. "I think she'll like it." She said standing next to the other women, she'd seen Pilot with her so she guessed she was the toddlers caretaker. "I'm Ophelia, Pilot's mine." She said as way of explanation, silently asking for names.
