It had been an interesting last few days for Aleu as well as the pack. She had gone out beyond the packs borders with Lyra and found this interesting object that now hung around her neck. It wasn't until she returned to show everyone that she found out they were called pipes - or at least that's what Merrill had called them. And that wasn't the only surprise either, Aleu came to find out that some pups had been dropped off from a pack to the north by a mother who didn't want them. This news was shocking enough but then when it was added that Corvus was the father of these pups Aleu was quite shocked. She didn't think Corvus liked at all given how he always seemed to avoid them, and now he had pups of his own.

It was so sad to hear about how the pups had been forced through this long march just to get here and the mother didn't seem to care whether they made it or not. Though this Alpha that her mother spoke of seemed to be a bit more compassionate given that she was the reason behind the pups still being alive. She would have liked to see the pups but her mother had said it was best to leave them be for now given their fear and anger towards females. Aleu really couldn't blame them for the way they acted towards females and was more than willing to give them some space. Instead she set out to look for her brother, Derecho was bound to be around here somewhere.

Derecho had spent the last few days rethinking his conversation with Terreis - he was still convinced he was in the right and that she'd reacted in a completely irrational manner. It was probably best she was gone! Yes thats what he'd been telling himself since she'd run off - but that nagging thought in the back of his mind kept pestering him.

During their argument he hadn't noticed it - but afterwards when he thought back - had that been sadness in her eyes as she spoke of her brother? Surely not if she supported males being slaves and death marches for puppies! No he must be mistaken...but the nagging thought had kept him in a foul mood and though he wouldn't admit it some of it was guilt..a few of the comments he'd made to the patchy wolf had been pretty ill tempered.

In any case there wasn't much to do about it now - he'd thought their friendship on the verge of growing into something nice...maybe even something more. But it was ruined now and he'd never get the chance to find out. She was gone...and good riddance! Yes...he'd just keep telling himself that he told himself and eventually he'd believe it.

Moodily he slammed his paw down on a wild flower that dared to grow in his path as he meandered through the woods.

Finding Derecho proved much easier than she expected as the sound of paws hitting hard against the ground reached her ears. And was that a bit of grumbling she heard as well. Turning to catch up with Derecho she watched in silence as he crushed a small flower. Something must have gotten under his skin because Derecho normally didn't stay mad for too long. She wondered if this had to do with the pups, as surely Derecho would be upset about the situation as she was, but no as she watched him some more Aleu was convinced there was something else bothering her brother.

Slowly she pulled herself from the trees and made her way towards him. She would have hummed a merry tune as she went but there would be another time for that. Instead she just silently fell into step beside Derecho and waited for him to start venting about whatever it was that was bothering him.

Derecho wasn't surprised when Aleu showed up beside him, she always seemed to appear whenever he needed her - it was almost like a sixth sense connected them sometimes. Or maybe that was just his own imagination. Derecho decided it didn't really matter, she was here when he needed her - and that..mattered.

"I just can't believe that wolf" He started off as Aleu remained silent "She just up and defended the pack that brought those pups to us, like they were some sort of saint pack and thier beliefs were right. I thought we were growing close to one another - but maybe she just thought i was another slave at her beck and call" He snarled the last bit - Derecho wasn't anyones servant. Ever.

Ah so that's what had him so upset. He had been spending a lot of time with Terreis since she came to the pack a couple of weeks ago, much like Aleu was spending more and more time with Verse. And now she had gone and upset him over the pups by defending the pack they came from. This would be one of those delicate times were she would have to pick her words carefully or risk upsetting Derecho more or even worse sound like she was taking Terreis' side on things.

"She defended the pack?" She asked, though the question was more for her benefit than anything else. Saying it out loud hoping to spark the right words to say next. But it didn't work. "Why would she do that?" It was hard for her to understand as she knew very little about Terreis as the wolf tended to stay away from the others only letting Derecho get near her.

Well at least Aleu seemed to be listening to him. "I guess she used to be a part of the pack...or is again now, I don't know. She's so damned pig headed...I was upset about the puppies treatment and then she started off about how the pack was great and their ideals worth upholding and now that we fought shes run off to join them again" He stated the last with a little sigh.

"I thought she was a nice wolf..' He told Aleu and then paused slightly "Well...not exactly nice per-say..but decent" He amended, Aleu was nice..Terreis wasn't. But that was part of the reason he liked her. Had liked her.

Slowly the pieces of the puzzle were revealing herself. Well it did make sense for her to defend a pack that she was part of at one time - or was that still a part of. Giving her head a shake minor details like that didn't matter as much right now. But she also knew that Derecho had this nasty habit of not listening or caring about what others said once he had something on his mind. Terreis was odd from what she had known of her but surely she didn't accept the pups poor bevahior as something normal - or did she.

"Not to sound like I'm defending her or anything but let me put it this way. If the same situation had happened but it was our pack who was abandoning the pups and one of theirs thought it was wrong but it was all you knew, wouldn't you have defended the pack as well?" It made some sense to Aleu, that you defend what you know and that which is foreign to you is often something that can insight confusion or anger.

Derecho paused and turned about to regard Aleu, giving her an indignant and somewhat offended look "I would never...defend someone treating puppies the way those two were treated - even if it was mother doing it" He told her. Turning about he continued walking, adding imperiously over his shoulder "I would have tried to change such a pack".

And he was more then convinced he would have to - what kind of wolf wouldn't. "She stated the mother probably would have drowned if they hadn't been brought here by the other Alpha" He continued "In any case it doesn't much matter anymore now does it - the pups are safe and she's run back to lord over slaves in the North"

That look he gave her was somewhat expected and yet he seemed to have missed the point behind her question. And this was one of those times that she would need to beat it into Derecho's skull. "Derecho stop." She said as she herself stood waiting for him to do that small command, though if he didn't that was up to him. "You're telling me that if your role was reverse and you had been raised in that pack never knowing anything outside of it you would try to change it?" She threw a stern look at him that said you better not just blow this question off, Aleu was trying to reason things out here. "And that you wouldn't be offended when this ideal that you have been raised with your entire life was thrown in your face because it was wrong in anothers eyes. You honestly think you wouldn't defend you pack in that case?"

Derecho sighed and stopped, turning around to look at her again. He'd thought she was listening to him but it seemed liked she was going to take Terreis side on things - which was absurd. Snorting he sat down and narrowed his eyes. He'd listen to whatever she had to say - but only so he could argue with her over it.

"I have trouble seeing how anyone could think drowning puppies or throning them away because of their gender could be accepted - even if someone grew up surrounded by it. It just seems wrong. And say your right - and she was only defending the ideals she grew up with...it still doesn't change anything because that just means she saw me in the same fashion she saw the males from her pack and that...won't do."

Well at least he was somewhat seeing her point now. "Wrong or not, it is hard to change that which has been ingrained in you since birth." Some wolves could make changes quite easily, they were quite eager and willing to adapt to any given situation. And others were far too set in their ways to see things differently. Derecho was more of the second type, not willing to see or accept things that happened differently from within their own pack.

"Derecho...Derecho." She said giving her head a shake, a small smile crossing her maw. "I may not have spent much time with Terreis but from what I have seen I really don't think she saw you the way she saw males from her old pack." Her face changed into a serious expression for a moment. "Besides your too stubborn to make a good slave." Giving her head a shake to fight off the smile that wanted to creep onto her maw, Aleu turned and began to slowly walk away - though it was only to hide the snicker from her slave comment. Looking over her shoulder she spoke once more. "But all joking aside, you shouldn't let love slip away Derecho. Trust me on that one." She herself had been fighting over that emotion for a while now and it was something she still hadn't said to Verse, but now she was more determined than ever to do so. That should get him to follow her or at least argue that he wasn't in love with Terreis, which Aleu knew was a lie.

Despite the fact that some of what Aleu's words made sense Derecho couldn't help but let out a slight huff at the absurdity of the this other packs ideals. Of course he was also aware that if he truly wanted to achieve his life time goals he would need to rein in his temperamental outbursts in the future. The sight of the puppies had sent him over the edge - but that didn't necessarily excuse him for some of the things he'd said to Terreis. it didn't excuse her for some of the things she'd said either - they'd both been in the wrong at that point.

"If she didn't then it didn't matter she's already gone" He mourned slightly as he trotted to catch up to his sister. What did she expect him to do? Go and look for this male hating pack and try to speak with her? But he didn't argue Aleu's statement - though he did arch a brow and give her a look "Your one to talk there" He stated blandly.

Aleu turned and looked at her brother as he hurried to catch up to her. "Yes she is already gone, but that doesn't mean you should give up on her. Give her and yourself a few more days to cool off and then who knows, maybe she will come find you. If not, maybe you should go look for her."

His next comment and that look he gave her made her huff. "Hey, it's not like I haven't been trying you know. Bugger keeps running off before I can say anything." Maybe if she cornered him in his den then Verse would have no choice but to listen to her, then she would get those things off her chest finally.

Aleu's advice was sound and Derecho mulled it over n his mind - how long should he wait? one day? Two? He supposed waiting until he was no longer sullen and moody over the topic of their discussion would be good - he could only assume that once he'd calmed down then she would have too - it made sense to him.

In the meantime he tried to lighten the conversation with Aleu by snorting slightly "maybe if you hadn't tried to beat him up the first time he saw you he wouldn't be so nervous about you suddenly deciding you like him" He told her in an amused tone. He had never understood why exactly Verse and Aleus had not gotten along as pups - he'd liked Merrills adopted son just fine even if he did speak in weird ways sometimes. But Aleu sang..so he'd though that would be right up her alley and apparently it had been - he just hadn't realized it until she was older.

Aleu shot Derecho a hurt look, though it was utterly fake. "I only beat him up because he insulted singing and said that I must be tone-deaf in order to like it." Though even she had to admit that over time they became friends and hopefully once they got over this awkward stage of running away from each other any time there was a hint of emotional attachment between the two they might turn into more. Letting out a small laugh as she realized that both her and Derecho were in somewhat similar situations in regards to the ones they liked. "How about we do it this way, you hold Verse down while I tell him, and then I'll hold Terreis down while you tell her? Sound like a deal?" Though Aleu was pretty sure there was no way in hell that she would be able to hold down Terreis and the offer had been purely a joke.
