Their talk ended with Aekea saying she'd have no cubs with anyone but Kafele. She had told him that if they weren't meant to have cubs, so be it. She wouldn't seek out another male to do that. In her mind, it didn't set right to do that; even though Kafele had offered. It still unnerved her that he had. Sure, she could see the logic behind it all, but it just felt so wrong.
So, they tried to get pregnant a few times. It had been a couple of months since that talk, and she'd grown more used to the pride, more used to her role in it. She was quickly accepting everything she was taught, and adored the praise Kafele gave her about her hunting skills. Truly, she wasn't the best, but he made her feel like she was.
She felt a subtle shift in her, a subtle change. Naturally, she wasn't concerned with it; she thought it came from getting used to a different landscape; a different pride. But when her stomach slowly started growing over the two months, she'd sought out one of the older females. That's how she learned she was going to have cubs. Aekea couldn't have been any happier. The orange and yellow female raced back to her den to find her mate to tell him the news, if he hadn't figured it out already.
"K-Kafele?"

The old man was just about ready to give up. He knew when nature had turned its back on him. He was just far too old and she was far too young. It was to be expected.
He was dozing at the front of his den and allowing the heat to warm his old bones. He'd long since learned that laying on hot rocks helped his sore muscles.
The male hadn't realized any change. His eye sight wasn't as good as it once was and his sense of smell was off too. Something had changed, no doubt, but he had yet to figure it out.
Brown ears swiveled up at he soft stutter and he pushed himself up slowly. "Aekea... It is a pleasure to see you. Are you alright."

The orange lioness moved over to him and nuzzled all up against him, rubbing her head against his chin and neck, humming appreciatively. She was fairly open about her displays of affection, especially now. Aekea's violet eyes turned to seek out his own and she grinned widely, clearly happy. "I-I talked to s-some of the older f-females.... I'm p-pregnant!" She managed to squeak out happily, looking on the brim of tears.

While he was used to her displays of affection, this was almost overwhelming. Something had certainly put her in good spirits. He tilted his head slightly curious then elated. "Oh! Are you really?" He questioned leaning down to nose at her belly. "Did they say ho far? Or when? We should prepare."

He was happy. She saw it, heard it and Aekea couldn't help but be even more happy about that. She had finally given him what he wanted; a family to dote upon and love. Aekea nuzzled up against him more and purred heavily.
"N-not far," she whispered, ears flicking and tail swishing behind her. Get ready? How were we supposed to do that? She thought a moment and then shrugged. "H-how.... do we g-get ready? H-how do we.. p-prepare the den?"

The older lion gave a deep well meaning laugh. She sounded so lost. Her motherly instincts mustn't of kicked in yet. No matter he'd been around long enough to know what to do.
"First thing is first. You are to rest. You needn't worry about anything. I will hunt and take care of you. We need soft things for you to lay on other then this terrible cold den floor." He gave it a look and pushed himself, bones cracking. Perhaps he would find someone else to hunt for her. He nuzzled her back before stepping out and finding soft grasses. This would do. He swiped it, knocking it down before dragging it inside.
At least grass fell at his paws.

He was going to take care of her. Of course Aekea knew it; she always did. Kafele would take care of her, and she for him. It was just the natural way of things, wasn't it? After all, he had been taking care of her since before she could remember. When he said she needed to do, she watched him go and then blinked. What was he going to do? The ground wasn't cold or uncomfortable! But she saw him dragging tall, soft looking grass inside and she smiled widely.
"T-th-thank you. B-b-b-but, the g-ground was f-fine!" She didn't want him doing anything unnecessary!
