Have you ever tye/tie-dyed? I did for the first time at the end of July this year. I can show you guys pictures once I get 'em on my computer and such. It was really alot of fun, and the end results were pretty kewl, except that many of them faded alot and the dye kind of filled in the white areas when they were washed. Me and some people in my family dyed a bunch of baby clothes/blankets/cloth diapers etc for my cousin's soon to come baby. I dyed my sister, grandad, and myself shirts as well. My other cousin made a really sweet shirt, but when it got washed all the white areas turned pink and the used-to-be vibrant colors faded. But I have pictures of how the shirt looked before it was washed. wink My aunt made some really nifty color spirals on the garments as well. This is the Site we used to get instructions, ideas, and such from. If you scroll down to the center and click on the different designs on the shirts, it will tell you how to create that design you clicked on.
Well, here you can talk all about your tye-dying experiences and shtuff like that.. hehe. whee

Hints, Tips, & Other Things:
-Soak what you dyed in vinegar to help prevent bleeding and fading of tye-dyed clothes. ~ Telumitar
-Reverse Tie-Dyeing: Start out with something that is a solid color, and then put rubberbands all over it and soak it in bleach. Then run it thru the washer a few times. ~ Elysiums Twilight
-Hemp Bracelets/Necklaces: The BEST way to make the thick hemp stuff is to get THICK hemp... they sell it in SO many sizes, and they have a nice big, thick one that I use for my more "manly" bracelets and necklaces... Another way that I got some results for thickness is to double up hemp you use for the ENTIRE necklace... That also gives it a neat texture... Especially if you don't pull it all the way tight... ~ Ms. Krause Mouse Herself wink

But I have pictures of how the shirt looked before it was washed. My aunt made some really nifty color swirls on the garments as well. To tye-dye, you should have a big area to work with, we used my cousin's big kitchen's countertop. You need a big bucket for each color you are going to use, too. To prepare the dye, you have to boil it with water, I think, I don't remember hehe. I don't know the address for the good site we used to learn tye-dying techniques and instructions, lol. sweatdrop My aunt found it. Well, I remember that it said you should start out with the lightest color you'll be using first to dip in the dye, then dip it in the next darkest color you'll be using, and so on until you are satisfied with your results. And you should rinse out your excess dye on your garment in a sink until the water coming out of it runs clear after dipping it in dye, before you continue onto dipping it in the next color.
Well, here you can talk all about your tye-dying experiences and shtuff like that.. heh. whee
cool I love to tyedye and yes the only bad thing is that it does fade but that just tells people you did it yourself blaugh (Hint to stop the faeding and bleeding if you soak them in vinegar the color stays a little better)

I make hemp jewelry all the time! I actually sell them when I have a chance (See my post about "Coventry" for a heartbreaking story about my hemps...).
The BEST way to make the thick hemp stuff is to get THICK hemp... they sell it in SO many sizes, and they have a nice big, thick one that I use for my more "manly" bracelets and necklaces... Another way that I got some results for thickness is to double up hemp you use for the ENTIRE necklace... That also gives it a neat texture... Especially if you don't pull it all the way tight...
Please PM me if you'd like to see pictures of any of my hemps, or if you'd like any more advice or discussion about hemp jewelry! wink
