Over the past few weeks, Tara had lost count of the number of times she had been told not to patrol alone. The Opal Crystal was still missing, and they weren't as strong on their own. The Princess, Zue, Aries, Taurus... even Libra had asked to team up with her rather than go it alone. Libra. She still couldn't quite get over that one.

Tara knew better than to patrol alone. She knew the risks, the dangers. But that night, after dealing with another dream ending in screams and gunshots, she ignored every bit of her so-called 'better judgement' and set off, rounding the corner before she felt it safe to henshin up. Her shoes didn't have heels, so she padded more or less silently down the street, the lights casting shadows on the sidewalk. Aquarius ignored them. She was ready for a fight, ready to take her mind off her problems. For once, a battle would have been less distressing than a night at home alone.

To complete her total disregard for common sense, she began to whistle. It was nothing complex, just a jingle she'd heard on TV the other day, but it was practically begging for a monster to find her. Which, at that point, she was.

It had been a frustrating night for Lieutenant Paragonite. Which would make that two nights in a row to be in such fashion. The prior evening, which had started out fairly well, ended in near disaster with Lieutenant Variscite trying to make mince meat of her face. However, today was more of a general aggravation.

The damn youma she had in tow with her was rather putrid smelling, and she swore it was oozing from, well. Somewhere. She wasn't quite sure where, and she wasn't terribly interested in finding out. However the creature was not without it's uses. While it's odour was more than slightly nauseating, it certainly led to easier gain of star seeds.

Paragonite kept the creature secluded mostly to alleyways and behind (mostly) abandoned buildings. For now she could be found in the former, leaning against the wall and staring at the youma. It was stretching it's arms out, looking a little more than slightly bored. It's boredom was short lived, however, when something seemed to catch it's attention. Raising an eyebrow, Paragonite stood up and away from the building, moving closer to the youma. It uttered a low hiss, moving closer to the streets.

Furrowing her brow, the lieutenant moved quickly to get ahead of the Youma, and poked her head around the end of the alleyway. Alone, in the streets, was a young girl. She didn't look to be much older than high school age. A wry grin crossed the brunette's face. It was an easy mark. The youma that was coming up behind her stopped as she put a hand out behind her. It could remain there for now, she wouldn't need it's assistance for this.

Stepping out of the shadows, she pulled her baton out, "Beautiful night, isn't it?" her smile remained painted on her lips. "It's unfortunate for you, it'll be your last."

"It's about damn time," Aquarius muttered under her breath. She couldn't have been much more obvious if she wore a sign that read 'I'm a Senshi, attack me!' But of course, the idiots in the Negaverse were slow on the uptake. She just had to accept that she was working with a learning curve.

She smelled the youma before she saw it. Her throat seized briefly as her stomach threatened to empty itself, but she swallowed and managed to regain control. Apparently it wasn't alone; a female voice coming from behind her made her confident that it was a youma and its master, out for an stroll.

"You're slow," Aquarius said loudly, turning around. A fresh wave of odor made her sway slightly. "Monsters travel in pairs now, huh? Not that it matters." She eyed the two of them critically, wishing she could get a sample of the youma's ooze to study later. As for the Lieutenant... did the Negaverse have no age limit for evil minions? Apparently not.

Feeling dramatic, she clenched her hand into a fist and thrust it into the air. "Nothing in this world is to be feared, only understood! In the name of Aquarius, it won't take rocket science to defeat you!"

A senshi? Hell, a Zodiac? Well, that would make things a little more interesting. The grin never left her face as she took a step back, giving a little more room between the pair.

"Always found that group efforts generally produce better results." Paragonite snarked, choosing to ignore the commentary on her mental capacity. She'd like to see how well anyone would manage walking around with the sort of stench following her for the evening. No matter, that wasn't the point this evening, she'd dwell on that later when she had more time to sit and stew.

"Cute," she twirled her baton in her fingers, "but there's a lot in this world to be feared, my dear, you obviously just don't know it yet." she bolted forward towards Aquarius, preparing to bring her baton down across the woman's face. Hopefully it'd keep her sharp tongue in her damn mouth.

Behind her the youma let out a low, guttural growl. It began to lurch out from the shadows as well. It was larger than your average male. Perhaps somewhere between 6'2", 6'4". It's face had no eyes that were visible, but it seemed to look towards Aquarius like it could view her very clearly. It's blackened skin looked slick, like it was covered with oil, and there were short, sharp claws jutting from it's nail beds. The stench is exuded only became worse the closer it would come, and little bits of the ooze (possibly the cause of the smell) seemed to drip from it's body.

Apparently, it did not want to be left out of the game.

Aquarius may not have been on her A game, but she knew that a challenge would be accompanied by an attack. Still, the Lieutenant was faster than she expected. There was no time to dodge, but she managed to throw an arm up to block her from the worst of the blow. Her arm stung, but was still in one piece and ready for a fight.

Since she was already within range, Aquarius dropped and aimed a punch at Paragonite's abdomen. She was too close to the enemy to scout the field for items she could use, and she didn't feel like gaining distance when she could throw punches fine without using her powers.

She was in the moment, but her moment failed to take one thing into account. One large and smelly thing about six feet tall. Her focus was on the Lieutenant, who effectively blocked her view of the monster.

Aquarius' fist hit dead on, sending the brunette back a few paces, gasping in air. She hadn't been expecting that, Aquarius' didn't look much like the physical sort. Then again, Paragonite should have known better than to judge a book by it's cover. A smirk ran across her face as she brought her eyes back to look at the Zodiac.

"Heh." so Aquarius had some fight in her. That was great. But Paragonite didn't feel like spending all evening tussling with her. She motioned with her arm towards the other girl. With that, the smelly, oozing Youma hurdled passed the agent and towards Aquarius. It made no noise, but it's skin began to bubble up and 'pop' letting the toxic stench loose once more. It launched it's entire body, ooze dripping on the ground and it moved with careless ease through the air.

With any luck, Paragonite thought, it'd lay down hard on her opponent.

Truthfully, close combat was not Aquarius' preferred mode of fighting. It was far better than anything involving guns, but she would have preferred a nice lightsaber blade to keep her away from her opponent. But when your powers consisted of making you stronger to punch things, you had to adjust, and Aquarius was getting better at getting up close and personal with her enemy.

Unfortunately, she had yet to perfect pluralizing her defense.

Aquarius smelled the youma before she saw him, and whirled around, leaving her back open. She winced, darting to one side, but she wasn't quite fast enough. The youma caught her in the side, leaving a trail of thick ooze on her arm and abdomen and sending her back several steps. She breathed heavily and prayed that the ooze wasn't poisonous; bruises were hard enough to explain without taking acid burns or infections into the equation.

"I see. You like to leave a girl surrounded." Aquarius panted, leaning against a lamppost. "Why haven't bad guys ever heard of manners? It might make people like you more, so you don't have to resort to taking hostages to get a date."

Talking was not the best way to catch her breath, but she had to try to stall. There was nothing nearby that she thought she could use. No cars, no convenient crowbars, no solid stone walls. She had to get creative, but the youma had knocked her for a loop, and thinking was difficult.

"Manners are overrated," the brown haired lieutenant spit back, "especially when it comes to haughty little bitches like yourself." she moved forward again, spinning her baton towards Aquarius' head. Banter was for movies, and generally it didn't lead to the outcome one would be hoping for.

The ooze from the youma was not poisonous. No. In fact, it was more sticky than anything. A smirk painted itself across the young woman's face. The youma itself continued to come at the young Zodiac.

"I don't think you're going to have to worry about dates for much longer." she chirped, "You'll be married to the pavement soon enough."

Aquarius was in a jam. Real, literal jam. Judging by the youma's coloring, perhaps grape or blackberry, but she wasn't about to taste to be sure. While there were many things she was willing to do in the name of science, tasting youma goo was not one of them. She had better things to do. Like making Lieutenant jam to match.

"I'm not," she said, wheezing a bit, "that kind of girl. Marriage on a first date? Unheard of." The lamppost behind her was solid and comforting. But mostly solid. As she leaned against it, she realized where her power was going to come from. She just hoped that it would be enough.

"You, on the other hand, seem like the sleeping around type. So I'm sure you won't mind taking a nap for me." Aquarius placed the palm of her hand on the metal pole behind her. "Energy Equivalence!"

Not even waiting for her weight shift to settle in, she crossed her arms over her head. The baton might pack a wallop to a normal person, but not to a Senshi with arms as dense as iron.
